I was told no dairy for my stones. I never drank milk, but I used to eat lots of cheese and sometimes ice cream. I cut out the dairy and have not had a kidney stone in years. I eat nuts and nut butter of some kind every day.

Welcome to this Team. I understand about Kidney stones because I get them a lot! No Fun! However, I was told with my stones not to eat nuts and dairy or not to eat a lot of them. Anyway, Welcome!

Welcome to the team,

I have also had multiple kidney stones in the past. Not fun! I am a big bean and nut eater. You can make anything out of beans. My son even likes my bean meat-less loaf.
Have you tried Quorn? It is a meat substitute that my kids can't tell from chicken. If you can eat mushrooms you can have Quorn. It comes in patties, nuggets, and tenders. I have never tried the beef version.

Just throwing this out there as an idea -- not advice really since I don't know anything about kidney stones! But do you have to give up all meat? I can see why it could be hard to make a sudden change, but easing into it might be easier. Also, if you're looking for ways to get protein that's not meat and eating a lot of beans isn't appealing for other reasons, would eggs be okay? Dairy products? I guess you did say animal proteins.... I'll mention this again because I *love* them -- Morningstar Black Bean Chipotle burgers are SO GOOOOD! The black beans aren't obnoxious or anything either. Really good flavor and good for you as far as protein and fiber... anyway, I hope that helps, and really I'm not trying to give you advice cuz I'm not an expert or anything :)

have to change eating habits to prevent more in the future. Dear hubby gets them too. it is amazing what soda and animal proteins can do to a person. I got him off the soda now since Oct 15th. but trying to get him to cut back on animal protein is hard. have managed to get him to eat veggie ribs, veggie corndogs and even Veggie chicken. want to try the Black bean meatloaf but will have to be on a day off when I can do that. also because he has so major kidney issues other then stones, plus borderline diabitis he now has to change from white to wheat grains. its a big change for all

Hello everyone, I have been off and on sparks for a few years now and just found this group. I have had to change my eating habits because of Kidney stones that are caused by Animal protiens. This has been a very hard challenge for me as I like many others grew up on Meat and tatters. Now is the time to learn different ways of cooking things while cutting out the meat.
