Hi! I joined this group a while ago but haven't been checking in. I think I felt like I was doing the pseudo-vegetarian thing on a whim (it's been about 6 months), but after actually eating some meat in the last few weeks and feeling crappy as a result, I think I need to get more serious about it. It's so easy to become "removed" from our meat - you buy this wrapped cellophane package at the store and try to not notice the blood or think about the slaughter or the poor animal's living conditions.... Yeah, ENOUGH!
I was more of an actual vegetarian about 5 years ago. I did it for two years and then because I felt low on energy decided to try eating meat again. I really need to get myself to like beans better. What is there aside from meat, dairy, and beans that is a GREAT source of protein? I know nuts are okay but you'd have to eat A LOT of nuts to get that much protein, and that's just way too many calories. Great, in a small amount, but certainly not 60 grams worth of protein!
So, I'm on a hunt for wonderful recipes that include beans AND advice on how to "ease into" eating beans. The last two times I had hummus, which I really like and wouldn't mind eating more often, I got a really awful stomach ache.
I'll poke around the previous topics and see what I can learn. Thanks, y'all! :)
