The reason he states, no vegetable oil is it's considered a refined food b/c it contains no fiber and it's 100% fat and it's mostly saturated fat which raises your cholesterol and causes heart problems.
He does say that olive oil is healthier than butter, but not by much. If you are trying to lose weight, then oil will hurt that effort.
I still use olive oil, but not as much as I used to.

Hi Wendy, welcome. There is a vegan team also, several actually, if you haven't found them already. I don't understand the no vegetable oil. I don't use oils that I can't understand how they are made, like vegetable oil, or corn oil, but I do use nut oils and olive oils. Why is this a no-no other than the calories of course?

My name is Wendy, I live in Tennessee, and I haven't had meat for 35 days now. My mom sent me a book and a DVD called the RAVE diet and it has totally changed my life. I am in the process of transitioning to a total vegan lifestyle, but right now I still eat cheese, use oil and eat some refined foods.
After reading the book and watching the DVD it was so easy to give up meat right away, and now I am experimenting with recipes and foods that I never thought about before and my body has totally reacted positively to this way of eating.
If I do decide to eat meat it will be on occasion and I will only eat grass-fed beef, free-range chicken and non-cured meats either ordered over the internet or purchased from whole foods. If anyone is interested RAVE stands for: R - no refined foods A - no animal foods V - no vegetable oils E - no exceptions and exercise
I just joined this group and hope to be educated further about the foods to eat to keep me healthy. I have about 70 pounds to lose and now that I have adopted this lifestyle I am not in a hurry and I know if done right, it'll take me a year or so to accomplish my goals.
