Hi There!

1. you can call me: Shannon

2. years i've been around: 37

3. where i call home: Penngrove, California

4. current weight/goal weight: I'm maintaining my weight at 112 and working on health and fitness

5. current endo status: Finally diagnosed the end of 2009...after 3 trips to the ER in 3 months. Had Laproscopic surgery in January 2010. Pain returned in September 2010 and I tried controlling it with prescription pain meds...which I don't like due to the "haze" I felt. November 2010 I switched to trying herbal supplements/essential oil blends to help endure the pain. After several months with trying different remedies and mixtures of remedies, I've been able to successfully control and lessen the pain so that my life is not disrupted every month.

6. something positive about me (not weight related!):
I've turned into a fitness nut...playing indoor soccer, doing bootcamps, running races, and trying new fitness activities each month...all just because I can...without pain.

7. something i need to work on (not weight related!):
Eating healthier for me and cooking more often for my hubby.

8. whatever else i wanna say about myself: I'm looking forward to becoming a certified nutritionist and personal trainer this year.

7. something i need to work on (not weight related!):
Taking time for myself and thinking I am worth the time and effort.

Hi!
My name is Anna, I'm 28 (29 in August) and I was diagnosed with endometriosis last summer, after many years of extremely painful periods.

I am actually not trying to lose weight, I have a fast metabolism and wish I could gain a few kilograms instead. I joined this group to hopefully "talk" to others with endo. I am also interested in alternative ways to improve my health.

Currently my husband and I have been TTC for 7 months without any luck, and I am starting to lose hope it will ever happen. I know it's because of my endo.
This is getting me depressed and into a spiral of negative thinking. I fight feelings of frustration, jealousy, anger and self-loathing every day.
I wish I could be just normal. Thanks for letting me vent...

Welcome Mel! :)
Lupron is pretty evil. I've been on two rounds myself over the last 11-12 years. I"ve been doing more naturopathic and holistic ways (and trying to incorporate changes to my diet) to help control my pain. It really has made a difference. I haven't been disabled with pain in like two years.

I'll try to post some of my research and findings up soon :) If anyone else would be interested in trying different approaches to treating the endo.

1. you can call me Teri

2. years i've been around: 44

3. where i call home: Florida

4. current/goal weights: 185/145 (but i can't exercise due to vertigo)

5. current endo status: finally diagnosed July 2007 after 10 years of "well, we think it could be endo, but we're just not sure..."

6. something positive (not weight related): i have two precious boys - 22 and 14, and just went over 21 years in the air force!

7. something i need to work on (not weight related): i've had vertigo for 5 months now, so i need to work on handling my frustration!

8. whatever else: i've (literally) been around the world as a navigator (telling the pilots where to go!), but am preparing to retire from the air force and want to study to be a registered dietitian. i also have colitis and ovarian issues/fibroids, so my abdominal troubles are multiplied each month - am very interested in this group because taking so much motrin caused an ulcer, and i want to find non-medicinal ways to deal with my endo. i love spending time with my boys, pilates and yoga, and cooking with my sons. have a blessed day!

2. years ive been around: 21.

3. where i call home: Missouri.

4. current weight/goal weight: 125/120

5. current endo status: I have not actually been diagnosed, however after reading an article about endo in the latest Glamour magazine, and realizing I had all the symptoms, I decided to ask my mom about it and found out she has endo [thanks for neglecting to tell me an important part of my medical history! until now] Basically, I started my period when I was 12 or 13, was fine for a year or so, then started getting really painful cramps shortly after beginning high school. It got so bad that for a couple days before I started I would get cramps, then have the cramps until it was over, having to take pamprin/tylenol/advil everyday. Once it got so bad during the end of a school day my senior year my parents had to come pick me up from school because I couldn't sit up enough to drive home. I'm on the BCP now, have been since I was 18 [except for a 6 month period when I was on the Depo shot, and another 6 months after that when I wasn't on anything] and I would describe my cramps when I'm not on a form of BC as someone taking a cheese grater to my lower abdomen.

6. something positive about me (not weight related!): I love animals! [my sn comes from the name of my first dog: shadow, and my nickname: kat.]

7. something i need to work on (not weight related!): I need to stop worrying about everything!

8. whatever else i wanna say about myself: I recently got married, living in Mo right now with my husband and his parents, but will be moving to Tulsa, OK in august so he can finish his last year of college and AFROTC, then moving to FL after he graduates and commissions into the Air Force. I went to college for a year for psychology, but couldn't afford it after losing my scholarship. I currently work at Hardee's and really do not enjoy it. I can't wait to move in august, but I'm sad we won't be able to take our cat, Remy, with us. Between us we have 8 dogs and 2 cats, [my family has 6 dogs and 1 cat [my cat] and his family has 2 dogs and 1 cat.] My kitten Remy came to me in the dead of winter, a tiny little thing about 2 months old, has grown to be a loving 8 month old kitten, and is one of the sweetest animals I have ever met! He loves curling up on my lap and chewing on my fingers, lol. Can't wait until we move to FL, because we get to take him with us then! I also play guitar and love reading and photography.

4. Current weight/goal weight: 138/134

5. Current endo status: I was told at the end of May I probably had endo. On the 8th of June I had laproscopic surgery. They removed tons of endo, a couple of fibroids, and a "chocolate cyst" on each ovary caused by the endo. I am recovering now. I am not on any medications as the doctor wants to see what my body does on its own now. I will go back for a check up in Sept.

6. Something positive about me (not weight related!): Almost no one believes I am as old as i am, when they meet me. It's so nice to hear, "no way, you don't look old enough to have a son that is 22"! Good for the ego, especially when you are feeling tired and old. LOL

7: Something I need to work on (not weight related!): Being more friendly and outgoing.

8: Whatever else I want to say about myself: I really tend to stay busy, I like it that way. I work and stay active in my church. Guess, that's one reason all this rest after surgery is driving me nuts. LOL

They have not placed me on hormone replacement yet as they want no hormones to burn out the endo. I am trying to find out information to make decisions regarding both my hysterectomy and now the endo.

3. where i call home: Far Upstate NY

4. current weight/goal weight: 170/135

5. current endo status: I've had my end under control for several years - I spent about two years 1997-1999 using some rigorous herbal therapies after a series of surgeries that really helped for a long time. A surgery about 3 years ago helped clean house again and I've been using progesterone cream for the last 6 months to control my estrogen dominance. (Wish I had discovered this stuff in my 20s!) Now I have one or two down days a month but the endo seems well controlled. I think weight loss will help a lot as less fat = less bad estrogen.

6. something positive about me (not weight related!):
I'm always making something beautiful

7. something i need to work on (not weight related!):
I need to spend less time on the computer. (wait- that's probably weight related!)

8. whatever else i wanna say about myself:
Our adopted son is now 5 and in kindergarten all day (he's a major factor in my most recent 15 pounds weight gain - toddler adoption is rough on everyone!) and my homeschooled 15yo just went back to school. I have a unique opportunity right now to sort out what I want my life to be like for the next 5 years or so and I want that to include more energy for the physical activities the rest of my family loves and less wardrobe disappointment.

4. current weight/goal weight: 157/145

5. current endo status: i was diagnosed but dumb luck...long story short, i went into the ER for kidney stones and they found masses on my right ovary and tube. they (all the specialists) were unsure if it was cancer or just endo. i have always had all the classic signs for it but have never been diagnosed with it thanks to wonderful military doctors all my life lol i went in for surgery (it was not a lap) this July. they took out what they thought were 2 "nice size" masses and found it to be one large mass 21cm x 16cm. it had crushed my right tube and ovary so they were removed as well. also i apparently had an inflamed appendix (it was a surprise to the dr it hadn't burst) so that went as well. after the surgery i finally broke 160, so i guess that's good lol the dr tried me on BC and i didn't like the side effects so he is now working with me to do deal with this issue on a more holistic way and so far it has been working. so as of right now i have no cysts :D

6. something positive about me (not weight related!):
i'm and AWESOME mom, girl scout leader and wife!!

7. something i need to work on (not weight related!):

WELCOME Drea.....nice to hear from you!

Stop on in and chat when you have a chance so we can get to know you better!

Wow, it sounds like you've been going through a lot.
How do you feel about having a total surgery done to remove everything?

I didn't want to because, I was still "trying" to conceive now, we're just letting whatever happens, happen.

I did several different rounds of Lupron in my life and for myself, it DID help the PAIN, but WITH several SIDE EFFECTS.

So like you said: take away 1, gain another, there's NO happy medium.

I haven't even been back to the specialist, since I had my last lap in April 2008.

Shame on me, I should really go and have my yearly, but I really don't have ANY desire to go back.

We're all about trying to find non-prescription ways to help our bodies here I believe, but even if you do have to, we're all here for each other, regardless!

Do keep in touch either way, please!

Tina :)

2. years ive been around: 44...well in 10 days, 45

3. where i call home: Fenton, Michigan

4. current weight/goal weight: 190/135

5. current endo status: surgically diagnosed with endo in June 2009, very unpleasant surgery. Therapy is the depo shot that induces menopause...NOT WORKING...doc wants to "take it all out." I do not get the logic in that. He stopped my hormones to see if it would help, it didn't, so he wants to permanently stop my hormones with radical surgery and then put me on fake hormones for the rest of my life...where is the LOGIC in that?? I'm desperate for a non-surgical way to control my endo. Doc even tried to scare me into hurrying with radical hysterectomy and removal of ovaries by saying that one woman was actually having her periods through her bowels....there HAS to be another way.

6. something positive about me (not weight related!)
I have room in my heart for everyone.

7. something i need to work on (not weight related!):
patience - I want results now...before I even typed the word now...lol

8. whatever else i wanna say about myself:
I have horrible willpower, a great sense of humor, love my boy, my dog and my husband...not necessarily in that order...although sometimes my dog is number one...I'm gonna keep trying until I get it right (everything). I have a BBA and a Paralegal degree and hope to start law school next year.

1. you can call me: (rebecca), you can call me becky

2. years ive been around: 32, will be 33 in early July

3. where i call home: boise, Idaho (originally Salt Lake area, utah)

4. current weight/goal weight: 217ish/ 180

5. current endo status:
I don't have an official diagnosis of Endo, but I think I have it. But when I had my womanly exam a couple weeks ago, my dr (I go to a low- income clinic, so this is a graduate medical student. I WISH I could go somewhere else, because these guys think they know everything and they don't), I mentioned all my symptoms on the paperwork they had me filled out (including my PMS pain is as high as a 10) and I feel like it all got completely ignored.
okay, here's my history:
I don't remember when I started my period, but I believe I was in Jr high school (12- 14ish). I have always had painful periods (and the pain never completely went away when I would take medicine). I thought it was just normal, though, I had no sisters and my mom was in her 40's when I was a teen.
One day when I was in college, about age 20 (abt 12 years ago), I woke up with severe cramps. I went to take a shower in the dorm shower. I could hardly stand, let alone stand straight. When I got done (and believe me i was in no mood to move fast!) and went back to my room, my roommate saw me (bent over and pale faced), her & her boyfriend took me to the ER. well, the ER was pretty backed up that morning,
by the time it was my turn 3.75 hours later, I was feeling and looking human again! I only saw the Dr for 5 mins, he didn't even have me change into a gown or examine me or anything.... grrr...
Fast forward 5 years.... by this time I was married & living in Idaho, near where my in-laws lived at the time. My MIL knew I was having painful periods, and didn't have insurance & couldn't afford to see a Dr, so she paid for me to go. They had me do a Pap, which came back normal, and put me on BCP, which of course stopped my periods. My BCP perscription ran out after 1 year, I couldn't afford to go back to the Dr and didn't want to ask MIL to have to pay for it again, so went off the BCP.
Feb 7, 2008, I woke up at 4:30 am with intense pain. My period had started the day before, this was more than that. I was taken to the ER, where they found I had a softball sized cyst on my left ovary. It was so twisted around the ovary that the ovary had to be taken out. The cyst wasn't cancerous, but no other explanation was offered, either.
a couple months ago, I was mentioned in another online journal I have about my pain, and someone suggested I might have Endo, so I did research and think I do.
Over the last year, I have had a period pretty much every 24 days, and they last 3 days, the 1st being a heavy flow. Since I took wheat out of my diet (for the most part) a couple months ago, it's now (as of my last period) 26 days, the 1st day flow wasn't as bad, and went into 4 days. I'm all for anything that will make it longer between perionds, so I have one less each year!

6. something positive about me (not weight related!):
I'm tall and I love it!

7. something i need to work on (not weight related!): not feeling angry so much (not just about possibly having endo, but about everything else in my life!).

8. whatever else i wanna say about myself:
I am a very copmassionate person, well at least I try to be (but it's hard when you're tired of it all...), I have to be compassionate to be able to do what I do...

my hobbies include crocheting, watching TV. I love good music (used to play piano & viola). I love nature. I try to at least take a 10 min walk, but it's hard when I'm still tired all the time...

AND i've been married for 10 years (will be 11 in late June), to the sweetest, smartest man I have ever met. He just happens to have Cerebral Palsy. And back problems, and most recently stomach problems. Life is not easy for us (which is why I get angry). We don't have any children (not for any medical reason, unless it is my possibly having Endo), but hope to someday. I am his chauffeur, cook, reader, and part time caregiver. Along with that, I (as you may be able to tell by my sig line) have tendonitis in my foot (and possibly arm as well, ugh...), hypothyroid, and sleep apnea. any wonder why I'm tired???...
anywho, have a great day, gals!

4. current weight/goal weight: 200/150

5. current endo status: I was diagnosed three years ago and was relieved to finally have answers for the pain. I am currently being treated with birth control pills that only allow 4 cycles a month so it doesnt spread as fast. The pain used to be continuous but now I do have relief. I dont like this treatment though because of the side effects. I would like to find a way to treat without having to take pills.

6. something positive about me (not weight related!):
I love to run and love animals

7. something i need to work on (not weight related!):
I would like to improve my self esteem.

8. whatever else i wanna say about myself:
Recently divorced, but have two cats and four birds as my "family". I have come to terms with it now so I am ready to get my life going again in the right direction.

2. years ive been around: 21

3. where i call home: Windy City of Chicago

4. current weight/goal weight: 145/115

5. current endo status: I've been diagnosed with endo since i was 17. we think i've had it since I started my period which i got at about 10 years old. none of my gynos did anything about it till a few months ago. Found out it's growing on my bladder and pelvic bones. i was given darvocet for the pain, but i try not to use it unless I really really have to. I just try to drink as many calming and soothing teas, fill a hot bath up with teabags and different soothing oils and then curl up with a heating pad and cry myself to sleep.

6. something positive about me (not weight related!):
I pride myself on my integrity. I'm going to school for reproductive endocrinology and genetic therapy. It's not easy, but I'm a good student.

7. something i need to work on (not weight related!):

8. whatever else i wanna say about myself:

I'm kind of tired of the same old, heres painkillers, and exercise often. I can barely get out bed some mornings, much less run a marathon with the pain. im so happy to find a group that understands that sometimes, exercising isnt as easy and pain free as others think!

Thanks for the welcome and I know what you mean about teaching. I feel I was meant to do it.

I just wanted to add to my into that while I take a prescription NSAID for my pain, I have recently begun researching drug-free treatments and hope to learn a lot from this board!

emoticon Andrea! Teaching a WONDERFUL career choice. It takes someone special to make this their life choice. I describe teaching as drug people who BELONG and deserve this job. Let me explain-- Just like drugs, when you truly NEED to teach, you just can't help yourself. You do it! When you are not in the classroom, you still find yourself either thinking about your class or planning for you class. It NEVER leaves your thoughts and mind. That is what makes a good teacher. It also makes for quick burn out if you don't take time for yourself. I am glad you have your husband. I, too, have a saint of a husband. Well I will stop rambling and get back to work. My next class comes in in five minutes and I need to squeeze in the bathroom break. Like I said before, WELCOME!!!

4. current weight/goal weight: 142/132

5. current endo status: I've had painful periods since I was a teenager, but the pain has been getting worse for the last few years. I have still not been officially diagnosed as my OBGYN seems to think a lap is an unnecessary procedure if we aren't yet TTC. She wants to wait until we have been TTC for at least a year and then she will do a lap if we aren't pregnant before then. I don't really agree with her methods so once I get better insurance and life slows down a bit I'll be looking for a doctor who takes my concerns a bit more seriously. Until then I take an NSAID for the pain and just try to deal.

6. something positive about me (not weight related!):
I will be getting my teaching credential in two weeks! I'm very excited to start teaching.

Nice "meeting" you Anne! Yes, having kids does help some with the Endo, but I hate to tell you it doesn't solve the problem completely. I found that even when I was breastfeeding and should have NOT had a cycle for a while, my cycle started right back up a month after having the baby. I have three and it was like that for all three of them. I may be the odd one, so don't quote me. Talk to you more later--Kris

Hi Everyone!

1. you can call me: Anne

2. years ive been around: 27 as of tomorrow

3. where i call home: Maryland

4. current weight/goal weight: 168/125

5. current endo status: I'm still a newbie on SparkPeople. I was diagnosed with Endometriosis in Sept this year after I switched my gyn. I've had this pain for almost a year and I didn't know where it was coming from and I knew I wasn't hallucinating, like my other gyn said.

So my new gyn took an ultrasound, said it could possibly be endo, I need a laparoscopy to make sure. I had that on Oct 8. Discovered I had severe endo, uterine polyps, and a cyst. Didn't lose any reproductive organs, thankfully! Dr cleaned it out and told me afterwards my cycles should be fine.

They were not. Just as bad as before.

So the dr suggested at this point good health and exercise. He was not in favor of the hormones since whenever I took BC pills, the hormones would make it look like I had blood clots. So he said to eat like a rabbit and I told him that can't work. My body craves meat. So any meat I have, it must be organic. Not a problem.

So I'm taking this seriously because I take Advil so much that I buy a bottle a month. The pain is so bad and Vicodin and those in that family give me an allergic reaction. And the dr said that if I want to get pregnant, I really need to lose the weight and get healthy. And pregnancy should take care of the endo.

6. something positive about me (not weight related!):
I am persistent and determined. Just need to bring it to weight loss =) No, but I love to encourage others.

7. something i need to work on (not weight related!):
getting rid of clutter. I can do that for every room in my house except my corner of the bedroom, lol! But I'm in the process.

8. whatever else i wanna say about myself:

Looking forward to taking this journey with you guys!

Hey everyone. My name is Lindsey, my friends call me Galley. I'm 24 almost 25 and I weight close to 215. It's horrible. I've never been this big. I've always been around 130-150 but even at 150 I was small. I was always very active and very muscular. I played softball and volleyball and was always out with my friends. I started my periods at the age of 12 and the cramps and pain started immediately. I finally got a diagnosis at the age of 22. *pathetic* After my laparoscopy, I was started on the Lupron shot. Miserable. I gained 35 lbs in 3 months. It was horrible. I lost my beautiful hair, I had hot flashes all the time, I was a complete wicked witch. It was miserable.
I met the love of my life shortly after having my surgery and he has been with me through it all. The weight gain, the mean streak, and the miserable hot flashes. I took the Lupron shot for 3 months and couldn't take it anymore. I wanted my body back. Well, too late. It was gone.I stayed off of birth control until Feb. of this year. I have finally found something that works. The only downfall is i've gained another 15 lbs.But no periods= no pain. I'm miserable. I'm a full time student as well as a full time surgical tech. that works 2nd shift. not helping. I eat when I can and what I can. This person that I see in the mirror is not me. I have lost who I am because of this disease and it kills me.

Hi everyone!

You can call me rain, since that seems to be my nickname from friends. =D

I'm 33 years old, a mommy to a beautiful 14 yr old daughter and married to the greatest man...he completely tries to understand my endo and never knocks me down for being weak or needing left alone and/or more rest when suffering my endo bouts.

I've been bouncing back and forth with my weight. It depends on whether I'm in my cycle or not...which occurs roughly every 14-23 days. (I know...fun!) During my cycle I'll get up to 138 lbs and when I'm off, I'll drop down to 133-136 lbs. My goal weight is 110-112...I'd even be happy at 115! =)

I've had endo, but didn't know it, since I was a young teen. I think that's common with most of us. I went through everyone telling me it's normal to have cramps, etc.., etc.., etc... I was finally properly diagnosed with endo with my 3rd surgery. My fourth surgery, I only had level 1 endo, but the pain was excruciating...I ended up having large cysts removed, scar tissue and my endometrial lining removed...not fun. I still suffer pain especially during the first 3 days of my cycle (when it's at it's worst), but I'll have pains throughout the months...at least those are tolerable though. A part of me wonders if I have adenomyosis, but I'm unwilling to have my uterus removed at this time, just to find out.

I'll be very intrigued reading about all the natural and herbal remedies you gals are using. I am completely into the holistic approach wherever possible. I haven't had the best of luck going all natural with my endo, but I'm willing to learn more and try new things along the way.

So nice to see another group for endo! I am happy to meet each of you and hope to get to know you better. Thanks for starting this group Josey! =)

Well, my name is Kris and I am a mother of three young boys. They are almost 8, 5, and 2. GIven their ages, I am very busy. I have a saint of a husband of nearly 9 years. We have been together for 15 years. He has been by my side the whole time with this Endo mess. I finally got an "answer" in 1996 after being in constant pain since the FOURTH grade (around 1987. In my family, pain is "normal", so I learned to "suck" it up. Right after High School, my sister, who raised me since age 7, FINALLY took me in to the doctor and they started taking my pains serious. Before that point, I had been in and out of the ER because as my sister would put it "I was a baby". I do love my sister, but she has not always been the most supportive of my Endo. Like I said before, I have been blessed with three kids that we had quickly because the doctors told us do it while I can. Our last one, little Brennen, was touch and go most of the nine months. He was a "twin" and the other baby didn't make it. I would have to say my greatest ability is my faith. I get all my strength and courage through God. My greatest weakness is my trust. I get stepped on a lot because I always want to see the good/bright side. Well, that is the basics about me. I look forward to "meeting" you all more as time goes on. Kris
