Preach it, Tim!

Allow me to join you on the soap box for a moment...

I just spend the last 5 days in and out of the hospital with a friend who has completely ignored his health for the last few years, and is now paying the monitary and physical price for it. His heart condition has deteriorated, he's gained at least 50 pounds, eats the SAD, and drinks heavily... His doctors are prescribing a valve replacement surgery and putting a difib pacemaker in.

/Now/ he wants to fix it with diet & exercise... I'm all for embracing the power of food and fitness, and am happy that this (hopefully) is his true wake up call, but it's past that point for him, the damage is too great.

BUT, it will help after he gets things repaired.

So I'm doing what I do - being a reliable source of information (even if it's counter to conventional wisdom), and leading by example with being consistent, reasonable, and (the one I struggle with ;) patient.

I encourage all of you to do the same.

Glad to hear you are doing well. Awesome job with the weight loss! And I bet if you were to calculate it all out that you would find that you have probably gained a couple pounds of muscle which means you are really down almost 15 pounds of fat! Not too shabby in any sort of timeframe.
As far as CF and Paleo go, it certainly is a lifestyle that certainly could (and should) be continued for life. It can be a battle at times, but this battle makes us all healthier (and hopefully happier). That really is the goal of any weight training/weight loss programs... maintain a higher quality of life.

Okay, I'm off my soapbox now...
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Congrats!! Haven't been on in a week or two - just learned of your great news.. You are a great motivator. Still sticking w/ Paleo as best I can down about 12 lbs - I guess the diet is going well as I can't remember if I started 3 or 4 wks ago - lol.. My crossfit is getter a little better - burpees are not as painful w/ the decreased weight - hoping to continue w/ crossfit and paleo for life.

I think you'll like this:

There's 6 or 7 parts.

There's one person in the group who never did Fran before the Level 1 course. From what I've read and heard, people of all abilities can pass the course.

Tim - you certainly know the way to my fitness geek heart... just downloaded & printed the guide... *swoon*

Thanks for that info!

It's probably like when I went to my PT seminar - I *thought* I'd be the most out of shape one there, but wasn't... so good to know this is the same. :)

Thanks to everyone for the congratulations.

Steph, it was great! The coaches really made it informative and enjoyable... however they still had fun running us through Fran! OMG.
There were lots of people that made their first pull-ups over the weekend (some didn't), it truly is for everyone. There were actually one or two people who were getting their first experience with CrossFit over the weekend! As you are a Journal subscriber, you can actually access the Training Manual on-line. It is pretty informative, but as with anything it is so much better/clearer/informative when you get to experience it hands on. They really brought it to life.

If you have any more questions you know where to find me...

Cheers,
Tim

YAY Coach Tim!

That's one thing I'm working towards, but first I want to be able to do pull ups unassisted. ;)

But on that note, were there people there that weren't up to that level yet? Or is there an expectation of what you're supposed to be able to do before attending?

Thanks and CONGRATS!!

Hello everybody!
Not so much an introduction (we may have crossed paths in the CF forums once or twice...) but I just wanted to announce that over the weekend I attended (and passed) a Level 1 Cert in West Palm Beach.
It was a fantastic experience and great to really get into the 'hows' and 'whys' of CrossFit.
I certainly hope to be able to impart some of my new found knowledge and experience to the members of my gym (and anyone here).

Tim
