I have been doing CF for a year now. I am going to be 50 this year.. and prior to CF I could feel the muscle melting off me. I was not able to run the mileage I did in my younge days and was about 20 pounds heavier than now. I did some weights in the gym but didn't know what I was doing and it wasn't very effective.

Then, I found Matt, my marvelous coach who looks out for me and has taught me everything I know. It has really changed how I workout and eat. It is still a journey but I feel like I'm going the right way.

Plus, love the folks in my morning class. thanks, chad, grace, christine, earl, and anthony. You will never know how much your support has meant. I never miss a 6:00 a.m. class and it's all because of you!

Hi All! Like Jaemi, I used to use SP all the time and have recently returned to using it as a way to track my nutrition. I've been CrossFitting for almost 7 months now and it has changed my life. My weight and activity level has fluctuated a lot since my mid-teens. Crossfit has been the one thing that's consistently been able to keep me coming back for more. I'm in the best shape of my life and looking forward to what I can achieve. Hopefully my nutrition tracking on SP will shed some light on how to improve and build performance.

I am Jaemi and a long time member of SP but have not been active for quite some time. I started CrossFit back in April and am loving it so much that I think I found my workout niche and something that will keep me motivated in my weight loss journey. I look forward to being part of this team and the added support and education about this sport and how I it can help me improve.

Hi, Chelsea here. 28y/o mom and wife. Joined crossfit 6 weeks ago, and I absolutely love it! I'm an old member of SP that recently go back on, looking for motivation to get in the best shape of my life. I suffered some health issues in 2009 that set me back 30+lbs. I am slowly recovering and reclaiming my body one day at a time. I've started blogging my journey and feel excited to get my body back, and even more excited to PR!!

You can google "vacation WODs" and get lots of helpful ideas. Here's one I like a lot (and is the top hit on google):

I just started crossfit a couple of months ago - now I'm moving so I'll be away from the gym for a couple of weeks, and need to find a new one! Tips for online sources for WODs?

Just a quick introduction to the board. I was just introduced to CrossFit in January and I really like it. I'm in school as well, so it's difficult to start new things - therefore I waited until finals were over before I really got started :) I'm hoping to get into a groove over the summer break so that when classes start my exercise time will not fall by the wayside even during this grueling next year.
I was injured in the Corps many years ago and I cannot do most sit-ups so instead I substitute Oblique Crunches and Knees to Elbows (on the floor). I follow Crossfit Mamas for my WODs.
We have 8 children (5 that I birthed) but I didn't start having weight issues until the youngest was about a year old - this and that later, I'm ready to start fresh and brand new, knowing my "limitations" and working solidly around them rather than using them as an excuse (specific to my injuries).

My name is V I'm 26 and finally found exercise I love! I was introduced to CrossFit while taking boxing a few years ago but I didn't start until October of 2012 when I moved close to my box. I drank the Kool-Aid and became addicted fast! I love bwating my P.Rs and have watched my body change! CrossFit has made me change how I view my body, I appreciate it now and instead of seeing all my faults I see strength. I have let go of the hopeless quest for "skinny" and gained a desire to be strong and healthy instead of a number on my scale or pant size! I look forwaed to the WOD and to doing CrossFit for the rest of my life!

You will never FIND time to do anything, you must MAKE it!

Hey all,

Started doing CrossFit and eating better in January to lose weight and gain strength and stamina. I turn 40 this July and I want to be down to 170 by then (then bulk up :) ). My max was 207 just before Christmas 2012. I'm down to 189, but I haven't been the box in a couple of weeks. Vacation (I was good and only gained 1.5 pounds) and I jacked up my left shoulder (going to the doc Tuesday).

Hi, All.

I'm new to this group...have been CrossFitting for 6 months...and I'll never stop! (Yes, I drank the Kool-Aid! Lol!) Started CF to train for an obstacle race.

I'm glad I found this group! As a 46-year old venturing into the sport of fitness, you can imagine the aches, pains and questions I have. Being one of the oldest members of my Box doesn't leave me with a lot of resources. My trainers are GREAT...but are a good 10+ years younger.

Looking forward to interacting with you all...and learning all that I can!

Hi everyone,
I'm new here. I've been doing crossfit since May and love it!!! I'm 55 overweight lady so started very slow with lots of modifications. Still it's busted my butt everyday and I'm working to improve. I still can't RX the workouts, that is a goal for sure. Right now I go to the gym 4 - 5 mornings a week. I'm a little in transition as I live in Maine but go to FL for the winter. I will be moving south in a few weeks. Luckily there is a gym there and I visited it a week ago on a quick trip south. I'll start posting my WOD's with my modifications. I have 30 pds left to lose, I've lost 37. The extra weight definitely makes some of the crossfit moves mch harder....like pull-ups. Still I feel like Crossfit has made me much stronger and will be a big part in helping me reach my goal weight.

I'm new, and actually haven't started CrossFit, but I found a gym in my area, and after Nov. 20th (don't ask!) I will have time to join it. I did send off a couple e-mails and am glad to see they work with people who may have problems with certain joints/muscle groups, as I do. (I CANNOT do squats, or run, due to a knee injury -- or any related exercise.)

I guess as a preliminary I am joining this Team. I am wondering if the WOD needs to be the same for everyone, considering the above. The indication is that we adapt, but I'd like to know more about what that means.

I'm on a whole-foods semi-Primal food plan. Since there's a lot of interactivity between the nutrition and the exercise, I'm seriously wanting to learn more, and how I can adapt this form of exercise to my own life. Thanks!

Yep, there I am, swimming through the desert sands. Might just be a mirage, after all. But this is life, and we learn best about it if we explore it, and take our chances. A life unexplored, after all, is one of the saddest things out there.

Hi! I'm new to this group & to crossfit. I just had my first baby in April & gained over 40 pounds during my pregnancy! My husband has been doing crossfit for a while & has had good results. I am desperate to get back down to 120 before trying for our second baby and I'm doing it the crossfit way. It's tough, but I walk away feeling great that I have accomplished the workout. We follow crossfit.com... I started July 15th, but took 3 weeks off between being sick & the passing of my grandfather. I started back up officially last week. It has been challenging, but I'm already seeing how much stronger I am now than I was when I first started! It really is addicting. I'm loving it!

Hello! I'm so excited to find this CrossFit board! I've been crossfitting for one year and am a Level 1 Trainer at my box. I've lost 45 pounds since I started CrossFit but am stuck because of poor eating habits. I've tried a strict Paleo diet but have found it difficult to maintain. I'm hoping to use the resources of this site to motivate me and keep me accountable to lose another 40 pounds.

Hello all, I just joined the team. Like POWERAUER I am curious about crossfit. I don't have a box in my town, so I'm having to wing it the best way I can and I am open to any pointers and tips that come my way.

Howdy! I've been curious about crossfit for a long time and finally joined a box last week. I'm an active-duty sailor training for my first marathon in October and I wanted to find a program that would allow me to strength train and run. Crossfit is the perfectfit (hehe). I blogged all about this today if you're interested in the long verison of my story ("cross-country and crossfit: satisfying two lovers").

I am super psyched that there are actually crossfitters on SparkPeople!! I've been crossfitting for 2.5 years and am totally addicted. That being said, I haven't drank all the kool-aid when it comes go the nutrition aspect. I've been on and off Sparkpeople since college, toyed with the Zone (I'm not one to weigh/measure my food to THAT extent), and can't seem to jump head first into paleo/primal.

Don't get me wrong, I have noticed a MAJOR change in my body since I've started at my box, I just need some motivation to get the diet under control to help keep the those changes from going backward.

And though she be but little, she is fierce.-Midsummer Night's Dream

Hello-
I am new to this team, but not new to Spark.
I just finished the On-ramp at my local crossfit, and have now registered for classes 3x/week. I am excited and am loving everything about crossfit so far. The intensity, the workouts, the strength I feel, and the community.
Glad to be a part of this team and community on spark.

Glenda

Hmm...if I could be doing anything else right now, I'd be crossfitting.

Hello! I've been working with a personal trainer for about 2 years, and about 5 months ago he started switching me to CrossFit workouts. He is now a CrossFit Level 1 trainer, and opened his own box May 1. At first it was pretty intimidating, but now I love my CrossFit wods. I still need to scale almost every workout - there are some things I can't do - yet - like toes to bar, unassisted pull-ups, and anything gymnastic. I was lucky enough to get to go to the Reebok CrossFit Games - Central East Regional, and see some of the most elite CrossFitters in the world. It was truly inspirational! I struggle with diet, and it is probably the most important element. I told my trainer last week that I'm finally tired of killing myself in the gym, and undoing it all when I get home. So, here's to finding some more support and finally kicking the pounds a way for good.

Weakness is a choice; I choose strength.

Hello! I started with my local CrossFit a year ago. Had a good run at first, then some injuries. I am now dealing with carpal tunnel in both wrists and am actively seeking substitutes for certain movements. I'm a 6am WODer, M-F and run 5k on Saturday/Sunday. Looking to go from 252 to 200 or so....soon!

Welcome Jennie! Good luck with CrossFit! Obviously everybody's diets are a bit different here, but for me I have been very successful with Paleo/Primal. I think it just makes sense but I would urge you to try for yourself. It really is a lot easier than it first appears.

Starlight - welcome to the team! It is not necessary to have a trainer or go to a CrossFit gym. A lot of people do it by themselves at home, or in a park etc... There are definitely advantages to going to a gym as you will have proper instruction and scaling for each of the workouts and exercises. There is also a tight bond that is formed between all of the people there, it really becomes like a family. That being said, it is a little more costly to join a gym.

Good luck! Hopefully this helps. If you have any other questions feel free to ask! :)

Hi All! I just joined this Team.. I am fairly new to what Cross fit is all about.. I have heard about it and took 1 class a few yes back but it scared the heck out of me haha! I have lost and gained weight over the years.. I have done all kinds of workouts but tend to get bored very quick.. I did complete the P90X last year dropped 13 lbs and got close to my goal weight but then stopped working out and watching what I was eating and low and behold put back on 20lbs.. So I am back at it yet again and need something that will keep me interested.

With Crossfit it is necessary to have a trainer or go to a crossfit gym class etc to reap the benefits of it or is it something I can do at home?? Any help will be greatly appriciated!!

Hi, all! I just joined the team. I start CrossFit on Monday. I am excited to see how I like it! I currently teach spinning classes 3 days a week and run 2-4 days a week. I also lift 3x a week. I start marathon training in June/July. Getting married 8/5 and obviously want to look amazing in my dress. I'd like to lose some bodyfat by then, hopefully 5-8 lbs, but I lose VERY slowly if history is any indication, so we will see. :/

Curious to learn how people are eating (Paleo, calorie amounts, etc) as I recently tried increasing my calories at the demand of a nutritionist who said I stalled my metabolism doing WW for years. Well, I tried for 4 months and all that happened was I gained. I also felt sluggish and uncomfortable. I was unhappy. So I decided to go back to my low calorie WW plan (old Momentum plan, none of this new PointsPlus nonsense) and felt better right away. Also lost about 4 lbs in 2 weeks. Since then I've plateaued, though, and have had a stomach bug and also ran the Ragnar Relay (Cape Cod) last weekend so my eating has been all over the place. I'm vegetarian so doing Paleo might be a bit of a challenge but I may give it a try anyway! I do prefer to eat clean.

Anyway, enough out of me. Hope to make some new friends!

Hey team!
Im Aundrea and I haven't done crossfit yet but I am waiting for a call back to find out when I start. I lost 50lbs through diet and exercise but can not rid myself of this last bit of fat I have. I love strength training. I am very intimidated by Crossfit but I think it is just what I need to get the ball rolling again. I am excited and nervous to start. I can't wait to finally be able to do a PULL UP!!!!

Welcome to the team and welcome to CrossFit Rachel!
Funny how those muscles start to show when you follow an effective weight training program and focus on your diet!?!? It seems so simple once you get into it...

If you have any questions please feel free to ask. We have a lot of knowledgeable and helpful people on this team.

Keep up the great work!
Good luck, and we are looking forward to watching your progress. :)

Hey All,
My name is Rachel and I started Crossfit a month ago. I'm really enjoying it and the place I go is super supportive whether you're lifting 50 or 250 pounds!

In the 4 weeks since I've joined I've really noticed a few muscles starting to appear, and have been able to focus better on what I am eating (No, I'm not doing Paleo but am monitoring calories easier) so its really motivating to be able to see results so far and not concentrate on the scale but on things like getting the first double under (still working on getting 2 in a row) and figuring out where my current limits are (verdict = much upper body strength required).

Hello! I have been a Crossfit lurker for about 6 months now, continuously telling myself that I couldn't do it...until yesterday. For some reason, I spent enough time on the CF site that I finally decided to just scale "Dianne" back and give it a shot. I am a day behind on the WOD, thanks to my third-shift work and sleep schedule, but I did it. My DLs were only 85lbs and my HSPUs were done piked on a chair, but I did them...all of them...even when I wanted to stop doing them. :)

My plan is to incorporate WODs into my "program" and to FINALLY finish the C25K program. I am on a mission to get my bf lowered and am hoping that this will help push me down further.

I am COMPLETELY INTIMIDATED by the idea of doing Crossfit, even though I finally proved to myself that I can, but I am also COMPLETELY EXCITED AND AMPED UP! :) I am having a hard time not running back out and testing myself to see what else I can do. Tomorrow...unless I find myself doing today's WOD this evening. lol

I look forward to learning from everyone here and to using this team as a huge tool in my success! Thank you, in advance!

I hope you're having a great Saturday!

Take care of you and stay true to your goals; everything else will fall into place! :)

I just wanted to stop in and say hi. I just signed up for my "on-ramp" classes starting tomorrow. I' not sure if this is standard for most gyms, but I have a 2 week 6 class introductory program starting tomorrow. I've been dabbling with the idea of crossfit for a while now, but with recently talking with an ortho about some knee pain he suggested less running, more cross training and lifting more, so Crossfit seemed like the perfect answer (the ortho agreed).

I started my weight loss journey 2 1/2 years ago, have completed numerous races including 4 half marathons, but I still can't seem to finish the toning and lose the last 5-10 lbs. Toning to me at this point is more important than the number on the scale, and I'm hoping crossfit will be the jolt to the system that I need to get there.

**Oh and my page is set to private. If you'd like to be friends, just shoot me a sparkmail.

Welcome to the team Frank!
I may not be as highly esteemed as Coach, but I try to help when I can...
Yes, WOD stands for 'workout of the day'.
It really helps coming from an athletic background, and the good thing with CrossFit is that it helps you improve on your weaknesses as it it is so diverse. And functional...

If you have any questions feel free to ask, there are many knowledgeable and helpful people in this team.

Good luck.

Hello, everyone, and thanks for the earlier hellos from a couple of you after I posted my swim workout. Much appreciated.

Two confessions right off the bat...

First, the swimming intervals will seem fast because they are relatively fast given my background (former Division 1 scholarship athlete). I mention this not to boast but to keep myself in check, with your help. You see, swimming is kind of like walking to me. If I do not push in the pool it just is not worth it. And actually, if I swim and only swim I am actually cheating. I have to do other stuff, which is what drew me to this team to begin with; Cross Fit should work nicely for me cause I can borrow the dry land workouts from others.

Regarding those workouts, comes my second confession. I am a bit cloudy on what WOD stands for, and I am hoping that Coach will not hold it against me. He is a military man so I will show a bit of respect.

Sir, I suspect that WOD stands for workout day. Is this accurate, Sir?

I would have been embarrassed to ask any of you committed folks in person, so the anonymity that this site features is cool by me.

Thanks for enduring this long intro. post. Hope to learn from you.

-Frank

Hi everyone, I'm Alissa, and I just started going to my local box [District Crossfit, in Wash. DC] at the beginning of November. Due to a number of old gymnastic injuries - ankles and shoulders - I'm having to scale down the workouts so that I can rebuild the strength/flexibility in those areas of my body that are...previously compromised, and I'm looking at this as an opportunity to really work on my form instead of just going balls to the wall out of the gate [tried that, and I'll be spending the next few weeks rowing instead of running...whoops].

I was wondering how you're able to post WODs to the fitness tracker, as I'm still not sure how to do that

Hello CF members, my name is Jessica, but you can call me Jess. I tried CF for about a month 2 years ago and really enjoyed it, but I let obstacles get in my way. I will be moving soon (in a few months) and have already contacted a CF team where I am going and plan on rejoining. Since I am not "active" on a team, I will be soaking up all the tips I can get and start practicing the WOD's at home. I have no equipment, SO, whatever on the daily WOD that can be done at home without equipment, is what I will do. Thanks for having me and I look forward to getting to know you all!

Hi Everyone

My name is Dawn and I've been Crossfitting for about 9 months now and love it! I'm so glad to see a Crossfit team on Sparkpeople. Trying very hard to eat Paleo. Been on and off for the last couple of months. Recently signed up for The Paleo Plan which gives me a meal plan, recipes and a shopping list every week. I'm hoping it will give me the tools to stick with it. Looking forward to getting and giving support on this team!!

Hello!

I bought a groupon 10 pack of crossfit in the Spring.. I waited until September to give 'er a go because I don't like the heat.. then did it slowly because I also run, was training for races and would be left sore for days so the two didn't mix well.. I just joined the box this week as a member.

How does one log a crossfit workout in the sparkpeople log?

I live in Ontario, Canada.

Hey everyone! I just went to my second class at a CrossFit gym in town and I love it so far! It's really challenging and I completely agree with the philosophies about nutrition, fitness, and supporting other athletes. It's frustrating because I'm not quite strong enough and/or flexible enough to have perfect technique right now, but I know it takes practice. I can't wait to be done with the elements course and get into the WODs with the rest of the crew! I started a blog to keep track of my progress and WODs and such. I'm going to take "before" pictures and measurements tonight so that I can see how my body is changing. I've got a lot of body fat to lose and I'm hoping to significantly improve my self confidence and my life over all. Good luck to everyone out there!

Hi Everyone! I've been doing crossfit for 10 months now and I'm obsessed! I just recently got over an elbow injury that caused me to do modified wods (no lifting, strictly legs and abs) for 3 months. I'm now back to full wods, and ready to kill it! emoticon

Hi, I am Joanne and am new to working out CrossFit. I also do the Paleo diet as well. Started last month after a friend of mine talked to me about both. I have lost 5 pounds since September 9th. I'll be honest and say I haven't been 100% as of yet - I find it hard to give up certain things like wine. I am working on cutting this out. Other than that, I too have had much more energy and don't constantly think and dream about food. I think it's because I got rid of carbs. I am doing crossfit workouts on my own. Hope this is the beginning of beautiful things.

I have been doing CrossFit training 3 days a week for a while now. The road has been slow and steady, but the trend has been weight loss with increasing lean body mass and better over all fitness and endurance, so I'll take it!!!

What I'm struggling with right now is trying to figure out what to eat. I want to lose weight, but I'm buring on average 4,200 - 5,000 calories a week (between 3 days CrossFit training, 1 day of indoor soccer, 1 day of outdoor soccer, Yoga 2-3 days and the occasional Kickboxing class at the gym). It's hard to know what to eat to keep the weight loss going, but to keep me fueled for how active I am.

Hi! My name is Nicole. I tried CrossFit a couple of years ago, and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to continue at the time. I am now going to start the Weight Loss Boot Camp which starts on August 22. I'm very excited about getting involved with CrossFit again! The workouts are crazy, but the progress made is incredible! Plus it's nice being in a small group and a workout "family"! It's so motivating when people that actually care are EXPECTING you to show up for the workouts and notice your absence when you are not there! It's like you HAVE TO go! :-)

Average is just as close to the bottom as it is to the top.

If you are new to Crossfit, or even if you have been doing it for a while, please take a few minutes to read this article from the NY Times and see if it is something you really want to be involved with.

Some of the gyms that do it might have safer trainers than the people the article talks about, but the energy of the whole organization is so extreme that people are bound to get injured. I know several people that are involved with Crossfit, and they've all had fairly serious injuries from doing the routines. Unless you are training for the Special Ops or another job that requires extreme levels of fitness, I would suggest that you stick with the YMCA or something else that's more reasonable and safe.

Welcome to everybody! Good luck and good health to all. We are a pretty active team here, and we encourage everybody to post all of their wods/results/questions/comments as often as possible to keep everybody accountable and to help motivate others!

RachG8R - unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), diet is the most important part in achieving a healthy lifestyle. About 80% of your body composition is determined by what you eat, so while exercise is great, changing the way you eat is far more effective in changing how you look. I am not exactly sure of the SBD, but my understanding is that it is pretty low carb (which I think is good). I don't really follow the Zone Diet either (but do understand it), but do adhere pretty closely to Paleo/Primal eating. My thoughts are that Paleo is all about the quality of the food you eat, while Zone is about more about the quantity. I do believe that Paleo coupled with Zone is a great combination. If you are interested in reading more on nutrition, I would suggest reading up on Paleo. My suggestion would be to get Robb Wolf's book, The Paleo Solution, or Mark Sisson's, The Primal Blueprint. They both have websites with great information as well.

If you have any other questions, or want to learn more, feel free to ask. We have a lot of great people in this team that are more than happy to help!

Tim

Hi,

This will be my 3rd week of doing crossfit. There are no gyms around where I live that do it. I got introduced to it by a personal trainer. It is a kick butt workout. I'm also excited about there being a sparkpeople team about it. Maybe that will keep me focused and motivated.

How close is the Zone diet to South Beach Diet? Is it worth getting the Zone book? Food is there area that I am weakest in.

Work Hard and Play even harder!

Howdy all,
My name is Steve, but I go by SP.
I've been Xfitting for about 1.5-2 years and I run an affiliate, CrossFit Gwinnett, out of my garage - you might have seen our vid on mainsite.
Anyhow, I've begun weighing and measuring again and am glad to find some CF-ers on SparkPeople.
In addition to monitoring my food intake I am biasing my programming toward longer WOD's because that is where I suck the most.
The last two WODs I did:

Tuesday I did: 10 rounds of 10 forward rolls and 200m sled push (70#)
Wednesday: 12 minute AMRAP: 14 sledgehammer strikes and 8 pistols.

Additionally I had surgery to reattach my distal biceps tendon about 4 months ago - it's a slow recovery estimated at relatively full recovery by Fall. I've not been on a pull-up bar in over 5 months, not to mention no muscle ups!!!!! It sucks!

Glad to join this group and have some fellow people around.

Hey everyone! I've been doing CrossFit for about 3 months now - mostly out of my garage. I did take a beginners series at my local gym and LOVED it! Trying to work a membership into my budget.
I found CrossFit trying to change up my strength training routines which I've been consistently doing for about a year. I also do martial arts and despite all that exercise I still had fat and a belly.
Changing to a Paleo/Primal diet has had the biggest impact on me energy wise as well as slimming down my biggest problem areas. CrossFit workouts are so awesomely hard that I was smitten right away! :P
Haven't been to this site for awhile, but wanted to track my food and look at it from a Zone perspective which I am reading up on now.
Currently, I am nursing a noisy sciatic nerve and researching more things CrossFit.
SO happy to find this group! WOD on!

Hi All! I just started CrossFit this past week and it has been kicking my booty. I love it! I saw there was a team for it and had to join. Any advice for newbies is appreciated. Have a great day everyone!

Hi, I am new to the team too. I use crossfit for cross training for riding. My increased strength and speed has already helped keep me safe. I thought I was in shape and had balance and crossfit has put it to a new level. I finally am getting the hang of what to do for everything except the doubleunders. Any and all advice on how to do a single doubleunder would be appreciated. I figure once I can do one then I can work on, well, two. :D

Hi, I'm new to the team. My hubby does crossfit currently. I did it for one month a while back and can't wait to go back... Unfortunately, I'm waiting for our car to be paid off before doing so (August!)... I'm also looking to lose some weight between now and then so that I don't have to scale the entire workout! Our local affiliate is great, very accepting and in no way judgmental. Funny, Planet Fitness calls themselves the "no judgement zone" but crossfit is much more so than they are!

Linda :-)

I'm new to the team. My workout partner insisted that I try a crossfit workout with her about 3 months ago and all I can say is WOW! I have seen great results. We don't belong to a crossfit gym but she and her husband have just about everything we could need in their garage. I often modify workouts but I'm making good progress. I look at the workout everyday. I'm a runner but lately I've been soooo bored on the treadmill. Crossfit is just what I needed! Glad to have found the group.

Hi all. I'm a crossfit newbie and honestly, I don't know how much I can bring to this team.
First off, there are no crossfit gyms within a 2 hour drive of me. Nor anyone who is certified. I got interested in crossfit when hearing about a friend's results with it, and did some research. BUT I'll have to do it all at home.
Secondly, at home, I only have max 10 lb dumbbells, and some bands. My house will not really suuport a pull up bar (honestly it won't-I've tried) And it's a tiny space.
Thirdly, I'm finishing up a round of P90X, and won't actually start crossfit until after March 20th. I'm hoping to make 2 weighted balls to use, and hopefully it will be fair enough outside so that I can run and do a lot of the WOD's outside.

All this means that I will be picking and choosing my WOD's, and seeing what I can do with it.

I also hope that I can do some of this at school (I teach public school) and can do some of the WOD after the school day on the playground (pull ups on the jungle gym). Plus, I think I've talked another teacher to do it with me. Or some of it anyway.

I did Annie yesterday (with Jump Tucks instead of Double Unders) in 17 min. So at least I know what I have to work from. Right now it's a PB, but not for long, I hope!

Any help that you and your expertise can give me about doing this at home would be great!

Wanted to introduce myself. I've been doing "unofficial Crossfit" for a few months (my husband has been doing Crossfit for about a year), but quit for various reasons over the holidays. A good friend recently got Crossfit certified and I have recently started back working with him. SO intense, but so good too. Goal for the year (hopefully more like 6 months) is to be able to do WODs without modifying. Working on getting food back under control as well. Looking forward to having a place to post and see what others are doing!

Hey Crossfit family,

I just wanted to introduce myself to the team. I am 5 weeks in to crossfit and I'm loving everything about it!! I have been on spark for a few months but have not used it fully until recently I began to spend a little bit more time going through and learning how to take advantage of all that it has to offer.

I was wondering how ya'll track your WODs as your fitness. I was looking it up on my phone app and there wasn't a wall ball option and I figured there has to be an easier way to track all that I'm burning.

You will be amazed at what you'll be able to accomplish physically after a little time training with Crosfit. It's tough, but you'll look forward to pushing yourself each day.

I just had a consult at the local CrossFit gym, and I am hoping to start up with classes next week. I'm pretty proud that my baseline took 8min 43sec...placing me between novice and intermediate. It was those damn push ups that killed my time, but at least I know where I need the most work (upper body).

I am excited to join a community where there is support and encouragement, where I can push myself and see real results. Although, to be honest, I am a bit scared at how difficult it will be.

I'm re-introducing myself after being gone for about 6 months or so. I'm Angie and I've been CrossFitting for about 1 1/2 years. I'm proof positive that 80% of weight loss comes from diet. I work my butt off in the gym, but haven't seen a lot of success on the scales. I've been doing Paleo lately and saw some great success with it, but took a little break (dumb move) for the holidays. Now it's time to start fresh and I decided to come back to SparkPeople for some help with that.

My gym became an official affiliate in October and I've been leading our beginner class since then. At first I was hesitant to do so due to my weight, but I love doing it and the people seem to enjoy me as their instructor. I want to lead by example, so I've got to get my butt in gear.

Look forward to getting to know the new people and get reacquainted with old friends.

Today was my first full class after 3 intro sessions. I am sore and tired! I'll sleep well tonight I think :)

The WOD's are tough but this seems to be the perfect mix of intensity and group pressure to help me get stronger, lose weight, and work out some of my stress.

Hi everyone!

I started CrossFit about 3 1/2 months ago here in the Bay area, CA. I finished P90X earlier in the year and was trying to decide what to do next. I was going to repeat P90X, but then my wife told me about CrossFit and I decided to check it out. The first couple of weeks were certainly intense and hard. It made me sore in all new ways. But, I stuck with it and I'm hooked! It has made a huge difference in my overall strength and fitness.

Hello!

I started crossfit in march of 2009, I've been doing it off and off since then. I currently live in Afghanistan and I'm trying to get back in the habit, though it's harder to do without other xfitters around so perhaps this team will help. Still, I absolutely love it and feel so much better when it's part of my routine.

ETA: How do people track crossfit on spark? I suppose I could just add the weight training, but it seems like more than that since they tend to be rather dynamic workouts.

Hi Everyone!

I started CrossFit 2 months ago and have already become addicted as I have pretty much rearranged my life to fit my affliate's schedule. I do 5 on and 2 off since they are not open on the weekends. I have already noticed huge differences in my strength, body definition and energy levels! I don't get on SP much anymore, but that was because I never saw anything about CF, and then I decided to search for it and found this team! Glad I found it!

CrossFit makes me happy!

Hi there! My name is Melissa and I would have never discovered crossfit but I work with one of the instructors at the local cf gym and him and my husband dragged me in kicking and screaming! I thought it would be too elitist for me but was proved wrong as they showed me how all of the exercises could be scaled down to my (non-existent) fitness level. Going on my fourth week, I've lost 20 lbs can run now and have oodles of energy! I'm addicted!!

Hey CF community! My name is Carlos and I've been doing CF for about six months. I started back when I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and have since moved to San Diego, and have joined up with CF Pacific Beach. I've been on SparkPeople for just over two years on/off again, but think that this may be the place for me to talk to other CrossFitters like myself who are also big on losing weight, getting fit, and staying healthy. I have just been certified as a Level 1 CrossFit trainer, so I look forward to talking to all of you, and learning from you as well. www.pbcrossfit.com/

Hello everyone! I had heard about CrossFit about summer of last year from a friend of mine who had said a lot of good things about it. He gave me a sample work out and those exercises really do work you. I joined this team because I really want to step up my strength training, lose body fat, and eventually get fit. It may take me a while to get used to the CrossFit program because it had been a while since I really strength trained. Currently, I am doing a kettlebell training program but like to add some crossfit exercises and eventually work my way up to where I can keep up with the CrossFit program. Well, glad to be part of the team, I hope to learn a lot and get healthier in the process!
Thanks!
Rachel

I'm an on-again off-again crossfitter. We have a really great affiliate here. My off-again times are due to expense. My kids are in college. Money is tight. I just started up again, doing a gals bootcamp 3x week. I love this stuff. I tried p90x, but had trouble sticking to the plan, because I dislike Kenpo and I loathe Yoga. I enjoyed the rest, but got bored with the same workouts over and over. Our local health club is doing a program similar to Crossfit. It's based on the TRX-strap workout. I did that for a few months. It was a killer workout, but for the extra expense I'd rather just stick to Crossfit.

hello...i am glad i found ya'll. i started crossfit last year and i LOVED it, i did not lose a lot of weight but could tell my body was changing ( i have a lot to lose) but i also could not go more than 2 times a week..anyway were were just fixing to up the amount and make a commitment to going more when life stepped in and said sorry there is a new path--so after a year and an adoption of 2 kids finalized we went back last week and we went 4 days and i can tell a difference, They scale the WOD way down for me right now..like Thursday was 3 snatch, 15 overhead squats and 400 m run 5 rounds...i did 3 rds 3 snatch, 15 unwaighted overhead squats using PVC pipe and 400m row...still took me 20 minutes to complete. My trainer is also adding in 15 min of cardio to my work outs to help me get the weight off so that has been awesome
I am glad i found others---this stuff is addictive and to think my husband almost chickened out last year and i am the one that said man up and lets for try this ;

If you would like to join an affiliate, just search crossfit. The mainsite has a listing of all the affiliates by state then city. All the local boxes have a policy of drop in to visit and see what we are all about. Then you would need to take a fundamentals class to get started.

It is the best thing I ever tried. I have been crossfitting for 2 years and can't imagine giving it up.

Crossfit has changed me and my body. I do San Francisco Crossfit 3-4 times/week, and while I often don't really "love" it while I'm doing it, I absolutely love it, if that makes any sense! My good friend (who is now a coach there) pulled me out of my gym and over to crossfit a few months ago, and I've felt like a beast ever since!! With my schedule filling up a bit, I'm starting to do more crossfit workouts at home on my own now.

I'm wondering where I would start with CrossFit?

The following is a long story.
Short story is I'm glad I found SparkPeople.

Longer story, I've never trained with fitness in mind. I've always trained because there was some challenge I wanted to take on. My first was a sprint triathlon at age 25, 103lbs. I didn't know what I was doing but I had a lot of fun and was happy with my results.

My fitness since then has declined although I did four (4) more tri's and two marathons.

Thirty years ago I took an aikido class for about six (6)weeks. I finally took up the sport again in 2006. I love every minute of it. To learn more about the attacks, I started studying karate which led to a tournament last year. To get in shape for the tournament, I started P90X. I did that for 8 weeks and did well in the tournament.

I've started back on P90x with some modifications to increase my cardio fitness.

My goals are to
lose weight.
Be in shape for pregnancy.
Run faster.
Improve balance and response for martial arts.
Improve my "resiliency" overall
Be in shape for pregnancy.

Hi all! I have been working out with a Crossfit affiliate gym in Aurora, CO for a little more than 2 months. I love it! The group and trainers are awesome and provide me with more than enough motivation to make it to the workouts and do my best on the WOD's.
This is a great sport for any one who gets bored with a regular routine like me. With so many possibilities and goals to reach within Crossfit I think I am hooked indefinitely.
Glad to be part of this team!
