Hi! I'm Fran from MD. I joined SP last year with over 115 lbs to lose. Didn't do much on SP until December when I really started to take advantage of all the unique features this community provides. Since January I've dropped 15 lbs! Although this is my first post here, I've been motivated by reading posts from you all. Tks.

They say three times a charm? I hope so. I joined Sparkpeople last year and fell off the wagon twice, so now here I am again! Hey! It took more than one try to stop smoking, so why not more than one try to lose weight, right? I did succeed in losing the weight, I just gotta learn to keep it off! LOL It's good to be here and I love to read all your posts! :)

Hello everyone! I've actually been a member of Spark People a little over a year now. I fell off the wagon and started back up again at the end of Feb 2009. My weight has been up an down so much in the last 5 years I don't know where to begin. After I had my youngest child in 2004 I weighed somewhere around 263 pounds. In 2006 decided enough was enough and lost 75 pounds in about 6 months. I wasn't able to keep it off for long and before I knew it I had ballooned up to 280 pounds. That's when I found Spark people. I was able to lose about 30 pounds which brought me down to 250 pounds. I then lost my job and became very depressed, I again ballooned back up and this time I was at my highest weight ever of 290 pounds!!! So here I am again. Attempting this for my third and hopefully last time. I'm down 31 pounds so far and feeling good.

Whether you think you can or think you cant, your right!

Hi everyone,
I joined a month ago, but promptly went away on vacation. I'm back now. I'm 48 and the mother of 2 grown children. I've been overweight all my life, but as I'm watching my weight stay the same and my middle get bigger, I know I have to do something. So here I am. Laura

Hi Everyone! I started on 2/28 so this puts me in at the tail end of this group. I'm 38, married and have two children - one a teen and one under 5, and live in FL. I'm also a 2 year breast cancer survivor. My friend Melissa introduced me to SP and I'm ever so grateful. I started this journey at 182 and I'm already down 4, but would like to reach 140 by July 31.

It's great to have the support of so many wonderful people.

Hi I'm Cheryl, I joined Spark Peopel about two weeks ago now so I think it puts me in this group. I have been plugging along and have lost three pounds so far! I tried Spark People before and burned out because I tried to do everything all at once. Now I am actually following the steps they recommend. Hope to meet some of you.

YOU CAN DO IT!!! Keep up your water aerobics classes and switch things up 1-2x p/week. Sometimes the body gets too used to things.

I was once 306lbs. I have WLS and got down to 135, then an emotionally bad year, miscarriage, and back surgery - gave me the excuses I needed to eat. Today I am 170. I am too ready to be healthy again, and anytime you need a word of encouragement, just give a shout out. We won't let you down.

Hello all! I'm 34 years only, married, no kids(yet) and am significantly overweight. Someone in my water aerobics class told me about SparkPeople and I am hooked (it seems to even be taking about from my Facebook addiction). I ready to get healthy again so we can try to have a baby in the next year or so. Looking forward to taking this journey with all of you. Good luck to us!!

"BABYEL", you CAN do it! Don't try to completely change yourself overnight. Old habits die hard and new ones take time to learn. Approach each meal choice individually, on its own. For example, Steak and Baked Potato w/ everything: Eat your steak, about as much as the size of your palm, and have some of that potato. Maybe choose between the sour cream and butter - one or the other. That way you know you have made progress and your mind doesn't think you have deprived your body. If in doubt that extra glass of water before a meal and filling out with salad can always help.

Congrats for WANTING to change to a healthier lifestyle. YOU CAN DO IT!

Hello! I'm Courtney, and I'm 26. I'm out of shape and a little bit overweight (like .5lbs by BMI calculations) but I want to be comfortable and happy with my body. My husband also joined last weekend, but he's a little quieter than I am.

I was down to my lowest weight, about 142.5, a couple of years ago. But I was on a diet and didn't really permanently change my eating habits, which is why I'm here! I have IBS but still go for foods that I know are bad for me, and my stomach. I'm hoping to condition my mind to think about food differently. I hope I can do it!

Hey everyone. I have been on spark people for a week now and i am really enjoying it. There are a lot of little goals on here and a ton of information. I really like this diet the best out of all the ones i have tried because they really set you up to do this easily and its actually more of a life change. ASHBUR75, I actually did weight watchers maybe 2 years ago, and yes it works, but its not really a life change, once i decided i was done and lost my weight i went right back to my regular life and gained it all back and then some. Plus this is FREE!! so i can do this forever with out making my DH sweat. Anyways... I am hoping to meet some new people so i can put some more friends on my spark page. have a good day!

Checking your thyroid doesn't take much and can make a huge difference in your body temperature, energy and weight gain. I recently found out I had hypothyroid (underactive). It changed my whole life to get on medication (cheap and once a day). I'm not so cold all the time. I'm NEVER sick and I used to be sick all the time. Also, I had a few miscarriages before they found the thyroid problem. Don't put it off. It's only a blood test usually unless the thyroid is enlarged... then they do an ultrasound. It's all simple and painless.

Bottom line is it's all about the love we have for ourselves. Most of us aren't good at that. But learning to love yourself more makes us better at loving everyone else in a healthier way as well.

Good luck in your journey. Cindy

Hi all, I'm Tammy. I am 36 years old. I am the mother of 2 beautiful girls 12 and 10 years old. I am trying to learn the many pieces of this site. I was a member of BL for over a year. I lost 39 pounds and then gained 11 of it back. I can't seem to get motivated again. I was hoping to find a new group of people, ideas, and system to get me going again. Something I can really stick with. So far everything looks great.

Hi everyone, I am a 35 year old mother of 2 from Richmond, VA. I stumbled on SP when I was looking for a calorie calculator and tracker. I was thin through my first two years of college, then got married and gained a ton of weight during my two pregnancies. My kids are now 10 and 14. I went from 110 to 195 at my highest and I am slowly moving back down the scale...but I need motivation and I need to pay attention to what I am eating. I am using SP along with WW because I am trying to join the Army National Guard and need to get that weight off - down to 140 and I want to go through Basic this summer. I can't tell if I am obsessed with losing weight this time, or if I am just addicted to SP. But, I am glad to find something on line that supports my goals and introduces me to other folks who are trying to lose as well. I hope everyone succeeds!

Hi Everyone. I am Jorie from Milwaukee Wisconsin. I am new to SP - joined this past weekend. I joined when the site I was using to track calories discontinued. So far I have done a little exploring and I love the site. I made a commitment to myself a year ago that I would make a lifestyle change to eat healthy and exercise. I also wanted to lose the weight but my primary motive was to be healthier. So far in a little over a year I am down 98 lbs and really looking forward to hitting the 100 lb mark. I never really had a weight loss goal before and have been so overweight for so long that I had no idea what a good weight would be. Now I do have a weight loss goal also and wnat to get down to 135 lbs by the end of Feb next year - although I hope to do it sooner.

Making little improvements every day. Loving the lifestyle change.

Jorie

Hi everyone! My name is Rachael and I'm 24 years old. About a decade ago I managed to lose 70 lbs but I've slowly gained 30 of it back! I think that I was too skinny last time and would just like to lose about 10 lbs.

I do aerobics for 25 min, 6 days a week. I also try to get in an extra 5-10 mintues before every meal. However, I have a very weird schedule and hardly ever get to do that. I also have to plan my meals around my work. I work afternoons and generally end up eatting dinner during a 15 minute break at work. Microwaveable meals help me get by.

My fiance and I just bought our first house. This is the first time either of us have lived away from home and I am interested to see what this does to my diet! I also can't wait for it to get warm enough to garden. I imagine that will boost my activities quite a bit!

hi everyone! my name is jenny and i'm 19 years old. in the past i have had a lot of weight-cycling issues due "black-and-white" eating habits, meaning either stuffing myself or starving myself. yet, i'm tired of this and of feeling tired and unhealthy. so this time around i'm changing my habits and trying to do things the right way. it'll be a challenge but i have to keep reminding myself that slow and steady wins the race ;)
this is a little late to be introducing myself but i just wanted to say that i couldn't help but read through everyone's post...i have already fallen in love with this site, such a supporting community. thank you all for being so open and welcoming

Anytime, and I mean ANYTIME you need a boost, give a shout out! I was once 306, got down to 135 and am up to 175, but joined Spark people. You can do it. And I would welcome the opportunity to support you! I am a newbie, but I know how important support and affirmation can be.

Hi, everyone. I'm 34, from Texas, have a 17 year old son, and I'm trying to get healthy. I got engaged last fall (wedding in June) and had a yearly physical a month later in which the doctor told me that I was headed for diabetes and other health problems if I didn't change my habits to more healthy ones. Between the two, I have some motivation. So here I am, trying to focus on healthy eating, exercise, and drinking more water. Hopefully we can encourage each other!

Hello everyone Im new here too.
Im 39 and from BC canada. Im horrified to admit that in the last 7 month's Ive gained 40lbs and I dont know how! Im always tired and cold.. my b/f thinks I may have a thyroid condition but I havent had time to check that out yet.
I was bulemic for 5 years but refuse to begin the binge/purge cycle again. I have body dysmorphic disorder and struggle with a few EDs including extreme caloric restriction. After going a few weeks on nothing but popcorn and an apple Ive ended up in the hospital with kidney trouble more than once, so I have quit doing that as well..but it's so tempting, especially when I can not figure out how to lose the weight Ive gained without either starving or purging.
so here I am.

Im trying to learn to be healthier. I saw sparkpeople on a tv program I watched tonight called "diet trends" (I think) and it looked really great, so Im here to check it out.

I look forward to getting to know you all.
kind regards, Tess.

Hi Mrs4WheelBob,

My husband had WLS in 11/05. He was 404 pounds on the day of surgery. He drank before his surgery, but his drinking intensified 50 fold after the surgery and he became a full blown alcoholic. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 01/06 and underwent two types of chemotherapy as well as internal and external radiation. I have never been stick thin, but these last few years have been pure, living hell!!!!! When I was diagnosed, I never once believed that I would not be OK. I knew God would not take me away from my family. I came through my treatments fine, tired, but fine. But my husband's alcoholism was difficult at best. I didn't know how to help him. I spent the last three years in such a deep depression. My life consisted of going to work, eating, chain smoking, and sleeping.

My husband finally agreed to go into treatment on January 5th. What I learned was his treatment was for HIM alone. I had to work on ME to heal me. In MY treatment, I learned that I was a classic Codependant. I was so concerned with everyone around me, and felt guilty about doing anything for myself. Once I realized this, and the fact that I had a tendency to let the past creep into my present, I made a conscience decision to let the past go, take time for myself, and accept that the only person I had total control over in the world was me. Those around me have to become responsible for themselves and they have to be accountable for their decisions. While I love my husband deeply, I had to tell him that if he decided to drink again, that was his decision, but my decision was that he could no longer live under the same roof as me. That was a hard decision for me, but it was necessary to both of us. All those years that I spent cleaning up the wreckage of my husband's decision to drink only contributed to his addiction. I never allowed him to suffer any consequences.

In moving forward, we DO NOT throw the past up in each others face. We take it One Day At A Time. My husband has been sober since Jan 5th and so far, so good. We are committed to making things work, and we truly love each other. Since we have both gotten our mental health on the right track, I decided now is the time for me to get my physical health on track. Not only have I entered this journey to lose the excess weight and make healthier food choices, I have also quit smoking.

The Serenity Prayer and God play a large role in my life now. God has truly given my the serenity to accept the things I can not change (I have let go of the past), the courage to change the things I can (my health), and the wisdom to know the difference.

I hope that my journey to get where I am today has given you some hope.

Hello Everyone:-) My name is Melissa. I found SP like a year ago and joined, but never really did anything with it. Last weekend I decided to really give it a go, since I haven't been able to lose weight on my own. I am hoping that the support and motivation will keep me going and help me to FINALLY reach my goals:-)))

Hi people. I'm Sarah, and I'm 21. I've just found sparkpeople, and I'm very glad to be able to track nutrients--i have a major case of anemia. I'm not looking to lose a lot of weight, I'm going for the nutritionally heathly/ athletically fit road. I'd love to have some people to talk to while I'm at it!

Hi! I'm Heather and I'm 21. I've been off and on with SparkPeople for the past year or so.
This weight-loss is an everlasting journey it seems. My main problem is staying motivated and just ending up " not caring ", when deep down.. I do care. :)
I am excited to get to know everyone and making some good friends in this same journey.

Hi, I'm Gina and I have kinda let things get out of hand. At my highest weight I was 306lbs. I had WLS and got down to 135lbs. over the last year I have gained some of my weight back. What can I say, it was a tough year emotionally and food doesn't talk back. Add to that major back rebuilding surgery 10/07 and I still wasn't able to move too well through the first 1/3 of last year. So now it is time for me to get right with my body and my mind, and I could use some support. So here I am. After reading alot of the intro's, I think I have found a place to land.

I am really glad to be here and look forward to running into alot of you on the forums. emoticon emoticon

Hello! My wedding is 10-10-2009, but I'd really like to shape up before my fiance's brother's wedding in June. I'm the heaviest I've ever been, and though it's not terrible, I'm A.) not happy about it, B.) feel low on energy & mood, & C.)want to do something before the 17 lbs overweight becomes 20, 25, 30, 50....

I work a corporate drudge sort of day job & belong to a theatre company. I also read a lot & watch to much TV. I used to write, but I haven't done much of that lately.

2 cats, 1 fiance, 0 motivation.

Hello everyone, my name is Stacey and I am here to get healthy again. I was diagnosed with PCOS last year and have subsequently been fighting with medications and weight gain and doctors galore to get healthy again. Not only is my weight putting me in the high risk category for heart disease and diabetes, but my PCOS is putting me at risk for ovarian cancer. The only cure for this disease is a healthy lifestyle and weight loss, and that is why I am here.
I hate to be dramatic, but I feel like I am fighting for my life and for the chance to see my 2 children grow up and have families of their own. I'm married to my wonderful husband, Bill, who is in the Air Force and we are stationed overseas.

Nice to meet you all. Best of luck to all of you. emoticon

Good luck with everything.

Hi Lisa I am in the same position, I am 27 and need to lose 50lbs my goal is also to have a healthy BMI and not have any health problems. I regularly go to ballroom and latin dancing and although I haven't let my weight stop me going to such classes and doing the things I want in life, I do feel I could dance more and feel a little better afterwards if I wasn't carrying this weight! Good luck with your plan keep me updated.

Hi all, I'm Lisa. I'm 25, and I've joined to try and lose the weight that has been dragging me down since I started gaining during my freshmen year at university. I'd like to look better, be healthier, and lower my cholesterol (which is something you really shouldn't have to worry about at 25!!) I've managed to cut most processed foods out of my life, except for the occasional treat, and now I need to work on portion control and cutting back on the homemade cookies emoticon

I'm a Ukrainian dancer, and dropping the 50 lbs I'd like to leave in the dust can only improve my dancing abilities, which would be a huge plus for me. Being in the healthy BMI range is really my ultimate goal. I'm really looking forward to getting to know all of you on the team.

Hi, i'm Elena, i joined 2-22 and been busy just getting to know this site and tracking my food. I'm a working mom of four kids. Sometimes I wonder when I had the time to put on all this exess weight?
I've struggled with weith issues in the past, but managed to lose around 60 pounds and keep them off for 10 years. Then after moving half way across the world, and settling into a new life, i started putting on weight, slowly but steady...
I've been trying to lose it half-heartedly, but that doesn't seem to work. Duhh:)
So here I am, determined to get creative and sculpt away on this big chunk of clay that I call my body.
Slowly but steady!

Hi everyone!
I am Danalia, a 26 year old college student in the beautiful Pacific NW! I am a certified fitness trainer, and have worked in the field for six years. I am also an assistant to a basketball team. I would have never believed that I would become 60 pounds overweight, I am ashamed, and I feel of all people I have no excuse. For me it isn't the lack of knowing what to do, but the lack of motivation. I have spent the past four years so focused on my education, I let my body and social life go. Not only do I feel my career as a trainer is in jeopardy, but my health also if I don't get in control soon. Hopefully I will find the support and motivation I am looking for on sparkpeople.

I'm 22 yrs old... have 2 certificates... now just out of college... I live in Canada, its cold here today -31 celcius with the windchill... i am active in sports... not as competitivly as i was in highschool and college but i still play.

Basketball is my first love, but all sports are fun. I rather play a game of basketball all day then workout, but its not possible, with work and all. So womens leauge it is. I play basketball at least once a week, soccer every thursday... i also have a ride/spin class every monday wed fri at lunch for 50 minutes... so i am staying at the same weight.. i would like to drop 10 lbs... in a month or so... im starting to eat differently Monday and making my boyfriend do it with me as well.

Its hard when money is tight, eating healthy is not cheap. Also i only eat chicken for meat so if you have any reciepes that are low cal, easy to make, and fast and inexpensive with chicken i would apprieciate it!.... emoticon

Hi everyone! I'm a 22 year old pre-k teacher from Oklahoma. I have gained a lot of weighted since I graduated college and stopped being involved in so many activities and sports. I am a bridemaid in May and then my wedding is in July. I would like to be happy with my size so I can enjoy these special days without feeling ugly and fat!

Hi. I'm 38. I live in Montana. I'm married to my wonderful husband of twelve years. We have 5 young kids whom I have the delight of teaching at home. My days usually begin before everyone is up and ends when everyone is down. Because I need incentive to keep me on the ball sometimes - exercising, drinking my water and such, I joined SPARKPEOPLE. It's been a lot of fun navigating the site, developing my own SPARKPAGE, and joining teams.

Sometime in September, I'm to speak at a conference on the east coast. At the time I'll see family and friends I haven't seen in years. My goal is to be "radiantly healthy-looking and fit" at that time.

Hello everyone, I am Shannon. Just recently married with a recent hysterectomy, I found an extra 20 lbs in about 4 months that I would like to lose. I lost 100 lbs about 5 years ago on my own, it wasnt easy but after the recent hormone change, it is really challenging. I do walk at the gym 4-5 times a week for 5 miles and try and get in some strength training. Have never been on a site like this before and I am looking forward to talking to others with the same struggle...again Hello....
