Hi everybody! I'm 38 and live in Seattle, Washington. I'm a mom and a part-time teacher. I've always done exercise in my life, but have also always struggled with food and my weight. I think about it all the time and rationalize excuses in my head. Since I got started on SP, I've noticed the rationalizations are going away - I just can't argue with the cold, hard, numbers. I am also realizing that some of my regular food choices are 'expensive' in calories, so now I really think about what I'm willing to give up for the rest of the day if I really want to have that food.
So now instead of the constant rationalizations, I am spending a lot of my time (too much?) thinking about and using SP, my Nutrition Tracker, etc.
I am seeing results, so that is a really positive thing..
Good luck to everyone, and I'm glad to find this team. For some reason, I didn't know about it until I started browsing through the Teams.

i have a cat at home to!!
my cat (her name is funny) is dabetic.
I used to be verry heavy and was almost a diabetic now my cat has it.
wierd.....
i did not loose much in the last 2 weeks (like 1 pound....) but the excersice is going so good that i have a diffirent size now....
yesterday i tried this dres (size m...) on and i'm in love with meself.....

Hi, my name is Annette from Wisconsin. I am one of those lucky people who was always skinny. My mother-in-law always told me it would change but I didn't believe her. Well, she was right. Now I'm packing 20 extra pounds and still gaining. My bad eating habits that never affected me haven't changed and that is what I hope to be working on. I'm very discouraged because the weight isn't coming off even though I'm trying to be careful and using the wonderful tools on this site. Not so easy after 50! But, I'm hanging in there. If nothing else, want to get my cholesterol down. Looking forward to spring!

New here. I have been meaning to post, and just realized I have not. I am trying to lose a whole person worth of weight emoticon and need help getting there. When I am psyched up, I am good. But I never seem to have enough motivation for the whole journey. I lost 50 pounds about two years ago, and have put more than half back on. At least I am not at square one! I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and being challenged.

Goals: First 10% by my Birthday (5/27/14)

Second Goal: 50 pounds gone by August 9th

Hi!

My name is Leah. I'm 26 and from Iowa. I'm finishing up law school and getting ready to head back out into the "real world." I've struggled with my weight pretty much my whole life. As a runner, I was always reminded to keep it off, which led to some rather unhealthy habits. In law school I met a wonderful guy and in the course of our relationship, I've gained 25 lbs. I'd like to lose that weight and that last 15-20 lbs I packed on during college. I love working out when I'm in shape. Getting back to that level of fitness has been a challenge. After several years of running, my knees finally rebelled, so I now have to get creative with my cardio.
I love this site and look forward to making friends and reaching my goals!emoticon

Just finding my way on the team, have been checking out all the great things on the web site. I'm fast becoming addicted. lol

My name is Tami and I live in Florida. I joined SP as part of a company wide weight loss challenge. I have been getting healthy since January, and have had good results. I hope that I can maintain the pace to reach a goal weight by my Birthday in July.

Hello all. I'm from Springfield, Oregon. I have four great children that have all had various struggles. They are 12, 14, 16, and 20. I have been divorced for 6 years and am getting remarried this Summer to a wonderful man that loves us all so much. He has two boys so I will become a step-mom as well. They are great kids. I have struggled with weight all my life but I am determined to find victory and stop eating for comfort. God has been good to me and I want to make the most of what He's given me. I'm only 5'0" and I now (as of yesterday) weigh 196. I started at 205 and was down to 194.2. I don't understand the small gain because I'm doing what I'm supposed to but I'm not giving up. I would like to get down to 168 by my wedding in June. That's not my final goal but I'm being realistic. I started doing a very hard Jillian Michael's workout every day so maybe I'm gaining muscle. Best wishes to all of you on your journey.emoticon

Hi. I am not sure if I have posted an intro or not to this group..but, I don't think so. MY name is Melissa. I live in a small rural town in Texas. I am married and we have a 6 year old little boy. I have struggled with my weight most of my life, but it really became out of control in the last 6 years. At my heaviest I weighed 261. I now weigh 237. My goal weight is 130. So I have 107 pounds to lose.

Hi Team, nice to get to know you all here.

I am 32 and living in beautiful British Columbia. I have gained approximately 35 pounds in the last two years and have tried several "crash diet" attempts, which have each resulted in ten or so pounds lost then an almost immediate gain (and then some). This time is different though and I am planning on losing 35 pounds over the next several months. I would love to have it off by mid-July but I know that will take a lot of work and effort.

I love food and love to cook big meals for me and my boyfriend, so a big part of this journey for me is going to be about incorporating healthy cooking habits and modifying some of my favorite recipes. He is totally on board and is really supportive, and we have already made some big changes together (like giving up much of our booze intake).

And I have lost six pounds already in the last three weeks! Go me!

Hi! I'm Meghan and I just turned 27 on the 18th (woot). I've been living with my boyfriend in Northern Virginia (just outside DC) since August and i've put on about 10 pounds. Given the fact that I was overweight to begin with, I had to get serious about tracking my nutrition, so I signed up! I work for a company that evaluates health promotion programs, so I see first hand what really helps individuals lose weight. Calories in, calories out, that's what it's all about and it seems like sparkpeople will definitely help me keep track of that!

I know this is about losing weight or getting healthy, but I want to encourage those newbies that are home schooling. While I did not home school my own children (just wasn't for me, not disciplined enough) my best friend home schooled all 3 of her girls and while I wasn't too sure in the beginning, I am the first to promote home schooling. She did a wonderful job and her girls are very well rounded and VERY intelligent. So while it is hard work, keep at it and try to see the big picture. emoticon

I am a single mother of a 4-1/2 year old boy. I am an emotional eater and gained quite a bit of weight when I was married. But in the past year I got motivated to lose 25lbs. Now I am motivated again but I wanted something I could stick with for life. SP does not seem like a diet in any way. You are in control which I like. It's good to 'meet' you all!

I've been married for 12 years to my dear husband, and we have five young kids which I currently homeschool. My days ARE full! Sometimes it's all I can do to pick myself up after doing the laundry, cleaning the house, making meals, going grocery shopping, teaching kids, fixing myself -- to getting myself onto that elliptical or on that trampoline or even outside for a walk. I've yet to find a period of time in the day where I can have it in stone that "this is when I exercise", "this is when I eat". Anyway, I'm moving forward here with SP hoping to have all this adjusted soon.

being overweight has taken 18 yrs of my life, I have lost weight TONS of times, never the right way, So here I am.. My name is Lorie I live in north central Ohio I have 4 kids 17/15/9/6 they are my motivation I want to live to be with them. I am 34 I have done quite a bit to screw up my past but now I live in the present so ADIOS past. my passion is football it is my release some people do not understand but I don't choose what your passion is, but I will always respect it. I HATE the word diet, I use it here and only 1 time to me DIET = Failure I do not deny myself of anything I am just cautious of what and how much I put in my body and what comes off now.
Now over the last few years my attitude has changed I have become very outspoken, I don't want people to sugar coat things about me or to me life is what it is, with the exception that it can always be better. so this is me, Life is good, and I look forward to getting to know all.

Brenda, Thanks for the sweet and uplifting words about your friends that have had the surgery! I don't believe I am doing this alone, I have total complete faith in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, my Support Group that I go to every 2nd Tuesday of the month, and now my online family...you all!! Wow looks like we have a varied group here. A friend recommended this site to another on Facebook and I thought what the heck, I've tried everything else.

I have a hundred pounds to lose. It may seem like a lot but I've decided to break it down in stages with the first being get below 200.

I'm a runner and a wanna be triathlete. The extra pounds I carry is hard on my knees. I also have high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Both are bad considering my family history of heart disease.

Despite recently turning 54, I still dream of running the Boston Marathon someday. I've run two already but it literally took me all day with the last one taking 7.5hours to finish. My friends and I joke that we are "Adult Onset Athletes". I didn't start running again until I was 40+. I love distance running.

I am married with 3 kids and 3 grandkids. One of my daughters and her daughter all run together. We are 3 generations of runners with the little one being 7 although she was 3 when she started...lol.

Hi all!

My name's Rebecca and I stumbled upon SP on accident and now am slightly obsessed. During college I managed to drop a good 20 pounds, but then gained it all back! I've been trying to shed it and maybe another 10 since. Now that I've graduated and am halfway through my first semester of grad school, I'm ready to step up and do it for real this time. Hopefully, this site will help. It's too easy to make excuses and slack off; I'm hoping that being held accountable by a website and you wonderful folks here will help.

hey everyone....I am a mom of 2 (4 & 1). I also work (full-time)from home with the kids around...so life is crazy. I am really trying to get back to my "before there was kids" weight! I have around 20 lbs (which I now is not alot, but to me it is a struggle! I am really motivated this time, and hope that SP will help me keep that way. I am also a lifetime WW member. I lost 40ish pounds before my first child was born...through eating right and exercise (ughhhhh) I will get back to my goal!

Sperrygrass, You are definately not alone. I know that raising three teens is an experience itself. I was there once with two sons and a daughter. It is hard to take time to keep track of calories and to find time to exercise, but we need to spend time on ourselves. By doing so, we are so much more valuable to our families. Positive self talk is very important. I have just learned that in the last year or so thanks to my wonderful husband. YOU CAN DO IT!

Hello,

I am a married mom of 3 teens. I have been here before but just wasn't ready or willing or something. I need to lose about 130 pounds.I keep thinking it's too hard, I don't need to track my food, I don't have time to exercise. Well obviously that doesn't work. I want to set small goals so I don't get discouraged. I know I can do this, but I do need help and support.

This time I am determined to stay and succeed. I need to get motivated and this is just the place. It's great to see all the new people and those who have come back. I'm so glad I'm not alone.

Hello everyone! Welcome to SparkPeople! Sorry I have not been online to greet you all personally as you begin your journey. I have been studying for the 3rd of 4 parts of the CPA exam which I took today. I have not done anything other than work and study all week - it's been crazy!

Anyway, as I catch up by reading all the great posts (so excited that everyone is chatty!) I'll tell you a bit about myself. I am married and have 3 teenage children and a dog. I work full-time as an auditor. I have been a member of SP for over a year. My weight has been up and down over the past year depending upon how much stress I have (I eat more when I'm stressed). I have managed to keep off more than 30 pounds over the past year though so it's all good!

Hi, my name is Victoria, I'm 26 and from NJ (originally from Poland). It has been a week for me on SP now, but I am still new to "online dieting". I think this website is wonderful, very user friendly, and I like the philosophy behind it. My goal is to lose 23 lbs for the start, so I am not overweight but inside my BMI. I've always had my weight going up and down, I think because I lived an irregular lifestyle, I did sports now and then but gained it all back the times I stopped. These days I've been living a very sedentary lifestyle, for the past two years because of other health problems. But my goals now are to really be aware of what I am eating, and get myself to the gym regularly. I would really like to live a healthier life, (hopefully quit smoking along the way) and look better, at the same time feel better about myself. What else, I like spending time online, reading, listening to music. Greetings to everyone!

Hi, I'm Cynthius, I had a false start a year ago, this is now the real thing. I've logged in all week.
I'm 50 and want my body back. It's been held hostage by slow heaviness that's not motivated to experience life to it's fullest. I'm a foster and adoptive parent, I'm a sculptor. I am Ellen, I am 45 years old and I have 40 pounds to lose. I have been eating "sensibly" and going to the gym every day. Greetings everyone.. I started back up with Spark on Monday, have stopped and started a couple times. This time I am the heaviest ever. When something comes into by life, this time daughter and 2 grandchildren returning home, I put myself on hold and deal with their issues. I have 100 lbs to lose and know that it will take some time. So even though I have been "Sparked" before. I see this time a beginning and so my reason for looking up this team. I have been living in mid Ohio for almost 5 years now, transplant from Minnesota. Live with hubby, almost 16 yr son, 26 yr old daughter and 2 grandchildren ages 6 and 2.5 and of course the dog. Looking for some good motivation. Best wishes to all who have started Spark !!!


Goal 1 - lose 10lbs a month for 6 months - done
Goal 2 - lose 7lbs a month for 6 months -
Goal 3 - complete a 5k before end of 2012 - done 10/7/12
