Welcome to the team!
It takes time. It's a lifestyle change and not a diet. You will find what works for you. There are alot of inspiring stories here and alot of tools and info. to help you make the right decisions for yourself. Just never give up! Things won't always go your way. If you make a commitment and stick with it, you will see results.
Building a healthy and well LIFESTYLE takes time. I doubt they will ever come up with a new reality show: Extreme Lifestyle Makeover! Because it takes zillions of little healthy decisions that we've learned to make over time, step-by-step. That's not a recipe for a best-selling book but it IS a recipe for what works!
And what works varies from person to person. Although there is a wonderful agency dedicated to study how it is that people who are successful in keeping their weight off and they publish information on it:

Don't die with your music still in you. -- Dr. Wayne Dyer
"We either make ourselves miserable or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same." --- Carlos Castaneda
"You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection." --- Buddha
I'm new to this. I mean, I'm new to SparkPeople, but also to the "slow and steady" thought. I have always have issues with my weight, with my whole self image actually. I have usually gone to diet pills, or 7 day flushes, or special diet plans.
If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result then I guess I have been insane (I know some would agree with that!!). It doesn't work, obviously, so, let's try something new. Every week I will add a little more, remove a food, add another, add another exercise or increase the time of an existing one.
Right now I'm guessing that's how "slow and steady" works, but, of course, I am very open to stories of what worked for you or suggestions on how to go about this new life that I am on.
