Thank you for taking the time to reply!

I will definitely consider your suggestions! And I've wanted to read "The Last Lecture" for a long time, I've just never gotten around to doing it! This is a great push to read it, thanks! Good luck on your own journey!

I find if I spend the money for something I do it. I spent money for 3 years at our gym, I sign up for races to do monthly. That keeps me moving. I am now working to get my eating under control, but I know that I am still getting healthier by doing all the physical activities. When I have it all figured out I'll get to see the pounds drop faster.

So find something you think you really want to do - go for a hike, do a race, go skiing, or whatever it may be that is physical, then sign up to do it. If you don't know where or who you can do it with there is a national web group called meetup.com and you could start there. Doing something outside of your comfort zone isn't easy (I stepped out this last week again - pretty scary) but it is so worth it.

If you want something to read to help get you motivated, read "The Last Lecture" by Gary Pausch, it's a lesson in how and why to live life and reach for your dreams.

wow, that's an amazing story!! One day, I hope that I can say that I've accomplished this much as well. I think that I have the enthusiasm to better myself, but I find it really hard to keep my optimism high when I don't see the results. How did you keep yourself motivated during your journey? Do you have any tips on how to keep yourself motivated?

Welcome to the team. It's good that you are looking at this as a lifestyle change. Focus on getting healthy. It's easy to want to compare ourselves to others, but that just sets us up for failures. You need to start seeing yourself as beautiful and confident with as much to offer the world as any "skinny" person. Don't wait to try new things based on your weight or what you think others are thinking. If I did that I wouldn't go to the gym and I certainly wouldn't have completed one full and 29 half marathons, to date. So get out there and start living your life and add to it healthy foods and physical activity.

Hey everybody!

I'm new to SparkPeople and I'm hoping to get into the habit of living a healthy lifestyle.
My current lifestyle is very sedentary and anti-social, and I'm hoping that I'll be able to change that all so I can begin to experience life fully! I have a checklist of things I want to do before I die and I think I can count the things I've already achieved on one hand only (my checklist is a lot longer than that!). I'm hoping that this site will help me to become a healthy and more positive person!

I want to lose weight so that I can wear beautiful clothes and not have to be jealous when I look at other people who can find clothes in their sizes so easily. I want my body to be able to be strong and flexible and able to handle whatever life throws at it. Hopefully, this site will help!
