My prayers are for those who celebrate Christmas who have lost loved one(s) this year and those still trying to recover from recent tragedy in the few days before this Christmas. I know that our focus needs to be on preparing ourselves for portion-control and prioritizing the making of good, healthy choices, but still...... Losing a loved one before and/or after a holiday just doesn't feel right and yet, our hearts know, those who have departed would be the first to say "Be happy, go forward with courage, make the best of the life you still have".

I can hear my Dad's repeative encouragements, they echo his memory through every day of my life since he passed on several years ago. He left us a few days after Thanksgiving and left all of us with a big empty hole in our lives.

As the years have passed and my Mother has joined him in Heaven, time has succeeded in wiping away all the bad and only the good memories and good times remain. I was so fortunate to have them both in my life. They were my guides and my mentors. And as Christ journeys with me each day as my closest friend, I envision them looking down from Heaven and being my most avid fans, my constant cheerleaders. And, at those times when most needed, when I am at my gloomiest, They rise up like giant eagles soaring overhead, protecting me, even from myself.

Mostly, they taught me to need people, to respect the fact that everyone wandering onto my life path has something to teach me, some message that God wants me to see in their lives, and more than anything, I must choose to be open to receive such personalized gifts.

Ought I feel anything other than abundantly blessed?

I am so over-flowing with joy that Jesus is my friend, unable to even think what life and my world would be without his Sweet, Sweet Presence. May His Light be ever in my life and in yours!

Hello, Friends! I'm so excited to find a Quaker SP group. I'm just starting to actually use SP, though I joined some time ago. I'm also working to live more fully in my faith this year, both through active membership in my local meetinghouse and through daily actions. I attend (though not as regularly as I should) Friends Meeting of Washington in Washington, DC.

Look forward to chatting with you all!
Best,
Monique

Hello

I am a convinced Quaker from Vancouver Island. We have a small worship group under the protection Vancouver Island Worship Group out of Victoria.

We are a member of CYM Canada Yearly Meeting.

I too was thrilled to find a group of Quakers trying to quake the weight off.

I guess the inner light although bright and glowing and there for all to see isn't hot enough to melt extra calories....

And if I am truly in tune with the testemonies of simplicity and integrity... where did this weight come from emoticon ?

blessings!

Hi all,

I'm relatively new to SparkPeople (joined 3/10), and had no idea that there might be a Quaker group until this very day, when I posted a blog entry that included a reference to my inner light.

What a lovely surprise this is.

I am a birthright Quaker who grew up in Philadelphia. I was educated in a Quaker school from 1st grade through graduation from high school. I went to college in Massachusetts at a non-Quaker college because I wanted to experience an environment that wasn't Quaker. I ended up marrying an Episcopalian (since divorced, and resigning from meeting when our first child was born. I ended up being baptised along with my son, and spent many years active in the Episcopal Church.

For the last 7 years, I have been inactive. I have been feeling a great pull from my roots but have also been afraid of rejection....

So I suppose I can be considered a fellow traveler (I hope not a renegade).

Hi,

There are a couple other members of this group who are still active on SparkPeople, but nobody is posting much in this group right now. The person who set the group up lost all the weight she wanted to lose and moved on. I check in pretty regularly, but I don't post a great deal anywhere either.

I'm currently seasoning a grouping of weight loss queries that I will post here somewhere. Maybe I should season them by posting them for consideration. . .

Overall, it's a pretty quiet group.
