I am so amazed...many of the issues you describe I have been dealing with, I have had so many "aha" moments lately.. to know that I am not the only one feeling this way...for so long I have felt like I was crazy because of the varying symptoms that seemed to change daily.

I think I will get some hand weights as well. I liked that suggestion..at least I can do some upper body exercise even if I can't get in the zumba, yoga ect...thanks for the welcome!

Welcome to the team! I think we always battle with keeping ourselves balanced. Too much activity or intensity will cause us more pain and too little physical activity causes stiffness and weight gain. I've personally experienced weeks of not being able to get out of my house. Hopping around on crutches due to heel pain and recurring bouts of achilles tendonitis put me in a tough spot. Then the inflammation would flare in my shoulders and neck.

Whenever I could, I would get on the floor and do modified push-ups and crunches. If that was too much, I had light weights in my bedroom to keep me doing some exercising. I still gained weight but I think it kept my spirits up! And boy do we need that! Now that we've found the right combination of meds for me, I have picked up where I left off. I have a plan for getting back to my goal weight again! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi,
I was just diagnosed about a month ago with atypical AS and was started on prednisone to manage my pain until a plan for a DMARD is finalized after lab work ect... I also started a weight loss plan using sparkpeople as I have gained weight due to inactivity over the last six months secondary to my pain issues (the prednisone is not helping much either in the weight gain department) My biggest challenge seems to be getting in the physical actvity as I have been having pain flares.. I hope this group can help support me and give me ideas on how to increase my activity.
