HI Everyone,
I was diagnosed in May. My lumpectomy is July 16th. I have researched, visited surgeons, a lovely radiology oncologist, talked to two breast cancer survivors, while working 40 plus hours a week. Trying to learn all that I can is exhausting. My family is great support as they learn along side me.
Do any of you attend breast cancer support group in person? I live 35 miles from Reno. It is hard to find time to do everything.
My mother and aunt had breast cancer survived but my old sister did not. I was impressed with the courage, passion, that they fought it.

I am an 8 month DCIS breast cancer survivor. I will have my first post surgery mammogram the end of June. I am trying to stay positive. I have a large ball of scar tissue but the onocologist says its okay. I am currently on Femara which has intensified my fibromyalgia. Mostly my hands hurt and my right arm tingles. I feel very fortunate that those are the only side effects so far. Now I need to get back to losing weight and getting in shape. I really want to survive and know that I have to do this to survive.

Hi, I am new to this group but not to cancer. I am a survivor of Lymphoma but not to breast cancer. This is my second bout with it. The first was dcis and now I am faced with invasive lobular carcinoma in situ. I feel nervous and afraid as I read and study the direction I need to take.
Has anyone faced it twice? emoticon

Hi there ladies, I am a diabetic 1 year BC survivor, IDCIS, double bi-lateral mastectomy 12/09, with completed reconstruction 09/10. Femara daily till 1/2014. Great 6 mos checkups, no complications. Take Mobic for joint pain. I figure taking off 50 -60 lbs will help me get off the Mobic and help the joint pain. Might not do much for the ole osteoarthritis however. I have a terrific medical team, and belong to a fabulous BC support group. I can't stress enough about finding a good support group you like and look forward to going to. If you don't have one, start one, just like SparkPeople, I consider this program a support group. Best of luck to us all.

Mind over matter. I mind being overweight and it does matter.

How did your appointment go, everything OK? I have 4 years to go before I get off the Femara. I have adjusted to the aches and pains and fatigue I have with the Femara. Doctors aren't too sympathetic about the aches and pains. emoticon

Hi 2BFITIN11

I'll be praying for a good report for your 6 month check-up on Tuesday. I just had my 6 month mammo and surgeon's appt last week and it went well. Are you on any of the 5 year meds they put you on after breast cancer like Arumidex ??sp or Femara? emoticon

I thank God for being in control of my life and know I can trust Him. Praise God!

Hi Connie,

Just wanted to let you know that if you are on medication for treatment for you Cancer - that maybe the cause for some of your weight problem.

I recently came off medication for my treatment of Breast Cancer - I believe it takes awhile to get out of your system - when back to normal, you should be able to get some weight off. I know it's hard, but just keep up the great work. You can do it.

Thanks Rite, I am still trying to figure out how to use sparkpeople. I've responded to and posted messages and they do not show up. Sorry. Thank you for your response. I am doing so well tracking my foods and starting to exercise every day. Friends on Sprarkpeople have really helped. Thanks

Congratulations on being a survivor. Trying to lose weight is stressful enough without have other things on your mind, but the motivation from SparkPeople is a great first step in the right direction. If you eat sensibly, use the food journal faithfully and follow one of the exercise routines, the weight may not come off immediately, but the inches will and then the weight will start to follow. I have not lost toward my goal weight, but I can tell the weight has shifted and I feel better knowing I am slowly but surely getting there. It is easy to get discouraged, but the friends you make here will always be there to lend support when needed.
We know you can do it !!
