I like veggie burgers and soy, but I don't like plain soy milk. I don't remember if I liked the vanilla soy milk since it's been so long since I tried it.

I don't think I would like soy burgers. I do eat meat but not like I used to.
I rather have my veggies. What is good about the veggies is I like most of them.

I agree! Soy milk makes me bloat something awful. emoticon Soy burgers/meatless hamburgers do the same but just not as bad. I do keep them on hand for days when we will be grilling out since I don't eat meat. I just make sure I'm close to home so I can have a BR near me. :)

On cereal, I don't notice a difference at all. It tastes a little different if you just pour it into a glass and drink it, but it's still tasty. It also comes in flavors, with vanilla added, for example. There is soy milk also, but soy sends me right to the BR, just like with normal milk.

I'm not sure why, exactly, but when I switched from normal milk to almond milk, I didn't have to run to the bathroom as much after eating it. I just get the little cartons of almond milk (sold usually over near the condensed milk or sometimes with the health foods). The one I buy is made by a company called Blue Diamond, and it has 60 calories per serving. I also like that I can keep some on hand when I need it, and then just chill it overnight before using it. It can sit in a cabinet here in my home for a long time before I use it and move it to the fridge.

I get my "results" right away. If I drink milk and it's on a day I can't handle it, then I'm in the bathroom in like a half hour. I drank some coffee this morning, and I was in the bathroon like 10 minutes later. It wasn't too bad. I'm good now. I'm going over to the in-laws later for the football game, so we'll see how I do there.

What I don't like about having IBS is that sometimes I can drink milk and it makes me run to the br, other times I am fine. I have problems with lettuce too. I love salad.

Has anyone had the problem that they go just a little bit every time that they use the bath room, then a day or two later is when it hits you?

I also have tried some of the Spark Recipes, they are easy to make and are very good. I don't have the cookbook yet but I am going to get it.

Enjoy your day. It is the last warm day here and then we will be getting very cold weather and snow.

The hard part is that it seems almost every where you eat is fast food. Seems some restaurants even use those frozen dinners for their meals. Alot of places don't do their own cooking anymore for lack of time. But in all honesty, it's not saviing them money either.
That being said, I try to cook at home more and make healthy meals with Chicken, fish, pork sometime, venison. There are many do-ahead recipes for us mom's who work, or also slowcooker/crock pot recipes are good too!
We all need to support eachother is this journey:) try some of the awesome spark recipes in the recipe column. I have and they are really good!

I used to do the pad thing, but I've forgotten since I've been through menopause and don't need pads for the normal reason.

I was on Lithium for a while (I'm bipolar/schizophrenic) and it was starting to destroy my kidneys. I was drinking and peeing out 6 liters of water a day (think 3 of those 2-liter soda bottles) and I had trouble making it to the bathroom on time, so I used the maxi pad trick for that. I had to take the bus and train to work, and so I made a routine that I could use so I didn't have an accident. I had to stop taking the lithium because it was making my kidneys work overtime. Now I have to worry every now and then about the other half. I don't get it too bad normally, but the past 4 months has been horrible. It's proabaly due to my increase of eating fast food. Now that we have a car, we go out to eat a lot, and it's almost always junk. I know I need to stop eating it, but I'm an addict. I need some sort of support for my addiction. I guess I should look for some sort of Spark Team for that as well.

That is a good idea. I did this too yesterday after having that urging feeling. Just in case is better than "OOPS too late" :)

Maybe this tip will help someone. Sometimes if I know I'll be out for a long time or I am not sure if I'll be able to get to a bathroom fast enough, I'll wear a maxi pad or two. This way, if I don't quite make it to a restroom and have a very small accident, I can toss away the pad and my clothing is still clean. Carrying extra pads in my purse meas I can place another to allow me to feel more safe when out and about.

I can go days sometimes weeks without a problem. Not today. I was in my Zumba class and I felt something move. I darted out to the bathroom. There was only a small spot on my underwear. I was relieved. I cleaned myself in the bathroom and get back to the class.

I'm trying out foods for my hike. I plan to hike the Appalachian Trail in March. I want to avoid D while walking if possible. I'll have wipes and extra underwear but I could do without the trouble. I found out so far that nuts are bad. Granola fine is it has raisin, but no or little nuts. I'm testing beef jerky right now. High protein/high fat type foods I can usually tolerate in small amount. I figure I should be fine if I don't eat more than an ounce at a time.

I figure it's better if I get D now than on the trail. As for the gym, I like that the Y has an indoor track so I can always get to the bathroom quickly. I had to stop running outside since often I would be more than a few minutes away from the house.

I'm the same way about not wanting to eat if I'm out. If I do stop to eat, it has to be the last thing we do, so I can go home to be close to a bathroom.

It's really hard if I'm taking a road trip. We usually make one 17 hour road trip each year (and then 17 hours to return home). We can't fly because we have an sweet old dog with too many health troubles to fly, or to be boarded if we wanted to leave him behind. So what is there to eat on the road when you have a long car trip? Well, fast food mainly, since it's easy to find off the freeway. And the only healthy things, usually, at fast food restaurants are salads. Unfortunately, lettuce is a big trigger for me, so I sometimes just avoid eating completely until I know we've stopped at a hotel for the night. I also have to take 4 immodium pills to be in the car like that for a long time. It's the only way I'll make it.

It's wonderful to have a supportive place to come and talk with others who are dealing with the same problems.

I remember one time I was cashing out at the grocery store and the urge came up. By the time I got to the rest room, well it was so embarrassing, i didn't make it.
I didn't go back to that store for a very long time!

Now if I know that I have to go anywhere I don't eat.

Yeah.... LOVE isn't the word I choose when I think of my ibs. lol!
But we can all relate to one anothers stories and it's just nice to hear and talk to others that understand.
Yesterday I was "kidnapped" by a friend who took me to breakfast and then to a really cute craft/country shop. Well I had coffee.....wrong choice, and a belgian waffle, should not have been a problem. we got tot he craft shop and walked a bit and I felt the "urge" :(
squeeeze with all your might.....I ask the owner if there was a bathroom I could use, she said "NO"....sorry:( there is a gas statiion down the road....so my friend, who does understand:) said we can go and come back:) Iam sooo glad we did....I really enjoyed my time at the craft shop after that :) I kept appologizing to my friend and she said...no problem I understand comepletely! So happy we can share our experiences.... I LOVE coffee and yes Iam going to drink it if I want to but I guess that's one of the biggest culprits :( OH yea, then today.....I get my monthly....whooohooo! what a weekend! :)
Happy Saturday all! make the best of it! Sue

Today I was grocery shopping, and after we left the store I got the need to "go" right away. By the time I got to the bathroom, though, it had passed. Geo (the hubby) took me to the movies one afternoon and I was cringing on every bump because the poop was pushing on my bladder. Not fun.

The slightest little thing can trigger my IBS--things that some people wouldn't even be bothered by. I was feeling on top of the world this morning, everything was going just how I had hoped. Then my husband said he had to participate in a conference call during our drive into the city, and I'd have to do the driving. Downtown driving with all of the traffic, skyscrapers, busses, taxis, one-way streets, etc, just frazzles me to no end. Well, hubby told me to take an exit, and it ended up being the wrong one, so I had to figure out how to get back onto the highway while dodging bikes and scooters and tourists and everything, and by the time I found my way back onto the highway, my stomach was cramping, I felt nauseous, and I just knew I'd have to find a bathroom as soon as we got where we were going. I was hoping and praying I wouldn't have an accident before I could get to a bathroom.

I sure wish none of us had to deal with this.

Sure! It's nice to have someone to commiserate with! I love walking and am hopeless on a treadmill, so I don't get as much exercise as I want. I am re-starting my strength training which I can do at home. I'm feeling a bit better, so I'm going for my longer walks. I have had trouble going to volunteer since I walk to work and would have to be in the bathroom half the time. I don't want to be seen as not dependable, but I can't help it.

Oh yeah, I know what you mean. I wish I could have a day where I didn't have to worry about finding a bathroom when away from home...a store, a restaurant, anywhere!

I know exactly what you are saying, this I can't poop.lol Sometimes it could be 2 weeks before I can go sometimes it's longer than a month.
I exercise at home so I can be near a bath room.
I hardly ever go out because I am so afraid of having an "accident"
I hear you about the weight loss. I have an under active thyroid and fibromyalgia that stops me from losing like I want to.
I think we could help each other. What do you think?

Don't you just love IBS? The cramps, the runs and the stops? Not knowing if you can go for your walk because you are having a bad day? Gotta love it!

Anyway, my name is Larissa/Diane and I've had IBS for years... it's not fun. I'm currently going for a long streak of problems. One month it was the runs, last month I couldn't poop, and off and on vomiting. I just need some support... it's hard keeping up with weight loss if you don't think you can exercise because you might need to use the bathroom and you're a mile away from home.
