Thank you to all with your nice welcomes.

I'm afraid to put this out there. But...
Hate to say it, I haven't started my "diet" yet. Hate that word - DIE-et.
... Haven't started my new life eating style yet.
The mountain seems so high and I don't seem to grasp the SparkPeople site too well. Perhaps it's old age, don't know. Perhaps it's another excuse. I go through it, get confused and just log off. ...There's so many places to go to.

The IBS has calmed down though - no more crystal lite candies for me! Also a new medication that helps a lot!

There seem to be many kind people at SparkPeople. Perhaps it's our empathy, we all know what each other has been through. ...or is going through.

Thank you again for the warm welcomes.

Crystal lite candies---sounds like it must have sucarose or something similar. Stay away from sugar-free candies. They will cause gas and a BM. A dietician friend said they use that as a gentle laxative for the elderly in a nursing home!

I drink hot peppermint tea. I agree that at this time of year, when it is hot, cold tea sounds refreshing. But I have only used the tea in hot water. It has never upset my stomach. I hope it works for you.

Linda, I've wondered about mint tea. I've read mixed. Some things say mint can upset your stomach while other things say it can help. Perhaps I will try the mint tea. Does it matter if it's hot or cold? Cold mint tea sounds very refreshing. A while ago I did buy an organic honey mint tea that was a cold drink. Very good, but too sweet, I don't remember it bothering me.
I recently bought Crystal Lite candies - they certainly triggered a reaction. Never having those again!
I do drink a lot of water every day anyhow.
Thank you.

I have not taken Belladonna. But I really do try to reduce my diet to very little food and occasionally peppermint tea and water for that day.

Thanks for writing. I've taken Belladonna for years (Belladonna is the generic brand for Donnatol) have never had any problems with it. It did help with my symptoms.
I was tested for diverticulitis fortunately I don't have it, also celiac fortunately don't have that either!
I get these flare ups and just have to eat very light, eat very little and very plain. Eventually it lightens up so I just need to be patient and wait it out.
Hah! I'm always thinking less is more - in a lot of areas!! Haha....
Take care!
Thanks again.
Beni

Well, I feel for you. My best for the worst of times was Paregoric, also taken off forever. My doc substituted Donnatol which has ( I believe ) belladonna. You are lucky NOT to have it. It made me so constipated as to be pain ridden. I will never take it again. These meds that slow down the gut are friendly OR the opposite. I only reach for it when I am desperate and can't leave the house. I've changed my perspective. I am still suffering seven plus days from my trying to quell spasms with diarrhea. The cure snowballed into pushing me to fever with diverticulitis because of the intestines "locking up." I always look to the old fashioned things that Grandmothers did and will continue until I cry "Uncle." Good luck and try to think, less is more. Phyllis

Well, I'm an IBS'r like many others. Has anyone heard... I went to the pharmacy the day before yesterday to get a Rx filled (Belladonna) and was told it was taken off the market. Called a couple of other places and they confirmed it. Anyone else have the same problem?
Can anyone share what they are taking that helps. The pharmacy has a call in to the doctor for a new Rx but he hasn't responded yet. In the meantime Pepto is my new drink of the day. Tums on the road and Gas X too. Unfortunately it's flare up time - ugh.
My mornings are generally the worse, have to start early when I have appointments because who knows what could happen but lately it's all day every day.
