I was diagnosed with IBS back in January. I have the same problem you do, that I can go weeks without going to the bathroom, and it hurts a lot. The one thing that has helped me is to take 2 Senekot (all Natural supplement) at bed time, by the next day I will have gone. Make sure you drink a glass of water with the pills. I have always had constipation ever since I had my son in 2000. Got worse with the second child in 2005. Think it has gone downhill ever since. Hope this helps. Good luck.

This is pretty gross, I know, but IBS lends itself to totally weird discussions about poo. All you can do is use your sense of humor and do what your doctor tells you to do. About water...IMHO everyone should be drinking tons of water, and you should check with your doc about it. But most people would agree that water keeps your bowels moistened so that you are not having painful movements. Water is good for everyone, but for us IBS sufferers, it prevents the stuff from turning into a hard-to-pass clay. And then there is the fiber issue...

Water and exercise will probably help. I have the opposite problem as you do. I have the D but occasionally will have C occur. When I do, I actually think that some of the yoga movements has helped me to get things moving.
Sometimes bananas will help me get things moving. For some people, bananas stop bowel movements. That is the problem with IBS. It is so different for everyone.
Good luck to you!! Let us know how you are doing with the new meds.

hey everyone!!! on friday I found out I have IBS with Constipation.. The Dr. I'm currently seeing gave me some sample pills of amitiza (24mcg)... He told me to take one a day and it should produce a movement within 24hrs.. I took one friday night about 8pm and it made my tummy kind of crampy and i was a bit gasy but saturday morning i only poo'd a little nothing like i thought would happen so saturday night I took another pill and still really havent had anything happen except i had a looser movement this afternoon just once... am I doing something wrong? i checked the pill pkdg and it isnt expired yet.. do i need to drink gallons and gallons of water for the pills to work?
