O.k. so is there ANYTHING that helps ahem, gas? I get so gassy after supper that I am afraid to go out. I am bad enough during the day but I work at home so it's o.k, but by evening it's terrible and I'm embarassed plus it's uncomfortable. I'm trying to eat slower, gave up pop, cabbage, broccoli, onions, yeast breads, etc. Too bad it's the wrong kind of gas for the car or I could fuel it all year.

Welcome to the team. I also have to eat a bland diet on many days. However, there are days that I can actually tolerate some others. I do not have diabetes however, my IBS can cause me terrible pain. Good luck with your journey.

Hi there

Welcome! You will find this site very helpful. I also have to eat a very bland diet so I know how confusing your food choices can be. I follow a low carb vs a low fat diet.
I would defintely watch the breads, especially the bagels as they are very high in carbs.

Some of the foods I can tolerate are oatmeal, eggs, turkey bacon, ground turkey, chicken and fish. I also eat alot of stir frys which include peppers, fresh mushrooms and red onion. I have to stay away from dairy and use almond breeze sugar free beverage on my oatmeal. I just recently gave up my stevia and use natural honey .... I also have a 1/4 c of Shelled Hemp Hearts everyday.

I also agree with others that posted... that you defintely have to seek out medical help in relation to your diabetics...

I wish you the best of luck. There is always something new to learn...so check this post daily!!!

PoohBear, there is another team, Managing Diabetes, that might be helpful for you. They might have a lot more ideas on what you can eat. Just make sure they KNOW what you cannot eat and why or they might question why you can't eat what they tell you to. You might have better luck than I do on different teams because they always ignore what I say is the reason I can't eat something or what the reason is that I ask a question, which is something I get no matter whether I am talking or writing.

The dieticians other places might know about the diabetes diets, but the ones at Denver Health don't. Ane they work right there where the endocrinology department is. I was advised to increase the amount of carbs I eat, even though I was not that low on them. Then increasing them got me in the craving mode and I have had trouble ever since.

PoohBear, Another thing I thought of that would be something to eat, but not a lot at a time, is nuts, depending on how ;your gut handles them. I can handle nuts and milk, but can't handle beans other than one kind.

Welcome to SparkPeople PoohBearVT! I hope you take time to put up a page so we can "visit" you. Are you from Vermont? Just guessing from your user name. I love Vermont, we vacationed there on our 25th anniversary. Anyway, just want to let you know I will pray for you, so glad you have faith in God too, He does help us so much. FANCYQTR has some good suggestions, raw vegetables, especially cabbage, broccoli, onions are really hard on me too. Milk doesn't bother me but I have tried the Almond milk before and it's good, especially in smoothies. Applesauce and pears work well for me. I have alternating IBS but am stuck in C right now with a terrible problem with gas and sometimes pain. I don't know about graham crackers and diabetes but I love them and seem o.k. with them. I'm not diabetic but my mom is and she gives me lots of diet tips.

FANCYQTR, I live 3 hrs from you. I'm surprised dieticians don't know more about diabetes, that's part of their job. I wonder if they know anything about IBS? The doctors sure don't seem to.

I agree with seeing a diabetic educator, but make sure they are qualified in diabetes education and not just a dietician (the ones here in Denver don't seem to know a thing about diabetes). Do you have D or C? I have D and have had papaya enzyme help me. Do all kinds of lettuce affect you? I have found that the leafier types (not the hearts) are okay most of the time and the easiest for me is spinach and romaine. I would stay away from the bagels (at least whole ones or thick ones) because they are really high carb. I have trouble with the whole grain breads, too, and the broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage family. I haven't ever tried the almond milk, but that might be something that would work if the carbs aren't too high. Or soy products if you aren't susceptible to cancer. Try different herbs/spices to get some of those bland things a little more flavor.

Thank you so much. I agree . I am an RN myself. I also trust God to guide me as it seems you do as well. I am new to Sparks just having joined last night. I am loking forward to getting acquainted with everyone.

I would find a good diabetic educator or nutritionist, Dietician, etc. My mom gets the best help from hers. I'm not sure of her exact title but she is an RN and specializes in diabetes. She is really great. Your problem is so hard to deal with I'm not sure any of us are qualified to help. Sorry. I really hope you get help soon!
