I have IBS with severe C and bloating. I had a colonoscopy last Tues. What ever the doctor told me to do to prep, I did twice. It cleaned me out. However, since then, I haven't even had the urge to "go". I take amiteza, which is a prescription laxative. (It hasn't been very helpful), and Miralax. I called the doctor today and her nurse said to take a capful of Miralax in the morning and at night. We shall see.....
I agree...trying to loose weight with IBS C is very difficult. Although very tempting... I would not take laxatives because you body will get too used to them. I have to constantly change things up...
Acupuncture defintely works for the bloating...but again it is only a temporary relief.
I have been feeling really miserable with the bloating over the last month or so.. last night I tried hot water with fresh squeezed lemon juice , fresh peppermint leaves and 1 tsp of sugar(I do low carb so I don't use sugar but....) it worked for me.

Maybe it's a little late to jump in here but after a 10 month bout of C and a doctor visit that didn't help much, I started taking a generic benefiber and found that to help some. I was eating 35 g of dietary fiber and 10 cups water daily with no results. It was hard to lose weight and feeling bloated all the time is terrible. This week I suddenly had one bout of D and have been cramping ever since which even kept me up last night. (no more stools yet so far) So I don't know what to eat now. I'm thinking the leftover halloween candy triggered this? I am not a coffee drinker. I've been drinking fennel tea today and have less stress which helped and then used my elliptical for 25 minutes. Hoping this pain goes away!

I second the coffee idea. Perhaps it's just me, but I only drink the one cup of decaf in the morning and I drink it for one reason only: It gets things started. I know I am in for a bout of C if there are no results immediately.
Also, I would not use laxatives. As someone else said, they can become a habit. I have used stool softeners, though, although rarely. Otherwise it can be very painful when the C decides to end.

I would try to stay away fromOTC laxatives if at all possible.
When I have this problem, which is common, I add 1T of aloe vera juice to my morning drink, OR 1T of liquid bentonite clay. Both seem to work equally well at making sure things move. And believe me they will move!
Make sure to add probiotics to your diet. For some they work better than others, but it is always good to make sure your system has plenty of good bacteria. Fiber such as ground flaxseed helps. It does not solve the problem for me, but it helps.
Coffee acts like a stimulant/irritant to the colon so most IBS sites usually suggest you stay away from it. With that said you've heard the expression "the coffee is kicking in" that's what it means.
I hope this helps. I'm sure there are lots in our group that can give you some other good suggestions.
I know that I have a hard time loosing weight but maybe because I am not active enough?! I try to drink lots of water and take 3 flax seed oil capsules a day to help with the constipation. I think your body can become dependent on the laxatives if you take them too often. I find that a hot cup of coffee or tea in the morning and not having to rush around to be somewhere lets me do my thing! I hope you try some of these out before relying on laxatives. Been there and done that!

Hi I'm Trish..new today! Does anyone know is it harder to lose weight if you're constipated? My digestion seems really slow and I can go for days without going for a p**p! Should i take mild laxatives ??
