From what I read, IBS is sometimes a catch-all phrase when the doctors don't have a definite answer. I have had my share thru the years and now mostly I watch out for diverticulitis which I recognize from the severe pain and sometimes fever. However, I must suggest to those who suffer recurrent problems that don't clear up, have a fecal test to see if you have a parasite or bacterial infection. You may need antibiotics. I know these have their side effects too, but hang in there. My IBS usually is the results of emotions more than food related. So, another suggestion is to learn to take '10' and learn to close your eyes and breathe deeply and slowly or visualize a calming place.
I was diagnosed yesterday after another 3 day stay in the hospital. It has been a two year struggle to get answers. Now I'm a little nervous about what this means going forward. I'm just trying to take it all in and learn all I can.
