Hi, 1GROVES2! You absolutely are a teacher! You work with kids and are critical to the students' and teacher's success! I didn't interpret "proteachers" as only certified teachers. I interpreted it as "in support of" teachers. :-). Good luck and hope to see you on the board often!

I guess I should introduce myself plus putting myself out there will keep me accountable! I'm a third grade teacher in Virginia. I was on spark people in 2008 and then fell off the site. I did lose 15 pounds back then, but this past year i stopped the good habits I had in place, particularly exercise. So I'm trying to track my eating and exercise habits better and I do better with a community! Looking forward to sharing ideas with fellow educators! I hope you all are enjoying your summer!

I was really disappointed when I found out the day after joining this team that it was on its way out....Yes lets get this team up and going again :)

I would love to introduce myself! I am a middle school science teacher and just recently was given 5th grade as well. So now I teach 5 - 8 grade and I am the only science teacher at my school. I also have a very energetic 2 year old. I spend so much time with my school children and then come home and spend what ever I have left with my son I feel like I have no time for myself! I am really hoping to take the time for myself and concentrate on my fitness and health so that I can be a positive role model for my son.

Hi....I hope you allow me on this team as I am not really a teacher....I am a Para. i work with students in grades 9-12. The classroom is called the Learning Center. The students have learning &/or behavior problems. The students I moniter and help take their classes on the computer. There is quite a variety of classes being taught at the same time and it can be a head ache! One good thing, only 8 computers are available, so i can never have more than 8 students at any given class period.

Welcome, everyone! I feel like I need to introduce myself, as well. I have been with Proteachers since its beginning but haven't been active in quite some time due to various life events. I'm returning to my position as co-leader and will try to serve to the best of my ability. Some things in my life are pretty stressful, but I think I need this team to deal with them if the last 3 months without it are any indication.

Anyway, I teach 5th/6th grade reading this year after teaching strictly English for the past 7 years. It's been a good move for this year, I know.

I am a third grade teacher in north Georgia. I have been teaching for 23 years. I love it, but it can be very stressful. I have two wonderful teenagers and a great, supportive boyfriend. (I have been divorced for 9 years) I have been trying to lose the same 50 pounds for 4 years. As I approach my 46th birthday, I've realized that I don't want my life to continue to revolve around my weight. It's time to lose it for good. I hope by joining this forum and can find the support and motivation to help me through those times that I want to give up because I'm not losing fast enough or because life has gotten too crazy. I look foward to getting to know the other members of this group!

When I was in my 40s I decided to ditch the accounting profession and get into teaching. I knew when I was still in high school that I was destined to be a teacher and I finally followed the dream. I am about to start my sixth year as a fifth-grade teacher and I've never regretted the change. I teach Language Arts, math, and religion and I love it.

I am married and have two kids. I joined Spark People in January but didn't stick with it very long. This time I am determined to successfully and permanently change my eating habits and lose some weight. I am committed to using all that the SP website has to offer to help me meet my goals. I am hoping to both give and receive encouragement and support as I travel down this road.

Hi! I'm a senior member on Proteacher, same username. But every time I log onto Proteacher lately, I end up with a very nasty computer virus. It really bums me out that I've had to let Proteacher go, since I've been on the site under various user names since 1999. Perhaps someone can let the mods know, since I'm not going on the site even to PM them, lol!

Anyway, imagine my delight when I saw you all on Sparkpeople! I love this site. I used to lose weight after my son was born, and I'm using it again to get rid of some pounds I added during some health problems last year.

Love you guys, and I can't wait to see what this team has to offer! Btw, I've been teaching since 1999. I've taught special ed, first grade, and fourth grade. I'm currently in first.

Hi! I am so glad to see a teacher's page! No one really knows what it is like to be a teacher unless you are in the school! I have taught for 12 years, 6 years at a 9th grade school and 6 years in a middle school. I have 2 tinys, 3 years and 9 months, and have very little time to take care of myself. What are your tips and tricks! Can't wait to hear how you all do it!

Hello, fellow teachers! My name is Donna and I have recently gotten back into SparkPeople. This is the first I joined this team though. I have been teaching for fifteen years, the last thirteen in middle school. I was a "non-traditional" college student and didn't get my teaching license until my late thirties; consequently, my usual joke is that I will never be able to retire!

I teach Home Economics, currently called Family & Consumer Sciences. Many schools in our area have already dropped this subject and now with the passage of SB5 (Ohio), I honestly don't know if I will have a job next year. My sister says that I was born a teacher, however, and that whatever my 'title' is, somehow I will be teaching someone!

We just had our Spring Break this past week, so I am feeling rested and ready to return and am determined to eat better for the remainder of the school year! I'm glad to have found this team and look forward to reading the other posts!

Hi there...new here! I am in my third year of teaching 4th grade math and language arts. This is my second career, after 12 years in social work and children's mental health. I love teaching!! My husband and I will celebrate 10 years of marriage this August and we have a fabulous 7-year-old daughter. I'm excited to be here and make some new teacher friends.

I am currently completing the 28-day bootcamp challenge, but have been a SP member for a couple of years. My goal is to lose 20 pounds, at a healthy rate in a safe and lasting fashion!

Hi, I'm Lisa and I am back on board with SparkPeople after 2 and 1/2 years of working full time and going to school full time to get my Elementary Ed degree. I am finishing my student teaching experience this month and will graduate right before Christmas so I'm ready to *finally* take care of me! I'm also a mother of two beautiful daughters and the wife of a very lucky man (just ask him, he'll agree! LOL) I'm ready to get a job and get healthy!

I can totally relate to your treadmill analogy. Every summer, I make a big push to get in shape and lose the 5-7 pounds I gain every school year. I always vow to keep my fitness routine going when school starts in Sept, but by December I lose momentum and I'm back to my bad habits. By spring, I've regained the 5-7 pounds (sometimes more) and start the cycle all over again in June. This year I found SparkPeople, and will commit to including my own needs in my "lesson plans". Also, my daughter is heading off to college in two weeks, so no more excuses! My goal is to keep my fitness plan going through the school year. If we teachers are fit and committed to a healthy lifestyle, we can be better role models for our students. And perhaps we'll have more stamina for the stresses of teaching! Good luck with your goals - let me know how you are progressing - we can support each other!

Welcome to the team, everyone! I feel like I should introduce myself again since I've been absent from SP forever and a day! For some reason, life as a mother and a teacher just doesn't leave much time for being online. Good luck as the new school year begins!

I teach 3rd Grade at a small catholic school in Wisconsin. This will be my fourth year of teaching. I am in my second year of graduate school and participating in a technology grant for the third year. It is going to be very challenging for me to manage all of these things and still find time for me once school starts again. I am excited to be a part of this team.

I was happy to find this free website and see teachers online. I teach 2nd grade and find once school starts I am on a fictional treadmill running to keep up, and I don't get off until summer. Unfortunately, about half way through the school year I am exhausted and begin my usual binging of chocolate to stay awake. This has helped me to put on a little blub that I want to take off. I am interested in hearing how other teachers find energy and strength to stay on a healthy diet through the school year.

Hi, everybody! I'm so excited to have found a group of people who understand the whirlwind world of life as a teacher and the balancing act of papers, grades, parents, discipline, and...taking care of ourselves.

My name's Shanna, and I teach Language Arts to a bunch of silly seventh graders in Florida. I'm just starting out in Spark People and am getting the hang of things. Looking forward to chatting with you all...summer is on its way!!! YAY!

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this team and am looking forward to the support from other teachers. For four years now I have struggled to maintain a regular routine with my exercise and eating because teaching is SO draining. I have spent this Spring Break week moving into a new home, but also setting up a good workout routine. I have also been doing really well with my portion control -- sure, my choices could be better, but I'm making sure to eat everything in moderation.
Hope we can all help each other... especially once the classes start rolling again tomorrow!

Welcome, Theresa! I am also a middle school language arts teacher. We have had some job insecurity this ear as well, in the form of involuntary transfers for 3-4 teachers, so I know how stressful that can be. I really wish you luck with your goals and please let me know if you have any questions!

Hey everyone!

I'm new to SP as of this past Monday, and so far I'm really impressed with all that the site has to offer. I'm a middle school language arts teacher who's faced with the possibility of being cut next year, along with 3-4 other possible teachers. I want to be healthier, mind, body, and soul. I want to eat better, work out regularly, and find manageable ways to deal with stress.

Join the bootcamp this month. I did. I haven't had as a dramatic weight loss as you. I was the skinny kid who could eat anything and never gained weight, but I hit 40 and my metabolism changed. I put on 40 pounds and suddenly I was the fat girl. Anyway, 2 yrs ago I started SparkPeople. I lost the weight and gave away my fat clothes. I put 10 lbs on this summer. I was so upset, but got over it and got real. You can do something NOW. I took it off but it happened again this Christmas. I am bootcamping it this month. Don't beat yourself up. I keep a couple of pieces one size above my regular size. No one is perfect. Just get it in gear now while you can. Go forward. Today you start.

Hi I am a high school teacher in Savannah Ga and I have been a member of Sparkpeople since Jan 08'. I have lost almost 40lbs but still need more. I am very active and exercise weekly. My biggest problem is finding time to do more cardio. I have to be at work very early - 7:30 and by the time I get home and help my own kids w/ homework and dinner - I am pooped - no time for me. I used to get up at 4:30 and hit the gym but this year I have lost that momentum. I have been running more on the weekends and some afternoons. Honestly - I'm tired and w/ budget cuts (my state has had furlough days) I just want to get paid my full salary - another story - I digress.

Hi! This site was mentioned at PT so here I am! I get so many good tips there! I teach 5th grade in a small town. Teaching exhausts and exhilarates me. About four years ago I started on a weigh loss plan that worked. I lost 70 pounds! For the last two years, I have kept myself about 10 pounds up from my lowest weight. In the last three months, I put on another 20 pounds. YIKES. I can't let this happen! I can't go back there (I gave away all my bigger sized clothes for one thing). I'm at the place where I have to buy new sized clothes or stop the out of control eating and wear the clothes in my closet that I already own - and love!

I feel good about joining this group. emoticon

Welcome! I think being a dork is a requirement for being a teacher. I mean who else would go in front of a bunch of pre-teens and teens and act silly on purpose? haha.

Hey, teachers! This sounds like a great team. I have only been a member of SP from 3 days so I am still in learning mode. I am currently teaching high school, but I have taught middle and elementary school, also. I am ready to get this healthy party started!( I'm also a bit of a dork!)

Hello! My name is Heather. I am 25 years old. I teach 3rd grade in Chicago! This is my first year at my new school...my 3rd year teaching!

I really want to get healthy so I am going to give spark a try! It is really easy to be gung-ho and on spark people everyday when we are not working...I know it will be more difficult once school starts up again but I am trying to be realistic right now with my schedule and make attainable goals for next week and the next few weeks!

Hope everyone is enjoying their break!

Greetings! I joined SP in October 2006 and have lost and regained the weight three times. My goal is to keep it off this time.

I live in NE NV and teach third grade. This year half of my 25 students are in the GT program. It's a challenging group. This is my 20th year of teaching.

I look forward to support and encouragement from others in the teaching profession.

Enjoy the remainder of your break!

Hello teachers! I think this is the team for me, no one understands how busy and hectic a day at school can be better than teachers. I am into my 2nd week at SP and have spent too many hours here...but it's time well spent. Week one weight loss 5lbs! I am so pleased. When I'm here I'm not getting my report cards done though! Oh well, perhaps I'll be more efficient when I do get at them. I'm in a new position this year...quite unique. I'm teaching in a rural community in Nova Scotia, it's a Primary/1/2/3 class. Yes, four grades, but only 12 students. I'd love to chat with anyone with experience similar to this. I've taught split grades before, but never 4 grades. It's a HUGE challenge and it's sent my blood pressure soaring. Thus, the weight loss panic... I knew I needed to lose, but this is a health issue. I'm loving the support on SP!

Goals without plans are called dreams. If you want to make your dreams come true...make a plan and follow through on it. You will be living your dreams.

Hello to all my fellow PTers. I am eduk8rsns0203 on Proteacher.net. I just recently moved to the Columbus, Georgia area and decided that if I was going to change my life (for the better) by a major move (from Wisconsin to Georgia) then I was going to change many aspects of my life, including my weight. I have been struggling with my weight since the birth of my 1st son and now my 2nd is 3 and I am 2 pounds away from what I weighed when I was 9 months pregnant. I am motivated to make the change as long as I can remember to log in everyday and track my nutrition and fitness. I am not working right now, so I have no excuse to not give it my all. I am looking for some buddies out there to help me stay motivated and I can motivate you.

Thanks,

You can try to walk for half of your lunch time or part of your break time. if you have stairs go up or down 2 at a time. Keep 1-2 pound weights at school and when time permits do a few arm exercises, especially bicep curls.

Welcome to the team! Sounds like a tough schedule! I have a 30-minute drive also, but I don't have to be there until 7:30. I'd suggest finding some small segments of time during the day...planning period, lunch, after school, etc...you really need your sleep! Good luck to you!

Hi Everyone! I just joined Spark people one week ago and I'm already seeing progress. I'm a theatre teacher in Raleigh, NC. I am super busy thru-out the school year b/c I have rehearsals afterschoool as well as all my regular school stuff. I have to be up at 5:15am in order to get to my school on time (we have to be here by 6:50 and I live 30 mins away). I always have the hardest time finding the energy and time to exercise, any tips?

Hi everyone. I'm Charlene (Char) and I just joined Spark. I teach 5th grade in San Francisco and we start school Aug. 20! Where did the summer go? I have lost and gained weight off and on for most of my 56 years, but this summer I made the decision that I would lose and keep the weight off. So far I have lost 11 lbs. and I have 24.5 lbs to go to reach my goal of 160 lbs. (I'm 6 ft. tall so I think that's low enough.) It's been pretty easy during summer vacation when I can get to the gym in the mornings for a workout. I'm a morning person, and the idea of going to the gym in the evenings after dealing with 30 lively 10 year olds all day is a bit daunting. I hope I can get the energy up to go at least 3 times a week.

It will be fun to have other teachers to chat with from time to time. We can encourage each other and share ideas. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you fellow teachers out there. emoticon

Hello everyone! My name is Ginny and I am 5th grade teacher at our middle school. I will soon be entering my 32nd year of teaching- where does the time go?
I started Spark in early July and have lost 15 pounds. I still have a way to go but it's a good start. My challenge will be keeping up the pace when school starts. I have been walking every morning, drinking water, watching/tracking food. I am not one to be super organized so I am most interested in reading how others have done it. I do know I won't be doing my doughnut shop runs!! 750 calories for a coffee cake muffin is toooooo much!! :)

Hello everyone. My name is Karen and I teach 5th grade here in Glen Burnie MD. I have found the best way to work out and have a life as a teacher is to get up early and get my workouts in. I'd love to hear how other juggle the struggles of being a teacher and finding time to keep or get into shape. I'd love some support so don't be shy.

When you get to the Proteachers team, stop here and introduce yourself. Tell us what you teach and for how long. Anything else you want to share would be great too! Also, if you found us by way of www.proteachers.org , share your PT name with us!
