Hi! My name is Felicia and I am from Dayton, Ohio. I love to swim! I remember when I was younger, I would swim everyday and I never got tired of it. Swimming do make me feel calm so it is the best medicine as ever! I do know how to swim like breaststroke, diving, backstroke, frog, and go under the water. I love the smelling of swimming pool and I don't understand why so don't ask me :D I also love to watch swimming games so I am planning to watch Synchronized Swimming in Jan at Ohio State which I am so excited about! As currently, I have not been gone swimming for long time because I could not find any in my hometown :(

Dear Settimia,

Welcome to the team.

I have posted several workout series in the bottom section on this fan page under workouts. Feel free to adjust them to fit your needs. I have created these workouts for intermediate level swimmers. You may have to adjust the set times to fit your ability.

Let me know if you have any questions. I am here to help.

Hi, I'm Debbie. Until now I identified more as a runner. Swimming was something I did "sometimes". I was on summer swim teams when I was a kid (ages 8-12) but didn't do it in high school or college other than recreationally.

I currently have achilles tendonitis and can only bike or swim for exercise. My ability to swim was limited by my access to pools and my schedule. But I recently looked into US Master Swimming and realized that I didn't have to choose a group near where I lived, I could choose a group near where I worked instead. So today was my first practice with Masters Swimming. My arms are killing me! :-)

Hello Spark Swimmers

I finally found this team...yay! I swim in the northern Pacific ocean almost everyday. My sister and I are now going out in wet/dry suits. We usually do about 2 hours out there and we also enjoy filming the ocean life. I am a wheel chair gal but I can still swim very fast arms only. It took quite some time to build my arms back up and I had to modify my strokes to be able to pull my arms out for free style...but I can do it now!

Hello!

I'm taking swimming lessons starting tonight. I took swimming lessons when I was a child but I never got the swing of doing the front crawl. Now I'm getting into running and I'd like to add swimming as cross-training because it's gentle on the joints.

I have an autoimmune disease that means I sometimes have arthritic joints. I love warm-water aqua-fit when my joints are hurting!

So tonight I start swimming lessons. I'll have 6 lessons in two weeks. Just a quick, short class. Should be enough to get me going.

If you don't like the road you're walking, start paving another one!

Welcome to the team.

1800 yds is a great start. keep it up. I love swimming because it's easy on my knees and hips unlike running on pavement.

Let me know if you need anything.

I am new to the team and am looking for others that enjoy swimming. I don't have any friends that still swim and I am always at the pool doing laps by myself. I am hoping to compete again this summer in an adult state games. I got 1800 in yesterday and hoping, if my kids aren't so sick, to go again tomorrow morning. I swam in high school, 20 years ago, and in college for a couple years before getting burnt out. This time I am doing it because I want to, no pressure!! I want my kids to see that you can set goals not matter what your age!

Hi,

My name is Shari. I was a big swimmer (then lifeguard and instructor) all through my childhood - right through college. Until I went out and got a "real" job. After that my lifestyle went slowly from active to sedentary. I recently had a physical with my doctor and while there were no real problems with my health, I finally heard that word I had been dreading...obese. Time to get up and do something. Swimming was an easy choice for me. It has been a while - but I am loving it.

Never apologize for who you are.

Hi Rachel,

Welcome to the team. If you go to the "workout section" I have started several threads regarding ways to get started and several workouts to get into "swimming shape."

If you want something specific, let me know.

A belated welcome to the team.

If you need anything, let me know. I coached/taught swimming for more than 20 years before I finally grew up and got a real job. Now I wish I could go back and coach again.

Are you still swimming?

Wow,

I wonder if anyone even reads these anymore. The latest post is Feb 2012, nearly a year ago.

I am a lifelong swimmer, swimming instructor and coach at both the beginner age group level and the master's level. I have coached age group, high school, college and master's. I recently returned to swimming as part of my over-all health program.

My goals include using swimming to improve my overall cardiovascular health by decreasing my Blood Pressure, lowering my resting pulse rate and increasing my blood oxygen.

Hi! I notice a lot of people here have been swimming a long time, that's great! I started swimming 2 years ago. When I started I wouldn't even put my face in the water :) I was instantly in love with swimming! I will probably never get on a treadmill again. It is an exercise I look forward too and every area of my wellness is impacted positively by it. I now swim a mile every time. I can do a nice freestyle, breast and backstroke, still working on the fly.

Recently I got a swimming MP3 player, it was really a game changer for me. I loaded it up with peppy music and I can tell the intensity of my workout has increased dramatically!

I look forward to a lifetime of swimming and improving my abilities. I'm happy to have found a forum of like-minded swim enthusiasts!

Hi there. emoticon

I'm an avid swimmer. I've been swimming since I was a little girl. I've been training with my swimming club since I was 3rd year high school. I'm currently in college. I swim 5 times a week, for at least 1 to 1.5 hours. Swimming is the most fulfilling sport for me. There is no other sport that invigorates me to lose weight.

Hi,
I love swimming; I swim at least twice a week for 1.5 and 1 hours and I love it! I try to push myself, but I only succeed with that sometimes.. I swim with a club, and I love the social side of it all - I love meeting new people and friends. I hope I can keep it up, as it's a good part to my life.

I am a swimmer who used to swim 3 or 4 times a week before August 2008. I had been swimming regularly for 13 years, recreationally - although I'd even took a couple private lessons (this is in midlife ...) ... the instructor'd had me swimming fly ...

Then, my schedule changed (have a very lengthy commute to work every day) I got very heavily into yoga and have practiced as much yoga as I could.

My schedule precludes my getting to a pool more than once in 10 days or so, even in the summer.

[My pool of choice is not located close to where I live. The pools closest to where I live are small, crowded, filthy and expensive–requiring a membership.]

I also do water toning (shallow water).

This team sounds right for me.

Hi there,

I'm Ruth and I really enjoy swimming so this looks like a good team to join. I used to swim competitively when I was younger but not anymore as I have a very hectic uni course to complete. I hope to swim more as it would help with my knee injury, I have a torn medial melliscus which limits my ability to exercise.

Anyway hello to all, pleased to meet you :)

Hi!
I'm Peter and swam competitively from pre-school age through college. I also played college water polo, and was a lifeguard from ages 16-23. I don't swim much now, because I calculate that, for the HS and college years, I spent as much time in the pool as I did sleeping (perhaps more). When I graduated, I stopped swimming and started heavy weightlifting (my college coach had been admonishing me throughout my senior year that "this is the swim team, no the Arnold Schwarzenegger club"). I was mainly a breaststroke/sprinter in HS but by the college program, I was large and inflexible, which improved my breast and fly tremendously but slowed my freestyle down. Ended up doing buttterfly instead of freestyle as a second event, and sometimes IM's, although my backstroke was always painful to watch.
These days I do semi-serious weightlifting, and have taken up fencing (I actually look a bit weird for a fencer, not being lanky and skinny, but only 5'10" and built). I joined Masters swimming because I'd like to compete in some meets. I'm not ready to commit to practicing yet, though...too many bad memories of standing outside the pool at 4:45 in the morning waiting for the coach to unlock the doors for 5:00 practice.
Anyway, hello everyone!

Hi Fellow Swimming Fans; I am new here. I was a competitive swimmer at age 13 years and I enjoyed competing; I go by PilotsGirl1 since I am the GF of a Navy pilot (he is unofficial as we have yet to meet); he is with the Blue Angels. I look forward to getting in the pool this Summer I am going to make it a habit of going in for my laps in the morning because of the kids they like to get in my way when I do my laps and their parents don't do anything so I just decided to get my swim in in the morning early like after I eat and it works for me. emoticon

Hi guys! So a group of swimmers, huh? I'm a former swimmer... swam from the time I was 3 until I graduated from college. After all those morning practices I needed a break. I took 5 years off, though I've been around the pool every day (I currently coach for a year round USA Swimming team). I got back in the pool to train a few weeks ago for the first time. It was a little rough! While I do get in with my swimmers from time to time to help them with their strokes, I havn't done a workout. I was a little disappointed with the intervals I was doing, but then thought about those 5 years. I'm trying to train for Big Shoulders in September... we'll see. Anyway, it's good to see a group of swimmers or former swimmers!!!

Hi Everyone,
My name is Julia and I am a relative newcomer to swimming, but that doesn't mean that I am not serious! I learned to swim breaststroke as a child (with my head up ;-p),the freestyle 3 years ago, and backstroke and fly just last year, when I joined a master's team. My strokes are getting better (my breast stroke is properly done now), and I love swimming! Eventually I would like to compete in Masters events.
I joined this team because I like to talk to other swimmers and read about everything swimming!
Beside swimming I also run and strength train

Brian Reeves...please send messages and questions. I would enjoy writing about swimming. I swim with the Nasti Grin Masters. Our home pool is the wonderful Forest Park Aquatic Center. Join us if you are in the Central Indiana area. I prefer open water swimming. Chicago Big Shoulders 5k has become the event I complete each year.

Anyway, just finished doing 50 lengths in just over half an hour and have remembered how much i love swimming. Oh, I guess I forgot one thing. I am a fan, but I am probably really a fanatic!!! when it comes to swimming. I started racing when I was 11. I coached some swimming (8 and unders and masters). I coached springboard diving. I was an official when my boys swam (including paid referee/starter/etc for high school meets) I've let all my ratings (WSI, Officiating) drop by the wayside, but when I retire........

Hi everyone, My name is Carol Yunker. I am a swimmer and lead the Swimmers team and am a member of Swimming for Cardio team as well. Trying to be well informed, I joined here as well because the more input I have the better when it comes to swimming. Visit my SparkPage to see my results from the YMCA Masters National Championships (SCY). Check out the other teams to see if there is good info for you there as well. I am happy to find this team here too and hope to cross-pollinate all these teams about and for swimmers!

Hello my name is Laron Strong. I'm 24 years of age and i currently live in New Jersey. I joined this team b/c I was a swimmer in High School. Unfortunately that was a long time ago and I plan to incorporate swimming in my workout routine. I'm very open to any good advice on swimming and other fun exercises in the pool. emoticon

Hi Anna! Its really nice to meet you! I know what you mean about trying to get back into it! The Olympics have really inspired me to get back into the pool. It just about finding the time to do it now that I have a baby! :P

Hi I'm anna. I love swimming. I swam for 11 years. All the way up till my Junior year in college. I would love to get back into it. Right now I really would like to work up to competing in a sprint triathlon, as well as just getting more physically fit.

Hi everyone! My name is Jessica, I am 21 years old and am trying to loose the baby weight. I was a swimmer for 7 years, and got out of it after I graduated High School...Trying to get back in the groove of things!
