Hi! My name is Vicky and my dog is a beagle/lab mix named Sarah. I was a member of "Dog Walkers Unite" on the weight watchers site with my previous dog(Bailey). She died in July from cancer at 2&1/2 years old.It brings back too many sad memories to go to the other group. I'm glad I found this one :) In December we got Sarah. She is a two year old rescue dog from an animal hoarding situation.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and brand new to Spark. Despite my username, I actually have SIX dogs, and have had as many as seven in the house at once. I dabble in rescue, rehoming those that I can find good homes for, and keeping those that are less adoptable.
I have three older dogs - one sheltie (Ferguson), one sheltie-mix (Murray), one hound mix (Dot)
A middle aged blind dachshund (Hildegard)
A "potcake" from the Caribbean island of Grand Turk (for info on potcakes see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potcake_dog)
And lastly, one little chichi-like mutt, Monkey.

I need to figure out how to add pictures of them...

Hi I'm April and my lil man is Peanut. Peanut is a 1 year old Chihuahua, my husband and I saved Peanut from the home where he was beaten 6 months ago and he is my son and is treated as such. He has his own chair at the table and has my heart completely. I have always been a dog lover, I raised 14 beagles and have one tattooed on my back, I had just lost 3 Saint Bernards(who where my life) after 13 1/2 years with them before I was blessed with Peanut.

My name is Mako and I lost my doggy soul mate, Jozee a Boxer/Lab mix (we called her a Boxador), January 27th 2012. (She died two days before her 12th birthday.) She was a therapy dog in my classroom since the age of 8 weeks. The entire school loved her and still miss her. She was so loved that when she had to have her spleen removed in 2009, the school had a fundraiser and paid the entire vet bill. They also collected money for a personalized memorial garden bench in our school butterfly garden. She was my heart!

Jozee also was a reading therapy dog, where kids improved their fluency by reading to dogs, she visited people in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and special need day cares. She was that once in a lifetime dog and I know I'll never have another like her.

My son got a puppy as an early Christmas present in 2011. He is now my classroom therapy dog and although he is a sweet boy, the paw prints left by Jozee are huge! Kepi is a Miniature Labradoodle and so cute! He has his CGC and therapy dog certification. I entered him in the AKC Canine Partners program where he has his CGC and therapy dog title. I'm hoping to try tracking with him.

I volunteer and am a therapy dog trainer for a therapy dog organization. I've been a member since 2004. I really enjoy it! At one time all four of my kids were certified therapy dog handlers with our little terrier mix, Mia. It was fun, but now they are all getting older and busier with activities.

I should mention that all of our dogs are rescues from the local humane society. I used to work there in the summers doing humane education for a kids' camp.

Well, this is long enough and it gives you an idea of who we are.

Hello all. My name is Kellie and I am owned by a 7-year-old, 70-pound yellow lab named Riley. She was part of the package deal when I married my husband six years ago.

In my first marriage we had a dachshund , small, very little shedding. Then I was on my own, no pets, for seven years. So Riley was an adjustment for me! But now she has my heart! Can't imagine life without her.

Welcome JADASMOM! I was owned by a black lab/german shepard mix, his name was Alexander the Great. Alex for short. He passed away in 2006-7 via lymph cancer, at a very young 5 years old. So I rememebr well how dear that breed is to you.

I'm 66 yrs. old & just crazy about Labradors.
I like to play hidden object games.
I'm a diabetic.

I have a 22 month old female black Labrador named Jada. I got her when she was 8 months old through a rescue group. The family that owned her had just moved to NJ from Florida. When they got to NJ they found that they were not going to be able to keep her, so she was listed as a courtesy & that's how I found her. I actually wanted a yellow male, but that's okay. She's my first female. She's crazy but I wouldn't trade her for the world. She's my 4th Lab, so I'm pretty familiar with the breed which worked in my favor. She has a lot of energy! Because of some health issues right now (& no car) I'm unable to exercise her as much as I should, but my health is improving. I also hope to get another car & then I can take her to the dog park. I have a friend who has a female Rottweiler 2 weeks younger than Jada & they love to play together. We did that regularly until my car died on me in the fall. I should mention that I got her in January 2012. Anyway, I was able to get her in 1 class. Boy! Are obedience classes expensive these days! I do have an advantage though; I've trained before. 2 of my dogs earned their Companion Dog Titles. So I'm somewhat experienced.



When I figure out how to download pictures from my phone & new camera, I will post them.

I am Lorene, my little darling is a 1 year old Yorkie named Tinkerbell. We rescued her about 6 months ago. She has truly been a joy to have in my life. I swore after my little poodle Cricket passed away at 18, I would not get another pet. Well, you can tell how that worked out. Looking forward to meeting everyone and sharing pet stories.

Welcome other newbie’s! And hello to everyone else…

I am an old-timer to Spark People, just returning from a necessary sabbatical. I missed the interaction with others as I work from home. I am retired from corporate America and don’t miss the hour long commute (one-way), and at times, in hazardous weather conditions. No more deadlines, politicking, or one-sided diplomacy. *LOL* I live on 10 acres in southwestern Michigan, so can classify myself as a Gentlewoman Farmer; nuts and fruits mostly.

My Toy Fox Terriers, Finn and Echo love running and romping and scouting the acreage without being tethered. However, they despise winter and anything close to cool – and definitely not frigid! *LOL*. Like their Mom. So no walking during the wintery season, but when spring arrives there is no stopping them from escaping through any open door.

My precious canine children kept me sane during my hideous perimenopause years; giving me strength to remain smoke free, calming when hormone depression reared high and a reason to get out of bed every day. As my last child prepares to leave the nest, they have made my transition to empty nest much easier too.

They also encourage me to workout. Echo likes to lay her neck across my mouth while I perform floor exercises. Makes it bit hard to breath sometimes. Once I finish my workout both dogs are happy to “see” me; although I pretend they are cheering my workout success.

I am also owned by two cats, Snickers (20 yo) and Leo (8 yo), and then three finches, Lumi, Fumi and Gloomy. I have been owned by a black Labrador, Alexander the Great, and a Scottish terrier, Bennigan; all who have since passed but always remembered. I still carry an internet moniker, “Scottieluvr” and have a personal web site too. In fact my computer room is decorated in Scottie Dog stuff. Finn and Echo have a web site as well.

I was never heavy until I was in my 40's and started on medication that made me gain weight. Even though I've been off that medicine for almost 10 years I haven't managed to lose the weight. But it is time to get into the best shape possible. Even if I don't get to "ideal" body weight, I want to have energy and be active.
I've always had pets in my life. Right now, my husband and I have 2 dogs, Grover and Lillie, and 3 cats, Rani, Freddy, and Willow. I lost my last dog, Nano, last month. He was 17 and had had a rough life before I got him, and because of health wasn't able to go for walks for the last year.
Now I have Lillie, who is a champion walker and should help me reach 15 minutes a day and more!

My name is Deborah, aka, Ponyfarmer. Until recently, I had 2 dogs, 2 cats, 5 horses (though some were Mini's, so two of those could count as one). I am a high school teacher and I live on a 26 acre horse ranch. Puddles and I walk everyday, usually 2-3 times. My dogs have saved my life and have helped me to lose th 70+ pounds. Thanks for the invite- Was looking for a dog friendly site, I have a hybrid shepherd Sarg and a 6mt old Shepherd mix D-O-Gee - Am training D-O-G for a service dog for my husband. we are starting our 2nd training session next week. and lots of playtime & exercise to get rid of the puppy energy. Started clicker training, and its a life saver trying to get a pup in the door. one click and a treat and he in. will check back

Thank you Bescats. I just joined the team goal today. playing with my dog 15 min yes I can do it. But walking 2 miles/ day I don't want to join yet because lately it's difficult to have a long walk due to rain and windy. If the weather is nice 2 miles is no problem. I usually walk my dog in the morning and my husband take his turn in the evening. Weekend I usually do morning and evening walk. My Maltese babe , "Malibu" is very healthy, happy and strong.

She is a small dog but she can walk for an hour (I give her a break 5 min after 20-30 min walk.
I also gave her a coconut for a treat too. It's great for human and dog :)

I'm glad to join this club. I'm a personal trainer & nutrition coach. I live with my husband, a babe maltese (8 yrs 9 months old) in Bay area California. Our 3 daughters do not live with us anymore since they attend the college , 2 daughter at UCLA and another lovely girl study at UC Berkeley.

I was a chubby girl in 2002. I started to track my food in 2006 with spark. I lose 20 pounds in 100 days.

Hi I"m Katie. I've been with spark for a couple of weeks now and lovin it! I was so excited about this group. I love my dog!! I am 43 and live in NY state. I have lost on my own a little over 100lbs. I have about 25 stubborn ones left. But I'll get there! Looking forward to making friends!

Hi! I'm Pattie (puppywhispers) and I live in Upstate New York, near the Adirondack Park, with my hubby of 25 years and our pup Jasper.

I enjoy walking and running, as well as photography, drawing, gardening and reading. Of course, I love dogs!

Jasper is a rescue from a local no-kill shelter; he is originally from Georgia. We adopted him in February 2011, when he was only 12 weeks old. Jasper earned his AKC STAR Puppy title, and I've been thinking of taking him for his Canine Good Citizen certification.

Hi. My name is Liz. I live in Metro Portland, OR area. This area is just great for dogs. There are great off leash areas for dogs. In my little town, Scappoose we have a wonderful off leash area.

I can go on and on about the dogs that have been in my life. But, you really don't want to read for the next couple of days, LOL!

So, Cookie the Dog and I are housemates. She is a mini shar pei. She was a puppy mill mama before I rescued her. She is the most friendly pei I have ever had in the family. She really has some anxiety issues but we get through them.

My name is jane, I had an old bloodhound amos who recently passed and a beagle named radar.. I am adopting another bloodhound she is 4 weeks old and will be picking her the week before halloween when she is 8 weeks. I have not been this excited for a long time. I really miss my amos something about a blood hound you even love them like crazy drool and all or you don't. I also have two horses and have 3 grown daughters and am a nurse and work for the rescue squad.

We have two schnauzers Rez and Daisy, that are spoiled rotten as they say! They give us alot of enjoyable moments ( and a few not so enjoyable LOL) Our male is a great mouser, and the female is so afraid of thunder and lightening. She is 6 months younger than the male. We were going to raise schnauzer puppies, but found out real early that our little female cound not have puppies for some reason vet said she would of had a real hard time, so had to get them both fixed, that was 7 yrs ago now. But in the past we did raise AKC german shepherds for a coulpe years, And we had a bedlington terrier adopt us, someone dumped him at our house before he was a full year old, and we ended up having this cute sweet little guy for 16 years!

Hi every one! I live in East Petersburg Pa with my husband and 2 boxers well one's a boxers something not sure what. I've been a member since April and I'm having a hard time with it. Hi, I'm Donna from Montana and I have an Irish setter and a 3-legged golden retriever so I guess I have 2 3/4 dogs and I have on cat. Sometimes the cat, Pinky, takes a walk with us but then we have to walk very slooooow.. I take the dogs out every morning for a 2 miles and I either walk or ride my bike. When I ride my bike I have to go slow so my 3-legged boy can keep up. We live in the Southwestern part of Montana, 30 miles from Butte and 60 miles from Bozeman. It's very beautiful here but this last month the smoke from all the fires in the West piles up in our valley. We don't get much snow or rain here and winters are mild. It's a pretty cold windy day that I don't take the dogs out and that has really helped me. Besides, like Cesar Milan says, "Be the pack leader and exercise your dogs every day!"

Good Morning, My name is Carrie and I am from New Jersey, I have a 9 month old Terrier mix who is a big boy 70 lbs and growing !! He brings us so much joy and keeps us laughing !
