Quitting smoking is huge! That's not a baby step, that's a leap forward!

Hi Helen. As long as we keep making one more step forward than we do backwards, we're making progress.
One big step forward for me was quitting smoking after 40 years in January. Funny how a quadruple bypass will get your attention. Thank You to everybody who responded to my intoduction. You are all helping inspire me.

Two steps backwards...three steps forward. You can do it!

Welcome Alan. You have really been through a lot in a short time! I hope we can be a support for you as you work toward becoming healthier. Your story encourages me!

Also, MAZDAWD50, I agree with Michelle about your goals. I am going to try to do that as well.

How about this ~ I have been inspired and encouraged by two people in our team within just a few minutes!emoticon

Thanks Michelle,

Goals are new to me - or I should say writing them down. When they are just in the mind, it is easy to tuck them away in a corner and pretend you don't see them - but when you write them down and post them in front of you they are hard to ignore. That is one thing I have learned from SparkPeople.

MAZDAWD50,
I may have told you before, but I love the goals you list at the end of your posts. They're awesome.

Welcome to the team. It is a good place to be. You have had quite an eventful year. I have found SparkPeople very helpful - extremely helpful - since my surgery in August. I found it on a fluke, but am sure glad that I did. For me, all the tracking and the tools they provide keep me going in the right direction. One thing I have learned is baby steps. A little bit here and there adds up to a whole lot of something good. Hope you find a home here.

I've been reading the posts and they all sound familiar. I'm still morbidly obese, but working on it. I've gone from about 375 down to 315. I had my 3rd heart attack in Jan 2009 and was treated to a quadruple bypass. Got out of the hospital in about 7 days and felt great & had great attitude. 3 weeks later, i woke up with chest pain and had trouble breathing. Back to the hospital where I was diagnosed with MRSA, blood infection, prostrate infection, several UTI's, pnuemonia, and water on my lungs. Finally got out of a LTAC the first of April, but all infections were gone and had completd my cardio rehab. Things were going good, but didn't get much exercise due to the heat. I know, an excuse. In September, I had my 4th heart attack and congestive heart failure. One of my new bypasses had become 100% ocluded. Just finished nuclear stress test and didn't pass. I'm exercising 10 - 15 minutes a day now, and have made commitment to myself to give spark people an honest effort. I'm currently undergoing EECP treatments which seems to be helping. Glad to find this team & I will stop writing about me. Good luck to everyone on this team & I'm looking forward to meeting you. Thanks for being here...Alanemoticon
