I agree with MsFixit. Looking over all expenses from a month is necessary so that you can "plug up" any gaps where money is leaking out. If you want to be really detailed, you can ask for a record of coins and cash spent as well.
I did that for myself some years ago and was appalled at how much money I was putting in vending machines every day. I started bringing liter bottles of soda to work in order to stop using the machines. Now, I don't drink soda at all; I make a large container of iced tea to drink while I'm at work. It's healthier and a LOT cheaper!
Be forewarned, keeping track of all expenditures is tedious; but in the end, it's extremely rewarding.
