Your dogs sound like angels to me. I often wonder why they choose us and love us so much. We are very blessed by our fur babies.

K...fast forward to 2013... emoticon Hi emoticon My name is Linsey. And, like my name says, I love dogs. I have been on SP for almost 3 years now. I had reached my goal weight at one point, but have since gained some back. I've just reset my goals again...and getting back into a pattern of being more disciplined. There is always pop in our house, as DH has his own bad habit to deal with. I do better when I track my calories and keep myself away from the pop, too. I have a sweet tooth. I used to bake all the time when my kids were both at home. I don't so much, anymore....as it is far too tempting. We do have one at home with us at the moment, so the habits change a bit when someone is here. We are better at keeping to a pattern when it's just the 2 of us. I won't go on and on about my dog in this posting. Altho, will say that we had a Pointer who grew up with our children and lived 16 yrs. She was a sweet family dog & lots of energy for hyper kids. LOL. Altho, we hadn't planned on another dog for awhile, the opportunity presented itself with a phone call about a rescue. She needed a home and I went to meet her...was going to make my judgment of yay or nay as to how the pup reacted to me/us. DD went with. We both sat on the floor with arms spread. Pup walked directly into my arms. emoticon Pup walked directly into DD arms after greeting me. emoticon Took pup home for a few hours (just as a trial run to meet the rest of the family). Pup went directly into DS arms and showed him her belly right away. emoticon She is our love-bug and truly has helped in healing our broken hearts from missing our Sally. DH dubbed her "heavens to Betsy"...and we've called her Betsy Lou ever since. She is like Sally's "mini me" altho she is a mixed breed and has no Pointer in her at all. DH wanted the DNA done, and we learned she is a Lab mix. She is 50% Lab MIX and 50% Miniature Poodle MIX. DS says she's "a hillbillies attempt at a Labradoodle." Cuz, note to all back yard breeders....if you want a Labradoodle, you can't use mixed breeds to get one. emoticon Betsy is our sweetheart. Oops! I said I wasn't going to talk on and on about the pups & here I did! emoticon

Wasn't this the 2011 thread???? Actually, I am not worried, i can post anywhere quite happily.

No electricity is probably a good reason to get a back up battery for the cpap. Although I always figured, I would just sleep in the recliner if that happened, so my head is more elevated.

It sounds if a lot of people and animals are anxious now. I wonder if it has to do with a psychic unease over the 2012 thing, or if it is like the phases of the moon. The aligning of the stars is making some of us at unease. I really don't think any disaster is going to happen, but I do think there will be some planetary influences. We shall see.

We are Geminis. Bright sparkly with dual personalities or in my case multiple personalities. There are all these voices in my head guiding and arguing with me. Usually they are right, so I have learned to listen. LOL.

Hi Mutt Lovers! I wanted to read all I have missed, but my computer is acting wonky again. It worked beautifully the first 2 days home from the shop, but now it is back to making life difficult! I'm pretty sure it is on its last leg. It had no viruses or anything like that, just a slow hard drive. I don't like change when it comes to my computer. But, with a new one I'll need a whole new operating system and version of MS Word. The idea of all I will ahve to learn just puts me in a near panic!

I'll try to read all your posts and respond later!

Jack seems to be back to sleeping all night again. His quirks are getting bothersome these days. I don't know why his anxiety levels are higher and he acts so weird sometimes. I guess it could be that he still hasn't recovered from all the workers being in and out for that period of time as we built the sunroom and had the main parts of the house painted.

I do hope all is well with all of you! I'm back to work already and my class is a good class. They like to discuss and I like that!

I'm headed out to the pool! It is hot and sunny here finally! I'm ready to get in and move! Keep those mutts hydrated if it is hot where you are! Give 'em all a good scratch from Auntie Melissa!

Hi Group -- Been busy with my volunteer projects the last couple of days. Did a Roscoe Reading Group party yesterday for over 300 children who read lots of books at their elementary school. They get rewarded with free books, bowls of ice cream with doggy bone sprinkles, and being able to pet a rescue dog. Yesterday's dog was a big, old yellow lab. who had arthritis and skin problems -- it was a patient doggy and the children enjoyed the company. Today I went back to the free health clinic to put in some hours. We have a new doctor, new helpers, and a few new patients. It was a co-workers' birthday. My birthday was on Friday -- mostly it was ignored because we just got home and our kids were busy with their week-end activities. The grandchildren in Florida called and sang the birthday song to me. Hot here today -- up to 90 degrees. Our electricity went out last night about midnight. I woke up because my sleeping machine wasn't working and my room air humidifier was off. It came back on around 1:30 a.m. Finally got a few hours of sleep. One of our outside kitties is back, but the other one has found a new home -- I am very sad because it was a sweet little boy kitty. He was our neighbors' cat to start with, but they neglected him. Hopefully he has chosen a nice family to live with and they adore him as much as I did. The feral cat that I rescued 3 years ago wouldn't let him come indoors, so he lived in the garage and our yard. Well, better go catch up with my house work (my resident DH doesn't do women's chores). Happy birthday to all those Taurus people and whatever the next group is (sorry, I forget the sequence of the zodiac signs). Not time yet to set up the June Morning Coffee Cafe -- have a few more days of May to get through!

All my pets broke out under flea collars, so I quit using them in the 1980s. I use bio spot about 3 to 4 times a year. In between I use tea tree oil, or something w/ eucalyptus in it. I have ofter thought hair spray would keep the bugs away too.

I wouldn't use anything, but this tick bite has created some lasting health problems. I don't want that for the dogs.

Hi Group -- Sun is shining for the moment -- it rained in Redding, CA most of yesterday. We have been here when it was 118 degrees. It is warm in South Carolina and Southern Nevada. We will be heading back to Nevada tomorrow. It has been nice seeing family members and old friends. We are getting weary of traveling, however, and will be happy to be home. I want to get back to our yard and see how the plants are doing and maybe do a little vegetable garden. The news said yesterday to be careful with pet flea collars that you buy -- some can cause cancer and there are ingredients to watch out for (check with your vet.). We have lots of problems with fleas during the summer -- they are even more numerous than the roaches and mosquitoes! Sure hope that Texas gets some rain -- now Mass. has been hit by tornadoes. It should be an interesting trip home. Of course it is now hurricane season on the East Coast and they are predicting a higher number than usual. Always something to keep you on your toes! Take care/keep posting/get in that walk/choose your foods wisely!

South Pittsburg, Tennessee, better known as "The Cornbread Capitol of the World," has an old ordinance pertaining to the cooking of this southern staple. The law declares: "Cornbread isn't cornbread unless it be made correctly. Therefore, all cornbread must be hereby made in nothing other then a cast iron skillet. Those found in violation of this ordinance are to be fined one dollar.

Good morning. It was cooler this morning and the walk felt so good. I still was soaked when I got home. Beka wanted to go on her first camping trip. We are going this weekend, so the first storm of the season is forecast to hit this weekend. We need rain so bad that if going camping will bring it, we will camp.

The weather has not been horrible in Oregon, just wet and a little chilly. Hope your family had a good time in spite of the rain.

We are suppose to hit 80 by Saturday. It has been in the mid 50s all week. I know those hardy people in the midwest are used to temperature swings, but not me. I need to climb into summer slowly. We should have been in the 60s and 70s the last two months.

The Columbia is a foot over flood stage. I don't know what that means, since nothing seems to be getting damaged. I wonder what 80 degree temps are going to to to the snow packs on the two mountains that drain into the Columbia.

Lennie, you were fighting some health problems too. I understand about getting fatigued, and especially not getting the sleep we need. On the other hand the babies do bring so much pleasure it seems worth it.

Hi Group -- Haven't had time to do any posting for the last few days due to taking care of a 6 month old foster boy and a grandson while the parents went to Oregon to celebrate their 5th wedding anniversary. At my age, taking care of two little ones (the grandson is 3 years old) is quite a challenge. Neither of them sleep all night, so I got really "run down" -- each night they were awake at least three times. Keeping them fed, clean, occupied during the day was also quite a feat. Their cousins came to visit a couple of times and a friend helped me take them to a park. Dealing with car seats is also complicated -- they don't fit into the van too well and the straps, etc. defy logic! The older one is a busy boy -- he likes to play outside, so he and Brett were running around a lot and climbed up and down the hill in the back yard. Brett will retrieve a ball as many times as someone will throw one. The weather here has been cool, damp, windy -- usually by this time of year the temps are in the 90s. Don't think we got much above 70 degrees even with the sun shining. Anyway, our son and DIL are back now and the kids welcomed them with lots of enthusiasm. I was so worn out, I slept for about 10 hours last night. Feels like I am getting a cold/sore throat -- will try to fight it off with some medicine and more fluids. We will be heading back to Nevada on Friday. Will try to catch up with the latest news on the dog house -- our numbers dropped by one member. Hope you all had a great time over the long week-end. We were too busy with kid-care to do any celebrating. My DH is trying to fix a screen door that the kids' dogs ruined. The two bull-dogs were just too much for the family -- three boys and too much neglect made the dogs seek attention by chewing up and digging up the yard and outside of the house. They both went to good homes. Dogs need as much people-time as children do and also need to feel appreciated. No one had time for them and they didn't get much exercise. Our DIL had never had a dog before and that breed isn't the best place to start.

Humans and dogs first crossed paths more than ten thousand years ago. Dogs share our lives more completely than does any other animal. Since their domestication, dogs have accompanied and served us in many ways.

After you have exhausted what there is in business, politics, conviviality, and so on - and have found that none of these finally satisfy, or permanently wear - what remains? Nature remains.

Walt Whitman (1819-1892)

Good Morning. I don't know where it was frosty in the morning, but here I worked up a sweat walking off the porch.

I have a small job tonight. There's right tonight. It is a small church. When the temp agency called and said they needed someone to close the books the end of the month. They said that they didn't need someone with as much education as I have, but a lot of people didn't want such a small job and many more would't work for a church of a different denomination. The church is close to the house and I work work several part time jobs.

That was nice you got an opportunity to chat with someone that knew your father in law and his music.

The puppy story is great too. Glad his mama found him.

Good morning. another hot muggy day.

Yesterday, I went off my diet, but i think I had a good reason, least I thought so at the time. Yesterday was slash day at church. I was in the small area. There was about 20 children. I had 4, Lily almost 3, Tony 22 months, Caroline 18 months and Sophie 13 months. The 4 youngest. After an hour of chasing babies from the wading pools to the sprinklers and back for an hour in 90+ temps. Someone came out with ice cream root beer floats for the teachers.

Have a safe Memorial Day. Remember the sun kills 1 person a day. Alcohol makes the heat worse.

If one dream should fall and break into a thousand pieces, never be afraid to pick one of those pieces up and begin again."
Flavia Weedn

Good morning. Last night Tony wanted to go for a walk. In other words he wanted to ride in the wagon while I walked. I put Tony in the wagon, put the leash on Mutt and off we went. For some reason known only to a 22 month old, watching the ground go by is funny, very funny. Mutt started holding back, no much, just not walking right beside me like he normally does. I looked and Tony was holding his tail. Mutt didn't complain or pull his tail away. He walked 1 1/2 miles with a little one holding his tail. Come 8:00 Mutt went in his crate and curled up for the night. Tony crawled in after him. Tony was not happy with he when I said he was sleeping in his bed, not Mutts crate.

Good Afternoon. Last night my body said it was break time. I pushed it to finish the Spring challenge. This morning I listened to my body and said ok. I didn't even go for my morning walk, but then DH wanted to go to the mall for a walk.

We went to the mall. I started walking and a man whistled at me. Normally I wouldn't have payed any attention, but for some reason I went over and spoke to him. He asked where I lived and I told him my mailing address was Alvin. He told me he went to Alvin every weekend to the Opery. Because of his age, I asked him if he heard of Floyd. Well yes, he had lived 2 blocks from Floyd and yes he thought Floyd was the best singer ever. I didn't get much walking in, but learned a lot about Floyd. Floyd is my father in law and in the country music hall of fame.

Yesterday when I was walking a little puppy joined me. He must have been about 8 weeks, just a baby. He had a collar, so I knew he belonged to someone. I didn't think he would go far, but he kept coming. I knew he wasn't going the mile before turning. I also knew that just a little up the road was a momma dog that had puppies about his age. When we got to momma dog, she took matters into her own paws. She followed me till she convinced the puppy he was going with her. I don't know weather it was her puppy or she decided he needed her, but I figured he was better off with her then walking with me.

Good afternoon, I just got back from the Y. A guy and i came out together. He was laughing that the Y now has a sunna, you just walk outside. The weather man says it will be hot and muddy for the foreseeable future. Lots of sunscreen will be needed.

We got 4 inches of rain yesterday and we are expecting a little more again today, Yesterday Al and I got our walk in early before the rain. Callie didn't want to go but she did go with Al and me today.

Lennie, I can't imagine going 40 years without having a dog like your brother did. What an adjustment it must be to have a dog again and a little dog as well. I just heard the author of "Dog Sense" on NPR today. Are you aware of this book? I am going to see if they have it at my library.

We are staying in town for the holiday but my daughter leaves tonight to go to DC for her national forensics tournament. She should have a great time and I am keeping my fingers crossed that she will break into the semi finals.

Morning group -- The sun is shining, at least for now. We only have a six hour drive today. Brett is enjoying the cooler temps. in northern California. We took him to the beach yesterday and he didn't want to leave. At my brother's house, there were two little dogs that were running around and playing -- Brett kept growling/"gurgling" at them -- it looked like he wanted to join in, but he really doesn't know how to play. He captured a big red ball and held it ransom during our visit, though. My brother and family had not had a dog in 40 years (since his beloved golden retriever died). The fact that they now have a tiny white, curly Bishon-mix, is very surprising. One of the daughters has rescued five dogs -- she lives on a big piece of property. It was great seeing my neices (three of them). They came to dinner last evening. We watched the end of American Idol last evening. Scotty got the big prize and will be making some recordings. Great story, Mary Alice, about being protected from snakes by your dog! Brett isn't very protective unless he thinks a dog is going to come at us. New dog book to try (recommended by a relative): "One Good Dog" by Susan Wilson. It was on the New York Times bestseller list. It was written in 2010, so I must have missed it. I gave one of my neice's a book about learning how to do dog massage. There are actually quite a few books to learn the technique. Hope you are staying safe/staying busy/staying on track/planning something fun for the holiday. We'll be taking care of a 6-month old foster child and our 3 1/2 year old grandson while our son and his wife take a vacation and celebrate their anniversary.

According to Newton's Law of Motion, when a car going 60 miles per hour in one direction gets hit by a mosquito going one mile per hour in the opposite direction, the car will slow down one-millionth of a mile per hour.

Alice Thinks----sometimes----maybe-----perhaps

Good morning. DH is not a dog person, but I have always walked in the dark. When we moved to the country and didn't have sidewalks or street lights, he said I needed a dog. That's when I got my first dog. They are warning us that this drought has brought the snakes out. Mutt is great. Where to my other dog a snake was a snake was a snake and I needed to be protected from all of them. Mutt knows the difference. A dead snake doesn't need any notice, a non poisonous, gets a wide walk around and a poisonous, we stop until I lead the way around. Today, we didn't walk until it was light. I saw 3 dead snakes on the road and 4 times Mutt took me across the road. I didn't see anything, but that is Mutts job.

"A day of worry is more exhausting than a week of work."
John Lubbock

I talked to Mom this morning, so far all the storms have gone around her, but she does wish I would take the rain.

I was talking to one of the pilots at work. He said the only reason they are flying at all is because we do so much rice and rice is an irrigated crop. We should be doing corn, wheat, milo, cotton and hay a long with the rice right now. He said a lot of crop dusters don't have the rice crop to fall back on and their planes haven't flown their first flight this year. Doesn't sound good for food cost.

Morning group -- We've been on the road for a few days. Now in Eureka, California where my family lives (we moved from Oregon to here in 1960). It is raining and quite cool -- 50s. It was nice in Central California where we stayed with my husband's aunt. He got to see his cousins and we got fed well on fresh food from the farms in the area (cherry and strawberry season right now). Final stop in California tomorrow when we get to Redding. Will watch our middle son's children while he and his wife go to Oregon to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary. They were married in San Francisco, but enjoy going to Ashland to see plays and shows. Brett got along okay with a little Llasa apso mix female at out last stop, but wasn't too happy to be with a Bishon-mix male at my brother's house (it is a puppy and wanted to play). Looks like it is going to rain the next two days. Such a sadness in Missouri and now near Oklahoma City. We have driven though those towns and really can't believe how much damage has been done. This has been such a wicked year for storms. Hope you all have some fun plans for the holiday coming up -- it is supposed to be the start of summer! Eureka stays cool year-round -- it is in a "fog belt" that descends when the interior area warms up. I went to high school and college in this area -- you have to drive inland to get much sun after June (it stays foggy usually until September). Not too many people get sun tans around here! Sorry to hear that the bunnies got killed. My husband's aunt has tiny birds (finches) indoors (they keep multiplying) and the cat spends most of the day watching the cages. Can't blame an animal for its instincts! Take care/keep walking/set some new goals/work on those pounds!

Humans and dogs first crossed paths more than ten thousand years ago. Dogs share our lives more completely than does any other animal. Since their domestication, dogs have accompanied and served us in many ways.

Serve the dinner backward, do anything-but for goodness sake, do something weird. Elsa Maxwell

Ok I'm a little strange. DGD says I gave up my adult card, DGS says I'm silly. And both my children and all my grandchildren know if they want to spend time with me all they need to do is say lets go for a walk and I'll drop every thing and go with them.

It is another hot muggy day. Mutt and I went for our morning walk early.

Oh MaryAlice, if only we could send some rain your way. We are having a hard time cutting the grass since it rains every day and it is growing like crazy. I cut it Wednesday when we had a short break in the rain and I cut it again on Friday and Sunday. If is stops raining for a few minutes, I go out and cut the lawn. We have an old fashioned reel mower that is powered by me so it is good for the environment and my waistline.

Al ended up killing the bunny and we found another floating dead in the fountain. Our neighbors saw the momma with 2 more babies though so she didn't lose her whole family.

Al is getting stronger every day, I just can't walk him as much as I would like due to the rain. Today we went out and got a block away when the sirens rang and we had to head home. After what happened in Joplin, I didn't want to be out while the sirens were going off.

I am making progress with the few pounds I wanted to lose by joining Melissa's firecracker team. Just having to weigh myself every Saturday and record my weight is all the accountability I needed. I'm grateful to Melissa for suggesting it.

Quizzes to grade and bed to get to, so I will talk to you tomorrow.

Good morning. It hot, well the thermometer doesn't say so, so it must be the humidity.

We went for our morning walk. Then I went out and sprayed the grass growing up around the AC. It is to dry for the grass in the yard, but it grows great where I don't want it to grow. Now that should make it rain.

Hello Mary Alice. It is a shame all the suffering from cancer your family has endured. Hopefully you will be the one to break the cycle.

All the dogs are done with their early morning run around and are down for a nap now, lol's. I had my morning run around also chasing the neighbors dogs away from the chickens, lol's. I think I will take a little nap now also, lol's. I'm always up by 3 am and it is now after 7am.

Have a great day everyone.

Hi Mary Alice. Do you have any clue why you have dodged the bullet? Healthier life style, more serenity???? Sorry for sounding so flip. I too pray for continued health for you and for the rest of your family to practice whatever you are doing to stay so healthy

Walked dogs 2x today. Drizzled on us both times. Wore my raincoat to stay warm enough.

DIL may get to come home from hospital tomorrow.

Good morning. After days of waking at 2AM, I slept till 6:30. It sure felt good. The problem is the heat. I had a black dog and he had trouble with the heat, so when I got Mutt I got a tan dog. The first time I washed him, I discovered his skin is black. Mutt has as more trouble with the sun than I do.

I talked to Mom yesterday. She said I'm the last one in 3 generations that is not a cancer surviver. I didn't know my brother had cancer. Maybe that is because I'm the last one that hasn't had cancer. Mostly breast cancer and shin cancer, but also prostrate cancer and lung cancer.

I ask for a takeout box when I order and have lunch for the next day.

I always take food home so I can enjoy it for another meal. I do split meals with DD and GD. It saves money and we can afford one of the more expensive meals when we only buy one.

Neighbors are having a party and since we live in the country it is the most action either dog has seen in awhile. They keep wolfing little wolfs at each other every time they hear laughter or a car come or go.

Good Morning,

It is a crisp, sunny autumn morning and we are going out for breakfast. We don't order two complete meals, we order one and split it. Keeps us from eating to much. For some reason I find it hard to leave food on the plate when eating out, lol's. Once we get back it is lots of yard work. Have a great day everyone!

Good morning. My body says todays is a rest day.

Quote of the Day
"It is easier to fight for one's principles than to live up to them."
Alfred Adler

I watched a show there a lady had lost quite a bit of weight, but the last 20lbs wouldn't come off. I understand that one. She went to a trainer that up her on a diet of 6 meals a day. The first 5 were like the 3 meals and 2 snacks SP says we should eat. The difference is the 6 meal is between dinner and bed time. He said she must never go to bed hungry. She can eat as much or as little as she wants, but can only eat a cucumber.

Good afternoon. The winds are wrong for the crop dusters, so I got off early and am off Monday.

I have Beka this weekend. Her birthday is the 25th. We are going camping for our birthdays, but can't go till the 1st week June. I think we will go get new night cloths to take camping. I know that isn't a big deal for 3 birthdays, DH's birthday is the 31st, but Beka wanted to go on her first camping trip. DH and I camp several times a year, but this will be Beka's first.

Loved the bunny story. I am sure Buddy would be right there with Al digging all your ivy up to launch bunnies out for Al to catch, and yes, my Hubby would be right out there rescuing all the bunnies. I think I need to save your bunny story for a prompt. for my writing. It would be great fun to expand on that and also the time my hubby rescued the bat.

If I were to vote, I would think that dogs were domesticated in many places. I am sure they domesticated us rather than us them. What ailing, elderly or pregnant starving dog would not hang around a human garbage dump cleaning up the garbage. I am sure the garbage man service was appreciated as was the early alerts to unwanted predators or visitors. It probably started with an uneasy alliance that became easier as the next generation of puppies and humans became tamer and humans learned to be alpha leaders. My guess is abandoned puppies probably looked to their human protectors for guidance too. Our pack instincts and their pack instincts are not so different. What one year old does not share with the family dog given the opportunity? It was win/win all the way.

Hi group! The sun is shining and the winds have died down for awhile. Temps. here will be back to the norm by next week. We are headed for California tomorrow, so may get caught up in their latest storms. Patti -- bunnies are funny critters -- we raised them for 4-H projects for years -- they are hard to understand and they can be very stubborn and fearless. Mommy bunnies like dense cover for their babies and your ivy may have been the "perfect" spot. If the mommy bunny had been around dogs/cats, she may not have considered them dangerous. We have pulled many a baby bunny out of the mouths of our dogs and cats -- they are pretty sturdy and the mommies usually take them back. There are cottontails and jack rabbits on the desert -- Brett will perk up and try to chase a cottontail, but not a jack rabbit. He would rather chase lizards and big bugs. We get upset about all the stray cats around the neighborhood -- some are huge. They feed on the desert animals and have wiped out the quail and many of the smaller birds. One lady is dedicated to getting them all "fixed", but they remain feral. I went to the library yesterday to read the newspaper and got a hand-out called "The Vegas Dog" -- it is a big newspaper about all things canine, including articles about dogs, advertisements, posting of events, lists of all the rescues and dog parks, and the locations of pet stores. In one article, the development of dog breeds was discussed. There are over 800 dog breeds now being recognized by various kennel clubs worldwide. Despite all the different types of dogs, they are able to distinguish dogs from other kinds of animals. Modern dog breeds show more variation in size, appearance, and behavior than any other domestic animal. Within the range of extremes, dogs generally share attributes with their wild ancestors, the wolves. Like most mammals, dogs are dichromats and have color vision equivalent to red-green color blindness in humans. Dogs detect sounds as low as the 16-20 Hz frequency range (compared to 20-70 Hz range for humans) and above 45 kHz (compared to 13-20 kHz for humans), and in addition, have a degree of ear mobility that helps them to rapidly pinpoint the exact location of a sound. Eighteen or more muscles can tilt, rotate and raise or lower a dog's ear. Additionally, a dog can identify a sound's location much faster than a human can, as well as hear sounds up to four times the distance that humans are able to hear. It is well established that dogs can distinguish two different types of scents: an air scent from some person or thing that has recently passed by, and a ground scent that remains detectable for a much longer period of time. Dogs are very social animals, but their personality and behavior vary with breed as well as with how they are treated by their owners and others that they come in contact with. The loyalty and devotion that dogs demonstrate as part of their natural instincts as pack animals closely mimic the human idea of love and friendship -- dogs often view their humans as member of their own pack. It is still a mystery as to whether modern dogs descended from a single domestication event or whether dogs were domesticated independently in more than one location. Dogs may have been companions of humans for 17,000 years. Dogs were domesticated as guardians and companions and valued for their intelligence, docility and ability to bond.

Good morning. I have Fridays off from school so I am able to post.

So, we have had a brown bunny in our yard all winter and Al has been obsessed with it, wanting to go outside all the time and watch for it. Turns out she made a den in the ivy against the back of the house. We had some fencing around the ivy to keep the dogs out. DH took the fencing down last weekend to take some of the ivy and transplant it out front. So I look out the kitchen window yesterday to see Al in the ivy trying to get at something and I sprinted outside and grabbed his collar and yanked him out. Then I saw the ivy move as something was trying to get away.

We have a small fountain/pond out in the ivy and I saw a baby bunny swimming in the pond part and trying to pull itself up on the rocks surrounding the water. It was finally able to do that and got back under the ivy. DH found another one trapped in the window well and had to pull it out with a gloved hand. I sure hope momma comes back. There are 11 housed on our side of the street and only 2 of the houses have dogs. Our neighbors behind us don't have a dog. I don't understand why she made our yard her home. We aren't the only house with vegetation. There is a double lot across the street with a beautiful sunken garden and no dogs. I just don't get it.

Busy three days. I wrote a blog about them.

Lennie,
The allergy tips sound good and include some of my favorite foods. I recently discovered FAGE (pronounced fa-yeh) yogurt. It is so rich and creamy, high in protein and takes on other flavors readily. I use it for salad dressing along with a spoon full of ranch dressing. Yummy. I think with a little honey, it would be great as an oatmeal topper too. I don't drink milk because of the increase of allergy problems, but the yogurt does not seem to bother me, but a dear friend sent an article regarding the reasons all dairy products should be banned. I don't want to to give up yogurt and cottage cheese. Thanks for sharing there are two sides to every debate.

Melissa,
The book was fluffy, happy and so worth the time even if the ending fell a little flat for me. I thought for awhile the author was flirting with symbolism with her threes and the triple wall murals, three goddesses, weather elements etc. but she never really tied that up for me like I was hoping. Also, what happened to Ray? I am going to have to reread at some point to see if I overlooked something. I read this in so many sittings, it would not surprise me.

Hi Group -- Cool again this morning on the desert. Got to go out for dinner at a casino for my birthday. Stayed up to watch "American Idol" to hear the last three contestants try for the top prize. Sinuses are bad this morning -- lots of things blooming and the dust kicked up by the wind doesn't help. Here are some foods that may help allergies -- salmon are packed with EPA and DHA, two super-healthful omega-3 fatty acids that may reduce the risk of allergies. Trout and tuna are good sources, too. If you are not a fan of fish, opt for nuts and seeds instead. Grape juice is a good source of resveratrol, an antioxidant compound that seems to reduce asthma inflammation in studies. Red wine is an even richer souce of resveratrol, but alcohol may not be good for allergies. Snacking on red grapes, blueberries, and peanuts is another way to get the antioxidant in your system. Beans are a good source of healthy protein and folate. B-vitamins may reduce the intensity of immune system reactions to common allergies. Research shows that a diet high in red meat may enhance inflammation, so cutting back could be good news for your symptoms. Apples have quercetin, a flavonoid thought to curb the production of histamine and help cool inflammation -- two culprits that play a role in allergic symptoms. Yogurt contains loads of probiotics -- those good-for-your gut bacteria. Studies indicate that probiotics can lower levels of an immune substance known to fire up allergy symptoms. Carrots help with allergies because they are brimming with cartoneoids -- compounds thought to have an allergy-quelling effect. It can't hurt to eat more highly colored fruits and veggies and cut back on refined grains, additives, foods high in saturated fats, red meats, and alcohol. Try avoiding those allergy-triggers, too, that set you sneezing/coughing.

I had a trainer tell me. You can do crunches an hour a day, but if you let it all hang out the other 23 hours a day, it won't do you any good. So:

Stay on our diet- you might have abs of steel and not know it. nice thought

Stand and sit tall. If nothing else it will make you look thiner.

Tuck your tush ever time you think about it. Every time you stand up is a good habit.

Do your ab exercises 20 min 3 x a week

Hi! Haven't been writing much in the "health in the news" discussion forum. Will post some "Fitness Advice -- Myth or Fact" info. here, so it might get read. The following is from an article by Linda Melone in "Lifescript, healthy living for women": Fitness Advice Myth #1 Daily crunches give you a flat stomach. Fact -- Doing hundreds of crunches, or any other abdominal exercise, won't flatten your stomach if you eat too many calories. You have to reduce overall body fat -- there is no such thing as "spot reducting". Fitness Advice Myth #2 Stretching before exercise prevents injury. Fact -- Studies have now shown that stretching before a workout doesn't reduce your risk of injury and may in fact increase it. Try a progressive warm-up instead of stretching, then do some slow stretching after your workout when your muscles are warmed up. Fitness Advice Myth #3 Step machines make your butt bigger. Fact -- The step machines actually help shrink your buttocks by toning muscles and burning calories. Fitness Advice Myth #4 Exercise in the "fat-burning zone" to burn the most calories. Fact -- Yes, you burn a greater percentage of fat at lower intensities, but at higher workloads, you burn body fat and more calories. Try burning body fat and calories with a combination of low- and high-intensity exercise (this is called "interval training"). This helps increase the calorie burn while helping avoid fatigue. Fitness Myth #6 Weight training gives women big muscles. Fact -- Women don't produce enough testosterone to create muscles like a man. Weight lifting for women helps reduce muscle loss that occurs as a result of aging and keeps aging bones strong. Use enough weight (or a resistance band) to perform 8-12 reps of each movement. When you can do that comfortably, move on to a slightly heavier weight or stronger band. Fitness Myth #7 Take a hot bath to heal strained muscles. Fact -- A muscle strain typically involves inflammation or swelling, which can be made worse by adding heat. Heat may also increase the healing time of an acute -- or sudden -- injury. Cold, on the other hand, acts as a counter-irritant. When a injury first happens, use cold. Remember this R.I.C.E. or rest/ice/compression (with an elastic bandage or splint) and then elevation of the body part. Once you are over the inflammatory period (about 48-72 hours after the injury), heat can speed healing. Heat can be soothing, however, if you are just sore from a workout, but don't have an injury. A hot bath can make you feel better by increasing blood flow and relaxing muscles. Fitness Advice Myth #8 Pilates and yoga exercises will make you "long and lean". Fact -- Your muscle shape is dictated primarily by your genes. The actual length of your skeletal muscle can't be altered. Practice pilates and yoga for their real benefits -- flexibility and core strength -- and not for the goal of altering your shape.

We have 2 May morning coffee cafes. Some people are posting to both and others are posting to just one. I don't want to delete either since we will lose our posts but we should use just one so we don't have to check each one. The other one comes up first so we can use that one.

Happy Anniversary Melissa! Mark and I just celebrated our 25th last week. May is a beautiful month for weddings.

Al is getting stronger every day. He gets a little wiped out on our walks but otherwise you wouldn't know what he had been through. I keep petting him and telling him how glad I am to have him here. When you nearly lose your pet you sure do realize what a short time we have with them.

On our way to pick Al up from the hospital, we were on the expressway and a pit bull came down the embankment and got right into traffic. I nearly came to a stop when he came into my lane. I didn't hit him but the car in the next lane did. I slammed on my brakes without looking in the rear mirror. DS and I could have been killed by a truck. Thankfully, no one was behind me and we didn't cause an accident by stopping on the freeway.

Maryalice-- The eliptical really bothers my ankle, so I do the bike and the treadmill. I usually do both if I am using the machines. I'm going to water aerobics in the morning. I won't get to go this summer b/c I am teaching during the time of the classes, but I have a pool so usually get water aerobics done each day during the summer! Let me know if you try the kickboxing. I was thinking of trying our step aerobics, but I tried stepping up an down on one of the steps one day by myself and it was wearing me out! Oh, I did like Spinning! It didn't bother my ankle at all, but it hurt my butt! LOL!

Depending on my ankle, I do the elliptical or the bike. I like to do water aerobics on Saturdays. I'm thinking about trying spinning and looked into a kickboxing class, but from talking to the instructor, I'm not sure my ankle would be up for it.

MaryAlice-- What kinds of things do you do at the Y? I try to take a strength training class at mine twice a week. It is called Weights in Motion and is ST using dumbbells, resistance bands and our own body weight. I also do Zumba, Water Aerobics and I teach my own Cardio Bellydance class. I also like to use the cardio machines occasionally.

Cathy-- The risque stuff does play a part in the story, but for a chapter or 2 I started to think it was too much! But, then they got away from it for a little while and when sex was mentioned it was actually funny. The dogs are just too cute though! Really makes me wonder what Jack would say if he could talk! They introduced a new puppy to the story and I just love him too! At one time the puppy was standing on a chair looking out the window and barking, but the woman could understand him and he was saying "Cat, cat, cat, cat...." and the older dog came up and looked and said "Oh, that's a squirrel" and then they both started barking (saying) "Squirrel, squirrel, squirrel...."! Can't you just imagine 2 little dogs doing that? It made me laugh out loud. I have to say .... It is not the best story, but the dogs are cute and the story is so light I don't have to think and I am loving that!

We have had storms on and off all day and they are making Jack a nervous wreck. Sometimes he is fine and other times storms really get on his poor little nerves! A little while ago I got in the shower and when I got out the wind was whipping and the rain was pouring down. The wind was blowing stuff around on the deck and that was really tearing Jack up! I suppose he thought someone was out there. I told him it was just the wind and to calm down and he seemed to really understand me. I'm going to zumba shortly. I've been doing my strength training here at home today.

Tomorrow is Anthony's and my 20th wedding anniversary. 20 years? I'm wondering where they went! My parents gave us gift cards to one of our favorite eateries. We plan to go furnitture shopping on Saturday and then go get dinner. At least they offer some healthier selections. I'm very proud of Anthony. He is doing very well on Weight Watchers so far. He had a much better day yesterday than I did as far as food choices!

OK, talk to y'all later!

Hope you get the kinks out of the new reading program soon.

I am still warring with the kindle too. I have the book purchased, but can't get it downloaded. I hope to get to a wifi hot spot in town and see if I have better luck.

Risque can be fun if it is appropriate to the storyline. The other Dogs and Goddesses book started out quite risque. I wasn't sure if I wanted to read a whole book of young people burning off excess energy.

Rainy, and I have not felt well so we only did one walk during a rain break. Buddy is glued to my leg.

I installed a new version of my screenreading program and it is not letting me do some things on SP! It won't let me do anything with Weight Watchers and I am just so fed up! I do want to lose weight, but I want to be able to track my food and exercise by myself! So very frustrated!

Cathy-- The book can be a bit risque, but not too bad. Nothing graphic. Woofie is the little long haired weenie dog and I just adore him! Things are starting to get crazy in Ohio with a God and a Goddess now in residence! LOL!

"Everything you are against weakens you. Everything you are for empowers you."
Dr. Wayne Dyer

Good morning. What's with it being 50 the middle of May? Mutt and I walked down to Slick Ass Ranch. We don't go that way very often. I can't walk at night because of the coyotes. During the day it is a very hot walk. This morning we had 1 wild animal. A 3 or 4 month old female pit bull. She was very friendly. The main thing on her mind was to get between Mutt and me. She was of good body weight and had a good coat, so I'm hoping she just escaped out of someones yard. She is a puppy and too much dog for us. She would have DH on the floor in 5 min. She would make someone else a good pet.

I am enjoying Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. It is a historical/mystery/romance. With lots of garden and ocean descriptions. It was a slow start, but really good now. It will be one to reread.

Purchased Dogs and Goddesses from Amazon for the kindle and can't download is even with the USB cable. I know a couple wifi hotspots in town, so will take the kindle with me tomorrow and see if it won't download there until I can figure out how to bypass Qwest and all the blocks.

Walked dogs this morning in the sun and a very pleasant breeze.

Hi Group -- Glad you got that book and author figured out! I found a book in a thrift store in Boulder City called "Men and Dogs" by Katie Crouch. So far there is only one dog -- the pet of a doctor who disappears on a boating outing near Charleston, South Carolina. The author of the book is from San Francisco, where the doctor's daughter escapes to leave Charleston far behind as an adult. Her brother is a homosexual -- seems like there are quite a few in books and television shows these days!! This author has only written one other book and it is entitled "Girls in Trucks".

Humans and dogs first crossed paths more than ten thousand years ago. Dogs share our lives more completely than does any other animal. Since their domestication, dogs have accompanied and served us in many ways.

Good Morning. I went out the other day and measured the crack in our front yard. It was 1/2 inch wide and 6" deep. We got about 1/4 inch of rain the other day, but that didn't change things. The rain did bring out the birds.

Where I'm working now, I get off at 4 and drive by the Y. I mean right by the Y. I come around a curve in the road and there it is staring at me. No more excuses.

Thanks for straightening me out. The Dogs and Goddesses book I found was by Linda Segall Anable. What I read of it was light too, but started out like the middle of a Harlequin Romance. Your book sounds so much more interesting. I am hooked on the first few pages I have read of it on Amazon. Can't wait to get it downloaded. Hope to get that figured out by Monday at the latest.

I don't recognize those names Cathy.... It is called Dogs & Goddesses and has 2 authors. The females are Daisy, Shar, and Abby. The dogs are Bowzer, Bailey, and a little long haired dachsund that I can't think of his name and he is my favorite! Let me see if I can find the authors for you!

They are: Jennifer Crusie & Anne Stuart -- The Kidnall (sp?) version is $7.99. It is a bit of a romance and a bit fantasy with the whole goddess theme, but the dogs talking and the humans' reactions to them talking is priceless! I feel a happy ending coming on!

Mary: Glad your co-worker was alert to the cattle.

Good afternoon. I went to the Y on my way home from work and did my 30 min on the elliptical.

I work for a crop dusting company. One of the pilots had just called in that he was on the way in when the police rolled up looking for him. He wasn't surprised at all to see them. I only work Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Yesterday while he was flying to a field he saw cattle in what looked like a make shift pen, away from any pasture, in a place he had never sean cattle before and didn't think cattle belonged. He called the police and told them. He had given the police the lead they needed to bust a cattle rustling group. The rustlers thought the cattle were well hidden, according to the police, they were hard to find even with the pilots coordinates. The rustlers hadn't figured on a plane.

I saw something about people that had gone to extremes to lose weight. No surgery wasn't one of them. One lady packed everything she was going to eat for the day in a cooler. She had to eat everything she packed, but nothing more. She had gone to a Dr and he had gotten her in touch with the nutritionist that would help here pack it with the right foods so she would get all the nutrition she needed and have the right calories. I guess that isn't to far from what I do. I pack a lunch box every day that not only has my lunch, but the snacks for the day. Yes I even add the snack I'll want leaving the Y.

Hi again, group -- There are two May Morning Coffee Cafes because Patti set one up after I had already done it. Makes it kinda confusing and you only get one -- I've tried to correct it to no avail. Anyway, it is 90 degrees on the desert today, so will have to delay the evening walk. So far, Brett and I have managed to go out for walks every day. I sleep so much better when I am physically tired. We are still working on this old house and the yard -- since we've been here, we've had to have the garage door opener repaired and the water heater and the lawn mower. It had been seven months since we were able to drive this far. Houses in this area are still not selling. This one is paid for -- my husband's parents had a very low-rate mortgage. My MIL died 10 years ago and my FIL has been gone for four years. The little town seems to be shrinking due to the economy -- several small businesses are gone. The bowling alley that has been here for 60 years is closing, at least for awhile. Recreation is the main entertainment -- boating, fishing, golfing, biking. You can walk just about anywhere because the downtown is close to the residential areas. There is one high school, one elementary school, and one middle school. The retired people tend to go to cooler areas for the summer unless they can tolerate the high temps (up to 100+ degrees). It is fun to hang out our clothes and have a more tranquil life -- don't need too much variety in clothing -- shorts and short-sleeved tops and sandals. We are only 30 miles or so from Las Vegas, but that is another world. We rarely ever go into the city. Hope you have some great plans for your week-end and can include your doggies!

Humans and dogs first crossed paths more than ten thousand years ago. Dogs share our lives more completely than does any other animal. Since their domestication, dogs have accompanied and served us in many ways.

LOL! 14 times? What a spin! Jack is pretty lazy and gets right to the sleeping position!

Cathy-- This book will be perfect and it was prdoduced for audio by Brilliance which is an Amazon company! I'm into Chapter 7 or 8 and it is a very light read! This is in the original audio and the reader is very good and the dog voices are cute! It is truly escape literature!

They've been calling for rain and T'storms all day, but none yet. I hope they hold off and allow the community college to have a dry graduation! I would've liked to have gone, but Anthony can't get home from work in time.

I went to the Yto teach my cardio bellydance class, but no one came! So, I walked the treadmill for 20 min and my lower back got to hurting so I switched and rode the stationary bike for 30 minutes! I really sweated. In fact, I think I need a shoer! I keep smelling something and I think it is me! Oh no!! Think I'll go wash! Later....

After experiencing twenty five years of the anxiety and sadness that surrounds special ed and especially the babies who are newly diagnosed, I only read romance, comedies, sci fi and fantasy. I needed all my leisure reading to be light and easy to read. Harry Potter and Twilight are about as deep as I can get, though I did read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Shack. Both were excellent reads, but too intense to be relaxing.

The kids got me a Kindle. The dog and goddess story sounds perfect to me. I will see if I can find it on Amazon. My Kindle reads out loud too. It is rather monochromatic sounding, but I find it soothing.

You know who I like to listen to read is Captain Kirk otherwise know as William Shatner. He does a different voice for every character. His women's voices cracked me up at first, but it took me just minutes to buy into his characters and thoroughly enjoy his readings.

I am reading Forgotten Garden by Kate Morten. It is about four generations of women with lots of secrets and mysteries. The story bounces around so much I was confused, but now I am enthralled and am going to have to reread it just as soon as I am done.

I start my writing class next Wednesday. That will be fun.

Walked the dogs two times today. The sun was beautiful, but it only got to 60 degrees. We might hit the 70s next week. Spring may happen yet.

Buddy has turned 14 times before flopping. I think I will just flop. Sweet Dreams.

Cathy-- Jack likes to catch bees too! The other day he went after one that was actually outside the glass door! That was a bit scary! I was able to get the grades fixed with very little work and am so relieved!

Since I didn't make it to my ST class at the Y today I did it at home. I laid down on the floor to do some core work and some chest work and got attacked by the love dog! I got loads of doggie kisses!

I just started a new book that seems kind of cute. It is called Dogs and goddesses. It is a bit silly about an actual Goddess (mesopotanean {sp?}) in Ohio of all places who brings some women together for a dog obedience class. 3 of the women are connected somehow, but I just started the book, so don't know how yet. The Goddess gave them some kind of drink and now the 3 women can understand their dogs as if they were talking to them! Very cute so far! I can't remember the authors b/c the book was just a random send to me from the Library of Congress, but it was written by 2 people. If you need just a silly summer read with dogs in it, this might be it!

Goodnight mutt lovers! Turn around 3 times and flop down!

Hope you can fix the grades without too many extra hours of work. I will follow up with the social worker.

The sun is shining, A queen bee settled into the rock and dirt this year by the garden and walkway. Since we have not had honey bees in years, I am loathe to destroy them, but think I need to get a bee person out to move them. Buddy likes to try to catch bees and he has gotten stung and least once if not more. We walked on the old highway at noon. Should be able to get two walks in today.

Cathy-- As a therapist and a person who has been through therapy myself all I can say is that the grief counseling can't hurt. You are going through some major life changes that involve quite a few losses and it is always better to get all the grief and emotions out rather than keeping them in! I'm glad the 3 of you got a nice walk in!

Jack thinks he is the town cryer and has to spread the news!

I am stressed out again! I accidently entered 2 grades wrong on the computer and now have to move Heaven and Earth to fix my mistake! I had a student who had a name change mid semester and when I was entering the grades her name threw me off. Ah! I should've been more careful and I actually thought I was, but I was stressed when I entered the grades too, so must've heard soemthing wrong! Wish me luck!

Well, must attend to the problems! Later!

Jack is always the life of the party. He is just calling everyone in for a drink and a romp.

Nothing really new about the doc appointment. I am slowly getting better and pushing myself to do more things. She wants me to see a social worker for help filling out the sliding fee forms since I currently have no income. She also thinks I need some grief counseling for loss of job, sick hubby and loss of health. I keep telling her I have all of you. Oh well, if it helps my case with Standard Insurance then so be it.

Took Buddy and Sasha for a walk by myself this evening. We all needed it.

Hello Peeps & Pups!! Long time no bark again! I was soooo busy with finishing up the semester! Papers were due at the end of April then the first week of May was exam time! So, I spent 2 weeks non-stop grading as well as all the stuff that my online students wait to turn in at the very last minute! I felt like I'd never get done, but I did! I posted the last grade o nthe computer at 11 AM on MOnday!

oNOw, what a difference a continent makes! WE are just getting warm and sunny! I'm looking forward to maybe getting the pool opened this weekend! Jack thinks it is a giant dog bowl and refuses to get in fearing the ginormous dog that might drink from it! That is the exact same way he feels about my stability ball! He doesn't want to mess with that big dog's stuff! LOL!

Now that it is warm he goes out and barks all evening! I don't know what is out roaming in that back field, but it drives him crazy! Us too. The neighbors too. although they say they worry when they don't hear him! He's sleeping right next to my chair right now!

I hope everyone is well. I really want to get some pics posted soon too! I need hubby to do it and he is just wore out! Ritchie of course has still not returned work and I sorta doubt he ever will! It's a mess! Hug a mutt today!

Good morning the morning heat is back. I haven't taken a walk this morning. DD got me a new strength DVD where you sit on an exercise ball. It was a 25 min exercises. I do 25 min strength DVD's all the time. Level 1 was to easy for me. There wasn't a middle level , so i went to advanced. The advanced seemed to take forever. I figured it was because it was advanced. Well i'm not recovering like I think I should, so last night after fighting to finish the DVD, I pulled the cover and checked. The advanced level is 45 min. Today I have got to take a break. I will do some of the stretch DVD's on SP.

It is Friday. It started cool and is getting hot fast. I'm at work watching out for planes. The winds are calm, so they are both up. At least they radio in when they are headed back.

Yesterday was my rest day and today is strength, but family problems had me a nerves wreck yesterday and when I'm nerves I walk and walk and walk, then I clean and clean and clean. Now I'm not sue how much strength I'll get done.

Your welcome! I don't have a wagon for the old dogs, but then again, where we live there is no place to pull one. No paved roads or sidewalks, not even the long driveway is paved. Nothing but dirt, rocks and thatch grass, lol's. I do help the old dogs get around, well at least the small one. Romeo may be old and has lost a lot of weight, but he is still close to 100 pounds, lol's. I do try to make them move a bit with the walks.

I remember growing up in Ky, I longed for the sun during the winter months. Just a glimpse of the sun was enough to bring up my spirits. After 37 years of that, I was so thankful for sunny winters here, lol's. My first dog lived to age 16 and that was even after a hysterectomy at age 14. I still miss her a lot. This new puppy is something else, she takes no crap off anyone. One of the old dogs snapped at her and she went after the old lady, lol's. Nikita is only 2 months old, but fights like she is 2 years! She will be alpha female before she is 6 months old, lol's. We are raising her and Elliot to take over the protector positions. Our female passed from bone cancer and romeo only protects his blanket, lol's. Elliot already goes with me everywhere and Nikita will learn when she is a bit bigger. I posted a few pics of the two of them playing on our bed. We keep all our dogs inside, none of them sleep outside at night and the front door is always open during the day so they come and go as they please.

I love hearing about different places. Thank you for sharing. Our winters rain for nine months. Then July, August and September are just perfect.

Do you have a wagon for your geriatric dogs? I tried to rig a stroller once for the big dog so he could rest his hind end and walk with just his front. It did not work. I think one of those wagons where you can remove the side rails would have been a better investment so he could still go on walks even when he couldn't walk anymore. Sara, I just carried her in my arms when we went on walks. She loved it. I have had two dogs live to age 17. It is heartbreaking, but worth the extra care.

Farther south towards Cape Town, they get snow and the mountain cities get plenty of snow. We got snow in this area a few years ago and it was the first snow in 26 years. Yes, many people only hear the word "Africa" and they automatically think hot and dry, but it is not all like that. We have weather more like southern Florida. We get morning frost a lot in this area so we do have to be careful of plant damage and such things. It does get very dry in this area during the winter though. We don't get rain for months and then the grass fires go. They have already started here. With the fields of tall thatch grass, they can get rather frightening so we have to be constantly on alert for when they come here, and they will come. Once they do go through here, then we can relax as they wont be back.

It is nice to get some of the older dogs out away from the young ones. They really enjoyed the walk also.

Morning and we are closing in on summer. Do you get snow in South Africa in winter? I always think of Africa as being near the equator, but it is a huge continent with mountainous areas. So some places must get snow.

Glad you enjoyed your walk with the pups. The improved weather here has made our walks much more pleasant.

Good evening everyone!

Today was a nice day with lots of sunshine. With winter closing in, it was nice to get out in the field and play with the pups. Elliot was having lots of fun, but Nikita is still new to the idea and stayed in my lap. I walk a lot here on the plot taking care of the chickens and other chores. My treadmill is just gathering dust so far this season, lol's.

Keep well everyone!

Hi friends today was a perfect weather day and I got to enjoy it at lunch with a friend I had not seen in 20 years. Then we walked the lake. I know I got at least 1.5 miles in. Pretty exciting.

I think I will try it again with Buddy next time.

The kids got me a Kindle for Mother's Day. It even talks to me. I am still hunting for all the right IP numbers, router numbers, DNS numbers etc. so I can hook it to my WIFI. I think I will have to write the instructions down. Anyway there is a ton of free classics on Amazon. I look forward to downloading my first book.

Hi Mutt Lovers! Long time no bark! I've been so crazy busy with this semester! Tomorrow is my last day of teaching, but then I have to grade all the last minute students' work! I've let my program get away from me and I eased out of exercising like I was. so, my goals will bring me back to exercise and walks with Jack!

I am always just struck by how much I love my dog! Sometimes he sits his 70 pound body on my lap and will give me just one little kiss. He always needs to be touching someone if we are lying down or even seated. He is needy and demanding, but also so sweet and so smart! I hope to get some new pics posted of him soon! Things will calm down after this week!

Well, nothing else going on except work! I'm slowly getting back into Zumba and belly dance. We have some major plumbing problems and the pu.plumber was supposed to come this AM, but didn't. He didn't call either. So, just waiting to see if he shows. I guess it is time for everything on this house to go! In the past year we had to put a new roof on, get a new heat pump, now a new storage tank for the well and I found that we follow right behind what my neighbor needs and she just had to get a new hot water heater, so I expect that will be our next thing to go! The joys of home ownership! But, I wouldn't want it any other way. I'm thrilled with our new heating and air system except it is a touch screen which in no way can be blind friendlied, but we had no idea how poorly our old one ran until we got this new one! We lvoe our new roof too!

OK, need to eat lunch and get a shower. At least I can shower!

How is the college search going? I myself now have another puppy to care for, lol's. We now have 10 dogs, 4 are geriatric and one is crippled. By these two are fully mature, nature will have reduced our numbers dramatically I expect.

Sorry, I've been away looking at colleges for my daughter and I forgot to set up the May cafe.

I have finals week this week and I'm getting ready for my next semester which starts on the 10th.
