Namaste! I just started Sparkpeople and I have friends in India and am trying to learn to cook traditional Indian foods. I know how to make cabbage curry or egg curry and roti and I like masoora daal and garlic naan bread. I'm not sure how to enter those calories in Sparkpeople. Also, am looking for recipes that are indian that have no dairy or wheat as I am doing a program that requires no grains or dairy...protein (not soy or starchy), veges and oil are all ok. Regardless of the program, I still want to also learn typical daily foods people eat in India...especially Northern like U.P or New Dehli tho I also have a friend in south India also. Also I am learning Hindi and about etiquette, manners, Bollywood, culture. So come say hi to me anytime. I am from Denver Colorado 44 years old and my birthday is Oct 3 1967 take care ram ram

my name is Jon, I work in Lansdale Pennsylvania which has a very large Indian and Bangla community I think I could really be a vegetarian if i ate indian food every day and I'd love to go to India and study ayurveda. Until I got reinvolved with my current girlfriend I really wanted to find myself a nice indian woman who could teach me more about the culture the food and take me to temple to learn more about the religion.

Hello! I am happy to be here!

I am 28 yr old south asian woman. single. very social. I had a tough time managing the loss of a loved one in June 2010, and gained 30 pounds over the last year as a way to cope with the pain. I now want to lose that protective covering.

I enjoy real conversations and real people. Talking to my friends; reading and writing in cafes and coffee shops; meditation; and moving my body. I am a vegetarian and like salads and fruits; but also like sweet flavors and carbs. :)

Want to be my buddy? We could be super helpful to each other if your motivations in life are service, being grounded, and are into spirituality. I need help increasing my protein intake without increasing the fat content; making exercise a habit; and cultivating interesting ways to cope with emotional distress and boredom.

Would love to hear from you! Message me.

Spark name: Foxside

Food you can't live without: It used to be bbq pork sandwiches, but I am back to being a vegetarian... so I'm not sure yet! Probably hummus.

Fruits or veggies which you love most: Mangos, most certainly! I can eat them non-stop. As far as veggies go, I have developed quite a love for eggplant. It is far more flexible an ingredient than I used to believe.

Favorite Spark feature: I'm new, so I am still trying to determine that. I like being able to track my food daily, but I am still entering in all of my foods... and I have a LOT of recipes

Five positive things about yourself:
1. I am a good student. When I set my mind to learning a new skill or discipline, I research, talk to experts, and really LISTEN to what they have to tell me.

2. I am an excellent cook.

3. In taking on this fitness journey, I am setting a good example for my son and for mother members of my community.

Can we stop at three?

Which exercise you love most: Tai Chi, so far, although Yoga is pretty darned interesting. (And INTENSE!)

******

Marital status: Married (with an anniversary in the near future!)

Children: One, but we have three dogs and three cats that we spoil as if they were our children.

*******
Starting wt: 284

Goal wt: 220 (I know that seems high, but I am a very broadly built man, and I stand 6'3". My doctor seems to think that 220 lbs. is a good goal weight if I can get my body fat percentage to be fairly low.)

Hi,Looking forward to eating nutritional Indian food which along with my fitness training will help me to loose weight.I weighed 83 kgs,now I am 77 kgs.I have started feeling great and positive after a long time.I read somewhere that 'Fitness is'nt fun until you are fit,but then it becomes a lot of fun'.How true.Though I have a long way to go before I reach my desired weight I have started feeling confident that I can do it.For the first time in a very long time I feel healthy and happy.Hope to hear from all soon. Bye.....

Hi. I am Maria I live in Sacramento Ca. My son has been making parathas for me but I cannot find the calories for them in the food lists. I really enjoy curry and the cauliflower- potato especially. Is there any where I can get a calorie count for them?? I went to a new local restaurant and it is going to be a favorite but I cannot find calories for all the items.
The local restaurant is Bombay Grill.

Welcome to the team . i know its hard to control the amount of food and to get right info and one size doesn't fit all . this is what i have learned till now . I had different relationships with food in different phases of life as far as i remember i was eating same amount and same type of food from childhood to the age of 35 but suddenly within short span of time of 3-4 yrs i gained about 25 kgs. and it took me next 2and half yrs to figure out what was wrong why i was gaining wt. it was my bodies reaction to the food which was different now.

i changed my way of eating and now i am sorted.what worked for me is increasing proteins and reducing the amount of simple carbs now i am loosing wt at a steady pace i do have my setbacks , like past few months a gained 2and half kgs but i know that i have been casual in my approach i am not exercising and too many social engagements where i cant control each and everything plus having both the kids at home elder one is having preparatory holidays for exams and younger one is as you know most of the time with me only so that means snacking too much but still i know i am in control. so basically my relationship with food is changed now .... its my friend rather than being enemy .
