Hi, Lisa Just noticed this thread. Welcome to the team! Interesting story and how fun...twins?! Thats so cool. Anyways, I'm a malayalee too!! Ask your fiance if he enjoys palappam and chicken curry?! Thats one of my favorites!! Every year, around Onam, we get out banana leaves and eat a whole meal in the old school traditional Kerala style. Its so fun (and easy clean-up too!) LOL. Well, let me know if there's a particular recipe you're looking for and I'll try to help as much as possible. Send me an email/comment anytime! -Rainey
Hi Lisa - welcome to the team! There is lots of great information on here - hopefully you will find what you are looking for! I am not from south India so definitely not an expert on cooking different varieties of south Indian cooking.

I introduced myself on the malayalee thread, but will introduce myself here as well.
I'm Lisa, a 45 y/o mother of 3 teenage girls (ages 19, 16, and 16-twins), and engaged to be married next fall to Santosh (also here on sparkpeople as THESANMAN). He is from Kerala, and I am a 7th generation native californian, of Italian and Portuguese decent. I teach Kindergarten (have been teaching for 21 years) and Santosh is a software engineer for a large company based in Chicago, IL. We enjoy golf, hiking, poker, movies, books books books, and Iyengar yoga (I am a substitute teacher for the latter at my gym, here in town). For years, I have loved cooking ( a passion inherited from my own mother) and I am now seeking to learn as much as I can about Indian food in general and specifically, South Indian cuisine.
