Welcome to the team, Janice! Your approach is a very good one. I've found it true for myself that taking small actions on a regular basis always wins out over trying to do it all at once, then getting overwhelmed by it all.

Congrats on the baby girl on the way!

Wishing you success! emoticon emoticon

Hi there! I m 52 yrs old, married to my wonderful husband and we have two adult boys, one baby girl on the way, so I am hear to get more organized about my weight, goals, and all around daily life. I need to lose 100 lbs. My health has been declining and my motivation is not too high due to lack of sleep, and aching all over, but I am hopeful and I can only do a little bit at a time considering my medical factor. So what I have decided is to form habits. On Spark People it is talked a lot about setting goals, but for me I need to form habits to get to my goals. It has been said that it takes 21 days to form a habit, but I was reading in the internet and said that that was a myth. Now they say that it can take up to 66 days more or less. Everybody is different. Because I have been sick for so long, I feel I have lost motivation and especially discipline as I never finish what I started, so this time I am going to go S-L-O-W, and hoping that this will work this time. I am never to give up, because giving up is on the weaker side. So wish me good luck.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Hello! I am the_little_lady. I am soooo glad I found you! It is kinda cute as I sometimes log in my activity as heavy housekeeping!

On top of being a contributing editor and freelance writer, I run a household of housemates. I do basically everything. One housemate is to do the garbage. I do it as it ends up like the leaning tower of Pisa. One housemate is to do the dishes. I do them as they are the leaning tower of Pisa. I do all of the cooking. The sweeper is my dance partner. The crockpot a god-send.

I cannot wait to be an active participant on this team. If you have any comments, I am all ears!

Thanks!

Hey Sheri, I understand. I have fibromyalgia and my partner struggles with schleraderma so keeping house can be tough. My in-laws are coming on the 2nd and we are hoping we can limit them to all but the extra rooms which are a mess! Her Mom is a neat nut even with the yard so we are trying hard to clean up! Wish us luck!

Hello and welcome to the team! The nutritarian approach to eating makes a lot of sense...eating the most nutrient rich foods. Having someone close going through a serious health crisis has got to be stressful, and I can see how your fitness routine had to take second place. Welcome to the team!

Hi! I am from Tacoma, WA and I decided that 2016 is my year to get fit and organized. I have been losing weight on SparkPeople since last Summer but decided to start two books by Gina Leeds to get my whole house and finances in order in a year. I got out of my fitness routine when my partner had open heart surgery unexpectedly last Fall. All my time was dedicated to helping her recover. Now I am getting back on track eating a nutritarian diet and exercising again.

Hi Sheri, Welcome to the team! Sounds like you do a good job with your home maintenance....seems like clutter likes to accumulate no matter how much effort we make to stay ahead of it. I've come to the conclusion it is a daily process to work on it a bit at a time.

Hope you have a nice visit with your parents tomorrow!

I am Sheri, 46 years young. I never used to have an organization issue. I had brain surgery 25 years ago and now having a brain injury, I struggle to stay organized. On top of that, I am disabled and limited in mobility. I do what I can but due to pain issues I am limited on how much I can lift, bend, reach etc. My home is nice but never clutter free. Being a crocheter, I always have a mound around me. I clean up and then it gets untidy again. I can't keep ahead of it. Or, perhaps, I am being too hard on myself. When my parents visit tomorrow, I will hear if it is cluttered or not.

Paula - I can relate. One reason I decided to start getting myself organized was so that if anything happened to me it wouldn't be such a mess for anyone else to deal with!

I need to also put some instructions in place for anyone who might have to help me take care of business if for instance I ended up in the hospital unexpectedly or something. These are the things that people who live alone have to at least "try" to plan for - the kind of stuff that usually falls to the spouse or significant other.

Hi Amy -- so glad to read your introduction. I'm pretty sure 2008 is the year I joined SP too...and it's grown to be an every day thing to come here and register my food and fitness on the trackers and check in on my teams.

We have two rescued dogs at our house, too -- and yes...they're pretty spoiled... emoticon

Congrats on the weight lost, and sounds like you're doing great on the de-cluttering. I've been working quite a bit lately trying to get rid of clothing I'll never use. At 62 yrs old, and being kind of a pack rat, it has accumulated in the 30 years we've lived in this house. DH's parents both died several years back and dealing with their estate and sale of their home was a revelation to me. I kept having the thought of our kids having to someday go through all our junk and decide what to do with it. emoticon emoticon

Hi team! I just joined this team and wanted to introduce myself. I have been on (and mostly off) of Sparks since 2008, and came back a month ago and am DETERMINED to stay and be more active on the site and in my efforts to get healthier and happier!

I am 48, live in Arkansas, been divorced for 16 yrs, have a son who's 24 and lives about an hour from me, and 2 dogs that I rescued who are very loved and spoiled.

Since coming back to Sparks I have lost 14.4 pounds, and I still have a long way to go to reach my goal...98.4 pounds to be exact!

I have also been working on de-cluttering my home. I have been removing at least 1 item per day from my house either by throwing it away, giving it to someone I know, or putting it in a box to donate to Goodwill. Along with this rule, if I bring anything new in (not including consumables like groceries, toiletries, etc) then I have to remove an item for each thing I add. I figured this team would help motivate me to keep working on getting rid of the junk that has accumulated over the last 12+ yrs since I bought my house!

Looking forward to getting to know ya'll! emoticon

Hi, and emoticon Deborah Lee! I've also found a great deal of help and support being a member of SparkPeople both for the great tools and nice and helpful friends I've met. So glad you've joined the team -- De-cluttering my home is an ongoing process. Hard to believe how much stuff can pile up over the years. We've lived in our current home over 30 years now, and gone through deaths of both DH's parents and taken more and more in. I'm working on letting go of things I don't want MY kids to have to deal with somewhere down the line. Are you a school teacher?

Hello and emoticon Beverly! Sounds like you've got a great de-cluttering opportunity with the new carpet. I did the same last summer when we got new kitchen counter tops. Had to pull all the stuff out anyway, and it was such a good opportunity to evaluate what I really use and what was just getting in the way.

Hello. My name is Beverly. I definitely can use this team. I hope I can get some decluttering done while losing weight. Right now our living room and bedroom are in shambles waiting for new carpet to come so I have a bunch of stuff her, there, and everywhere. My husband thought everything had to get moved before we even had it ordered and just moved it. So my plan is to declutter as I bring it back in the rooms. Anyway, hope this will help me with my goals. emoticon

Hey!

I truly belong here! I have the most organized mess in all of Florida! Lol. I need my house decent by the end of November. My daughter and grandson are moving here in January in order for her to study for her Phd.in social psychology. I'm going to need a psychologist with her moving here. Lol.

Decluttering is not my favorite thing to do, but if it keeps me active that's a good thing. How many pounds have you lost decluttering? really!

There's so much to do. I really don't know where to start. Any tips would be appreciated.
I know there are things I can get rid of, books I don't want or need, probably some craft supplies I will never need and someone else would like to have. There is a collection of glasswares that belonged to my mom I will ever, ever use. I can give them to the second hand store. They are not valuable. I have my grandson's toys that sit in his old room that are older than the hills. Lol. I need a shelf put in the hall closet. The kitchen is good. The bathrooms are good. The loft that acts like an attic is in desperate need of decluttering. I have aquariums that need removing. I don't use them any more.

After I declutter I can do a little redecorating, but until then it's organizing and throwing out that will take a priority.

Thanks for letting me share my mess! Ha!

I'm Deb. I'm trying to get back on track after a 3-year period where I basically gave up on myself. Yes, I had a lot of life changes (multiple deaths in my family including my mother) that I basically used as an excuse to check out on life. I let my house, my car, my body go to crap. I'm in the process of trying to start enjoying life again, getting involved in things that bring joy to me, and generally taking back control of my life. I'm looking forward to some challenges to add some structure and purpose to the areas in my life that I can control!

Welcome Jenny and Amanda!

AMANDA -- interesting comment about fitness and organization...I know for myself sometimes it seems to work out better to get my fitness in first, then I feel much more like doing my household chores. But...sometimes it doesn't work out just the way I'd like. emoticon

JEN -- I agree -- seems like when I'm accomplishing a lot on the clutter front is also when I'm being more vigilant about tracking my food and getting my fitness in.

So glad to have you both here! emoticon emoticon

Hi Amanda, and Hello Everyone! I'm Jen, and I am new here too. I know that there is a correlation between clutter and pounds and I am working on both. Love the threads on this team!

I was once a leader on this team and miss it terribly. I'm hoping to get back with some great tips and good advice.

Never mistake failure as final

Deciding what you want your life to be like is not hard. Deciding what you are willing to do and give up to get it, is the hard part.

I will do what I need to do in order to do what I want to do.

What you do and say is a reflection of who you are, so decide who you want to be and do it.

Hi! My name is Claire and I have been trying to get organized for...probably all my life! I'm much better than I was, but not where I want to be. Today I decided that I can only focus on one thing at a time. Thanks to my FitBit I'm on my way to developing a habit of 10K steps a day, with a two and a half week streak. Woo hoo! And as much as I'd like to control the eating, right now I need to focus on getting myself in a regular routine of decluttering, cleaning and making sure I have time for study on a regular basis. I think once I develop those habits, then I can work on the eating part. I've been beating myself up too much about not being able to do it all at once, and I don't think that's helpful!

Hi, my name is Dee and I have been a member of SP for a few years but was too busy to join many teams or to find ones that were active. I need help with staying accountable to lose weight and to declutter and organize my house. I agree with the comments that when I am not careful with what I eat, the more messy my house is. I really like the comments from the members here and hope to be able to gain----knowledge, not weight, as to how others overcome their problems.
I am wife, mother, grandmother and recently great grandmother. I have been employed over 2/3s of my life and am currently a County Commissioner, so still very mentally involved with community.
I joined your goals and plan to stay with them. Thank you.

Dee--youthful 70s

Welcome to this friendly group, Kelly! It's so true for me, too, that having clutter and mess around sometimes makes me wonder where to start, and then it's tempting not to get started at all. So glad you've joined us! emoticon

Hi Everyone!

I am Kelly and new to the team, but in need of this for a long time. I am married with no kids but a loving dog. I live in Edmonton, Canada and usually eat because I'm too stressed about the clutter and constant mess in my house. Sure hope to be motivated and get some tips to keep up any work I do accomplish and to begin tackling those dreaded "hoarder rooms"

I hope to meet new friends for weight loss as well!

Hi, Marleen! emoticon to the team! It's funny -- and I think someone mentioned it before here -- that it seems when I'm doing well with my food and exercise, my house also seems to be cleaner...which comes first? They just seem to go together.

Hi, I am new here.
I am not only overweight and unhealthy, my house is also a mess.
So I thought it would be a good idea not only to clean up my diet and do more exercise but also organise my livingspace.

So glad to have you here on the team, and great that you're joining the Amazing Race! I'm getting a bit of a late start because of several days of company and events, but plan to do some catchup tomorrow. I'm definitely going to have to modify some, too. emoticon

I actually joined this team a few weeks ago but got busy and did not get back to really get acquainted. I am back now. I just read the Amazing Race and I am hooked. The exercised is going to be a big challenge as I am trying to work with plantar fasciitis so can't do much walking and recovering from broken arm so doing things carefully. But I will count my PT exercises as exercise. So much to do so little time. Off to start!

Paula, my MIL's hobby was genealogy!!! There are about four huge boxes in our storage locker. You are so right about all of this! It is kind of a nightmare to me... I am getting through a lot of it but I still have to decide where the best place is for all that genealogy. And all those pictures that have to be passed down. LOL on us huh? Let's just keep smiling!

Christine....I can really identify with things inherited from relative's estates. We've just about handled the bulk of items from DH's parents....I'm now contemplating settling my Mom's estate when that time comes....hopefully not anytime soon...but she is 86 years old. And she has saved a LOT of stuff. Family stuff, genealogy records she's researched for multiple families -- her two parents, DH's two parents, photo albums....family heirlooms I think about it a lot when I wake up at 3 a.m. some mornings. We just about get our "stuff' in control...then we have to deal with what our relatives have saved. Kind of makes me think really hard about what I'm saving and if it will mean anything to my kids when i'm gone.

Hi Jackie! I agree! It is starting to come together, but since I used to have the other neighborhood gals ask me how did I keep my house so clean.... it has been very difficult to live in what I think of as CHAOS. "Can't have anybody over syndrome".LOL.

Thanks for the welcome. I am only prepared for my close friends right now. I inherited *all* of my MIL's photos and all the things that didn't sell at the estate sale plus more... emoticon
On top of that I also have all the stuff from my mom when she went into a home.Lord give me strength, I am still working on this. I am scanning the photos, BUT they are filling an entire armoire in the meantime. I work every day for at least 15 minutes.
