Hi. I am just learning about the medifast program. I ordered my food today so I haven't really started yet. I just talked with my coach. I have seen a lot of good results from his clients on Facebook. I have been a member of Sparkpeople for about 8 years so I like the idea of staying connected to other medifast losers with Sparkpeople.

Welcome khutchins! Glad to have you here! emoticon

My blood pressure is down too, so it works great for that as well as the weight loss, plus my diabetes is under control too!

You can do it!

Khutchin, you've got this! Congrats for getting started! I was taking two blood pressure pills daily. Started Jan 10th and immediately my blood pressure dropped. I stopped taking the pills and still monitor my blood pressure regularly because I couldn't believe how good the readings are. It was 100/70 this week-end. So, I know the plan will work for your blood pressure. Change your mindset. No more yo-yo dieting, this is the plan for you! No more cheating, there is such a variety of foods that you don't need to cheat.

Hello everyone! I am officially starting today. lots of weight to lose. lots of yo-yo dieting over the course of my life. I get discouraged easily and cheat a lot.
I have a vacation planned for July that I'd like to look and feel better for (better than I do now).
Plus I need my blood pressure to go down and I'd rather not go on BP meds.
I'm hoping my following folks on this team I can stay motivated and inspired.
Wish me luck!

Vicki, that is absolutely awesome! 19.7 lbs in three weeks! emoticon

Log in and visit with us daily. That's where I pull my motivation. I don't have a support system outside of this site so I'm here daily. I've been OP since January 10th and love the program. There has been times when I'm tired of it and feel like I need to quit but then I look back at how far I've come. I went from a size 16 to a size 10 since January. Still in the obese category but feeling pretty good. This is the smallest size I've ever been so I know the program works.

My loss is slow but consistent. I average 2 lbs a week. If you stick to the plan, it will work. There is no way you can continue on this plan and not lose.

Like you, I was considering the surgery. Many people around me was getting the sleeve or gastic bypass. I'm fearful of surgery so made one last commitment. I'm glad I did. My blood pressure is down (I was on two meds), my cholesterol is down and my blood sugar is down.

I'm rambling because I'm trying to talk myself into being successful today. Mother's Day equals chocolate to me and I'm craving chocolate. Just ate a MF chocolate mint bar but it didn't help.

Oh well......................it's a great program. Hang in there and scream if you need some help / support. We're here. A few people are on vacation so the boards are quiet this week-end. It'll pick up in a few days! But there are a few of us here so let us know what we can do to support you!

Hi everyone! My name is Vicki, I've been on Sparkpeople a long time, and have lost a considerable amount of weight several times, only to have most of it come back. I have managed to KEEP about 10 pounds total from coming back since starting. I left sparkpeople for a time and went to another site because my beachbody coach recommended it, the other site used "net calories" and I found that confusing. At any rate, I returned to sparkpeople, deciding I liked this site better.
I decided at the start of this year that I was fed up with the yo-yo pattern I've had for so long, and I looked into whether my insurance would cover weight loss surgery, surprisingly they did, but I didn't really WANT surgery, so I decided to give it one more try through diet and exercise, but basically gave myself a deadline to get under 200 pounds, the end of this year.
I seemed to have lost my enthusiasm for my old approach of just eating healthy and staying under my recommended calories (the level set by Sparkpeople), even though my intentions were good, I went from January-April without any real progress. I decided in April that what I was doing wasn't working. I belonged to the Y, but it was too far from my house to be practical for workouts (about 30 miles away), so I cancelled my membership and decided to join Snap Fitness, the people at Snap Fitness heard my story, about how I'd been exercising regularly for some time (just not a gym), but couldn't get the diet part of equation right. They recommended Medifast, and so I started it. I just finished up my third week, and so far I've lost 19.7 pounds. Keeping my fingers crossed that this continues to work for me. I know it will slow down, but I'm just praying that it doesn't stop, and that I don't lose steam like I have before.

Jesus died to set me free and its about time I let Him do it!

Hi Everyone!

I just ordered my food yesterday and I'm hoping to have by this weekend so I can start planning out my go forward with my coach. I'm happy I found this supportive and active board because I am terrified of going at this alone. I did MF once before around 3 years ago and because I didn't ask or request help I ended up failing. I am determined to not make that mistake again. I have a great coach, motivation, and hopefully I will be able to beat my shyness and participate in this community!

Hope you all have a great day and I look forward to supporting and being supported by you all!

Lost 20+ pounds on Medifast in 2010. I've tried multiple times to restart and I fail every time. I've got my meals in my TSFL cart (and more at home that I keep using here and there) and I'm debating over starting again. Trying to find whatever it was that kept me on plan in 2010. I haven't been able to find it since and I'm so discouraged. Now I see that there are no boards for support, but I found this one so here I am. Hoping this will be the encouragement I need.

Welcome Maydance! emoticon I'm glad your here and recommitting yourself to being healthier and dancing for you! You deserve it!

As for your birthday. I had mine in Jan. when I had 3 months under my belt, but I started this journey in October before Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years, and I have managed to stay on plan with no cheats this whole time. All I kept in mind was I was doing this for me, my treat, my gift, my reward, my cake was a new me, a happier me, a healthier me, and that I am worth every sacrifice I make in order to achieve this new me!

You are too! emoticon

I first tried Medifast 2 or 3 years ago. It worked really well. When I was feeling really good about my body, I got scared to feel that good. And I started stuffing myself. I have had many false restarts and times of just giving into the SAD. However, as of today I have committed to 45 days On Program. In 45 days I will have a chance to certify as a dance instructor in a technique that I love. And I am don't want to be sad doing this with 4o extra pounds around my middle. I don't want to be trying to certification in a physical art and thinking, yes but.... yes but this would be so much better if I was slimmer. So. I have actually recommitted to Medifast as of today and I am determined to stick with this for the next 45 days. See what happens. After the dance technique attempt to certify I will evaluate an reevaulate what I want for my body. But for NOW I am in.
I am already worried about surviving my birthday as far as food celebration goes. Any thoughts or ideas on that are welcome. :)

Nice to meet you all. I am really looking forwarding to having friends to get through my weight loss goals with. I want to lose 60 pounds, some of which I gained over the past 18 months due to workplace stress. I am ready to stop blaming and start recovering my body and spirit! Let's do this.

Welcome sugarcrane! emoticon As for the dairy/cheese its only approved ones, and yes it counts towards your lean and green. Look under the Medifast helps here where I wrote resources info, that will have more info on what is allowed and not, and how it's counted.

As for doing this for a month, then transitioning to a low calorie diet.....it will not work IMO. Reason is, Medifast is more than just low calorie, it's also low carb, sugar, etc. If followed correctly it puts you into ketosis which is where you will lose the weight if you stay in it. Once you add certain foods back in, you can lose that ketosis and stop losing the same way.,ask anyone here who has cheated even a little on this program, and you will see that it doesn't work.
Even when we reach our goal we will have to transition into a low carb diet for most of our lives to maintain. It's like with any thing, it's about learning to eat the right foods all the time to fuel your body. The longer your on this program the more you learn what's best for you too.

I am worth it!

Hi, I'm starting Medifast on Wednesday as I have been counting calories and working out for a month with no progress. A couple questions, the dairy, cheese and milk substitutes, do we get one of those a day or do they take the place of a healthy fat? Also I have been working out for about 2 months 5 times a week to T25 (Shaun T, HIT type workout) do I need to stop working out? I was hoping to just do MF for about 30 days then take a couple of weeks to transition back to a low calorie diet to see if I could lose something. I'm not sure if I can sustain MF for months till I lose my total goal of 50 lbs, With an end in site I think I'll be able to be true to the diet but to go on indefinitely has me scared.

Hi everyone. New to Spark and on the medifast program for a second time. Lost 70 pounds my first time around back in 2008 and back again to try again. Same story as alot of others where you don't change your lifestyle and the weight creeps back on. I know the program works and I felt great so I am trying it once again. Hoping for support as I know that it helped so much the first time around.

Hi Suzy, welcome to the group!

I don't think the coffee is your problem. I have a (large) mug 3-4 times per week with a bit of sugar-free syrup or creamer (1 condiment). Check the nutrition label to make sure that it is no-carb though. One of the rudest discoveries for me was that something that is sugar-free can still have carbs. Before starting this diet I counted carbs and sugar as pretty much the same.

The water retention could certainly be problem, but I see a much bigger problem with your lean and green. You NEED to get the full recommended amount. Otherwise, you will lose muscle as well as fat and your metabolism will tank, then, not only will you not lose, that eating plan is not sustainable and you will start to eat normally again and the pounds will fly back on (and bring some friends!). You don't want that.

You're can spread your green out throughout the day if you have trouble eating that amount of vegetables at once (but trust me, at some point you'll eat all your veggies and look for more!) for instance, do a soup and put in 1/2 cup of broccoli, do a shake and put in 1/2 cup of spinach (that would only be 1/2 of one green, so a full cup is better but sometimes people don't like that much spinach).

Broccoli and spinach are my go-tos, because they taste great and are easy to work with both fresh and frozen, but you can also branch out and experiment. I've been doing some fun recipes with cauliflower from Sandy's Kitchen Adventures (watch the condiments and extras with her!).

When I was first starting I found it easiest to eat roughly the same thing every day. One of my other go-tos is chicken breast with frozen broccoli. Grill or bake the chicken, microwave the broccoli, and in 20 minutes you're sitting down with a decent meal.

Welcome Suzy! emoticon

As for your question, it's really important to get your full lean and greens in every day. It makes a huge difference. You won't lose as much as if you followed plan to a T, meaning 1 1/2 cups of low/carbs veggies, or 3 cups of the lowest veggies a day. So work on that part, and getting all your water in. Make sure also if your using a creamer for your coffee it's on the approved list, and count it as a condiment too. I don't know about the coffee, I don't drink it, but I know others here do, and I hope they can chime in.
Good luck on your journey, you can do it!! emoticon

Welcome, Suzy! What an awesome first week! Water retention could be a problem at that time of the month. I've learned to drink my coffee black on this plan. Try eliminating that for a while. I know it's important to get the right amount of the L&G, I'm using the MF L&G so I no experience with the amounts. However, there are lots of 'experts' on our daily thread that could give you advice. Make sure to post there, as well.

Don't get discouraged! You will see a loss this week!

Hello everyone. I am brand new to MF. I started on 4/8 and lost 6 lbs my first week. I'm into my second week and have somehow gained 1 lb so I am feeling a little discouraged, especially since I have been trying so hard to follow the plan. I follow the plan 100% with the exception of 16 oz of coffee daily with a small amount of sugar free creamer (low carb). This didn't seem to make any difference my first week so I thought it was ok. I'm now wondering if that could be part of the problem. The only other thing is I don't think I always have the full lean & green meal as I will sometimes only have a 1/2 cup of one vegetable. As a female, I'm also wondering if water retention could be playing a role at certain times of the month. Anyway, I'm looking to lose about 80 lbs in total and would appreciate any guidance/advice you may have! Good luck to everyone!

Hello everyone! In 2012 I lost 160 pounds in 11 months on Medifast. Less than one month after reaching my goal, I was promoted at work. I didn't do well with the stress of a completely new and overwhelming and very active position and didn't care what I ate. I was just trying to mentally survive. Well I'm here because after stupidly gaining back all but 40 pounds, I'm determined to go back and do what I know works and take off this weight FOR GOOD (hello transition!). I love Medifast! I love the simplicity of it, the strictness, and the rapid results which are so encouraging. I'm a big believer in being 100% OP. I believe this strengthens my resolve. I miss the old MyMedifast community (what's up with that?) and I know that support and encouragement give-and-take in this process is soooo important. My goal is to lose 112 pounds.

This is my 5th day and I've lost 11 pounds and feel great!

Catlaugh - Welcome, I'm sure that you will succeed this time as well. I miss the old Medifast site also. It was a good place to meet people online and compare notes. This team is just as good!

Hey everyone! I am new to sparkpeople and Medifast. I started Medifast Monday, so on day 3 right now. I am excited, but nervous. Hoping that this will be a diet I can not only stick to but one that works. I am tired of being fat and tired of being depressed about being fat. So glad I found this page, b/c I know that I will need support and this seems a great place to get some.

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum. I started on medifast on 3/10/15 and I am currently down 15pounds a month later. I will begin to incorporate more exercise into my routine this week. I have mostly stayed OP with a couple exceptions. My goal for the 2nd month is to stay 100% OP.

Hi everyone! I'm so excited to find this group. I started Medifast/Take Shape for Life in October 2013 and lost 100 of the 165 pounds I needed to lose. My original goal was to thin down for a trip last summer, and unfortunately since the trip I've thrown caution to the wind and gained about half the weight back. Now I'm finally feeling ready to get back on plan and lose the rest! It has been hard trying to reboot without the support I used to get through the old Medifast website, so I'm hoping to get help and provide support to others through this forum. I know the plan works... I've just got to work the plan! :)

Welcome Kelley!

The first few days on Medifast are exciting but sometimes really challenging too so let us know if you need any help.

I gained a lot of my weight initially because I was always "keeping up" with a the current BF. Its always a reminder that guys have more muscle mass / weigh more / and are usually taller this will mean they can always eat more and we do not and cannot eat like that.

Right now I am single which is good and bad. But the good part is when I eat its just for me and its much easier to keep portions in check.

Maintaining Weight is Hard.
Staying Overweight is Hard.

Welcome Kelley!

I know exactly what you mean about bf/dh being okay with you not eating what they eat. My husband is always wanted to get an ice cream cone or a taco and I tell him to go ahead, but none for me thanks and half the time then he doesn't but he's all sad about it, so then I go ahead and eat with him and then I'm all sad about it.

One thing that I keep reminding myself though is that I'm smaller than him! I'm 5'4 and he's 6' so we SHOULD be eating different amounts! A healthy weight for him is around 200, that is NOT healthy for me!

Hi Everyone,

New to the team and Day 1 as a Medifast newbie. This forum has already been SO helpful for me the last couple of weeks while I did my homework on Medifast and picked my first meal order. A bit of history: I lost a significant amount of post-baby weight using South Beach Diet and exercise 10 years ago. I moved in with my boyfriend a few years ago and we now have a VERY busy blended family life. It leaves us eating out often and eating TOO well at home when we cook. Our busy home and kid schedule together has also meant my old regular workout schedule is nearly impossible. Add to that a new job that is often entirely sedentary, and I'm now facing a 25 pound weight gain from the last few years. Looking to break some bad habits, convince my BF to be ok with my not eating/drinking everything he eats/drinks (this will be my biggest obstacle), and to drop 20. Two gals at work started Medifast this year, and they look great and love the plan! It will be great to have some local support. I'm looking forward to using the forum here to keep me informed and motivated too. You've been such a big help already!

Welcome Kaye and Nymbis!

This group is great, it's really helping me to re-energize my focus in staying 100% OP (day 2!) I've been on the plan for a long time (2 years maybe? Could it BE that long!) but I keep hitting short-term goals (wedding, vacation, etc...) and going half off plan for a couple months. Just long enough that I don't lose any weight, maybe gain back 5-10, get frustrated, think about giving up, decide to re-dedicate myself, and the cycle starts again...

Kaye, I agree that the plan gets lonely, even with my coach I don't really feel much support. Sometimes I think my coach would be perfectly happy if I kept coming in (and paying!) forever. I don't know anyone else IRL who is doing the plan, so I've been loving this group.

You did awesome from Oct to Dec. I'm glad you're back. I checked out your Spark page. Your boys are great! What a fun group of boys. It's nice they're so close in age. Especially nice when they're your grandchildren.

Stay strong and stay OP..............you need all the energy that you can get to keep up with your grandchildren.

Welcome Kayegurl - I think this board is a great mix of inspiration and trouble shooting and we have grown with a lot of new members in the last month.

I honestly attribute this board to keeping me OP so many times.

So welcome aboard, please come post on monthly chat as that is where most of the 'action' happens.

Hi, I Started Medifast through a great coach the end of October. By Christmas Day I had gone from 196 down to 163 but then decided to rest and enjoy the Holiday. That started a yo-yo of try and fails to restart. Finally, this last Wednesday the slate started clean and from 176 I am today 170. I feel like the Facebook boards are just meant for coaches announcing their new clients and not for discussion, at least the ones I see. I really need to hear people's struggles and wins. This gets really lonely. I will go back to weekly weigh ins after week one and can't wait to see that 120 ~ hoping before June's out. Have a great day!

Good morning, Team!

I'm new to Medifast. Started Sunday so day 3.

I felt prepared as I've been a member of Sparkpeople and knew there was lots of info available so I read alot on this forum prior to starting. I made notes of tips that had been shared which has already helped. I'm happy to say I haven't struggled with the taste of the various products I've tried so far which is encouraging! The other thing I'm enjoying is not thinking about what I'm going to eat as I just plan it out the night before and prepare as much as I can ahead of time. I look forward to getting to know you all on the monthly chat! emoticon

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. I know they say weighing yourself everyday is not the best because of the possible disappointment of gaining a pound but I'm addicted! I guess because I'm just starting out. I'm just so happy I'm down 4 pounds after 2 days. I'm determined to stick to the plan and lose this weight for good! Have a great day everyone!!! emoticon

Welcome Vina! emoticon Good start, you can do this! If your going to be a daily weigher like me, just realize your going to go up and down throughout the week, but ultimately go down in the end. I just mention this so you will not get discouraged if you gain one day. I know I did at first, but I learned this was normal. Stick to plan and you will do great!

Hiii all! Today is my first day on SparkPeople and my second day on Medifast. All kinds of emotions are running through me as I finally feel like I am taking control of my health. I'm 27 years old, 5'0, and 224 pounds. I've been battling with my weight for as long as I can remember. My goal is to lose 45 pounds. I started Medifast yesterday and it actually went well. I, surprisingly, wasn't hungry as I made sure I ate every 2 and a half hrs and drank 70oz of water yesterday. Today I woke up and I weighed 221 pounds. I am excited! At this point any pound lost is a cause for celebration lol. I am excited to continue using Medifast and lose as much weight as possible especially for my birthday which is coming up soon (April 23rd). Any support whatsoever would be soooo greatly appreciated! Thank you!

~Vina

Hi everyone, I've been on medifast forever, I think. I've lost about 60 pounds on it (up 10 right now though, so maybe only 50 total) and been very happy, but I'm really struggling with my motivation right now. I have a counselor I like well enough, I'm just not sure how much having a counselor helps, really. I do think the "official" weigh in every week helps, but I go in after work, so it's always a pound or two up from my weigh in that morning which is frustrating.

I have about 45 pounds to go, and tend to have one or two good weeks where I lose 4-6 pounds, then one bad week when I put it all back. I am determined to get to goal this year, but then we have another potluck or fancy work dinner or staff meeting with boxes of donuts and I get stuck right back to square one.

So, I'm here for motivation, accountability, and hopefully, success!

Kristina

Goal: 145
Half marathon under 2 hours
10k under 55 minutes.

Lets get this done.

Hello all
Just started medifast a week ago. Had some success a few years ago but since have gained it back. Glad I found this group. There wasn't much support out there the first time I tried it. Hoping for better luck this time. emoticon

I just started back on the Medifast Program today. I loss 50 lbs. the first time I did the program in 2011. I stayed with medifast for 2 years until 2013. I just regained the weight back so I am starting fresh today and it's been a good on plan day so far. I don't want to make the same mistakes that I did in the past. I always tracked on Sparkspeople and I am glad that I found this group.

Hello all!! I am just finishing my vacation and have my month's box of Medifast waiting for me at home---I'll be starting on Monday!

I am so happy to find a positive team to join for support, and I hope I can give support too...I've lost weight before but after struggling this last year decided to do something that will fit with my busy lifestyle and be healthy too.

So see you all in a couple days, and thank you for being here!

I am on a journey and won't stop until I get to the end of it, because why not, right?

Month 1--24.2 lbs Month 2--17.4 lbs (41.6) Month 3--7 lbs (48.6)(2 weeks of stomach flu!)

Started Medifast in August of last year. Went through the holidays maintaining my weightloss but have had a hard time getting back on program full-time. Doing a great job of maintaining a 44# weightloss but ready to get going again towards my goals!!

Welcome, Rochelle! I've found lots of support on this site and I know you will as well!
Congrats on your MF start!

I got held up in a meeting tonight and missed getting my last meal on time. I've been doing every 2 hours. I went 4 hours tonight. Got home and realized I had extra meals in my bag. Oh well, I survived and got all my meals in.

Hope everyone has a great OP night!
