Hi I am new to this group. Started Medifast August 8. I am down 10.8 pounds so far. Happy with my progress, even though it seems slower than a lot of folks here. I have a few days to go to finish my first month and I hope to be down 12 pounds. :)

Hi everyone! I'm Renee. I'm on week two of Medifast and so far have lost 11.1 pounds! I have about 100 pounds to lose so this is going to be a long-term program for me. I really want to be down under 200 pounds before my 30th birthday, which is September 30 2015. I'll be blogging about my progress but hope to be active on this board as well!

Hello all - I'm new here, but have been on Medifast for about 7 weeks now. I learned about it through my doctor after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. It is my goal to reverse my diabetes through weight loss and exercise, and while I have a lot of weight to lose, I know I can do it. I have a great doctor and health coach who text me every week, but it would be nice to have some pals that are going through the same thing right now. :)

Hello! I began my TSFL/Medifast journey on 12/27/13 with 51 pounds to lose. I have 15 pounds to go until I reach my goal weight which I hope happens during the Summer. I have a great health coach and know several people who lost and have maintained using this program which gave me hope. I need the coaching and support which is something I have never had before. I also had an exercise program that I enjoy in place before I started which is also a new thing for me.

I don't know if this group has any people on it that are in transition or maintenance which is something I am especially interested in finding support for. My plan, once I am able, is to not buy any of the Medifast food again. The bars and crunchers are very convenient while on the go but I would rather plan ahead and buy real food for meals and snacks. I don't like the artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols used in many of their products though I understand why they use them for the weight loss part of the program. If optimal health is the goal why use artificial sweeteners?

Are there any of you in this forum who are in Maintenance? I just received the information to "bone up" on prior to reaching my goal but I know I will have a million questions. My health coach still uses Medifast food which I am sure they are encouraged to do. I want to end up eating 100% "real food". I know it will take planning and more shopping but it will hopefully get easier and more automatic with time.

I wish everyone great success on this program. It is a life-changer so far for me.

I lost another 1.5 lbs., in spite of all the wining & dining we did this week in celebration of our 30th wedding anniversary. My stomach is starting to flatten out too!

Hi Kate and Lisa! I am still doing reasonably well on MF. Learning to love (even more) Greek food when I eat at restaurants...seems like they are the easiest places to eat out. How are you doing?

Heloo!

I started MF in April (1st timer) and have lost 17 lbs so far! It has really not been as hard as I thought it would be. I have quite a bit to go -- about 130 lbs. Would love to be part of a vibrant support group. emoticon

Hi Valerie - I have the same situation of gaining weight when I try to eat what my husband eats. He's 6'0 and I'm 5'5, so you can see that's not going to work for me! He loves to eat out, and my challenge is finding a lean + green item on the menu. Also, had to tell him - we CANNOT go out to eat 2 times in one day - ever!

Here's one bit I found: (this is copied and pasted)

I could never really get a taste for the Cream of Broccoli soup, even when I tried adding 1/2 cup of cooked broccoli to it. So instead, I make Soup Chips out of it. Just mix the powdered soup with 3 Tbsp of water to make a smooth paste. I like to add a tsp of yellow mustard... seems to make them crispier. Then spray a glass dish or Corelle plate with Pam. Spread the batter on it as thin as possible. Microwave for 2 minutes and if it is solid enough, flip it with a spatula (if not, cook 30 more seconds, then flip). Then cook for 30 seconds, checking each time until it is somewhat browned but not burned. Let cool completely and break into chips. These are great with a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese as a "dip." (ETA: the soup chips are much easier to make if you use parchment paper on the plate instead of Pam! No sticking!)

My very favorite soup recipe of all time came from this blog. When I was a kid I always liked having a grilled cheese sandwich with a bowl of tomato soup. That's what this reminds me of, and it is quite filling!

Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Mix 1 packet Cream of Tomato soup with 1/4 cup Egg Beaters. The original recipe adds 2T salsa, but I leave that out. I add 1 Tbsp water instead. Pour this mixture into a preheated sandwich maker (4 little triangles), shut, and cook until done. Remove to a plate. Take 1 slice of fat free American cheese, cut it in half, and put each half between 2 triangles to make sandwiches. The cheese can be counted as your optional snack, according to Nutrition Support, although this is not 'recommended.' Subtract the Egg Beaters from your Lean.

You can also make flatbread out of the Cream of Tomato soup (and maybe from the Cream of Chicken, too, although I have not tried it). I found this recipe on the Medifast support boards and apparently it has been around for a long time. This large piece of flatbread is firm yet soft and can be eaten plain, topped with a portion of cheese from your Lean, used as a pizza crust, or spread with Laughing Cow cheese. You could also use it to make a veggie wrap with some of your Green portion and a bit of on-plan dressing.

Flatbread

In a bowl, mix 1 packet of Cream of Tomato soup, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 2 Tbsp Egg Beaters, and 2 Tbsp water. Spread this batter onto parchment paper, making a circle about 1/4" thick. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

There are some 'medifast hacks' out there (recipes where you can use soup to make crackers and a few other things. Do a little Google searching and hopefully you can use them up.

I'm Emily from St.Louis. I have 4 daughters Skye 14 Jacey 13 Raina 7 and Kamryn 3. I'm a dog groomer, so with work and 4 girls, I stay BUSY! Last month my daughters equestrian trainer hooked me up with medifast. HOWEVER, I only got 2 weeks worth for 5&1, and the rest is all soup! I am on the go so much, I am REALLY DESPERATELY looking into finding somebody that would trade me all my soup for ready-to-eat stuff. I am not a picky eater, I can eat any of it, but I can't do soup 4-5 times a day! :( I can't afford to order another months worth just yet, so I'm desperate, I loved my 2 weeks on it!! Anybody out there have any ideas for me??

Michele, that's exactly how I decided to try MF! I'm 54, a type 1 diabetic, and felt I had done everything possible to lose. I gave myself a month and lost three pounds the first week, and four the second. From there, it was easy to stay committed and I quickly lost 60 pounds.

But here's the catch! I hadn't quite reached my goal but I was feeling good and looked so much better. I had to have a major spinal reconstruction surgery, so I even took my MF food to the hospital to stay on plan. However, the food simply didn't appeal to me right after surgery and I struggled to stay focused. My exercise routine dropped off. I gained a few pounds.

Then, I was sidelined from exercising with a foot injury for nearly a year. Realizing I had gained back about 30 pounds put me in a very upsetting place, so I decided I had to get back 100%. I did my 'old' hike and blew out my knee, learning I've got arthritis in both. They've never bothered me before but I suspect the lack of exercise and extra 30 pounds are showing me where the problem lies.

And, even though I'm 'mostly' back on plan foodwise (finding dinner really hard to be strict enough with), I'm not losing any weight. This has been going on since January so what I've learned is this: yes, your body definitely becomes accustomed to less food and for me, becomes very resistant to losing again.

So last week I've started walking again--baby steps! Only a half mile at a time and on flat, level ground. I need to get real with myself about the dinners and embrace the L&G more fully, instead of trying to eat what my family is eating.

I can tell you this: the plan absolutely works if you work it. Losing weight is the easy part, keeping it off is the challenge. Your blood sugar will love the plan (are you on insulin? Type 1 or 2?), be prepared for low blood sugar if you're on insulin. I started MF mostly to improve the way I looked but was stunned at how good I felt with less weight.

I'm at the point where I need to lose about 40 pounds so hopefully we'll all be on this journey together!

Valerie

HI I am Michele and my doctor suggested that I try Medifast to address my diabetes.. I have tried everything else...veganism, low carb, moderation, pale and have had no success in losing weight. My doctor thinks I need a "reset" so I am giving it a month, no cheating, and hope for some success. I am in my mid 50s and have two lovely children! My goal is to lose 45lbs.

Hey, my name is Shaina. I have been on medifast for 5 months now and have lost 44 pounds. I have 16 left to lose and am starting to have a hard time staying on plan. I feel like I have gotten comfortable with my new weight, but really want to finish my total goal and learn a new lifestyle. I go to the center and am doing the counseling and that is great! I love this program and can't wait to meet my final goal!

Hi everyone,
I started MF 2 full weeks ago and have lost 8 lbs following the 4&2 plan. I'm pretty active as I'm an ICU nurse and found the 5&1 plan simply wasn't enough calories. My total goal is to lose 50 lbs. I haven't been as perfect this week due to a variety of factors but still lost. I'm looking to start walking and gradually adding in cardio later this week as I also had a medical reason to stop exercising for a few weeks (it was good timing with the beginning of MF anyway). I'm being more creative with MF meals and I've found a ton of great ideas on Pinterest.

Hello all!

I am a law student in Boston MA and it has been hard to fit healthy choices into my routine... especially during weeks where I have a lot of work to do and not enough time for sleep!
I have set a goal of getting from 142-128 by April 8th!
I am looking forward to sharing tips and trouble shooting with all of you!

Welcome!

Holly, the program is obviously fairly restrictive but one of the best things about it is how 'mindless' it makes choosing food. Since you don't have to spend a lot of time planning, shopping, chopping, or prepping food, you'll have plenty of time to be mentally preparing yourself for your management plan after the weight comes off.

I'm Holly! I've been researching, researching, researching, and I will be ordering Medifast this week sometime. I am 24 years old and I have around 70 lbs to lose. I'm a survivor of anorexia that went WAY off track once I started eating a little over 6 years ago. I have a hard time dieting because I want to start restricting food again. I'm hoping the structure of Medifast and having it laid out for me will help! Hoping to eventually learn a healthier way to deal with food!

Hi everyone! I'm back. I was on Medifast and weighing in at a center about 9 months ago. I found myself at a stage where I wasn't focused, I wasn't following the plan, and wasn't losing so I quit for a while and left this team. Well, now that I have that done with, I'm back. I'm not using a center this time, I'm using TSFL with a coach, which you may know goes hand-in-hand with Medifast. I started last Thursday and so far so good. I love the coaching aspect, it's so much more than I thought it would be. Makes me wonder if the SP coaching aspect is the same? I'm very motivated to finish this once and for all!!

Hi; I'm starting medifast in a few days and decided to include spark people as part of my support group. Glad to see that there are people who are on it. Looking forward to finding out what is going on with all of you. Good Luck to you and to me too.

Julie, this will be the best Valentine you can give yourself!

Believe me, the year is going to fly by (I don't know how old you are, but I know the older I get the faster the years are moving!), and NEXT Valentine's Day you'll marvel that you've stuck with the plan, and that 100 pounds will likely be GONE!

I'm struggling big time right now. I re-started on January 1 and while I'll see a 2-pound loss one week, it'll be gone the following. I refused to lose heart though, I know this plan works. I think my body is just screwing with me right now, saying, "Yeah; you easily dropped that 60 pounds on MF, but now we'll show you who's boss" (those were the fat cells mocking me).

Just finished some good stretching exercises; I'm trying to get back to the exercise plan I was religiously following last year. For three years I hiked 2.5 miles around a lake three mornings a week. I'll tell you one thing I've learned: it takes quite awhile to get in shape, but barely any time to get out of shape!

Welcome Pam! I am just starting this myself with 100 lbs to lose. I've decided to start my journey after my cruise in 2 weeks. So, I think my official start day will be on Valentines Day. Somehow, that seems SO appropriate emoticon . It would be nice to have a buddy here, as it didn't really look like there was much communication taking place on the Medifast boards. I would love to be your buddy through the upcoming months on this journey!

Hi!

I'm new to Spark & Medifast. I am doing the 5 and 1 program through Take Shape for Life. My daughter is my health coach. I noticed they did not have any message boards for users to meet so I'm glad I found Spark. I had been on depression medications for over 13 years. I was, or the doctor had me, convinced that it was something I'd need for the rest of my life. After putting on over 70lbs & not being able to really have fun with my kids, I decided to try this. I have tried so many other diets but I honestly think the meds just made it impossible & I tanked each time. This time I am ready to give it my all! Here goes nothing!

Welcome!
Don't worry; the food is not so great you'll be bingeing on it. : )

And it does become quite edible. Even if you don't like something at first, give it a try a week or so later, as your tastes really do change as you get away from the foods you've been eating.

Do a tiny bit of Googling; one good search is "what I wish I knew before starting Medifast" or something similar. There are lots of tiny things you can do to add variation to the foods. I find a dash of cinnamon in the oatmeal goes a long way, or using a little sugar free Torani or DaVinci flavored syrups in place of some of the water in shakes, pudding, or oatmeal. Pretzels and bars are convenient on-the-go chow, but be careful with the bars, as they contain Maltitol, which can cause gas in some (I also don't eat them because they're too sweet for me).

Hi, today is my first day ever of Medifast! I am 40, a single (divorced) mom with 4 busy kids, and i should weigh about 50 - 60lbs less than i do now. I've done South Beach in the past, with a degree of success, but our schedule this year would make it a struggle. That's why i have high hopes for Medifast, because so much of it can be eaten "on the go", and/or with minimal preparation. I am a little worried about how the food will taste - i dont want it to be great, just edible, lol. If it was too delicious, i would want more, so i am better off with it tasting bland or just passable. I just had a Cinnamon Roll Crunch bar for breakfast, and my gosh it is so sweet! Going to take getting used to. Best of luck to everyone! :-)

Oh boy, can I relate!
After losing 60 pounds a bit over a year ago, I was through the roof with confidence! My closet went from lots of black and mostly solid colors to a riot of patterns.

Now, with 30 pounds back, I told my husband I wish I could just go into hiding for the next six months while I get back on track. I feel like I look foolish in my (too tight!), colorful, patterned clothes. I actually bought a skirt today in size XL! I bought my smallest ever pair of jeans--size 10!--after losing! and I still had about 20 pounds to go.

So, I'm remembering how much easier my body moved with less weight, and lusting after all the cute clothes I have. I'm reminding myself of how committed I was and therefore, how great and quick my results were.

I can do nothing, and the next six months will fly by.
Or, I can stay on plan, and the next six months will fly by, and I should be at least 30 pounds slimmer!

Hi! My Name is Jessica & this is my second time on Medifast. The first time I did it was before I had kids & it worked great! However, once I got down to a weight where I felt comfortable, I stopped trying & by the end of the summer had gained it alllll back. Then I got pregnant & after 2 kids my weight had ballooned up to 226lbs @5ft6. Im 33 yrs old and I feel like my true self is lost under all of this fat. I used to be out going and fearless when it came to meeting new people etc. Now, I would rather stay at home in my sweats than go out and have to get dressed... oye. So, for the first time this summer I resigned to the fact that I am just a fat girl now, and that I should just get used to it. BAD idea. Now I am having such a hard time getting into the idea of losing weight. It's like I forgot what it feels like to feel pretty... any way, sob story OVER. I started medifast again today and REALLY hope I can stick with it long enough to see some results. I think if I see results and start to feel pretty again, that maybe I can find that motivation...

wow. sorry. just re-read this and BOY does it sound depressing! Ready to change all of that now!!

Hi, I'm 20 days into my first (and hopefully only!) medifast journey. I'm doing Medifast through a center and I have found it really motivating to have someone to be accountable to. So far I've lost 9 pounds, which I'm pretty happy with! I know it would be more but I was a cheater peter pumpkin eater on Christmas (like, whoa) so, that said, I'm committed and have been having a good run! Good luck everyone! emoticon

Hi Mickie! Can't say I'm glad to see you back here :) but nice to 'see' a familiar face.

I've been doing a lot of soul searching as to why I let myself slip up, when I vowed I wouldn't.

But, no sense in whining about where I am right now. I'm back at it and even though last night was my monthly Bunco night with gal pals, I stuck with the plan! I'm on my fourth straight day of being 100% OP and even though that's a small success, it's certainly better than how things have been lately.

Hi all,

I've been a member and a regular poster on this team before.

I reached my goal weight with Medifast almost 2 years ago (end of March).

Slowly (sort of), in spurts, I've gained a few pounds at a time until I'm up 20 pounds from where I would like to be. I allowed carbs and starches back in my diet that had no business being there.

So…I ordered Medifast before Thanksgiving (and a trip to NYC) to help with portion, carb, and calorie control through the holidays. I have basically maintained over 2 months, but it is time to get off what I gained before I'm back where I started.

Yesterday I declared I could no longer pretend I was a maintainer, and I re-entered the world of active loss. I had my first, full, official 5&1 day, and today is Day 2.

I will follow the 5&1 until I'm back at my goal weight. And I know how to better approach transition and maintenance this time so I don't go through this again.

I recognize Valerie - Hi!

Looking forward to the journey….

Mickie

Hi, I'm Connie and I'm starting Medifast again. First time was several years ago when I lost 40 pounds. I've only gained back 10, but need to get rid of 20 to reach my goal. New batch of MF was delivered today and I will shop for the Lean and Green tomorrow.

I wanted to share a couple resources, in case anyone is feeling the financial pinch of MF.

In addition to using MF foods, I also buy a few products from Kay's Naturals (I like the pretzels way better than MF) and Wonder Slim (LOVE their pancakes and the oatmeal is really great). Both of these companies have periodic sales which make them a much better choice for me. Nutritionally, they're almost identical to MF.

There's no time like a new year to make new changes!

Yesterday was a perfect MF day for me; the first in a very, very long time!
So, with one day down, I'm motivated to make it through today. I'm reminding myself of the commitment I had back a couple years ago when I did so well. I know it's going to be harder this time, so I want to make it the last time that I lose weight.

I encourage everyone to think about how quickly a year flies by. Doesn't it seem like you were just putting away those holiday decorations, and here we are again? Next year, when I'm saying to myself, 'Man, that was a fast year!' I'll also be able to say, 'And I stayed with my food plan!'

Hello,

I'm Leila, and I'm about to start my second go around with MF. I started for the first time last spring. I stuck with it for awhile, and managed to lose about 40 pounds. I saw Onderland for the first time in years, and it was great, but then I started to lose focus, and stressing about school didn't help any, and in the second half of the year I unfortunately gained back around 15 pounds.

Now I'm ready to get back on track, and have ordered my first new batch of MF foods. I know it's a bit of a cliche, starting again with the new year, but hey, I'm feeling motivated, and I'm going to take advantage of that to get the ball rolling (again)!

Trying to get to a skinnier me with a Ph.D.

Hi Valerie,
Thank you so much for the welcomed advice! I think you are right and I will take your advice and just try to eat clean and keep the exercise up. I always drink tons of water and don't like much else to drink.

That is fabulous that you lost 60 lbs. I think you have done very well, considering the surgery and all, in only gaining back 25 lbs in one year! I did 4 rounds on prescription hCG while doing 500 calories over the course of 8 months (with breaks as scheduled) and lost 45 lbs. Then, due to menopausal, etc. issues, I could not continue. I was in pain and very frustrated and really got derailed. I ended up gaining over 50 lbs in 6 months. So, considering that, I think you have done very well maintaining the majority of your loss! emoticon .

It does seem that the losses occur quickly with MF, if a person stays on plan. I know that I can do this. So, I plan on trying to discover what my triggers are, deal with the emotions, etc. and really preplan and concentrate on the transition and maintenance part of it!
