Running would be such a great exercise for someone who travels a lot for work, because you really can do it anywhere. Many hotels are starting to offer morning runs and running stores usually get together for group runs a couple times a week, that has been my experience that you can join in and be welcomed (Running Room meets every Wednesday evening and Sunday morning). So there are even some opportunities to go group running if you feel more secure in a strange area.
If you do get to the point in your training that you want to give up, come to the boards. There are many people who have struggled along the way (myself included), and the support and advise are invaluable. We can help you around the obstacles!
to the team and running. It's great that you are interested in running. You can become a runner. The only thing that makes those people runners is that they run. I started running a year ago with the 5k your way program. Before that never ran, never liked running. In fact I probably said i hated it. Now, I love signing up for races. It's great. Gives me something to train for. Stick with the program. You will see progress. Don't give up. You don't have to be perfect. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. I started with walking and jogging intervals and just kept going. I changed my Spark name because i love running so much. It's great that you are doing the virtual race. That's something to train for and do!

Hi everyone! I am new to running (sort of) and new to this team. I am 32 and never been a runner even though I have tried many times. I just joined the SparkPeople Virtual 5k and will start the walk/jog training program tomorrow. I have been on SparkPeople for some time now but had dropped off and just got started again a few weeks ago. I need to lose approximately 50 lbs. I try to eat healthy and be active most of the time but I travel all of the time for work. I have finally reached a point that I refuse to no longer let my work travel stop me from losing weight and getting healthy. I have watched people in the gym running on the treadmill or running outside when I walk and I am so jealous of them. I have tried several of the training programs out there but never seem to get more than a few weeks in before I quit for some reason or another. I am planning to make this time different. I am also trying to get more involved on the boards since I know support helps with the journey.
