Hi! I am fairly new to sparkpeople, and here is just one more group that I am so happy to find. Just a quick nutshell about my journey...I started my official weightloss journey late June 2010 while I live in TX. I had a desire to run for cardio, but this was kind of a joke considering that I have NEVER been an athlete and running in the hot TX summer is no joke. I started with couch to 5k and finally got to where I could run 1mile straight without stopping to walk. I entered my first 5K in Aug 2010 (appropriately titled Hotter than Hades Run) and my only goal was to cross the finish with my own 2 feet (not on a stretcher) and walk as little as possible. I finished the race in 40something minutes and had stopped on a few times for walking. That first race gave me the confidence to keep going (and of course the weight loss kept me motivated too). I moved to Germany in October 2010, and things slowed down a bit at that time. The weather in southeast Germany is very different than that of middle Texas. I have since ran several 5K's and have finally progressed to being able to run the etireity of the race. My last was over St. Patty's day, and I set a new PR of 32:10. I still consider myself a slow runner and want so badly to get my race time under 30 minutes. It seems as I conquer one stumbling block, there's always another waiting to happen. As far as my weight loss, I initially lost about 30 lbs before moving to Germany. I was able to lose 10 more last year, but then went into maintenence mode. I just started weight loss again this past January and have lost about 9-10 lbs putting me at a total of almost 50lbs lost since starting in June 2010. I want to shed at least another 20, and hopefully if I train hard enough and stay disciplined to my diet I will see it sometime this year. I know that hitting my goal weight will get me one step closer to becoming the runner that I want to be!!! I am so happy to have found this site, because having others experiences as resources will hopefully help me progress in my personal running pursuits. My current running goals are to #1- conquer my mind and stop letting it bog me down and hold me back, #2- get 5K time under 30 minutes, #3- progress to 10K and hopefully at least 1 half marathon this year 2012, #4- full marathon (in a super cool location) before I hit 40 y/o, #5- build the confidence that I need to start calling myself a "runner" without feeling like a fraud :) Look forward to the wealth of information that I can learn here, and who knows...maybe I can help/motivate others too!!!
