Google Running stores and your city...you really need to look at stores who focus only on running, such as Fleet Feet, Road Runner Sport, etc. Stores such as Lady Foot Lock, Dick's, Sports Authority, really do not have TRAINED personnel to fit one properly for the best shoe for your pronation. Hope this helps and...

HAPPY RUNNING!

I don't know where you live, but the Finishline store has been very helpful to me. Of course my nephew works there part time when he's home from college and he gave me good tips.

My thanks to you all. Because of your wise advice, I'm taking this a lot more seriously than I normally would have. I guess it's time for me to do research on sports stores to find ones that check my gait and shoes that work well on my feet. I saw an orthopedic dr a few months ago, maybe I'll call him next week for recommendations. Any particular stores that you'd go to again and again?

Thanks much! Jae

I agree with the previous posters...shoes are what can make or break a runner. Well worth every penny, just make sure you get fitted at a specialty running store...going running shoe shopping without the help of a expert is like searching for a needle in a haystack. CONGRATS on your weight loss, too Jae! WOW, you have done an amazing job!

HAPPY RUNNING!

Welcome to the team Jae!

Good running shoes are worth their weight in gold! Walking sneakers are not designed for the inpact that running will bring and don't offer the same shock absorption. Absolutely get yourself to a running store or good shoe store that will properly fit you for the runners. It will make running easier and help prevent injury.

(i would highly suggest you invest in some running shoes if you want to start running.

make sure you go to a running store and get your gait and stride analyzed by a professional.)

Hi everyone, I'm new to the world of running. Have been walking for years and am now walking an hour a day. A couple of weeks ago I started mixing in a little running with the walking and I like it. I just don't want to overdo it, so I'm not going to push it. I really like running though, and want to keep it up.
I'm wondering if my Reebok walkers are sufficient for this, or if runners would be a better choice. My knees ache a little, but I think that may have more to do with age than my shoes.
