Good Morning!
I am new to the group but excited about having joined. As long as I can remember, even as a kid, have never enjoyed working out but I have to say, since trying Pilates, I look forward to it. Since I am so new to Pilates and since I practice it only at home alone, I thought this would be a great group to join. I look forward to meeting other members and receiving suggestions for great Pilates DVD's I can purchase.
Have a fantastic day!

Hi,

Denise here, I've been interested in Pilates for a while, have DVDs and even an AeroPilates reformer. But I wasn't sure I was doing things correctly. So I was excited when I saw a Groupon offer for 50% off group mat classes at a studio very close to me which I hadn't realized was there. Been going for about 3 weeks now and love it.

I am taking a Pilates mat class once a week and a Barre class once a week. Next step, a couple individual sessions to learn how to use my reformer correctly.

Morning! My name is Jeanne and I am new to Pilates. I joined a Bodyflow class at my gym and I absolutely love it. Some poses are still a bit tough but I make it through ok!

Hi Judy,

Welcome to the team!!!
Yes, doing Pilates flattens the stomach and improves posture. It helps in so many other ways as well!

Did you try the free 2 week sessions from Pilates Anytime? You might find it fun and educational.

Karen, one of our team mates, posts her weekly classes and those are great!

Hi everyone. My name is Judy. Not new to Spark but recently re-joined this team. Really want and need to do a much better job incorporating Pilates into my regular workout routine. I'm working on incorporating more walk/running for cardio and Pilates will help with that I've heard. Also, I've had a C-section 6 years ago and have also heard Pilates can help flatten my tummy which I'm hopefully not too late for! Looking forward to improving my practice and getting to know all of you!

Hi everyone! Just joined the team today but not new to SP. I completed a Pilates routine this morning (Pick Your Level by Ellen Barrett), started on Level 1, and hopefully that will jump start me back into exercising! I have 5 Pilates dvds but have only tried 2 of them in the last few years. I feel pretty good right now emoticon

Hello! My name is Dana and I started with mat Pilates about 15 years ago. Left for some time and then picked it up again with consistency starting last spring. Am extremely lucky because there is a studio about 1/2 mile from my house. Right now I am going to classes about 2 times per week and I love it. Started up again to help my running and golf game. Love it!

Hi, Karen;
I think your weekend photos are fantastic. Thank you for including us. I think the best location would be Pilates Chit-Chat. If you would post your notice I will copy the notice to all of the members.

Also, there is an "add a link" option when you are posting that allows others to be able to open the link without going to the address bar.

Bettie, I have a facebook page for my Pilates business and each weekend I post videos so that my students can continue their Pilates practice on the days when class doesn't meet. I can post those on here as well. Let me know where would be best so that the team might see it.

Also, my facebook page is facebook.com/PilatesByKaren

Hi Harper! Welcome to the team! Depending on where you live, you may be able to find a Pilates class in your area. If you live in a big city, it will be easier to find and you may be able to find a local studio that has equipment, which will help take your workout to the next level. If you don't know where to start looking, you can ask around at local gyms. If they don't have any classes, they might know where you can find some. Also, here is a link to a video of one of my classes that I teach on a regular basis:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Fg4F
TMYQuQ It's super-beginning with a lot of stretching. It's not professionally done, but you will be able to follow along. You will need a stretch band (or you can use a towel) for one of the stretching exercises. I hope this helps. And if you would like me to send you links to more videos, let me know. I have 25 videos that range widely in level.

Hi! My name is Karen. I'm a Pilates instructor in Alabama. I've been practicing Pilates for 10 years and teaching for a little over 5 years. I started Pilates because I'm a very injury-prone dancer and my college advisor recommended Pilates as a way to strengthen and reduce my injuries. I love Pilates and miss it when I go too long without getting a workout in.

Hi, I was on this team during a previous spark stint, recently rejoined spark. I have a previous post in this thread lol. I do change user names a lot and join and rejoin spark. I love pilates and yoga and they kind of work hand-in-hand to heal my body & spirit when bad times come. Just happened on the team again. emoticon

Hello All. I am new to pilates though I love yoga and feel this would go hand in hand for a low impact exercise that will help burn some calories while toning. I have some medical restrictions so I can't just go into a gym and start pumping iron or do many strength exercises. This was how I found yoga and Love it! I also was interested in pilates but never really tried it. Now I am excited to try some of the workouts on here and see how much I can burn with a mix. I also am trying to incorporate a lifestyle change for my family to become healthier. I have already changed many of my eating habits to drop bad food habits but you couldn't tell it from my nutrition tracker. Hopefully With the help of Spark and good teams I can hone this to a better level of intake/outtake and create that healthy all around lifestyle that my family wants and needs.

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit.

Hi Sara, I had never heard of Blogilates so I checked it out. Oh my... I have to say that if it works for you and you like it, keep up with it. However, I need to put in my 2cents anyway That 'instructor' has terrible form and does not go over basic principles which ensure safety and quality of movement. Have a look instead in this group; there are a few links mentioned in other topics that are very good, especially anything from about.com From YouTube I can highly recommend anything coming from efit30 and spark which have tons of various length videos. I know buying a DVD can be limiting and YouTube is a great source for varying your workouts, but you also need to be aware that not every teacher is a teacher If you do choose to look into DVDs, I can recommend anything from Stott or Fusion Pilates. Windsor is one of my least favorites, but they are still good. I have quite a collection so feel free to ask me if you have anything specific in mind. Good luck with your workouts!

Hey everyone! I'm Sara, I'm 21 and a senior in college. I just joined this group because although I've been tracking on SparkPeople for a little while now, I could really use the support of some SparkTeams. I think what we are getting done collectively is really amazing! I started getting into Pilates about two months ago with Blogilates on Youtube, and now do it wherever I can find space, and have almost lost twenty pounds in the process. Feel free to add me if we have things in common, or you're looking for a SparkFriend.

Hey fellow pilates lovers! I'm somewhat new to SparkPeople. I joined a while ago but am just starting to get more use out of this great resource.

Pilates is one of the few exercise routines where I feel good afterward and which I keep coming back to. I'm trying to do the routines more regularly so I can get the most effect. I do have some questions about certain aspects of exercises and Pilates in general which is why I joined this team. Hopefully I'll be able to help others as well with their questions or to simply provide encouragement.

That is exactly why I started pilates. It is a good strengthener, but it does take time; there are some days I think my legs and arms get more of a workout than my core, but I feel it the next day so something must be moving in the right direction. emoticon

Hi, UI am a 53 year old, female and have just lost 43 pounds and still have at least 43 more to loose. In Sept after loosing abou 18 pounds I wanted something to wake up my core and sent an email to a yoga studio and to a Pilates Studio. I told them I was Morbidly Obese and have started to lose weight and wanted to add Pilates to my work out routine. I told them that I had zero strength in my core but if they were willing to work with me, I was going to try. Well that was in September about 2 weeks before I found Spark People. I have taken private Pilates classes using a reformer and Cadilic and usually get in two classes a week when I am not on travel.

I totally enjoy them. My shoulders keep creeping up to help me and my instructor does not like that. Sometimes my core muscles do what they are suppose to and sometimes they do not. I have seen and inprovement and I know my instructor has also. I have not tried out mat work. I would like to find someone in the Summerville, SC area to take Pilates with as it would be a little cheaper than what I currently pay.

The benefits are wonderful. My body is slimming down, I feel stronger and happier. I still have a huge stomach and know that it gets in the way with Pilates. All my body fat was located there and still is. (273 pounds starting, now 230) I still have a hard time doing excercises that improve the obliques. But I continue to work on them.

I highly recomment Pilates to anyone.

Thank you for the welcome. I've been on these message boards and on Spark for almost 3 years now. Back in the days when this team wanted a blog post a week or more as one of the team goals, and I tallied it up emoticon

Some times, when you blog very often, it's like Seinfeld used to be: a show about nothing ...

Anyway, I appreciate Pilates because the learning curve with it is very steep (meaning you advanced fast) ....

My name is Tina.

I take pilates mat classes, the occasional 5 Rhythms dance class (R.I.P., Gabrielle Roth), and practice my own lengthy movement with breath awareness routine at home that is about 35 or 40% pilates (the rest of it is yoga) ... that 35 or 40% represents over 20 minutes of mat pilates!

I have a few pilates downloads that I would like to queue up, as well ...

I have been sneakily racking up points for this team (in Goals) back in the day ... rarely posted messages here ...

New names, new classes, new philosophy...what ever the reason it is always great to find new and motivating techniques. Pilates is a focus on the core muscle groups and breathing. When done daily I think it leads to great benefits and awareness. I am so glad to have the two of you join us....er...rejoin

Hello! I am trying to 'get into' Pilates. I have taken a class twice a week for the past couple of weeks and I really enjoy! I would like to further my appreciation and get 'deeper' into it, if you will. My 'concern' re the class I currently take at an LA Fitness, is that it's not deep enough. Although we do quite a few moves/holds, etc., I have a feeling there's so much 'more'. Hope this group can lead me to where I think I need to go.

CHEERS EVERYONE! emoticon

Rejoining team with my new user name. I was previously CChef1 and on this team, wanted to rejoin as I am trying to get motivated to do a little Pilates daily again.

Welcome to the team! I am glad to hear that you survived the hurricane okay. I live in Birmingham, AL and we just got some of the clouds and rain. I can definitely understand how you feel about needing to get back on track; I feel horrible when I get off track.

Hi. Im Jenn. I am a PiYo instructor at a local gym here at the bottom of Louisiana. I love Pilates, but love the slow breathing and concentration/focus of Yoga. I've been a part of SP for a while now but I have gotten "sidetracked" by kids summer vacation and a hurricane. Power is back on, internet is back on, gym just reopened, and kids school should be fixed by next week for them to go back. Its time to get back. Things are too hectic to not get my PiYo on. I look forward to "hearing" how other feel, their fave moves, etc,. Im always willing to learn more for myself and my classes.

I am a huge fan of pilates and happy to be a part of this group. I am unusual in that I had surgery 4 years ago that involved removing my rectus abdominus muscles. As a result, i cannot do a regular situp. Pilates helped me so much in my recovery, by strengthening my pelvic floor and obliques. It just shows pilates can help everyone, regardless of the physical challenges we all have!
