Watching TV and reading work for losing weight if you do them on an exercise bike or treadmill
I haven't taken much in the way of ballet or jazz, but I do a type of English folk dancing called Morris Dancing. Helps keep me in shape and out of trouble... it's great to have something you love to do that keeps you in shape!
I like a wide variety of music too - I think anyone who got hold of my iPod would guess that I have multiple-personality disorder - nah, I just like VARIETY!

10% goal - 148.5 lb.

I REALLY LOVE the idea of getting back to dance as an outlet for yourself! I have never danced beyond my closet...lol, BUT I LOVE music, wide variety also, and have been working up enough courage to consider taking some sort of dance class.
Super to see you jumping right into our message boards...that's how to get the MOST from your SparkTeams! :-)

Hi - I'm Heather, been on Spark People for a while now but just joining the local team. I'm 36 and losing weight for health/medical reasons. I have about 60 pounds to lose. I used to be in GREAT shape as a late teen/young adult, dancing 5 days a week (ballet/jazz) but then when I graduated college I just dropped out and then met my husband who is an amazing cook, and just kept steadily gaining weight every year (we've been married 12 years). I peaked this past fall in weight, and was started on medication for hypertension, which is just not OK at 36 years old, to me. I've been on thyroid medication since I was 22, and I'm hoping to be able to be off the BP meds, and lower the thyroid meds as the weight comes off.
I was having a hard time motivating myself to exercise, until I started dancing again. I've been doing a 30-minute ballet class for myself every night while my daughter falls asleep (one of the only tiems I have 30 minutes where I'm not doing something else and it's quiet in the house), and I'm loving it. It's only been a week that I've been doign it and my body is already more flexible and just feels better for doing it.
My hobbies are knitting, baking, reading, surfing, and watching TV (none really great for losing weight, are they? ha!)
The worst thing I ever did as a kid....well, really, I was an angel as a kid so there is nothing. In college I co-hosted a huge party at my then boyfriend's house while his parents were on vacation.
I love most types of music, with a couple exceptions I won't mention because many people really like the ones I don't. Hee hee. My favorites alternate between funk, hard/alternative, dance/hip hop, and classical. So, um, pretty varied.
Weirdest thing I ever ate? Hmm. I guess the squid sauce my sunt used to make every Christmas Eve. As a kid, I never could quite figure out why I didn't like the Christmas Eve pasta (as opposed to regular day pasta) but choked it down every year, never bothered asking why it was different, until I was about 16 and went over to her house while she was making it. That's when I realized why it was so different than the normal pasta sauce the family made! And that's the year I started taking 1 polite bite and nothing more.
