Healthy food choices and steadily increasing your physical activities will be probably some of the most potent defenses you can have against depression!
I think of Newton's Laws of Physics when it comes to energy levels and physical activity. Ever notice how when we don't do very much we get logey and tired...? On the other hand when we pick up the pace and are doing more most of us find our momentum picks up as well and we can be more active.
An object at rest tends to stay at rest.
An object in MOTION tends to STAY IN MOTION!
Think about long car trips...sitting for hours...how EXHAUSTING it can be doing nothing much at all! :-)

Hi everyone! My name is Tamara and I grew up in the area. I was gone in NJ for college for four years and then moved to NC after graduation to try things out, but am moving back in a few weeks to be north of the Mason-Dixon line. I've been on Spark a few times but realize that what I really need are some buddies to work with, which is why I'm so happy to find this group!
A little bit about my goals...I just wrote a blog entry about them today if you want to check it out, but I'm 23 and overweight. Due to depression, hypothyroidism, and college life I've gained 40lbs in the past four or five years. I've never been small, but this has gotten ridiculous and I'm really starting to feel the unhealthy side-effects of the way I've been living my life. So while it would be nice to be thinner, I also want to be healthier. I have high cholesterol and diabetes runs in my family. While I try to eat well, I have a tendency to binge. But what I think I need to work on the most is exercising. I don't move and I'm exhausted/tired all the time. And I HATE it! I'm open to any butt-kicking and pushing that anyone would like to offer. Thanks!
