Good morning to everyone.

It is amazing how many different forms the autoimmune conditions take. There seems to be an increase in the number of people experiencing these conditions. Maybe eventually they'll have enough money to study them all at once and understand them better, as they are now doing for the cancers. I have two of these conditions--myasthenia gravis and Fuchs chronic hematochromic iritis (eye inflammation) and am doing well now since the dosage of the medication I'm on was increased a couple weeks ago.

Welcome to the team, Lynle0423 and BeautyInGrace.

I was just diagnosed and prescribed medication in June. So my body is still fighting itself.

I do talk with my doctors and do a tremendous amount of research online. I have also joined some FB support groups in hopes of gaining more knowledge to beat this thing because I am determined to do just that. :)

Thank you for the welcome

Have a great weekend!

Hi LYNLEO,
Welcome to the team.
I am guessing that your Dr. had you on meds to help.
Now it is up to you to get more info to talk about with him/ her.

Hello, I am new to this team but not to Spark, I was here years ago and I see there are many changes, trying to get a grip on the new stuff added and making up some goals and keeping track of things. I hope to meet some nice friends once again and hope we all have success in reaching our goals. Good Luck to All Here.

Hi Julie its nnice to meet you. I have a Fitbit Charge 2. I absolutely love it. I wear it all the time. I track my steps, sleep patterns, water, and I just synced it to Spark People. Whatever happens on my fitbit shows on SP. Its what got me back to SP.

Hi, H.L. I'm glad you joined this team. Most of us have some limitation they are working around. I am usually pretty strong and active for my age (76), but sometimes have to sit in a chair for days on end do to myasthenia gravis. I'm in remission now, though just had my medicines increased to prevent my eyelids from closing all the time.

What kind of fit bit do you have? I don't have one, but considered it and was amazed at the price and at the number of choices.

Julie

Hi I just signed back up for SP after being away for awhile. I have medical conditions that limit what I can do. I wear my fitbit all the time (I love it) but can't get close to 10,000 steps. 😔 I'm hoping in time I can work my way there.

Welcome, Sugar. I have not been on this team for long myself. I joined it because I thought it would be good to be on a team where others understood those days when I can't do much of anything at all. Right now, the medicines are adjusted and working well so I am pretty active. My main focus is on the sleep problem team right now, as I think inadequate sleep has contributed to my weight and other problems.

Didn't mean to offend you, Angel. We all have to find what we need and what we need may differ from time to time and also differ from what we want. Sometimes, too, people can not agree or "take the side" of a teammate though they do feel very supportive and make every effort to be helpful. The first time this happened to me while in spark, I was very upset initially, but then I sat back and tried to figure out exactly what the person who responded to me (or against me) meant, and discovered that some of it was on target, some of it had nothing to do with what I said, and some probably applied more to her situation than mine.

I'm sorry I said anything. Clearly, this isn't the group for me... I thought there would be more support from people with similar issues, not a "Trust the doctors!" remark. Thanks for clearing it up for me. Have a nice day.

Well said.
Research is okay but too many conditions with overlapping symptoms . Also rely on professions and tests.

I agree with that. It is possible to do better than the doctors would through reading and self-diagnosis, but quite rare. The doctor needs to know all the symptoms that you are experiencing and from there, come up with tests that would rule various causes in or out. If you present the doctor with the rationale for your self-diagnosis, you will tend to emphasize symptoms that fit this diagnosis and omit "meaningless" or "unnoticed" other symptoms that could make a lot of difference. There is a thin line between seeking information or seeking verification from a doctor.

Hello Kryssie,
Sad to say, you gave me a giggle. My husband is always the one to talk about people self-diagnosing . Then if he is sick, he want me to google his symptoms before he goes to the doctor.
If I were you, I would find another doctor, and make sure he/she is willing to listen and test before you accept their ideas.

Hello, I'm Kryssie. I have recently discovered that I'm actually seronegative celiac. How did I come by this? The first time I was tested (and ever since), I test negative for ANAs. I also tested negative for Celiacs, via blood test; my inflammation markers, however, were off the charts. My doctor, at that time, figured I'd tested negative because I'd been testing a theory and had gone gluten free for a few weeks. Rather than make myself sick by consuming wheat, I just stayed gluten free until 2013 when I was in a car accident and couldn't work...which made that diet unaffordable, so I went back to a "normal" diet. In October 2014, I got hit with sudden, widespread pain and debilitating fatigue. Pretty sure it's some type of inflammatory arthritis...no diag, yet...and if it *is* RA, it's likely seronegative...

Anyway... I decided to go back to a Paleo/Primal/Keto type diet because I need to lose weight and I know that worked before, plus I felt better with that diet. Wouldn't you know it? I stopped eating grains and legumes and 75% of my pain went away... No more nausea, bloating, diarrhea/constipation... just...normalacy. I even finally identified the bumps on my hands as dermatitis herpetiformis from seeing pictures of it. I had no idea. I'm debating getting an actual *test* for it as a confirmation, simply because it would mean I'd have to make myself sick for 6 months in order to do the biopsy of the small intenstines...and, I really enjoy not being sick and in that much pain every day, so...likely not gonna. (So, please don't be upset that I've likely just self-diagnosed this condition...doctors haven't been listening to me for two years, so someone needed to do something).

Anyway! Hi! I used to be a powerlifter, but I'm pretty sure the inflammatory arthritis (if it isn't RA...which runs in my family and I have, like, just about every symptom for) has done enough that I don't think a return will happen. Which makes me sad. On the plus side, I'm working out at home, now, with my 10lb dumbbells and maybe...just maybe....I'll be able to upgrade those to 12lbs! We'll see. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy the fact I'm not absolutely killing myself by eating incorrectly and encourage my mother (who has nearly identical symptoms to mine) to get tested for Celiac/Seronegative Celiac, since it does tend to run in families.

Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder...Avada Kedavra, Sweetie....

Welcome to the team. I think most of us have no energy spells. I do what I can do when I can. Then don't worry about the down time.
Best of luck.

My name is Julie and I joined Spark about 3 months ago due to inability to lose weight gained as a side effect of medication. I have two autoimmune conditions--Fuchs chronic Iritis and (a very mild case of) myasthenia gravis. I found out about this team from looking at the Spark Page of a teammate on a sleep team and think it might be helpful.

I have some difficulty with vision and the left eye, always swimming with "floaters" and appearing as if it really didn't belong with the rest of my face, is said to be in deteriorating condition now. This is not a current problem, as I can read and drive--TV or movie watching is OK if not for too long or too many hours a day.

The myasthenia is under control with medication so long as I don't get too much activity. How much is too much has been something that varies over time and sometimes I do too much and end up exhausted and in bed or chair for hours or days until energy returns. The neurologist has vetoed weights, and crunches and has recently OK'd aerobics, though I find so far that activities of gardening are about all I can manage right now.

In Spark my current focus is on getting more sleep. Most of my life I have slept only about 5 hours per night, but this is no longer working for me and between problems with restless leg syndrome and adjusting to use of a CPAP, I was having difficulty sleeping more. Since on the sleep team, however, I have increased the amount of sleep I get substantially and feel much better. I have also improved my activity level through doing several shorter periods of exertion rather than a long one. Tracking food has helped me lose 6 pounds.

Everything is going well for me now, and I am glad I am in Spark. I know that at any time I can have another spell of exhaustion, but hopefully these will be fewer and milder if I attain and maintain better health and habits.

If you want to know more about me, feel free to check out my spark page.

I can relate to the thyroid-exhaustion-and hands and feet going to sleep, tingling and burning. It is caused by peripheral neuropathy that goes hand and hand with the thyroid and stomach issues.
Hang in there, keep looking for answers and relief. But the main thing to help is to pray !!!

Hello everyone! Dawn here! I am a 40 year old single mom who lives with her parents. I have an associates in Office Systems and a BS in Religion and have started working on my MDiv. I love love love all things artsy! I enjoy reading, writing, painting (oil is my fav), creating stuff (anything really!), drawing, bullet journaling, and adult coloring books! I am a spark-people newbie....well, kind of. I have been on Spark-people before but never really stuck with it. But, I just need to get my health in check for REAL so I am back and I am soooooo going to do it this time!

So, I was in the hospital for awhile about a year and a half ago and it sucked! Everyone thought I was going to die but no one could figure out why. They were pumping full of all sorts of antibiotics and who knows what else. I don't remember my first week there. I was just sooooooo out of it. I don't think I even ate or went to the bathroom or anything for like ten days (including the days before i was at the hospital).....ugh! But, I obviously did start getting a bit better and I eventually got out. But, was never the same....

Before going to the hospital I was already having struggles with other things. I had been dealing with migraines for years. As matter of fact, that is how I ended up in the hospital for so long. I just thought I had a migraine but the pain just knocked me on my ass for like three days at home and my family was all like, "We gotta get this chick some help, this ain't normal." So to the ER they took me. So, that is the headache issues. There was also the GI issues....ugh! I was diagnosed with colitis before my hospital visit and put on Delzicol (still take it) and I also have a hiatal hernia. Before any of that I was struggling with Hypothyroidism and am still on Levo for that.

So, recently (as in the last 6 months) I have been sooooooooooo sleepy. I mean, more than sleepy....just washing the dishes exhausts me. I talked to my primary about it and he was all like, "You need to lose weight." Yeah, duh....like I didn't already know that! But I have been FAT for a freaking while now so WHY is it making me tired all of a sudden?

Then I started getting skin problems and he sent me to a derm. New doc took a biopsy and said the skin stuff was Sarcoids and sent me to a pulmanologist (I have been using inhalers already for a couple years.....didn't know why really.....just couldn't breath). Turns out i have Sarcoidosis in my lungs too. He scheduled me for an eye doc but I haven't been yet....my eyes are all jacked up...they pretty much bother me all the time so I know I probably need to get to an eye doc soon but I am just getting freaking tired of docs...UGH. Now my hands and feet are falling asleep for no freaking reason! UGH! And don't even get me started on what my sinuses are doing!

Now I am on 60mg predisone a day and that seriously SUCKS! Turns out it gives you the super-power of sweating out more liquids than you actually put in your body......oh yeah, and also makes you want to eat the whole world!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH!

So, that is my intro and my story.....sorry it is so long. It has been a rough year SO i guess I needed to vent. I am trying SOOOOOOOO hard to just keep living my life but it is like impossible these days....I can't even stay on my feet longer than an hour tops. I gotta start making some money but damn, I can hardly even keep up with what I have going on around the house.....and it is seriously not that much!

So, can any one here relate? If so please send me a private message so that I can start chatting with some people that understand what I am going through.

Be blessed!

~Dawn~
