The video wouldn't open for me... but consider this...

She is probably less than where she started and but everyone loses weight at the same rate or in the same places. She may be losing inches and is more than likely gaining muscle. I have danced with girls that did not change their diet. They lost weight because they went every day, and could do a two hour class (as zumba is great for building endurance) but they did not shed the pounds very quickly.

Also, if she has a medical condition, such as hypothyroid, PCOS, or anything that could affect metabolism, she may not be able to lose the weight no matter how much she works out. Hope this helps.

this was in response to Jeff's question ...

Hello! I am old spark member, but it is an account I created and then ignored. I have finally decided to get serious with it. I have been going to zumba for over a year now, but haven't tracked anything on sparkpeople.

Now, my instructor has moved her classes to another gym and the times (and prices) just don't work. I am able to go to another gym twice a month, but it is really hard to get my "fix". So, in the meantime, I am trying to workout at home with youtube videos... Club Fitz is my favorite, but there are several other good ones too. I have zumba for the xbox, but it just isn't the same.

I would love ideas, if you have any... and feel free to add me as a sparkfriend!

Hey There! I'm new to the team but not to Zumba. Before I had my daughter, I was doing Zumba at least 2 times each week, but then I got out of the habit and just started doing it again at the beginning of February. I love Zumba! I love dancing and being able to "exercise" while dancing is the best thing for me. Hope everyone has success and enjoys the journey to being healthy!

Hello my name is Lira and I am new to the team of course and I am addicted to Zumba. My hubby bought the disc for the Xbox over the thanksgiving or Christmas holiday and we just started it this month. I have not lost the weight I wanted, but I have lost inches and that is great. I like working out at home with my daughter in the evening, she is 12 and I have noticed some weight loss in her also. I have finally lost a weight lost regimen the works for me. I am going to shake it until I make it. :-)

Hello, my name is Jael and I love zumba! I take three classes a week at Lifetime Fitness. There are several different teachers, so I get a different experience each time I go. They have aqua zumba too, but I've never been able to try it because they only offer it while I'm at work.

It's been great for me, as I've really gotten to know the instructors and the people who come to class every week. It's so much fun!

I love Zumba, new to the team. I have attended a live class, loved it. I currently do the Zumba system at home. It is fun, uplifting, and burns calories. I love the great feeling I get when I end a session of Zumba. emoticon

Hi, I'm Jeff. I just attended my first Zumba event. It looks interesting but noticed that some faithful attendees are still overweight. Why is that? This one lady (pink outfit with short red wig) danced for 2 hours straight without going to the restroom and won the contest "Zumba Queen" for this event in the video below, incredible endurance, but also wondered why she looks a bit heavy (no disrespect, of course)

Hi Spark People! Just wanted to introduce myself and say that I'm excited to join a group of people online that are into Zumba as much as I am. I initially got into Zumba because of my crush on Pitbull. And now I'm a hopeless addict that starts most mornings with a cup of coffee, a bowl of special K, and a 30 minute Zumba workout.

Hi,

I have loved Zumba for a long time. I have always danced since I was little but was never that coordinated. I recently joined a studio that teaches Zumba and I'm having a lot of fun there. There were challenges for me at first. I had to complete 3 months worth of physical therapy for tendonitis. I would drop in for an occasional class then. I would do the moves with little or no movement of my arms. Now I'm thrilled that I finished my PT and I have almost complete movement of my arms! I moved ahead to Zumba toning a few weeks ago with light weights. These seemed a bit too light so I tried the heavier ones. I think I'm not ready for the heavy ones.

I have progressed quite a lot in coordination over the past month or so since I joined. I couldn't do jumps before but I can now. It is a bit difficult for me. I once fractured my foot and now I have to wear a stiff orthotic in my sneakers. I think the orthotic holds me back in my ability to do some things but I keep on trying!

Thanks so much for the recommendation! Finding shoes is tricky for me because I need WW width - I'll see what Reebok has to offer!

@Carrenk - I have heard mixed reviews on "Zumba" brand shoes.... I have found that Reebok Studio choice work for me the best. I got them at footlocker. (I got the black n pink lowtops. They work great and slide nicely on the floor and you can spin in them. www.footlocker.com/product/model:210

@Kaza - some shoes have a round section on the sole at the ball of your foot. Makes the pivots a lot easier! The first pair I purchased didn't fit very well, so I'm searching for a new brand to try. emoticon

Hi! I'm a long time Spark member, and I'm starting my third year of Zumba. I only have class once a week, but I really enjoy it, I'm not the most coordinated person, but I'm a musician so I have a pretty good sense of rhythm, which keeps me from getting too lost!
Joining this team now because my Google search for Zumba shoe recommendations brought me here! Looking forward to learning from everyone!

I am new to Zumba as a dancer. Can you really call yourself a dancer, when you look like a 3yr old throwing a fit while trying to learn the moves??? emoticon I recently got new internet and therefore I can do Zumba in the comfort of my Living Room via some DirecTV/YouTube videos. This way I get to pick and choose and sit down and catch my breath without feeling like a loser/failure! (i use those terms lightly).

I won't be Zumba'ing often, just possibly twice/week to change up my already structured walking routines. Thanks for having me, I'll be around! ~ Naomi

Hey there, everyone! I'm new to the team, but I've been Zumba-ing since 2009ish. I usually do "dance fitness" videos on Youtube or take classes at the local university's student rec center (via staff membership). I do have one of the games for Wii, but the controls insult my old-school gamer sensibilities (you can sit down and shake the controller to get a good score...). I tend to like the Bollywood routines...

My mum sometimes joins me, and she's awesome at keeping up despite her age and bad knees! I only hope I can be as awesome as her one day ^^

Hi, I'm Debbie. I joined our wellness center last May. They have a Zumba Gold class that I take, however the wonderful instructor left and I don't care for the new instructor. I'm considering taking a regular Zumba class instead. Anyway, I love Zumba even if my body doesn't want to cooperate. lol

Hello! My name is Jess and I am starting a new Zumba class tonight. I thought what better way to stay motivated to go than to join a group dedicated to Zumba lol. I have done Zumba in the past, and it is one of my favorite way's to exercise. In the past I have let my size stop me from going to many classes but I decided to heck with it. I know that the only one in there judging me is me and it's time to get over it!

Zumba in the Park sounds painful if you don't have the right kind of footwear. When I played a witch in The Scottish Play a few years ago we did it in a park, and when I would run and jump and dance it HURT in the knees and ankles the next day, Make sure your feet aren't sticking to the ground when you twist and turn, and make sure you have high-impact insoles in your sneakers.

Hi! My name is Lorelei and I just joined SparkPeople and Team Zumba Lovers today!

I'm 42 years old. I've been sedentary (meaning lazy) my whole life because I always had a high metabolism. I decided a month ago to do something because my metabolism has slowed down to a crawl and I need to lose 19 lbs. Dieting alone wasn't making the weight go away, even though I cut out all of the junk I lived on my whole life.

I bought the Zumba Exhilarate set and I am hooked. I'm frustrated, though, because I'm forcing myself to start out slow. Like I said, I've been lazy my whole life, and I'm in my 40s now and heart disease runs in my family. I want to do a 60 minute set NOW, but I know I need to do baby steps.

Were any of you just able to jump into it (no pun intended) without starting out slow?

Morning Margarita!

I can tell you what has worked for me. Just get moving. Do some kind of cardio at least 30 minutes a day and commit to doing it for 4 weeks. Also track your food and exercise on here via the trackers.

The key is to get started - after you get over the hump and start seeing the results it creates a domino effect and you don't want to stop!

Take it from me - I was in the 230's back in 2007, started, got down to 181, had a baby and went back up to 230. The difference now is that I know what to do now and it's working!

The best answer really is just to do it. Don't grant yourself any excuses. Just wait, the feeling of accomplishment that you will soon have is addicting.

I am also back to being a regular here so I and I bet a lot of others here will be here to offer you support. Good luck and get moving!

God is good and I'm alive. No excuses necessary - go hard or go home! (and then put some work in there too!)

Hey SQHARDBODY,

Is it the Zumba Exhilarate set? I used to do the old Zumba videos with Beto and I liked them a lot, but this new set? I...AM...HOOKED!

I get up at 5 AM to either run or get a cardio workout in, and for the last two weeks I haven't failed to get up when it's not a running day because I'm looking forward to ZUMBA!!!

I've also got some big goals so maybe we can work on them together. Looking forward to our journey!

God is good and I'm alive. No excuses necessary - go hard or go home! (and then put some work in there too!)

Hi everyone!! I just created this account since I have no idea what my old username/password is. I've taken Zumba classes very sporadically in the past but I recently bought the latest home system and something about it has gotten me totally hooked. So I figured I'd join a community of people who loves it as much as I do. I have some pretty lofty (to me) goals so I'm hoping Zumba will get me to where I want to be (in conjunction with the other measures I've taken).

I'm glad to be here and I hope to really become involved with you all... :)

Hi All -
I'm new to the team. This is my second go-round on spark. I joined 3 years ago and lost 35 pounds (15 of which I've gained back now). So I'm here to prevent further slideback by going back to the basics: Exercise, food tracking, and encouragement!

I love Zumba and am actually trying to start an 8-week free community fitness course called Zumba in the Park. I'm excited to meet you all and to start encouraging you on your journeys!

Hi, All!

I am new to the team and just got certified to teach Zumba! Although I am a bit intimidated because I am no where close to my goal (been fighting medical issues), I am starting to practice and then going to look to teach locally.

I am excited to be a part of the team! Woo hoo!

Hi Everyone! I haven't even tried zumba yet - going to my first class tonight - but I know I am going to love it! I love music and I love dancing - how can I not love it? Feeling very motivated to get into shape right now. I have not been very active in the last 10 years so this should shake things up!

Hi everyone, I am new to the team. I participated in Zumba for the 1st time last year but only for a few times. This year I went 3 times already and would like to stay motivated to continue going. I need to lose at least 60 pounds. I feel lazy and sluggish most of the time? Any suggestions on how to get on track?

Margarita

I've been a SparkPeople member for a few years now... off and on. I admit, I'm horrible about consistency. So I decided today that I was going to find some groups I'd be interested in interacting with. Hello Zumba!

I've been attending Zumba class for 2 years now and I'm totally hooked. Anybody who has an instructor they LOVE will understand when I say that she is totally irreplaceable! With that said... she is moving to CHINA in June. Way too soon I will be on a quest to "replace" an irreplaceable instructor, friend, mentor. But Zumba will stay with me!

Hi! Just wanted to introduce myself as I am new to this group! I absolutely love LOVE LOVE Zumba! I just recently started taking Zumba classes at work, and now I am taking a class in the evening. I just can't get enough of it! :)
Does anyone have any suggestions of Zumba workout videos that I could do at home?! :)

I love Zumba and have a hard time getting myself to do anything else. I do it using the Xbox Kinects and I love all of the games. I did a live class once, but have not been able to go back due to weather and family needs. It's nice that I can always do the Zumba in my basement though.

I am even getting my sister into it. I'm hoping she'll learn to love it like I do.

Hello! :)
I'm Terry :) I started Zumba in March 2013..I loved it so much that I went to instructor class in July and started teaching in August.
I only teach 2 classes per week now, but I plan to add more soon. I love it because you don't feel like you are working out and it's never monotonous.

Good morning, I do zumba 2-3 times a week at LA Fitness.

It's not as easy as I thought it was going to be. Hope to make some friends here!

Hello! Just joined SparkPeople today specifically for this group! I've been Zumbaing for close to a year now (on and off, '13's holiday season was a tough one for me) and felt the need to reach out to others that love Zumba as well. I started out with the live classes but the times I took made me feel isolated, so I went to the DVDs, until they all had issues playing.

I ordered the Exhilarate system through a third party and I think that was my mistake. I think they repackaged them or something because all of my devices said there was an error playing them. Then RL smacked me in the face. Family illnesses and stress from work kicked me around for a while.

I've ordered the new system from the official shop so I am hoping that I can try to stay more consistent. I have been dabbling with the idea of taking the instructor's course but I've been out of it for so long, I don't know if I could last all day.

I'm hoping to make some friends in the Zumba community!

Hello everyone! My name is Janet and I started Zumba very infrequently about 6 months ago. However, I thoroughly enjoy it and recently bought some DVD's and started regularly last week.

I joined SP in September. I joined a gym in October and started Zumba then. Depending on my work schedule I can make it to anywhere form 1-3 classes a week. I just bought some DVDs so I can do Zumba at home when I can't make a class.

Hi everyone! I have been a Zumba lover since last July. I was converted after seeing a good friend of mine constantly posting about how much she was enjoying the classes. I have always been a big fan of dancing and I rather enjoy being in an accepting environment where it doesn't matter if I'm overweight. Too often you can feel ashamed by how you look, but for me, every Zumba class has served as a safe haven for me to do something I truly enjoy and lose weight/get in shape without worrying about being judged.

Hi everyone!

I'm Amanda and I have been LOVING Zumba since
January 2012!

I started out going twice a week at a gym, then moved to once a week at the library with WiiZumba in between. I currently do 3-4 times a week at a beautiful dance studio!

I have always done Zumba Basic, but I recently tried my first Zumba Toning class with the 2.5 lb Toning Sticks. (WOW! And I thought Zumba Basic was intense!) I definitely underestimated the Toning Sticks because my arms were on fire after my Toning class!

I also recently started doing two classes back to back on Thursday nights (Zumba Basic followed by Zumba Toning) and I feel so amazing afterwards! Tired and sweaty, but amazing! My Thursday night Zumba Basic class is a "Black Out" class. This is where all the lights are turned off, the disco lights are on and everyone is wearing neon bracelets! So much fun!

I look forward to talking to more people who love Zumba as much as I do! :)

Hello all! Just getting active on Spark again and just took my first Zumba class. It wasn't pretty, but oh my I'm hooked! Since I can only go to a class one night per week I rushed to my local gamestop and purchased Zumba for my grandchildren's Wii so I can practice at home. What a fun way to keep moving and burning calories! Any tips for a newbie?

HI! Everyone! I love ZUMBA! I have been zumbaing since Nov. 2012! Way fun!

I DO wish there was a team goal of something I could join to put into my 'other' goals, list. I do not Zumba 5 days a week! The other option doesn't show up in my tracker, for this team! Oh Well! Maybe I should join a different team. I just thought there would be ALLOT of interest because there are SO many members! Anyway.... check out my spark page if you want to learn more about me!

With New Years around the corner, I have decided NOT to make resolutions! Just keeping with my goals & what I already KNOW works! That way I can't fail! I have my visions on my start page! I read them EVERY day & re-commit to myself!

I've met 2 Spark people in the flesh! VERY fun! Hope to meet more, one day! (Hint hint AJ, I'm coming to L.A. for Oscar events.... maybe this time!)

Happy Sparking everyone!

Hola! I wanted to introduce myself to this group because I LOVE Zumba! I've been attending a live class for the past year or so - and it has become my all time favorite workout! I recently got Zumba 2 game for the wii and have only played it a couple of times but really enjoying it so far!

I live in Columbus, OH with my 2 year old son and my husband of 3 years. I've been overweight for as long as I can remember. The past year has been spent learning to eat better and live better. I haven't seen a HUGE amount of weight being shed just yet, 20 lbs so far. I keep yoyoing back and forth. I'll lose 10lbs, gain 5 back, lose 2 and gain 7. It''s a vicious cycle emoticon However, I'm certain that 2014 will be my year to kick it up an notch and lose the weight I've wanted to for so long!

Hope to get to know everyone!

Hi Zumba Aficionados,

Ok, I usually don't introduce myself to forums nor do I post often preferring to lurk and chime in when something particular moves me. But Zumba always moves me hence this post.

I am a bit of a rare bird as I am a man and even more unusual I should be in Zumba Gold but I have been blessed with enough energy to keep up and even lead in regular, high energy classes.

I have always practiced physical education and about 3 years ago was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. Needless to say this was a very stressful, fearful time and, thanks to Spin, a 21 day water-fast, chemotherapy and radiation got through it all and now back to my healthy, always-jumping-around self. Then I went for a PSA exam and my doctor told me it was high. OH OH! Another cancer scare was on the way. I researched the psa test and found out that doing a lot of spin can cause an erratic psa due to the pounding of the bicycle seat on your ... how shall is say this ... manly parts. I was in a real quandary, spin made me feel quite good, but it was possibly responsible for this high psa test. What to do? My experience has always shown me that the ladies know how to do aerobics better than anyone. There were lots of them rushing off to something called "Zumba" so I decided to follow them once more.
Boy am I ever glad I did! My first Zumba class was a revelation! It was more than fun, it was beyond great! emoticon It brought me back to when I was a teenager and went dancing every night of the week. I also lucked out that my teacher was a former professional dancer and one of the best instructors in Canada.
At the end of that last class I told her that I was going to switch from Spin to Zumba and also that my regular Nike's were sticky. She suggested buying a pair of Zigs. Next class 2 days later I was wearing my Reebok Crosby Zigs and have never looked back since.
What about that worrisome PSA test result... like magic it went back down to normal... so it must have been the spin.
Today, my wife and I are very fortunate and happy campers. We are living full time in a beautiful, Mexican port right on the tropic of cancer. We are going to outdoor Zumba classes on a basketball court 3 times a week for free emoticon
My wife is now able to attend Zumba and she is almost as addicted as I am. She likes to stand in the sunny section while I prefer to Zumba in the shade (as I like to push it to 95% of the instructor's speed)
She says that she has noticed that she can swim much better in the Oceanside pool at our condo and she is starting to lose weight. When January comes around I will put her on a water-fast to reset her system combined with 3 Zumbas and 3 weight sessions per week, plus swimming and boogie-boarding so she should be in great health for many years to come.

Ok guess that's enough for now. Much too long. Sorry but I was a teacher for most of my life and we tend to go on.... and on emoticon
