Kayem,

So glad to have you and so glad the book has been an inspiration. I am doing the online work. It's slower going than I thought it would be (got to be honest) but I'm not the least bit sorry I spent the money, as I see that these things have to be handled or it will be just one more diet. Slim people face all the difficulties we do but handle them differently; perhaps not always better, but differently and I believe we can learn to do that, too, without taking up even worse habits. Let's hope we can all keep supporting each other.

Hi All! Just found this site about two weeks ago and one of the first things I saw was someone recommending this book. So I started the diet AND the book at the same time. I've never read a "self-help" book before, but I have to tell you, I sat reading the book and doing the exercises with a highlighter in hand. I always knew I was an emotional eater but never understood what it meant. From the get-go, the book drew me in and I identified with so much.

I did finish the book, but it's always by my side. I've copied some of the passages that meant a lot to me onto index cards and carry them with me wherever I go. My job takes me on the road and when I've had a bad day, I've often found myself pulling into McDonalds...well, you know the rest, I'm sure.

Although only two weeks in, this book and this site have been a lifesaver for me. I'm motivated and I think I understand more about why I needed food and that in fact, it probably is an addiction.

I hope to be able to contribute more to this team. Thanks for being here!

Glad to see lots of new members! This team has been a little slow lately so I'm hoping with new members there will be more posting to the chapter threads so we can get some discussion going again. I am currently working through the exercises in the 2nd half of the book.

Hi everyone
Was very surprised and pleased in finding this forum. I have read some of the book but not been very focused, for weeks I have been deciding if to join the on line program the trouble is I don't tend to stick to anything and waste my money, I have joined a number of slimming clubs. Good luck everyone

I hope this team helps you. In the end, it's still you that has to either eat or do something else. I'm struggling with this now that I'm back to work after a summer off. I get so overwhelmed that trying to do other soothing things just doesn't sound as convenient. But it's also not convenient to be having the scale go up and down the same five pounds. Good luck to all of us, if only for the next hour!

Welcome BREEFAWN! I think Dr. Gould's book or online program would definitely help you - he is all about emotional eating! Good luck in starting fresh in September - I am doing the same!

Hi everyone! I'm new to this team, but not new to SparkPeople. I have been looking at the online version of Shrink Yourself...but am a little skeptical. I have emotional eating issues, LOTS of them. I eat when I'm happy or sad or depressed or bored or even before I realize I'm doing it. I don't know why this is, but it doesn't happen everyday. There are days where I do great, but others where I hate myself for eating constantly. I am trying to make September a perfect month, so I thought that dealing with my emotional eating issues would be a good idea. So, in short, I'm following the ADD diet and mixing it up with FIRM and Turbo Jam for exercise. Hopefully I can get a handle on my eating issues.
