I'd make sure to read the book completely first, before deciding to sign up for the on-line course. I sat down and read through the book, because it was so interesting. I used a Yellow Marker and wrote in it like a textbook, because I was really STUDYING it like one. The course is NOT expensive. If you have quit eating junk food, then use that money to pay for the course, if you really NEED the course. It is an investment in yourself. I think taking the 12 weeks gives you time to work through each lesson and to mull over it during the week. This deals with some deep emotional issues, so it isn't something Dr. Gould sees as an "instant fix."
Welcome Carewren! It's great that you started the book. It's going to get you working on some really tough issues! But I believe it is possible for us to eventually break free from eating too much and eating without control. One memeber, Leslie, is currently working through the online program and providing feedback, but I think everyone else is using the book. Anyway, it's great to have you here!

I'm in the same boat as Shannon. I just started reading the book. I'm not sure I want to spend the money for the online program.
I have had trouble with binge eating FOREVER! I was bulimic for about 25 years when, after bingeing, I would vomit. Now, I don't do that but, let me tell you, sometimes I still want to!
I joined the Living Binge Free team.
I really need to lose weight because I turn 60 (argh!) this Sept. and my life insurance policy will need to be renewed and it won't be if I am still so overweight. You know, those insurance tables are ridiculous but I need to at least be closer to those numbers than I am now!
I don't necessarily binge but I tend to eat ALL the time I am awake! I am lucky that I don't wake up in the night and go eat!

I broke down yesterday and ordered the book. My library did not have it but I was able to find a good deal online. I am really wanting to do the online program but my husband is balking a bit at the cost so I decided to try the book first since I knew he wouldn't have any issues with that cost.
I also ordered the workbook to Beck's book. I've been reading that book which I got from the library but really wanted something I could write in/highlight, etc.
I found both of the books for a very low price (~$4) but through a dealer who only ships 3 day delivery so the shipping was $8/each (no combined shipping). I still thought overall that was a good price on the book plus I'll get it quicker.
I had ordered Beck's workbook through another dealer online and something must have happened in transit because he refunded my money around the day it should have arrived.
Hi Shannon, I just joined too, and I've started the online course. I've completed the introductory session and the course material for week one. I still have to do the week one workbook, and there is daily journalling to do with it also. So far it is really interesting, and a bit scarey... it just might help me figure myself out. I joined so I can hear what you all have to say about the book and/or online program. I just heard about this from Wendie on Living Binge Free this week. I went online and did a free session and learned something even just from that quick exercise so I am strongly considering the online program but wanted to get some feedback from others before I decide to go forward with it because of the cost.
I have been having issues with binge eating for about 10 yrs now. It ebbs and flows in terms of severity and it has not been so bad over the last several months since I joined (and now co-lead) the Living Binge Free team. But, alas, it is still very much so a part of my daily life and I am getting a little on the desperate side because I really need to lose weight over this next year.
Anyway, that is all - I hope you all will not mind me listening in on your conversation until I decide what to do.
