Hi Kelly!

Best wishes with your lifestyle changes!! It's never easy to receive that type of news, but the good thing is that you're motivated to make the changes necessary! (:

[I'm from NZ too, just no longer living there. ):]

Hi Kelly, having type 2 is not a joy, but there are a lot of aspects that you can control to reduce the risk of complications. Use the nutrition tracker on here to set up a diabetes meal plan. A lot of us find that taking daily walks helps to reduce our bs readings and helps with weight control. Check our the American Diabetes Association website to get an idea of all the tests that your physician should be doing. Don't take for granted that just because they are in the medical profession that they are all knowing. My first doctor never did a kidney check and thanks to the American Diabetes Association I quickly realized that she did not know how to treat diabetes. I changed doctors and found out that I have a problem with microalbumin.

Awww, sorry to hear about the news. I was diagnosed in 2010. It is a shock when you're told. HOWEVER, I'm here to tell you it can be the beginning of a healthy life if you really do pay attention to what you eat and exercise! Good luck to you and blessings.

Have you read Dr. Mark Hyman's book The Blood Sugar Solution. Good suggestions for how to handle your lifestyle.

Of course, ask any questions too.

Bottom line . . . educate yourself. That's your best weapon.

My doctor broke the news to me yesterday. I have developed Type 2 Diabetes... sigh.
Rather a shock, but I think this may be my body's way of telling me to 'get my s**t together' and to lose weight, be active and be healthy!

So I will!
