Yes, CATH, I'm so glad you mentioned us to YOOVIE. She definitely gets more than her share of Sparkies who believe they can dictate to others how to behave and what to think or say or write--all because they have "gawd" on their side. Keep on spreading the word about the team. You never know when someone needs us, no matter how strong they are. We have feelings. And enough "looking down on us" brings us down, at least for a moment.

As our new team members might suspect, I am spiritual, but not religious (an online quiz called me a spiritual atheist). I appreciate those on the team who ARE religious, because they are not mean-spirited and intolerant of other viewpoints. Not only can we "get along", we can move as "one" in our diversity.

That feeling of safety and mutual respect is important when we are working to lose weight, get fit, and carve out a new way of living that keeps us healthy. That is our main focus. We rarely discuss religious, unless someone bugs us and we need to vent. This is where I come when I want to feel understood, and it really helps because feeling misunderstood is one of the things that hurts the most, for me.

Hang tough, yinz-all. Let's get rid of some more of this crappy weight and make our muscles strong!!!

Exactly! I'll second that with an "OH, splat!!!"

There are a slew of icons that we could have used before we got to that one. Where are the green bicycles, the preying mantis, the owls, the hairy bikers' butts, the honeybees, the grizzly bears, the yardbird, the stripper poles, the high heels with fish in them, the .....

Praying hands icons and not one preying mantis!! I am per-klempt, whatever that is.

lol well I DID eat a ton of all kinds of fruit while pregnant with her ...her hair is actually black now , dyed to cover the blue because she decided to try out public school last year. She has decided that she has had enough of that thankyouverymuch so it will likely be blue again...or maybe black with red streaks.....

No worries, SKNY. You are not the only Christian here. We have even enjoyed the company of a couple of female ministers. They liked us. Go figure.

I doubt that anyone will be moved to throw rotten fruit at you. Anyone who likes the idea of taking personal responsibility for doing the work needed for our Spark mission of getting healthier and who has no plans to tell us what we need to do, throw biblical stuff at us (with a superior tone), or look at us funny for our blue hair is sure to be popular.

Your 12-yr-old's blue hair does not bother us. Did you eat an excessive amount of blueberries during your pregnancy, or did your child get blue hair the way I got mine? I may not have mentioned it to the team, but I had my purple streaks changed to peacock blue a couple of weeks ago.

Gasp! Taking personal responsibility! Oh that is so nice to read it seems to be a concept that few adults seem to understand anymore. I happen to be Christian ...please don't start throwing things!!! :D I live in the bible belt and get shunned for the dumbest things
By other Christians...like my 12 year olds blue hair. I don't care if you are Buddhist Wiccan, gay, straight,bi,etc
I don't plan on telling you what you need, throw bible versus at you,etc
So hopefully you guys won't kick me out of here :D

The FSM is my personal favorite, if I had to choose.

Taking personal responsibility instead of relying on some outside magical force for problem-solving is my thing, too. If a given form of religious thought floats someone else's boat, I'm happy for them. I just prefer that I not be treated as a second-class citizen because I'm different.

I guess I meant references to God/Jesus and going to church/praying as if those things will solve all my problems or the lack of them are the root of my problems. I'm not against it for others (to each their own and whatever works), it's just not my thing. If I have to choose I'm a flying spaghetti moster supporter. Becase He is awesome. rAmen!

Yes, we sometimes lift Bibles for strength training, FARAWAY.

I'm glad we have this opportunity to individually express our support for the example you are setting for the Sparkies at large, YOOVIE. There are so MANY of the "religion is all that matters", rigid, close-minded types. It's good to know that everyone isn't like that. You rock!

We are having the team party over at "Wahoo Surprise" to thank friends like CATHM26 and the fabulous DALAI_LALA for spreading the word about Separation of Church and Weight. The rest of you who have been doing the same thing, stop in and tell us about it. It's your party, too.

See yinz in the funny papers.

Welcome everyone!

FARAWAY ... we do occasionally mention God and Jesus, but probably not in a way that the Bible-lifting Sparkers would appreciate. :)

YOOVIE ... It's nice to see that your blogs are public again. Although I had only read a few before you took a "hiatus," I was disappointed that a small group of people could be so mean. Nice to know that you got back up and didn't let them get the upper hand.

I found this team link on YOOVIE's page (love her blogs!) and am so excited!!! It will be nice to have a place on SP where God/Jesus aren't mentioned. Finally a place I won't feel quite so alien.
