Hi There, Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Vicki. I signed up on SP about two years ago and sporadically logged in. I've had many ups and downs the last couple of years and just recently have decided that enough is enough. I'm ready to take care of myself and climb out of the hole I dug myself into. I'd like to use SP as a tool to meet my weight loss goals and also a place to keep me motivated (and organized!) I'm hoping seeing all my goals and weight stats on the screen will keep me accountable. I also find reading other blogs and posts inspiring. I'm hoping when I log in this time next year I will have met my goals. Wish me luck :-)

Hey Sharon!!! Glad you're here.

For those who don't know - Sharon is now a co-leader of this team. Treat her well!! And wow, I hope there are still people on this team who read these posts. We've kinda dwindled in the past year.

As for me, I'll be having open heart surgery on Monday. So while you haven't seen much of me since April, you'll probably see even less of me over the next couple of months while I rehab and recover. I wish all of you well. I will be blogging (as soon as I'm able to), and as soon as I can return regularly to my computer and SP ... I'll be here more often.

Thanks Sharon for taking over the reins!!

Alan

I thought I would post something about me here, so everyone can get to know me.
My name is Sharon and I live in Eastern North Carolina on a small farm or homestead. We raise a lot of our own meat (chicken, geese, ducks, rabbits, quail, pheasants) and have a garden growing almost all year. I am 44 and have 4 grown children and 2 grandchildren, married to a great guy, Steve for the last 3 years. I have around 60 more pounds to lose to be down at my goal weight and I am shooting for my birthday of April 12, 2010 as my goal date.
Hope to get to know everyone here and wish everyone the best on their journey to a healthy YOU!

Hi everyone, I started end of August and am just learning to get around the site. I am hoping to lose weight and become more healthy. I also fell off the wagon and am getting back on. We are having a contest at work and whoever looses the most body fat per % will win $600.00 so I am hoping it is me.

Hi everyone. I am finally getting around to making good use of this site! I joined back in August, but I have puttered around and not been consistent with healthy food choices and exercise. In fact, I would say I fell completely off the wagon! I made a new committment to myself a few days ago and have been going strong so far! I have joined a challenge and am committed to tracking (honestly) my food and fitness. I am looking forward to seeing what I can accomplish using all that SparkPeople has available to me.

I am tired of being my own roadblock!

Since I never really made me introduction I figure now is good as time as any. So I am a 27 year old mother of a 4 year old daughter. She is my main motivation to do this. I would love to be able to keep up and play with her all day long. Plus I would love to fit back into my favorite pair of jeans that I had before I was pregnant.

Hi! I'm 32, female and have always been overweight. I joined spark people in hopes of finding others like me and for the added motivation.

Since Nov. of last year I have gone from 282 to 232. That is a major milestone, but I do not 'see' the weight loss that others 'see' on me.

My short term goal is to be 220 for New Year's Eve. My long term goal is to be 120-130. I know it's a loooong way to go.

Hi, my name is Bonnie and I actually joined SP back in August, but didn't really start doing anything until the end of Sept. I'm still learning about the site and exploring the Teams. I'm not really having a problem with managing my food as I've been on Weight Watchers (and kept my weight off, just decided to try to lose some more and didn't want to pay to do so), but the exercising is a real challenge for me.

Welcome!!!

This is a great team - and we are here to lose weight. There is a social aspect to that as well; because we need to learn about each other to be able to give the support and motivation you all are looking for.

I do think this team offers a lot of different things - and you get out of it what you want to take from it...

So welcome and jump right in! Let us know how we can help you meet your goals!!!

Change is whats hard, but its change that will reveal all the wonders that life has to offer

I decide to try this team out. I have a few teams and one that I lead. Some of the teams I have seem to be inactive, so I am assessing and trying. Several of the teams I have are new small teams, but no activity. So I am here.

HI everyone. I am from Dallas, TX and started SP on August 23rd. This is my second time on SP...the first time in 2006 I lost 40 pounds but I stopped all the good habits that I learned and gained it all back plus 5 pounds. I have lost 13.6 so far in less than 4 weeks and I am so thrilled. I can't wait to make it to goal this time and keep it off. I definately learned after last time. Look forward to talking with you all, even though I also have another very supportive team from my first go around as well that are still active. Have a great weekend!

Hello all I am new to team but not to Spark. I am one of Jenn72 spark buddies and I told her that I would join in with you all.

I am 45 yrs old from SC. Happily married to a wonderful supportive husband. I have 2 children and 3 step children and 2 grandchild.

I joined spark in April and I have found that instead of being on another yo-yo diet fad. That I was making a life style change. I believe that is the success with spark. Plus we have wonderful people that are big motivators as well that keep you moving ahead toward your goals. I look forward to getting to know all of you much better.

If You want to be with a great Team that will keep you on the right track come join us!

Dittbenner - I went to Piccadilly with my Aunt last night as she insisted they had good food. The brocolli listed on their website listed low calories and 7 grams of fat. I asked what they were cooked in - and it was a stick of butter. The fish was swimming in butter (no pun!) I didn't see anything healthy on the menu that was listed on their website. Boy do they sneak it in!

Wow! Great to have you on board! I had a surprise today....I got on the scale and GAINED 5 LBS!!!!! How...I don't know. I have been eating out a lot lately, but I'm careful with my selections and have been eating within my calorie limits! This is why I get so frustrated. My trainer says that its all the added stuff in the restaurant foods.....I can't seem to get it right at all! On a positive note...I have gone 5 days with tracking food!

Hey Team,

Just introducing myself. I'm Cyndy and I live in California. I joined SparkPeople the last week of August, just like you! In the past, I had a successful run at losing weight. I lost 50 lbs in 2004/2005 and kept most of it off... then I got stuck. Too many reasons to go into.. but now I want ti UNSTICK and lose the pounds I gained plus about 50 more. That would be sweet.

I look forward to more messages... reading and sending. Good luck to everyone!

Hi, My name is Kim. I joined Spark the end of August but today marks the first day on my journey to getting healthier :) My long term goal is to reach my desired weight by my 40th/ birthday in Nov. 2009. I also have a 3 month goal, but for now I am going to take it day by day and celebrate the smaller wins! Like today I started measuring my food and eating smaller portions, and will also begin logging food and activity online as well as keeping my own personal diary. It's a start!!!

We just moved back to Canada after 3 years overseas(loved it!) Now we're getting settled into our new place in Embrun, which is a small little town outside of Ottawa.

Look forward to getting more familiar with boards and meeting more of you!
All the best to you all~

Hello :)

I'm 29, female, from the philippines, single and ... oooverrweight.

Just like Rita, I joined SP because I want to get my life back on track.

I used to enjoy outdoor activities before, i.e mountain climbing, rowing, etc but have stopped to do such activities when i started gaining 30 pounds.

Now, i'm more determined than ever to get back on shape... be fit and fab before i hit 30 next year. yeah! :)

Hi All:

I'm Rita, 49, happily married, but overweight and out of shape. I joined SP because I've reached that point where I feel ready to get my life back on track, and my weight under control.

Looking at my husband, I'm embarrassed to see what I've allowed myself to become. Over the past few years, I've watched him gradually lose a good 60 pounds & keep it off. He's got energy, he runs & is very active now. It saddens me that I simply can't do what he does, let alone keep up.

Yesterday I started tracking calories, tomorrow I start an exercise plan. Next year, as I turn 50 I will be Fit & Fab! (Hows that for positive thinking! ;))

Looking forward to this journey, and getting to know all of you. Together we can & will reach our goals!

Hi Ditt. You need to create your SparkPage. When you're setting it up, at the bottom is the weight ticker setup. If you don't have a Sparkpage, you won't be able to show the ticker (at least that's I'm pretty sure that's the case).

I just realized I never introduced myself. I am Kelly I am 33 and I live in both Georgia and Alabama I do it for family reasons. It gets tough but we do what we need to do. I run my own business which makes it a little easier.

Of course diet, exercise, and myself get put on the back burner at times. I am excited to start focusing on my health and get myself in shape.

I would love one day to run in a marathon, but I am a long way from there.

I wish everyone the best in their journey!!!

Hello, I joined SparkPeople about a week ago and thought I should introduce myself to this message board. I'm random00b (female, early 30s). I'm walking around with an extra 20lbs and, since I'm not getting any younger, it's time for me to do something about it in a much less cavalier way (as in, actually track stuff). Voila, sparkpeople.

I look forward to getting to know fellow team members over the coming weeks and months. I wish everyone good luck on the journey toward optimal health!

Hi! I'm Kim. Losing weight and keeping it off is a huge battle for me. I'm 33, 5 ft tall and weight 200. Yikes! I promised myself I'd never be there again. I need constant reminders that I can do this..I work out about 4 or 5 days a week..so that is not the problem..its the staying motivated and saying no that kills me! I'm hoping that by talking to people who know what I am talking about..I'll be able to release more frustrations.

Hi,

I just realized that I have not posted here. I joined the challenge, but did not introduce myself. I am an almost 40-year-old stay-at-home mother of two, ages 8 and 5. I work as an editor in the evenings from my home.

I joined SparkPeople exactly one year ago, lost 10 lbs., and then life got in the way and I gained it back plus two. Now, I'm back and committed to getting these pounds off. I am already very active. I was a runner, but have recently had to stop due to continued various injuries. So, I'm trying to figure out how to get in my cardio. I'm power walking and going to try swimming.

I'm excited about making this happen!

WOW, this is so new to me, my girls can do this kind of stuff with their eyes closed. I'm no 40, and haven't weighed this much in never. I keep thinking that there is something medically wrong but that is only wishful thinking. I really need to exercise and eat healthier. Most would say I look fine but it is really up to me and how I feel....right?

I went to the doctors last week.It was a big shock to me and I was so mad at myself for putting on all that weight in one year!! So I have 17 pounds to lose to get back to my goal weight before i got married. It would be fun talking with you ...hope to hear from you soon!

Hi! My name is Leslie. I am a busy mom to 2 girls, 3 year old Nevaeh, and almost (October) 2 year old Brianna. I gained ALOT of weight during pregnancy, lost alot, gained it back plus some... normal cycle of weight loss. I would like to loss 60 lbs. and it would be GREAT if I could do it by my 21st birthday on June 6!

I am also a receptionist (read:sit on my butt all day) and full time student. I have a very hectic and busy life with little time for exercise and fast food has become too close of a friend for me! I would like to strive for 10 minutes a day at first on the treadmill (Thanks to a gracious donation!) and gradually work my way up to 1-2 miles a day, which is what I used to do 4-5 times a week.

~Leslie~

March Goal:
Lose 5 lbs.

2009 Goal:
Lose 50 lbs.!!

10% Goal:
Lose 22 lbs. from SW by June..
My 21st Birthday is June 6 and I will turn heads that day!!

"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, "I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along." . . . You must do the thing you think you cannot do. "

Hi everyone! My name is Cassi and I am training for my first sprint triathlon. I joined SP a week ago so that I could better keep track of my calories in / calories out. So far I love it!
I would love to lose about 15 pounds, by the end of October.

Hi! I'm a 61 year old Gramma who is approaching my second childhood and I want to be a healthy kiddo when I get there. Been working out with a personal trainer for 2 months and starting to see some results. Mr. Trainer demanded that I join Sparkspeople, log in my intake/output, so here I am! Looking forward to getting to know the team and giving/receiving support.

Hello. I am soon to be 37 y/o divorced mother of 3 boys who are my world. I first began to have problems with my weight with my first pregnancy. I gained way too much during, and it took over two years to finally lose it all. before my last pregnancy, i gained over 150 pounds, so fast i am not sure where it came from. I am basically a healthy person, but I just had surgery last week to have my gall bladder removed, and am waiting to finish healing from that before I try to get motivated on exercise. I have already begun to change my diet (drastically) and that alone has helped me to lose quite a few pounds over the last few months. my goal is to get down to at the most 160, and right now that means losing about 125 pounds. this time tho, Im sure that I can do it. not only because I want to, but because I have to.. there really isnt much choice in the matter.. If i want to live a healthier lifestyle then i have to make it happen.

Hi! I'm a soon-to-be 43 year old married for 23 years, with a wonderful 17 year old daughter female.

I was a thin child and healthy weight teen. I married young at 19 to an "older" man (26). Due to being "free" from a dysfunctional home life and married to a supportive spouse , I seem to have lost all sense of self-control and refused to put boundaries on myself. I probably gained 20 lbs. that first year and never looked back. I have lost weight twice. The last time was 50 lbs. in 2001. I am not as large size-wise as I was, but pounds-wise I am now.

I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine at night. I hate it but the only way to get rid of it is to lose weight. I am a school psychologist with a very unstructured day. In dealing with special ed. kids (learning disabled and/or emotionally disturbed) is difficult and very stressful. I have gained weight since I started 4 years ago. I have suffered depression since I was 13 and have decided to stay on medication to prevent occurrences. Antidepressants can lead to weight gain.

I have eaten a lot of pasta since I got married. My husband says I eat more carbs than anyone he has ever met. In doing research, I find carbs make serotonin, which helps regulate emotion and appetite. Therefore, I've been self-medicating for years. I'm trying the Serotonin Power Diet in an effort to regulate my moods and appetite. My issue now is getting myself to exercise. I seem to be an all-or-nothing person. If I skip a day, I'm done forever!!! Motivation to eat right has come, but the motivation to move my butt has not! HELP! I appreciate any and all encouragement I can get and will try to do the same. GOOD TO BE HERE! Lori emoticon

Hi Everyone,

My name is Samantha and I'm 25 years old. I've been struggling with my weight for several years now. My husband and I do tend to yo-yo together and what I think I really need is good resources!!

We're currently trying to get pregnant but I'd like to lose some weight in the mean time!

I've been tracking my food and water intake and so far so good!
I'm still trying to get the hang of this site but am confident that it'll come with time!

I'm 25 years old and I've been married for three years. I have no children and don't want any until I'm healthy. I'm going to school to be a nurse so it's important to me to be in good condition. I don't want to have a heart attack walking around the hospital.

Hi! Guess I should have posted 2 weeks ago, but was busy trying everything out. emoticon and that's no joke. My name is Dawn, married for 16 years in November and I homeschool 2 of my 3 boys (8th & 3rd grade). The 3rd will be 3 December, so I won't start him for a couple of years. Also, my DH and I run our own company, I do the office/scheduling and he does the labor end of it.

We both decided to get healthy all because of our 13 year old(14 in October), he hit his teens and has really been trying us this summer. Anyway, we bought a Boflex for him and us to use, to help him use up some of his energy on something good, himself. Well, my husband has always wanted the proverbial 6-pack and thought he'd start working on it. He didn't really need to loose weight, but he has and looks fantastic. I on the other hand, after college, no one to run with and 3 kids could stand to loose about 65 lbs, but my ultimate goal is 75 lbs.

Since my husband is so into this, and he now sees how much easier it is said to do than actually doing it, he's working it with me. He just gets to eat more, but healthy it's been. We've been at this since the middle of July, 08 and I've actually lost 18 lbs since the end of June and I still want to lose the 75. It's a long journey, but for the first time, with SP and my wonderful DH, I feel like I will succeed.

Also, this is only the 2nd time in 19 years that I've ever tried to loose. I started Weight Watchers about 7 years ago after my second son, started at 241 and lost 25 lbs. Then my oldest had an accident, which caused some other issues and I had to stop WW. Then life took over again and unfortunately, so did the old habits. I know and knew what to do, it was just doing it. Anyway, I'm on the right track now and that's all that's important. And when I have bad days and I fall off the wagon, I know to just get up, dust myself off and do it all over again, the right way.

Have a great one guys and I'm looking forward to meeting some of you and all of us sharing our successes!!

Hey everybody! My name is Chris and I'm 24. I can definitely afford to lose some poundage. I started exercising and living healthy about a year and a half ago only to gain most of the weight back. I'm here though to get some support and stay motivated. Nice to see that there are so many people that actually care about their health!

Headed to the laundromat and the gym!

Hi all. I'm Brad, and I'm a really big, tall Texas guy who'd like to get, well, just tall. A friend just pointed me to SparkPeople. I'm still learning what's here, but already I've been eating less and moving more.

Ultimately I'd like to drop about half (!) my current weight, but my more immediate goal is for next summer. I'm in a men's chorus that will be competing in an international contest then, and I need to be in much better shape to hold up. That'll take dropping over 100 pounds in less than a year, but I'm confident I can with the tools and support here.

Hello team!! My name is Lin and I have been a member for a week now, but just joined my team and made a goal. Not a very good start for accountability for me. I am hoping that not only can I get the help that I need to lose 55 pounds but also to be able to help others in their journey of losing weight!!

Since I started dating my now husband in 2001 - I had gained 55 pounds and have since lost in the last year 20 pounds. Not only do I not feel healthy but I do not look healthy either. And I know the older I get means the harder it is to lose weight and the harder it is for my muscles and bones too!

Well, there you have my story! As soon as I can figure out how to make my page and get some pictures on and the things most computer guru's know, I will do that. But most importantly, I am here and keeping my accountability in check!

Hope you all have a safe Labor Day!!

Hi All. Posted this a couple of days ago to another team when I jouned SP. Just getting around to introducing myself to other temams. Better late than never :)

I'm Alan and I'm from Long Island, NY (duh :-). Early last year, I'd have thought being healthy again was impossible for me. Way back when (remember the 70's? :-), I was ultra-athletic and fit (and skinny) until I blew out my knee playing soccer and while the activity stopped, the eating didn't. Pretty mych spent the next 30+ years on a weight roller coaster - losing weight, then gaining it back (and then some) with an added medical condition to go with it. Basically I readched a point where I was not only fat, but damn unhealthy (as in "how far away could death be?" :-)

So I finally decided to take life back into my control and have spent the last year+ changing the "A" to an "I" and going from "fat" to "fit". I'm actually happy with where I am now weight- and fitness-wise, but the fear of putting a couple of pounds back on (because a couple sometimes leads to many) drives me to get to a weight loss "ceiling" of 200. Almost there. And now SP was recommended to me as a place to help monitor and track my healthy lifestyle.

So here I am!! Have a great Labor Day Weekend and look forward to hearing from some of you.

Alan

Hi, I'm 39 and from Australia. I plan to do the calorie counting... I've never ever done that before believe it or not. But it makes scientific sense which appeals to me rather than guessing... or a vague points plan. I want to make daily exercise a welcome part of my life. I'm very keen to make sure I eat at least 5 vegies and 2 pieces of fruit a day and I'm desperate to fit into my clothes again... being single I feel that i really have to look my best...

Also, officially I'm only I think half a kilo overweight (1 pound)... but I know that weight creeps up pound by pound and before you know it you are very overweight. I used to always fluctuate between 48 and 52 kilos and now I'm 61! I want to get back to the lower end of the spectrum.

And SparkPeople looks like a motivating and nicely staged program... and if any of you are interested in starting to run if you've never run before google C25K which stands for couch to 5 kilometres... it's a fabulous program that starts off gently... I highly recommend it. I now consider myself a runner and I could NEVER run for more than 1 minute before without thinking I was going to die :-) and then I ran 12km in March of this year.

AND clearly I talk too much!!!! Hmmm... I'll make that one of my goals... run more... talk less.
