I am focusing on going to exercise, drinking water and eating healthy all day. I spend a lot of time cooking shopping and cooking healthy. That makes me feel successful. I enjoy visiting SP and tracking my progress. I try to simplify my life in all other areas so I can do more of what I love:)

HI there, I really want to have a balance in my life and one major part of it is to clean, de-clutter my life and house. I am not working outside of the home and wish I could have the energy that most people have. Anyways, can't wait to start. Janice

Hi, all! I'm here in hopes of finding a way (or three) of digging my way out of the clutter in my home, in my head and in my heart.
One step at a time, each day as it comes.
With your help, I am sure it can be done!

Is starting over, each & every morning!

I joined SP a few months ago and have since then seen a see-saw effect take place in my weight and in my life. I was in school, after 31 years, but had to drop out due to a husband who has cancer and a daughter who is bipolar. I have not been able to exercise at my gym for lack of a car because it has been in the shop for two weeks. But, thanks to SP's video's. I am still able to keep up with my strength training. I have been doing a lot of comfort eating - and I know why - but I try to be gentle with myself and bring my focus to one point. That is all I can deal with in this moment I am glad to find a team that concentrates on the essential things in life - de-cluttering, simplifying.

I joined SP about a week ago and am thrilled at the variety of topics and support available. I have about 56 lbs. to lose and would love to simplify my life along the way too. My husband always tells me that I complicate things by trying to do too much and then don't get anything done--he's right about that! It always amazes me that when I slow down, I do better. Looking forward to learning what everyone else is doing to simplify!

I am carmen Gonzalez, from PUERTO RICO. I am glad I found this team. I am 130 pounds overweight and starting to feel burnout, stressed and overwhelm with the speed of life. I want to slow down and start to enjoy life for sure, besides to get a new healthy life style. I hope I will find some peace of mind in this team, enjoyment and lots of friends.

There's nothing wrong with using the word "diet". It comes from the Greek word "diaita", meaning way of life. So to lose weight and keep it off we need to change our way of life.

HI, this is a new team for me. I saw that "C" word and my home is full of it. I thought maybe I could get some tips. I just moved from a house into an apartment and I have too many things. but, as I see it, they are all necessary. Somehow I need to change my opinion on that. So I thought just maybe this group would be an asset to me. Glad you are here..

New to Spark in March. I became so fascinated with your Decluttering forum that I forgot to introduce myself first. As others have said, I do believe also that there is a connection with clutter and weight. I'm trying to simplify so I look forward to activities of this team. Best wishes to all!

I saw "Simplify Your Life" and knew that this must have been started just for me!!!! I definitely need help in that area, so here I am. I'm Gina, I'm 49 and have struggled for years with my weight and my clutter. Getting better with both, but definitely would love a steady push in the right direction.

Hi everyone, I've just been on this team a short time; and I have really enjoyed it. I find, however, that I have overcommitted myself in my zeal to explore new teams and new approaches. Reluctantly I am leaving this team, but I wanted to post a final note to thank you for your sharing and your generosity. I might return at a later date when things change in my life. Best of luck to all of you in reaching your goals and attaining your dreams.

Hello everyone! I'm new to this team, but I've been on SP since May. I am overwhelmed with "stuff" and "things to do." I've decluttering for a while now, but I find that I spend most of my time in my sunny, organized den and ignore the rest of the house. So it's time to reclaim that and get rid of the rest of the clutter. It didn't all get here in a week, so it will take longer than a week to repurpose it. I'm still digging out from the holiday snow and ice storm but hope to take a few car loads to charities next week so I can garner a few more tax deductions ... and work toward my goal of simplifying my life. I'm glad to be a new member of this team.

Hi, I first joined SparkPeople about a year and a half ago but haven't been active the last 6 months or so. I'm following TheRose3 and Trishiak from another team. I've had a difficult year but have been able to continue slow weight loss. Last month I weighed in at 197 lbs, the first time in about 20 years that I have been under 200. In fact, I have now lost about 110 lbs over the last 10 years and intend to lose about 45 more. I'm slow but steady!

Hi:

I am happy that I found your group and that is just what I need. I registered to Sparkpeople last week bacause I want to lose the last 9-10 pounds, get toned and take the habit of working out everyday.

However, it would be great that, at the same time, I declutter my apartment. I just asked lately to my boss for a transfer in another city next July, so it would be nice that I have less belongings to move.

Thank you for the challenges.

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving. I'm following C. Rosie over here. I can't promise to be too involved, but I do want to keep my weight in check through the holidays. I adopt an annual, "Put nothing on for the holidays." (Thanks to the Washington Post for that cute motto.) campaign and vow never to gain anything between TG and NY. Most years, it works. emoticon

Hi - My nickname is C.Rosie. I am amost 63 and follow flylady religiously. I have also been a member of Sparkpeople for a year and a half. I have fifteen pounds that I am striving to lose and keep off. That is not what most doctors would say is my ideal weight and yet it is where I am most comfortable.

Have a wonderful day

Hello everyone, I'm also new to this team. I have two main goals: I would like to obtain my university degree, and I would like to lose some weight, become more active, and most importantly, feel better about myself. I'd also like to discover the secret of time management ;o) And I've been gradually decluttering my thoughts and my posessions the past years after stumbling across flylady.net and unclutterer.com, and it has been very liberating so far.

Nice to meet you, and good luck to all of you!

Hi Charlotte and welcome to the team.

You can post Happy birthday messages either in the huddle or on that person's personal sparkpage. You can post messages directly to people or within whatever topic we have going on at the time. We also have a members "weigh in" forum where you can do chats back and forth betweeen each other.

Hope that helps.

Hi! I'm new to Simplify Your Life! I've been sparking for a month now, and to my surprise, have lost some weight! I've been sparkteam shopping, and love the concept of simplifying my life, so here I am. I really believe that the simple life is the good life, but turning that into a reality is tricky for me. With nine kids, and a crazy schedule, there is always so much to do just to keep on top of the basics. I'm excited to learn some techniques to simplify, and look forward to getting to know you!

Hello all! I am new to this team. Looking for ways not only to declutter my home but also to declutter my life by balancing everything. I am working on trying to structure my life better. I lost control of my life and now got to the point of almost getting burnt out. I had very little energy enough to just keep moving forward. I am slowly making progress but could use some pointers and tips, anything would be helpful. I have trying to do some research. I just want to be able to control my life again and to have more energy, be healthy and happy. Life got away from me, its time to change that. I am also wanting to Go Green and live naturally hoping that will help me also. I am looking to become healthier and happy. I am glad to have found this team, having support will help alot. Thanks!

Hi, I'm Cindy. I just found this group and I have been trying to simplify for a while now and just haven't made it where I want to be with it yet. I have 3 kids and a husband I need to "re-train". That job will probably be harder than the simplifying~oh well! I look forward to meeting everyone here!!

hi, just started today, looking for some teams to help me with my life and this seems like a good place to start. I have always tried to live my life simply, but now with health issues I find doing the most simple things can be hard, which is leading me into depression, so I decided join you and see if I can't take charge before is takes over me...

Cool!! Glad to have you, Claire! I think decluttering and organizing goes hand-in-hand with weight loss. Good book out called "Does this clutter make my butt look fat?" I highly recommend it.

Welcome to the team!

Hello! emoticon
This looks like a fabulous team! Exactly what I need! I started SP a little over a year ago, and did really well for a while, then I got really discouraged when nothing was working and it seemed like all the people around me on my teams and in my challenges where very negative and not making any progress and just always saying "oh well I'll do better tomorrow" kinda thing. I just got to the point where I felt that I was not benefiting from being on SP. Well since I took my break I have been going up and down the same 10 or so lbs and making no progress. I know I need the support and food tracking and the focus on what I am doing that SP offers. So I thought I would try again, but revamped my teams, searching purposely for positive and motivational teams. And here I am! Also desperately needing the organizing and de-cluttering, I was thrilled to see this team! I am excited to be a part of it, and to be on a new positive path of my journey!

Surprise!!! I'm new!!

I have been striving for simplicity for a long while. I just haven't been able to dig it out from under all this stuff. I do remember a time when I didn't own anything. It was me, a futon, and a trunk. That was it. It made sweeping the floor really easy. But I remember how that felt and I want it back.

I live in nowhere Iowa (no, it's not flat here), I'm a nurse and I teach Taekwondo. I have 12 cats and I'm not giving any of the up. I view cat hair as an accessory to any outfit. They are too much a part of me. But I think they (and my DH) would like things a bit more simple too.

My main problem is the anxiety that comes with the clutter. If I could get rid of one, I know the other would go with it. So, I need help to get me started, not let it get overwhelming, and to remember that my clutter doesn't make me a bad person.

I'm just glad that there is a team that is here to help, not to judge.

Hello Everybody,

I'm Danni, happily married for 21 years to a nice man from Taiwan. We have three nice kids: 13 year old triplets. We live in Southern California, not too far from Los Angeles.

I seriously need to simplify my physical surroundings! In 2006, we all moved to live in rural Taiwan. We didn't take much furniture as we wanted to buy local furniture over there, but we did take lots of stuff we didn't need. We took two TVs, one of which would not work there, a large fridge that couldn't handle the high humidity and quit after a few months, lots of Xmas ornaments that never found a tree to decorate, and boxes of the kids school papers that were no help to them in the Chinese speaking school they attended.

Since we bought lots of furniture for the big house we bought in Taiwan, we brought it all back to the States with us a couple of months ago. We also brought school papers from their Chinese school, and lots of knick knacks and stuff that will probabely never see the light of day. We brought raggedy towels, sheets that don't fit our Chinese bought beds, and vhs tapes our kids enjoyed when they were 3 or 4 years old. We have loads of books that the kids are too old for, and our house here is way smaller than the one we had in Taiwan. We were there for almost 3 years, and you can tell we had lots of room for "stuff" over there!

My exercise routine is Ok, and our meals are Ok (we try to live a healthy lifestyle with healthy whole food meals and lots of exercise), but we need more physical space, and I have to start decluttering.

This sounds like the confessions of a clutterholic, and I guess maybe I hang on to familiar stuff because I never know for sure which country we'll be living in.

I'm happy to find this team and I hope to see some good examples of becoming clutter free!

Best wishes, Danni

P.S. I was recently a counselor at a camp for handicapped children here in GA. Worked with kids with autism, cerebral palsy, downe syndrome and other learning disabilities. Very rewarding...those kids give so much back. They are amazing!

Hi everyone! I'm Erin, a special education teacher in south TX. I was very happy to find this team. Not only am I trying to simplify my life by getting healthier, I need some help reorganizing my physical surroundings as well. It's not complete chaos, but it could get that way if I don't do something soon! I used to be very organized and neat, until I met my SO. He is an extreme packrat/clutterbug and I think it's rubbed off on me at home! My classroom, car and anywhere else I am is neat and tidy, but the house is a mess most of the time! I have to figure out how I can get things back in order and help him get himself under control too! I know it will help him deal with some other issues he has going on as well. Hope to hear some great tips from you all!

emoticon Jez,

with clothing you have to go thru it piece by piece. If you haven't worn it in the past 6-12 months then chances are you aren't going to wear it again.

Set up 3 bins:

1. trash 2. donate/give away/sell 3. keep

and just systematically go thru each article of clothing. Is it in style? Does it fit you well? Often times we keep things in our closets that don't fit or we don't like the way it looks on us. If you've tried that shirt on a gazillion times and take it off every time then that's a candidate for donation to someone who can wear it.

You may have to go thru several sweeps of your closet until you get it peared down to the things you actually love and wear.

Welcome to the team!

Hi I'm Jez new in this team. I'm probably from the other side of the globe compared to most of you. I'm 21 and living with my aunt. I only have one room of stuff. But then again a room can gather a lot of junk too. My main problem is clothing. I can never get rid of my clothes even though I only wear maybe a quarter or less of what I have most of the time.

Other than that, in the past few months I have become a real organizer. I actually wish I have a house to organize O_O. I did a major reorganization of everything recently my room, my online life, my laptop etc. There is still work to be done but I'm on my way.

Hi Sandra and welcome to the team!

Without a doubt, getting rid of the excess "stuff" will greatly simplify your life. Routines are also helpful. I find the top 4 list helps me to organize the top 4 things to do that day and keeps me on track. You'll find it under the challenges area for the team.

As far as getting rid of stuff and decluttering, read my story on my page. I did a huge sweep of "stuff" when we downsized from a large home to a more modest home. You basically start on one end of the house and slowly go thru every closet, drawer and room of your house. A little at a time you can whittle away at it.

There's been a coorelation between weight gain and "stuff" gain... they kind of go hand and hand. An excellent book that you can pick up at the library is Peter Walsh's "Does this clutter make my butt look fat?" It's been out awhile so you should be able to pick it up at your local library. (no need to buy and add to your clutter!) We also studied this book and I posted summaries on a forum with the same name so you can go back under the general forum and probably find the posts there as well.

Good luck!

Lana

emoticon I'm Sandra.

I get up around 5:00 am, at work from 7:00 to 3:00 or 3:30. Work out every day including walks to the creek with the Aussies. Keep up the laundry and the meals, the usual trips to the grocery store.

We own a sporting goods store (hunting and fishing) and I keep books for the store on the weekends.

I've accumulated too much in my 55 years and have been trying off and on to work on decluttering. I try to work that in with my regular cleaning. Hoping this team can help me be more organized and simplified so I can have "me" time on my off hours.
