Good morning! I decided last week to shake up my SparkPeople experience by looking for just a couple SparkTeams that represent what I want and envision for 2015. I regretted leaving teams that have stood by me and with me in my journey thus far. I was also sad cutting back on my SparkFriends. Why do this? Because if I am to succeed, I need to focus on how I want my journey to progress and what direction I want to take it.

I've joined Meditation and Mindfulness hoping that it best addresses how I want my journey to feel. I chose the other team, At Goal and Maintaining, not because I am there and doing that, but because it represents what I want my journey to look like.

Looking forward to getting to know you, giving and taking support and encouragement, and celebrating lots of smiles along our journey. emoticon

Hi everyone. I just joined this team today. I recently watched a TED talk on how meditation physically changes our brain and helps with depression, memory, stress, etc. Found it fascinating. I have listened to Tara Brach podcasts before while walking but never REALLY meditated myself. Figured this team would be an excellent reminder and resource. Happy to be here.

Hi :)

I'm Jo, I've been Buddhist for about 5 years and go a study group but haven't managed to get a daily meditation practice going.

As soon as I saw your 'Did you meditate today?' post I knew I had to join this group. I think being accountable somewhere will push me to start and stick with my meditation so will hopeful be posting in there a lot :)

Another thing I want to do is tapping which I saw someone further down does the same and am interested in mindfulness as well.

I meditate first thing in the morning. I have a ritual I follow. I also use hypnosis audios and I love tapping.

Hello everyone! I am in the process of practically starting over with SP and getting me back on track with my health goals. A few years ago when I was here regularly, I did *very* well and lost 23 pounds and was building more strength and eating better food, but then the long-term negative effects of being in a job I completely and utterly loathed started taking more of a toll and it just all went downhill and I became a real mess.

I finally quit my job in December 2013 to go back to school and have been in recovery from situational depression, anxiety, and overall exhaustion for the past months since I quit. I do feel much better now, but do have a ways to go. The depression is gone and I have more energy, and the anxiety has lessened now that I'm able to get more things in order.

I wasn't sure about coming back to SP because I don't feel that I'm ready to start dutifully tracking everything again, but saw this spark team and it seems to coincide with my current goal of being more mindful. Just last night as I was falling asleep, I decided that today I would start eating all my meals mindfully at the kitchen table with no other distractions, rather than at the computer, in front of the TV, with a book, etc. My hope is that it will put balance back into my meals without all the stress of keeping track of weight and portions and calories and whatnot.

Eventually, I may add in some tracking if I reach a more healthy point where I want to keep up with protein levels and such, but for now, keeping it very simple will be enough.

Hi all! I'm Renee and a couple of days ago I joined this team.

I've been around Spark for a while -- at least 6 years, by my best estimate -- but I've mostly been away from the site for a couple of years. I was extremely successful at first, using both Spark and WW, and lost over 50 lbs. I plateaued for a while about 10 lbs up from that, then changed careers and, even though I stayed at the same weight, lost more fat and gained a lot of muscle. Things have been up and down since then and I *think* I have a handle on why I started gaining a lot back in the winter of 2010-11 -- and have, on and off, kept gaining since. I've also gotten a lot less active and, as a result, a lot less physically well.

Anyway, even though I do have a weight loss goal right now -- largely at my knees' and wardrobe's request -- my bigger goal is becoming more active again and creating some lean, healthy muscle. I've gotten rid of a lot of my past Spark Teams and have added some -- like this one -- that are consistent with what I'm about in general. Slowly I'm updating my Spark Page and my goals, and hopefully I'll be visiting here regularly soon. I've finally started to get okay with "slowly." ;)

I'm looking forward to "meeting" you all!

Hi, my name is Tonya, and I think this team would be very beneficial to me. I just recently started looking in to Yoga and meditation for stress relief. I've always been afraid of stepping outside of my comfort zone and trying new things, but now I'm ready. I work full-time in a call center getting cursed out all day long, I'm a full-time student, and I suffer from Mixed Connective Tissue Disease. My life gets a little hectic at times, and I could definitely use a little peace and serenity. I'm not sure where to begin, and would love any suggestions.

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, but do not take any formal medication for it as I do not have health insurance. Happy Holidays Everyone, I noticed this forum on my board and thought it may be just what I need. Hello! I am new to really understanding mindfulness. My program is to get in 10,000 steps a day and I try to do walking meditation for at least some of these steps. It has been very helpful and the commitments to walking 10,000 steps has made me spend more times outdoors, which I am also grateful for. I am grateful for finding this group!

I'm new to this forum though not new to SparkPeople. My new year's resolution for 2014 was to do a daily 15 minute morning yoga routine and I haven't missed a day so far. I've been amazed at the results: flexibility and general well-being. I plan to continue in 2015 and will add mindful eating.

I am new here and I do not have much experience with meditation or with mindfulness, but I think I am sorely in need of them.

I have a binge eating disorder and I think I could learn a lot here. I have not done very much background reading--just beginning. My meditation attempts are probably typical of a newcomer. I cannot concentrate on not concentrating.

I have chosen to live a "mindless" life in so many ways and now it's time to take a turn of direction--even if I can only do it slowly. Willing to read, listen, learn, ponder.

Hello everyone. My name is Gretchen. I came across this team and it really intrigued me. Meditation and mindfulness is something I would like to begin to focus on as part of my health and wellness lifestyle. I welcome any suggestions for beginners who have never meditated before or little ways I can get started. I love to strength train, do rowing and biking. I am a blues singer and live in Cambridge, MA. I love city living! I tend to have trouble with sleeping due to my crazy night owl music schedule. I am hoping meditation might be able to help me with that, but also in other aspects of my life. Thanks for listening.

Hello my name is Quinn.
I've always wanted to learn to meditate. That's why I'm here. Thought a nice group here on SparkPeople would have good information.
I'm past menopause, whooppie!
Best thing I found to help decrease hot flashes is regular exercise. It helps your body regulate hormones. Walking is my favorite exercise. I've been doing some strength training also, and hope to start doing some yoga.
I'm learning to cook healthier food for my family
I have NOT had any soda pop for several years now and I no longer get heartburn.
I hope to be a good team member here.

Hi All! I am new here. I am super glad I found this group and even more happy that it seems to be pretty active!

I am going to work on mediation and being more mindful in everything! I feel like I am always in lala land and it drives me nuts! I feel that if I could be more in the now then I would enjoy more time with family and control my eating. I am really sick of living life on Auto pilot!

Hi, I'm Annette. I'm not at all mindful. Years ago I regularly practiced a form of meditation called Centering Prayer (Basil Pennington). I keep signing up for the Oprah-Deepak meditations and not doing them. I have very much begun improving my nutrition and fitness, but I do have problems with anxiety and not feeling that my quality of life is all that high. I am hoping to get back in the habit of meditating and just learning to enjoy the nice moments and simple pleasures of life. emoticon
