Good morning all...
I am a regular meditator, on and off for many years... haven't missed a day since early April. Good streak for me. Meditation calms my soul and keeps me close to Peace throughout my day.
Mostly, I meditate by listening to binural beats to assist in getting to that deep place.

Last night I attended a Buddhist ceremony, blessing a new QiGong center in my community... my body is still buzzing from the amazing voices of the Tibetan Monks.

I am delighted to be part of this team

Much success the first time through followed by a series of life changes that found me in a new state with a new job and a new (and wholly unanticipated) life. Good morning! I am happy to have found this team. I am a big advocate of meditation and mindfulness. Being healthy in mind, body, and spirit is very important to me. I lost the 50 lbs I gained with pregnancy using Sparkpeople in 2007. I have come back to this site on and off over the years due to weight gain. I am working on losing about 25-30 lbs at this time.

Hello, my name is Heidi. I have been on and off Sparkpeople since 2009. Last year, I was inspired to change my eating habits since I'm 53 years old and my Dad died of heart disease at 53. I've lost 26 pounds, I'm exercising more and I'm meditating more often. Life is good!

I've been married to the love of my life for 16 years and I have two sons. One in the USCG and one going into high school. We have a wedding photography business in Southern California and share our lives with several pets. I'm excited to join this group.

Hi there! I'm Helen. I took a break from Spark for about 9 months and just came back. I think checking in with others every day is very helpful. I started posting on the Eat to Live team a couple of days ago and thought your team looked nice. emoticon

I homeschool my 5 kids. They are mostly teenagers now, but one is still little (6). I've been very low on energy this year. I know eating right and exercising can give me a lot more vitality. I haven't done much meditating... I did listen to the class on mindfulness that is offered on the Great Courses website and enjoyed it a lot. I also listen to visualizations made by Jon Gabriel of the Gabriel Method of weight loss. They are very calming and helpful. My husband meditates on Bible verses a lot, but I have not been good at meditating, I just tend to read a little, try to find a helpful nugget and take it and run back to my kids and house work.

I'm just following Lightkeeper around. :D

Really not a lover of meditation. (You have chatty monkeys? I have an entire jungle!) I do like gratitude and mindfulness though. And some of the spiritual paths along those lines.

I agree about yoga being intimidating, but since I joined Spark (this week) I've been doing yoga-esque, bellydance-ish stretches every day. Even this little bit is helping.

Happy to meet some kindred spirits and send blessings and light to all.

Hey, y'all! I just joined Sparkpeople Monday. I am here to work on becoming healthy in mind, body, and spirit. Honestly, I've been shrouded in darkness a long time and I'm working on finding the light within. I'm hoping to start a meditation practice again, work on mindfulness, and maybe try yoga (I've always been a little intimidated). But most of all...I need to be in the midst of likeminded folks. I can already feel the good energy here. :D

Thanks for the warm welcome to this team. :-)

I recently started using spark people again to put a more conscious focus on my health & wellness. I was/am delighted to see that a mindfulness team exists! I've been practicing mindfulness for some years, though I've been more committed to my practice at some times than others, and truly appreciate the gift of presence. Lots of wonderful teachers, some of my faves are Tara Brach, Jack Kornfield, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Pema Chodron.

I look forward to checking in with this group and will check out the challenges, etc.

Hello there. My name is Susan and I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA. Very new to this team but not new to SparkPeople. I really want to integrate mindfulness and meditation into my healthy living lifestyle. Have no experience to speak of but did attend a few sessions of yoga which I loved. It helped me to relax and feel peaceful. I need that in my life.

Hi, I'm newly rejoining SP. Love the trackers, now I'm trying to get more from the community side. A little about me: 38, teacher, mostly veg diet, want to lose about 45lbs. Main excercise is walking, hiking, and yoga (although I joined a gym recently, wish me luck!), and I enjoy art, science, books, gardening/urban farming, and my pets. Have 1 kid/1 boyfriend. Nice to meet you! :)

How do you do, everybody! I started meditating to deal with mental health issues and have found the practice to be extremely useful. Add that to regular exercise and you're golden!

I found a really good mindfulness meditation website and app called calm.com. I use it all the time. There's a free version and the upgrade is pretty inexpensive.

Has anyone used calm.com? What are your opinions? Or, do you have other online places to help you meditate?

Greetings. My name is Lisa. I just joined Spark. A big part of my motivation to lose weight to to be able to sit more comfortably on the mat. I maintain a daily practice in addition to sitting with my local mindfulness group once a week. I've been on several 1/2 and full day retreats and just completed my first residential retreat (5 days) and am looking forward to the next one in April. I follow the Therevada tradition and practice both vipasanna and metta regularly.

I just joined the group, looking for some help to get started meditating to help control blood pressure which I just found out am having a problem with. I've used meditation tapes some in the past and tried centering prayer but have never developed a discipline for doing it. I looked through the posts here and saw the free MBSR online program and started it yesterday. I see there is an 8 week MBSR class here locally and wonder if any members here have gone to the class. It's not cheap but if it were to help solve my health problem would be worth it. Looking for opinions.

thanks for the welcome! back to spark people after a long absence and discovered this group - have been doing a lot of reading and trying to incorporate mindfulness and meditation as part of my depression recovery. After losing 50 pounds last year as part of the depression, I've gained 20+ back - glad to feel better but am not eating as well as I'd like. It's very different now that I've had an appetite and find myself gravitating towards sweets and in general, not being very aware of what I'm eating.

Howdy, I'm new to this group though not new to Meditation or Mindfulness; those practices have been a beloved part of my lifestyle for gosh about 10 years now I guess.

I've always used these practices in a targeted approach to help me manage my stress and a mental health condition. Of course they ended up helping me in many other ways when I wasn't looking. emoticon

That said, I'm hopeful to continue evolving and bring more conscious awareness into my relationship with food.

It is good to meditate alone, but, IMHO, so much better to find a group to meditate, and share with. A Sanga. I've been in such a group for the past 7 years, and find it invaluable. Also, are there meditation meetings in your area?
Check out IMCW.org also (I know there are lots of other groups, but this is the one I am mostly connected to). There are so many talks by Tara Brach who wrote Radical Acceptance, amongst others, and Hugh Byrne - both of whom lead retreats also.

Hello. I'm Deb, and I'm turning to meditation as a way to keep myself from (literally) going insane. I have been going through horrendous life-altering stressful events for 7 years now, and I've reached my saturation point. I just went through the thing that was "the last straw," that almost sent me completely over the edge. I cannot stop thinking about it and being angry about it, and I want to learn to channel that anger into positive activities.

I'm starting a movement and organization to combat just the type of abuse I and my loved ones have suffered, which is a start, but on a minute-to-minute basis, I find myself having to make myself breathe and calm myself.

So here I am, and I hope to learn as much as possible so as not to let this evil person destroy my peace. I'm in a good place in all other aspects of my life right now, but I can't take advantage of the good things until I can control these horrible feelings.

My name is Kristen. Ever since I read the book "The Power" I have been drawn to meditation and visualization. I started meditating 5 minutes a day and now I am up to 15 minutes. I meditate after my workout when my body is relieved of some of it's restless energy. I am becoming increasingly conscious of holistic health vs. weight loss. I have a goal so losing 50 pounds but not at the cost of wellness. I am a vegan and I have never felt better as every calorie is packed with nutrition since I started eating nutritarian. I am in a pretty aggressive workout program...Beach body's Insanity and I love it. I am working on my second Masters so I have to sit to do my homework for long hours but I feel good about my recent diet change. Since last Summer I have moved from 215 to 193 due to vegetarian eating and a physical job. I am not working now but I have lost about 7 pounds since I started Insanity putting me at 186. Anyway, that's me. I look forward to getting to know all of you!
