Hello Everyone,
I.m Robin and have been listening off and on to Paul's cd's for a couple of years. Now I am determined to make my weight loss permanent. I just ordered his new book and cd on hypnosis/lapband. I love his cd's and listen to them several times a week. The difference when I listen is amazing. Better healthy choices and less binging! Excited to get the new materials. I think he's a perfect addition to Spark.

I am also a nurse, we tend to put ourselves last in the care taker world. Learning that I am just as important as anyone else. Everyone hope you have a great day! emoticon

Hi everyone,

I am Trev and I presently reside in North Devon in the South West of the UK.

Having read the book "I can make you thin" and gone over the CD too I am presently blending the Mc Kenna principles with calorie counting.

I have lost just over 70lbs since March this year and the loss is now happening quite a lot slower so this is why I have come in here to mix with other like minded people to help keep me on track.

Cheers

Trev

Congrats on the weight loss Claire! That is amazing. I think I will order the 7 day program after my first 2 weeks on the other CD. I had looked into weight loss surgery I was getting so desperate, but I don't quite meet the criteria yet... and I don't want to!

I have a strange disorder called POTS... which inhibits my ablilty to participate in prolonged activity. This results in my loss of consciousness. Sometimes even standing in one spot for too long I pass out, so exercise has been tricky. I was working with a personal trainer until I passed out on him too many times...oops. So this would be a great way to get the weight off so I can eventually work my way up into a more active lifestyle... I look forward to tracking and succeeding with you!!

Welcome, Beth!

The most fun thing about this program is that no one needs to know what you're doing unless you want to tell them.

There is nothing to weigh or measure (by the way, Paul recommends that you only weigh yourself every couple of weeks, or not at all - your clothes will tell you that you're smaller) and no group meetings or keeping up with everything you stick in your mouth. He does have a 90 day success journal which I find helpful

In six weeks I have lost 22 pounds and a clothing size. My feet are no longer puffy and I can wear some sandals I bought three years ago, hoping that someday they would fit. Well, they fit now.

This program will work if you will let it. I kept trying to make it more complicated than it is, and got in my own way at first. Then I relaxed and just listened to the CD every night. I ordered the 7 day program which includes the psychological gastric band and I think that made the bigger difference.

My family still doesn't understand that I'm not on a diet and they keep waiting around for me to gain a bunch of weight, which isn't going to happen. I just laugh at them and get smaller, following the four principles Paul puts forth.

What are your expectations?

Claire

Hello all,
My name is Beth. I am a mother of 2 and a nurse. I am tired of being the fat nurse that gives people healthy advice. It is time to take control of my life. I am starting McKenna's program as soon as my CD arrives. How is it working for everyone?

Hallo KMAGYAR727, nice to meet you. To edit your ticker, go to your sparkpage and push the 'edit my sparkpage' button. Scroll right down to the ticker bar. Underneath is a button 'edit my ticker', this will give you options if pressed. Don't forget to press the 'save my changes' button after. I also struggle to keep to the rules, especially the eat conciously. It does work though if you stick to the rules.

Hi there, my name is Kris and I am back to SparkPeople. I want to make the most of it this time but feel a little overwhelmed by all the tools. I also am in the middle of reading Paul McKenna's book I can make you thin and really want to start trying it. I have been listening to the hypnosis CD and love it. Of the 4 rules, I find it hard to eat what I want when I want because I have been "dieting" so long that I think I have a skewed idea of what I want. For example, Do I really want veggies or do I just think I "should" eat veggies? Oh, and can someone tell me how to change my tracker to be Paul's plan? it is currently set to count calories. Thanks. Look forward to getting to know y'all and some success soon. Thanks for reading my sort of long intro. emoticon

Don't worry LilMiss, that can happen as it takes a little while to turn the juggernaut around, and to let your stomach shrink so that you feel full more quickly. It does work, but it takes a little time.

Hello LilMiss,

hang in there! This process is soooo different than what I am used to, too. I'm one month into listening to the CD nightly. I have to say, I'm finding myself eating a lot slower than I used to (without thinking about it anymore). I do utilize the EFT (tapping) part to get me over the non-hungry-cravings I get; I refer to this as my emotional-eating-issues (mainly stress!).

Anyhow, good luck to you, and welcome aboard!

Good evening. I just finished reading the book and beginning to insert the information from what was read AND what I hear. However I am a little discouraged since I have gained weight and have begun the first stage of the change of life. I am getting a little discouraged. I really pray that I am able to reprogram my thoughts towards food and exercise.

Greetings,

I'm back to SparkPeople but with a new plan, Paul McKenna's. I'm excited, I really believe this is going to work for me, because I absolutely hate counting calories (even though SparkPeople makes it incredibly easy), and I hate dieting. I'm not too excited about weighing myself either; but I did weigh in after reading "I Can Make You Thin" on 18 Feb, and weighed in today 28 Feb - lost 3 pounds. From now on I'll only weigh in once a month, close to the first. Other than weighing myself, I'll just keep track of how loose my clothes get (yay).

My belief is, eating good whole foods, while staying away from processed foods (except dark chocolate emoticon , in moderation, of course). I was doing the vegetarian thing, but have issues with wheat and grains; then got into the paleo thing, but still no weight loss. Then I came across McKenna's book, read it in one weekend, starting listening to the CD every night since 17 Feb.

I have to say in the last couple weeks I have noticed I am eating less, not finishing everything on my plate. Which is amazing! I come from the clean-your-plate/children-are-starving-in-
the-world club...major guilt trip I learned from my mother. I do have a lot of emotional eating issues, which I am working on. I am familiar with EFT, and have used it on other issues, and really like that Paul added a chapter in his book.

That's me in a nutshelll. My name is Susanna, andI live in upstate-New York (a 5 hour drive from New York City). Have an office job, I sit 9 hours a day (ugh), except Fridays when I try to leave early if possible. I love the outdoors, have two dogs I walk every morning, so they keep me active.

Good luck everyone!!

Hi, I'm Evelyn and live in the south London suburbs. I also feel that somehow I should be dieting as well. In fact I've twice gone back to tracking, and put on half a stone each time!!! So I really must see sense and do it properly. I lost over 3 stones last time on Paul, most of which, except when tracking and weighing, I kept off. Which speaks for itself really!

Hi there, Eileen here, born and bred in Scotland. Ive used Paul's I can make you thin before and it works but I stopped it cos I thought I was losing weight too fast. Stupid thats what that idea was any excuse really !!
Im just re reading the book again, will watch the dvd again and will start with the cd tomorrow. I think if you have a 'relapse' you have to re read the book.
Anyway good luck folks, hopefully will meet new friends and share support and encouragement.

I'm Claire and live in the Southeastern US although I grew up in the San Fernando Valley in California. At 350 pounds, I figured that a lifetime of dieting somehow still wasn't working for me. I. too, become a rebellious 4-year-old when dieting and feel deprived (boo-hoo, poor me, right?). I bought Paul's book and the CD does help. I can also attest to the fact that the tapping (EFT) does work, but you have to keep doing it as a way of retraining your brain. My commitment is to re-reading the book and listening to the CD. Does anyone else here feel as though they should be "doing a diet" along with his book? I keep having that feeling - then I remember that I've been on one diet or another since the age of 12, so I guess it must just be the "diet mentality" rearing its ugly head, LOL. Best of luck to all, and I promise to check in often.

Claire

Hi,
My name is Jae. I am a mother of two. I have read the book 3 times. I am ready to actually start taking action. I have 90 pounds to lose and I feel that being restricted will just make me want the food even more. I am starting this plan today. I wish everyone good luck.

Hello everyone. emoticon
I've had the book and been familiar with Paul McKennas 'I can make you thin' for a few years now but never managed to successfully stick to it. Instead I wasted my time trying various diets which I could never stick to for long and that were so restrictive they lead to binging. The result of all this is that instead of wanting to lose about 7 pounds I now need to lose at least 20. So I'm back to trying to overhaul my whole way of eating and try and learn to eat consciously like a naturally slim person.

Hey everyone, Suzanne Talley here...I am new to the team but I actually did this once before and lost 20 lbs. With a lot of junk going on in my world (moving, stressful job, etc..) I got away from the healthy behaviors. I am going to start back and need a lot of encouragment right now. Any one brave enough to ask please do so!! I need accountability!!

Today's goals, drinking water, listening to my cd, some movement (swimming or dancing with my daughter to the Dance Central from x box).

My only concern is, that as I live alone I don't want to be throwing food away, and will only be giving myself small portions. Although I will be eating whatever I want, but not junk food, so I hope the system will still work for me.

On the odd occasions when I do go out to eat with friends I won't be in control of the portion
size, and will then practice only eating until I feel satisfied and not stuffed as I have been doing
up to this point.

Take my breakfast this morning for instance : 1 small red potato sautéed, 1 egg, 2 slices of turkey bacon. Usually I have 2 eggs, 4 slices of turkey bacon and 2 slices of toast.

So I hope my smaller portions will act the same as if I were leaving food on the plate.

Have a great day...

Welcome Lamontr!

I totally agree with you about the diet mentality. I always feel that I'm doomed to fail when I start a diet. Paul's system is very straight forward and do-able. Good luck!

Hi All,

Just joined today, received the book and CD in the mail yesterday. Listened to the CD yesterday, and today have read the book, and am in the process of giving it a second read. I have reached the stage, where I have to lose weight for my health and well being, and like
the thought of this not actually being a diet, but teaching your body, and your mind that
you control the food, not the food controlling you.

I have said for years that as soon as you say you're on a diet you just doomed yourself for failure.....and trust me on this I have failed over, and over again big time!

Now with this simple system I am sure I will be on the track to success, especially with a team I can reach out to for encouragement.

Renee`

I agree the clubs are not good value. We have Spark, which is free, and the PM book and hynotherapy CD. Optional items like the 90 Day Success Journal and DVD set are quite good too... but not essential.

Welcome to the team. As you can see it is very quiet here. I think because the system is so simple and so personalised it is difficult to have a discussion forum!

However, please feel free to make suggestions, start new threads... anything!

Thanks Lynda.

Glad I asked before shelling out on the club.

I actually got the App along with the new book a few months back, but decided to try Harcombe again (not sure why).

I'll have to start using the app, as I can guarantee that I'll forget to take the book away on work trips with me.

One good thing today is that I felt motivated to go for a 2-mile run/walk, which I haven't done for a while, although my feet hurt now as I am trying barefoot running and I'm still getting used to it. :D

Hello Pie-Eyed! I really thing PM is the greatest idea out there...you can eat what you want, and only have to have restraint. I started out great guns and fell off the wagon, but luv the idea and think can work. Might try again, especially listening to the full signal.

Wanted especially to comment on the online Club that you mentioned. I joined. The whole time I was there (over a month or more) there was NO movement at all. It is dead, or was for me at about 4 months ago, so do some research before you $pend. Was such a good idea, but zilch going on.

I wish you luck, you can do it. Maybe read the rules all the time to not forget. I got the app for my iPhone too and now THAT is super. Worth a lot and heartily agree to having that.
Good vibes to you!

Hi all.

I followed PMK about 4 years ago, using just the original book, and lost about 1st (Started at just over 13st), but did the usual and stopped paying attention.

Over the next 3 years, I went from 12st7lb to 14st, before deciding to do something about it and did the Harcombe diet (food combining).

Worked great and lost the weight back down to 12st7lb, but then had to adjust to not losing weight any more (12st7lb is about my ideal weight) and just slipped back into old habits.

Anyway. Long story short - went from 12st7lb up to 14st9lb and panicked. :D
Started Harcombe again about 5 weeks ago and lost 8lb, but then stopped losing weight, felt REALLY uninspired to stick to it and also found it very hard to stick to when not at home (a big problem as I work away from home about half of any month).

Anyway. I remembered that I bought the new PMK book (the one with the journal) about 3 months ago - You know - "Just in case" lol - And figured I might as well have a read again.

Feeling quite inspired now, and whilst I haven't "officially" started yet (i.e. Not using the journal), I actually started paying attention to my food again yesterday and it felt GREAT.

Really fancied a bacon butty this morning (one thing I *really* miss on Harcombe) and loved every last mouthfull (apart from the bit I left to kill the "clean plate club").

Anyhow - Sorry to waffle on, but in short I'm really hoping that I can make this work for me as I *hate* diets (even the "good" ones), because once you hit your target, you then have to figure out how the hell you're going to eat normally again, but not gain weight.

I think that if I can can Paul into my head, this might just work out.

BTW - Does anyone use the official PMK forums and if so, are they actually worth £40 a year?

Today is a fabulous day for me in that I found Paul McKenna...my first inkling of him and his lifestyle. AM SO THRILLED, as I believe this is the missing link in my losing weight. Also, I had just emailed my friend in Ohio that I needed to find the missing link, and right away I find his name on POLYs sparkpage, so was meant to be. I will follow the 4 Golden Rules to the letter, and read up on the rest. I do know about Tapping, and have an e-book on it that will re-read. There is just so much out there to help us that we don´t know about.

I am a Texan, living in Madrid, Spain, new to SP. I need to lose about 50 lbs, am a vegan trying that way to fix my OA by myself as all doctors do is give medicine which I don´t want to do. Now with Paul McKenna on my iPhone, I´ll have all the back-up I need...with this group of course.

Am so thrilled...now to learn more from yall!

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I don't track my food on Spark - it would be too confusing to remember how much I'd eaten. Ans I choose to follow Paul's technique so I don't have to track anything! The only thing I like to track is my fitness minutes. Remember, moving your body is as important as the four golden rules! Great to hear your exercise was mindless Dotty! Perhaps we should all swap mindless eating for mindless exercising.

Lovely to have you both on board.

Hi all,
My name is Cris and my husband and I watched and did the Paul McKenna program back in 2008 when it was on TLC. I was still home with the kids and lost about 16lbs in a month just before I went back to work. Then life stepped in, I went back to work full time, and I stopped doing the golden rules. I've read the book and listen to his stuff from time to time now. I know that his program is great if it's followed but I get stuck because I'm an emotional eater and don't always remember the tapping sequence. I'm hoping that I can get back on track with this. He says don't pay attention to calories and such and just follow his golden rules. How are people blending spark people trackers with Paul's program.

Hello everyone, my name is Dotty, I'm a 44 year old single mum to two girls and I'm from England. I have 4 stone (56lbs) to lose I have been following the Atkins diet on and off for months now and even though I totally agree/believe in the science behind it I can't seem to stick with it for more than 3 weeks at a time, so I lose weight and put it back on again. I have managed to keep off just over a stone (14 lbs) but put back on 12 lbs. I binge eat all the time, at the end of the day I don't even remember what I ate early that day which is very sad.
But today it changes, I read the book yesterday and I listened to the CD this morning and after 10 mins of listening to it, I got on the cross trainer and the weirdest thing happened I didn't even hurt whilst doing it, I put the T.V on and was so engrossed watching the T.V I forgot that I'd been on it for so long. I have made very good food choices today and even whilst holding a packet of crisps (chips) for my little girl I didn't tuck in as I would normally do I just thought do you really want or need to have one the answer was no.
Looking forward to reading your posts and getting to know you all.
Dotty

Hi everyone, I'm Clementine, I'm 27, and I have 5 kids, my oldest being 11, the youngest 6 months. My baby born in July of 2011 was 3 months early (my only preemie) weighing 2 lbs 3 oz. In honor of the pounds preemies need to gain, I have joined a "biggest loser" type of challenge lasting for 2 months, half the entry fees go to the biggest loser, the other half is donated to preemie families, and care packages for parents who have lost their baby. If I win, I'm donating the prize to my 11 year old cousin with cancer. If I don't win, well I still win, because I will be healthier for my family. I started reading I can make you thin, two days ago and am almost finished with it. I know from past expierience that self-hypnosis works because I did a Hypnobabies program during my pregnancy with my 4th child and felt ZERO pain during a 4 day labor...(no not like 3 cm for 4 days I mean the real deal, 8 cm for 2 of those days) I have joined Spark before with success but I lead a very busy life (no I don't I just have a lot of laundry) and I need something that is going to work long long term. I can't be tracking my food to the gram for longer than 3 months or else my mind be crazy.

Anywho, I'm looking forward to joining in your discussions and such and hope you all have a great day. Love, Clem

Hi,
I am Suzanne. I am excited to start reading this book. I will be picking it up at my local library today. Years ago, I had started to read "Change your life in 7 days" by Paul McKenna. I really liked it but I lack commitment so I didn't get far reading it. I am glad to see this SparkTeam. It seems to go better for me when I have others doing the work with me.

I do the same thing - as soon as some says you can't - well, I say who gonna stop me? Say I can't eat chips or real butter or supermarket pizza? Well, I go ahead and eat it.

You say I can eat what I want? Well, real butter is on my list (yum) but ham salad sandwiches, poached eggs on wholemeal toast... yummmmmm... cherries....

And all you have to do is eat when hungry, notice what you put into your mouth and stop when you are full. Genius eh?

Welcome to the team - I'd say good luck, but I don't think luck comes into it!

Enjoy your food, guilt free!

Hi all! I'm Shell and I've been back-and-forth with Spark People for *years*, trying to get my chubby self into reasonable shape. I bought Paul McKenna's book last December and after reading it was really convinced that it would work, as it made total sense to me. I have been tapping (using EFT techniques) for a few years and have found it really effective for many things. But I could never quite pull things together for weight loss.

Well, I got all excited.... and then didn't actually *do* any of the principles he talked about. Why do we do that?? At any rate, I just kept piling on the pounds and did nothing.

Two months ago I got this crazy idea to try the P90X workout. I lasted for 3 weeks (which was amazing!) and then realized my 200 pound body was not well suited for such torture...er.. fitness. I then switched to a similar (but less intense) 90-day program called ChaLEAN Extreme and I LOVE IT! I'm just about wrapping up my first 30 days and I've lost about 10 pounds and lots of inches, yay!

So, what does this have to do with Paul? My eating is horrible! One of the big topics within the Beachbody community (who puts out the workout I do), is nutrition and 'clean' eating. For whatever reason it makes me crazy and instead of following the recommendations I turn into a defiant 4-year-old and eat crap just to spite... someone. ;) This is not helping my progress, so what to do?

And then I receive Lois' wonderful welcome letter, saying she is reviving this group and "AHA!" I cried, "This is what I knew would work all those months ago! I'll give it another try!"

So here I am. :) I'm looking forward to sharing ideas, challenges, progress and support with everyone. Yay!

Thank you Lady_Lois for the nice welcome letter. My name is Liz and I am so happy to see this team here.

I just learned of Paul McKenna this morning when another spark friend mentioned him to me. She thought his techniques could possibly help me with the binge eating. I don't know if she's a member of this group, but I'm sure going to tell her about it, if not. I've been watching some videos this morning on youtube and also found the "tapping technique" on a website. It seemed so silly that I laughed out loud while trying it this morning, but it actually got me through a strong craving. I printed the technique on cardstock and plan to use it as often as I need it! I ordered the book and cd (I Can Make You Thin) from ebay and can't wait for it to arrive!

I'm looking forward to reading the posts here so I can learn all I can until my book arrives.

Hi there
My name is Martha. I am a 59 year old Grandmother trying to lose the last 10 - 15 pounds. I lost the initial 20 with Weight Watchers and still find that the tracking is a big help. I saw Paul on television and bought his CD several years ago. I was working at the time (was on call even after work hours) and never had the opportunity to apply his principles and listen to the CD consistently. Now I am retired and plan to be diligent in using his program. Like you, I wasn't sure about the tapping, but I must say that it does help. I delved further into the EFT tapping and while I still do not understand it, or how it works, it does help with cravings and in other areas as well.
Thanks for getting this team cranked up again!!!!

My name is Lois and I have been doing Paul McKenna's system for about 6 weeks and it is working really well (13lbs down and a total of 4 inches lost!) I am tracking myself via his 90 day journal. I have bought the books and the DVDs - and I love it all. You don't have to buy anything, following the principles is enough. But I recomend you at least buy the book - it comes with the hynotheraphy CD which is really relaxing. Check out Amazon or Ebay or anywhere you like... or McKenna's own website...

www.paulmckenna.com

I've been on Spark for a few years now... losing and gaining weight - gung-ho and burn out over and over. I've used the tools, got bored or side tracked, then rediscovered them and got all enthused and the same pattern over and over... something was working well for me in Spark but it wasn't quite right at the same time.

I've had a lot of stress in my life - outside pressures that I cannot alter - and my doctor recommended hypnotherapy. So I went to the hypnotherapist. She was great and I felt better after a few sessions. BUT it was expensive. So I checked out the internet for anything relating to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy or hypnotherapy. I found Paul McKenna. I remembered his TV Show and thought I'd try him out. I tried the Change Your Life in 7 Days - and I felt much better. So I thought... hmmmm... I wonder if he really could help me lose weight.

So I bought the I Can Make You Thin book. It made sense to me. I'm not sure about the tapping, but the principles make a lot of sense. The CD is relaxing if nothing else. Basically, you don't have to believe... just give it a go. I did. And so far it is working. I've had many, many days when I have not followed the principles... but it's no big deal. I get back to it with the next meal...

So... how did you find Paul McKenna? What do you think about the principles? What do you make of the tapping?
