Hi,
I am new to the team but not to Spark. I just found the website for this program when I was searching for an app that would do just what this program does--visually show me progress as I "walked across America." I started in mid July and I'm around Williamsburg now. I love that I see maps and pictures of the places I'm virtually visiting. So glad to find a SparkTeam for this program!

My name is Randi & I live in Ohio. Since I often use a stationary bike & walking as part of my exercise routine, I thought it would be fun to log my miles on a virtual route. Eventually I'd like to participate in a 5K or fun run, but this is a good place to start!

Hello. I'm Larisa. I used to LIVE in Virginia and now live in Oregon and had houses on both coasts for awhile (not glamorous... because one wouldn't sell!) I still have family on both coasts. It would be fun to hike back East virtually to visit my brother this spring and summer while I my work and school schedule are just a little lighter and I might actually be able to do so. There will not be the opportunity to do this again for another 3 years! (Clinical rotations coming up for me this fall!)

So I'll leash up my poodle, put on my boots, grab my inhaler and water bottle (like Hobbes, asthma is an issue) and head on out...

NEXT week, when finals are over!

Hey all, just found this site (Spark) and the Virtual tracker.
I'm a 60 year old man who is determined to get it right this time, heavy on the exercise side of the weight loss equation.

Started my diet in November doing lots of walking, biking and Spin classes.
Fortuneately, I keep good exercise and diet logs (when I'm "on the plan") so
I've backloaded my mileage day by day since 11/25.

I'm now 693 miles in and near Boonville KY. Would like to see the Pacific by Years End!

Looking forward to talking to you'all

My name is Jane & I live in Oregon. I found Spark People a few years back & lost 30lbs. I used to do distance runs, liked to ski and hike (in other words was a pretty active player in life). Although for many years now my life has been pretty sedentary due to a lung infection that has caused me to have the horrible diagnosis and asthma. So I went back to college and work full time to avoid the pain and loss of what my life used to be like. There is just something about gaining onto the age of 50 in 6 months that has stirred something within me. I want to hike again.. I still want to find what my body is capable of and I realize that I have limitations that I didn't have before. The weight I carry around with me (for one) holds me captive in a life-style that I do not wish to hold. Along with my diagnosis of Asthma. Luckily my Asthma is NOT exercise induced in fact I feel much stronger when I exercise. I will start by walking but I dream of: emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi, I'm Ann. I've walked 5 half-marathons and one full marathon, but since I lost my job early in 2010 things have been rough. I gained back most of the weight I'd lost and also crashed financially. Last April I moved from Seattle to southern Maryland. I live with a cousin and started a business doing genealogy research. Its much harder to walk there than it was in Seattle and I can't afford a gym... and I have little privacy and a bad internet connection. I'm getting back on track, but anything I can do to keep myself motivated is good!

I am so excited to find this virtual walk team. I never knew such a thing existed, but it makes sense! I take care of a toddler grandson that is very high energy, so I get lots of steps on my pedometer without trying. I am starting a walking program and enjoy walking to SP Nicole's Cardio Blast DVD when I can't get outside. I can already tell this team is going to help motivate me on the days I don't feel motivated myself!

Hi! I'm Maura and I love tracking my running miles on spark. Since I got into triathlons this summer, I've been looking for a way to track ALL mileage. I love the visual part of this site and think its so cool that it is part of exercise motivation and research.

I'm Meghan and I am from Clark Lake, Michigan. I am currently doing the Couch to 5K program and want something to motivate me after the 8 weeks are over. I enjoy running and biking and am blessed to live on a 7.5 mile trail that goes around a beautiful lake. I have 3 kiddos that keep me busy and a husband of 16 years. I started with 64 pounds to lose and have lost 14 so far. I am looking forward to using this as one more way to measure my progress without the scale.

Hi all. My name is Shawn, and I am new to the team, but have been on Sparkpeople for about 2 months. I am so happy I found this team, I was looking for something that would show me how much walking I actually do.

I've changed my ticker to reflect only weight loss for 2014 in hopes of motivating me past the middle of it again :)

What a great idea! My name is Bob and I'm getting myself back in cycling shape and needed something "virtual" to motivate me. It's nice to see others have the same type of thing in mind. Yeah, I'm on here to lose some weight, but to do so without exercise is an unbalanced approach. So here's to a better diet and excercise.

Hi. I'm from Pawley's Island, SC, so living on the Atlantic makes the idea of walking to the Pacific sound like a lot of fun. I was looking for a website to track such a journey about a year ago, but I must not be a very good Googler, because I couldn't find one until I happened upon this team listed on another Sparker's SparkPage.
I joined SparkPeople 6/29/09 and lost 40# in three years, but went into a depression mid 9/11. When I came out of it May 2012, and was horrified that I'd regained 41# and was so horribly out-of-shape that I could no longer walk around the block without severe shortness of breath. So I started over, and the dieting is going okay, but the exercise goals have been plagued by lazy spots. It helped to join the 5% Challenge, but its focus is weight-loss, so I think this cross country trip will be an even better motivator since exercising consistently is my weakest point. Even though I joined lbl today, I have been tracking my walking on SP and was able to accurately enter June's and early July's sad little miles into lbl so I am already 59 miles into Henrico Co, VA.
I wish you all long happy trips, and much success in meeting your fitness, strength, and weight-loss goals.

Hi everyone! My name is Miranda and I am back at Sparking after being away for too long. I love to bike for my exercise because it doesn't kill my knees like running did. Last year I was up to running 3-4 miles three times a week but my knees didn't like it so well so I went back to my bike. I just got on and started riding again about a week and a half ago and I've got 27.6 miles in so far. I am about 1.33 miles away from the Chickahominy Rvier! emoticon My number is 70077.

As for me personally, I am 36, mom to a 6 yo and stepmom to 3 boys ages 14-20. I work as an LPN and am starting to go back to school for my RN. Hubby is also getting ready to start back to school so the next year or so is going to be nuts around here. I'll need all the energy I can muster just to get through. I'm looking forward to accompanying you guys on your trip across the country!

I am stronger than I think I am. So are you!

Hi, I'm Shirley from Indiana. I started the trail a few years ago and then dropped off in Missouri. My current mileage is 1488.4 I'm ready to go again. Well, almost. I had a bad fall and am limping a little, so it will be a slow start. I always liked their calendar approach to tracking miles.

I normally walk between 6-10 miles a day. I use a pedometer, but only turn it on when I go out for my walks. I have a dog, and I walk him three times a day, so that 10 miles is usually over the three walks. I have done 8 miles all at once, but it makes my feet really hurt, so I stick to the 3-5 mile routes I have established. I don't set a time for my walks, I just try and do them as fast as the dog will go.

Wow Leslielenore! You walk a lot!! That's awesome:) I am just starting to workout on a regular and I thought what better way than to walk! So off I go! I just signed up today. My number is 69720. How many miles do you walk a day and how much time to you allow yourself? Do you count steps or is this actually miles you are walking all at once for exercise?

Hi everyone! I am new to this team, but I have been on the website for a few months and I am almost to the 1,000 mile mark. I walk 40-50 miles a week, depending on the weather, so I have been making steady progress. I love the pictures of where my daily mileage puts me!

emoticonHello everyone, my name is Sandy I just joined the team. I have been using this trek across America since October year before last. I am currently at the edge of Colorado.
Still gaining around three or more miles a day average between 90 to 100 miles a month. I only count fitness walking and I use a pedometer to track my cardio walks. I have a Omron unit that keeps track of my exercise on a computer program that came with the unit.
All I have to do is plug it into the usb port and it keeps track for me and tells me how many steps, miles calories and fat burned on each day. I love the unit and it is perfect for using with this trek.
Hope to get to know more of you as time goes by. Each month I post a blog with an update of where I am and how many miles I walked for the month.
Have a wonderful weekend. Sandy

Hi I just joined this team. I started my walk on January 1st and so far I have traveled 56 miles. I have almost reached Glendale, VA.

Dead Last Finish is greater than Did Not Finish, which trumps Did Not Start.

Hi...I'm Shelly and I'm from Texas. I just joined the team. I always like these "Walk Across America" teams because I get to see pics of different parts of the country. I did a Walktober ... in October and really enjoyed it.

Hi Vicki!
Wonderful to see you on my favorite challenge. Just love the idea of travelling over the US (am now living in Spain and miss it all so much). Trying to get some mileage in will help you so much. Don´t worry about menopause, changes, weight gain...just details :), we´re all in the same boat and together we can manage to succeed. Wishing you luck. We can do this!
Lynda

Hi, I'm Vicki. I live in Titusville, Fl. I'm 55 years old and 70 lbs over weight. I've been trying for over a year to get my weight down and all I've done is yo-yo back and forth. I did lose 12.2 lbs in 2011. I've started a low carb plan like I did back in the 80's ( I lost 105 lbs in 13 months and kept it off for 18 years), and I'm hoping to get the weight back off over the course of the next 2 years. I'm not nearly as active as I used to be so I know the weight won't come off as fast as it did back then. Plus I've gone into full menopause so my body tends to have a mind of it's own. I lose motivation easily so I'm hoping the team will help keep me motivated to stay on track. Thanks for having me.

I consider this Team the best of the Sparks! SO glad to have found it, and thanx to you WalkingGrandma, I did. I live in Madrid, Spain, on the outskirts of the big city, and in a perfect place to walk outside (and inside on my tready). Walking is what I love most to do and after a long time, have gotten back to fixing my feet, getting OA under check and am back to walking with a vengeance. I joined last night, so am raring to go today to add on the journey.

My number is 68882, Lynda from Spain. Can´t wait to get this going.

Hello, new to the this team but have been on Spark since 2006 and then the Virtual Walk/ cycle site since 2009, have just finished going across the U.S from east to west, and started back, 4083.6 miles as of today.

Do have a question, is there a way that when you do start back from the west to the east coast, the web site will update as to where you are at? It still gives me the same west coast picture in Oregon even though I have added miles to it. 4063 was the orginal ending miles.
