Perhaps becoming familiar with a local nursery or garden store in your area would be the best route to start familiarizing yourself with, soils, plant times for your area. Hello my name is Tina and I'm 39. I new to gardening I have planted flowers before but that's about it. But this year I would like to plaint veggs, herbs and flowers. Hi I'm Vickie and love to play in the dirt. We've had a long winter here in Connecticut but it seems to be getting warmer...if you discount the snow we had on Monday. I've got my veggie seeds and some sunflower seeds ready to go and started my tomatoes on my sun porch...they are coming up and doing well. I have been trying to lose weigh what seems like most of my life. I had gastric sleeve surgery in January and have lost 48 pounds. It was not an easy decision to make but I did it and I feel so much better and can move like I haven't been able to in years. Look forward to getting to know people on this team...I'm so glad that I found SP the support has been wonderful.

I stopped and started with dieting several times, finally I was tired of the yo-yo cycle and set small goals every week, which in the end, I got to my goal weight, that was two & half years ago and still maintaining goal weight. I do splurge on a treat, once in awhile, after all we are only human!

Hi, My name is Paula and my husband and I grow vegetables on 14 acres which we sell at the local farmer's markets and to local restaurants. I work a full time job as well so life can get quite busy for 8 months of the year when you add in the farming. We are also bee keepers and we grow and sell perennial plants for the gardens. I am taking this time during lent to get back on track with weight loss and fitness. I let a month of letting go to put on 10 pounds and feel lousy. I am doing this for me! I know how good it can feel!
Good idea to wait until you are settled as it takes a while to get established. I want to put in another bed this year. We love it so much. When it is producing, we sometimes have it for breakfast in an omlet, lunch on a veggie pizza, and dinner on the grill. We love it.
Hi Cheryl: Saw some asparagus popping through the soil today but haven't got anything else planted as of yet. We have had lots of rain and it is just too wet to work the soil. Best wishes on your garden this year. You might have a little shorter growing season but probably not much. Keep us posted. BTW, back!
After taking a long break from teams (I was a little busy between school work and regular work) I'm back. How is everyones garden doing? I moved to Maryland this year so I get to experiment with the climate here.
Thank you to everyone for the nice remarks/advice. Sunny glad you got your stuff in (and is blooming). Where are you from? I know my mother in law in MI is having the same problem. It's been raining so much she had to put her garden in later than expected.
Hi, welcome back Cheryl. If all you do with SP and track your your food and activities/exercise, you will discover yourself becoming more and more aware of both of them and see the changes. Getting involved with a few teams, makes it a lot more fun though.

I joined this group when I first joined sparkpeople over a year ago. That attempt at weight loss was short lived. I'm back and I'm trying again. Oh by the way my name is Cheryl I'm from Newport News VA. I love to spend time in my vegetable garden. Currently I am growning corn, string beans (the wrong kind so I'm going to pull them and put in the right kind), peppers, tomatoes (roma and grape), onions in a container, potatoes in a container, and blueberries in a container. I'm not much into flower gardening but I'm slowly picking it up. This spring I put in a varigated glossy abelia. I'm hoping I'll be able to find the time to get more involved in this group (and the other groups I'm signed up with). I'm a busy person between working full time and going to school part time.
