I have to deal with a lot of oak trees-they bring a lot of shade in the summer, but when planting I have to imagine where the shade will be when the trees are in full leaf..and each year there is more. Of course we do appreciate the summer shade, but we also love tomatoes, summer squash and pepper, etc. So this year the squash is going in the front yard and the tomatoes and pepper along the driveway.
Best wishes, Mary Jane

I like growing all herbs, but my favorite (and the one I've had the most problems with) is Lavender. I've tried to grow Lavender for about 10 years and finally did something right. Last year I actually got 2 plants to grow and plan on putting out more this year. What I did different was purchase healthy plants instead of trying from seed. I do some container gardening due to lack of space, but have some raised beds and 3 regular garden spots in the sunny spots of my yard. I have lots of pine trees so there are lots of shaded areas in my yard. We are going to try potatoes in containers this year.
Welcome to the team! I am up North so we are in different planting zones. I imagine you all have started planting already - if the rain would allow! I have a few favorite garden bloggers who are down in your neck of the woods so I hear all about the soggy wet spring your state is having.
What is your favorite herb to grow? Are you going to try container garden veggies or put them in a garden? Just think - this fall / late summer you can canning the veggies or freeze them to enjoy during the winter!
Stop by my blog - I just looked you up on facebook. I love to share ideas about gardening so follow my link in my signature to my garden.
Great to have you on the team!
IT all begins with YOU..... Plant the seeds and get growing healthy!
I'm an avid gardner who works mostly with herbs and flowers. I have recently been getting into planting more and more vegetables. I'm planning a large garden this year at home. I also work a community herb and vegetable garden with my native american group. We are having plenty of rain right now in Alabama, which is good, I just hope it dries up soon so I can get my hands in the dirt. There is no greater feeling in the world that getting your hands in the dirt! Except maybe hugs and kissed from the grandchildren. I am teaching them about gardening, also.
