JOJOPI, Thank you. I've put it on hold at my library.
Our tomato and green onion seeds have already started sprouting (our indoor seedlings) and this week we'll be potting more. We had planned on planting the sunflowers directly outdoors. But now I'm thinking we'll buy more variety and start some indoors too. =)

Lovin' the weather down there this weekend or what??!
Wish I loved closer because I would have totally spent the weekend up at Stone Mountain. I love that park and we try to go each year.

What is blooming right now in your neck of the woods?

Mel,
Check out the book "Sunflower House." I think the author is Eve Bunting. It is one of the books I use with my Kindergarten students during our living things unit. The kids absolutlely love it. After we read it, we plant sunflower seeds in little peat pots to watch the plants develop. I always plant a few extras that we can tear apart to see the roots develop along the way.

Mel-the sunflower fort sounds awesome

Margaret-I need to log some miles with Leslie today too. I'm getting over an energy sapping case of the flu and I'm s l o w l y getting back to exercise. I love Leslie in a big way!

Sunny-You have the worlds most perfect name! Thanks for the nice words.

Mosiermeister-I live in Decatur and my husbands family all live in Carrollton so I've been to D'Ville many times! That's cool that we're so close.

I'm practically giddy with the idea of getting my hands in the dirt and making something tasty and beautiful. emoticon

Glad you have joined us. I am hoping spring is really just around the corner. It is sunny but cold today. I would love to get out and do some gardening but the ground is too hard. We will be warm for a few days and then back to the dep freeze we go.
I need to go do 5 miles with Leslie and friends.
See you around SP.

Hello and welcome to the team~

It is lovely to have a team like this and be able to glean information from gardeners that have been doing this longer. Like you I think we're all anxious for Spring. =)
Congratulations on your garden success last year.
Last year we didn't grow a garden because we were trying to sell. This year I'm going to. I was so disappointed last year with the food recalls that I will not tolerate it again this year. We've bigger plans this year and plan on utilizing more of our land. But our first garden here in KY I used a flower bed with great success.
My youngest enjoys gardening too. I'm planning a "fort" of large sunflowers around a mound he likes to play. Fingers crossed it will turn out. =)

Hi Everyone!

It's so nice to be among gardening friends, isn't it? emoticon I am so looking forward to spring and lucky for me it arrives here pretty soon. The daffodils are already out and the crocus are right behind them. Last year I did my first vegetable container garden and it was a smashing success. We rent our house and don't have great sunlight so containers were fantastic for our situation. All told I grew 25 vegetables and herbs. I didn't have enough to can but because our growing season is so long down here I was able to feed our family from May through October. I have a 5.5 year old son and a 2.5 year old daughter who adore gardening too. I may even rope my husband into it this year. emoticon

I really look forward to hearing what everyone else is planning this year! What fun!
