A little bit on How I got to this point.
I started this journey on January 22, 2008. Went to the doctor and was told I had two choices. I could loose the weight or he could visit me in the hospital. Time was running out very fast. My weight was 384. I'm six foot tall and 46 years old. The only real medical problem was sleep apnea. Also had high blood pressure. Everything else was not bad but all on the high side. He suggested lap band surgery. I had been thinking of this, but had read about all the things that can go wrong. I ask if there was something else that could be tried. Said we could try a drug called phentermine. I said I would try it and see what happens. My though was at the time he would try and get my weight down and than talk me into the surgery. I must say I went home that night and cried like a baby. Had been around 300 for a while but always able to get a little lower when I would try. Never dreamed I was 384. I probably had lost 15 lbs before I saw him that day. That night I did something I had not done in a while. I prayed. Only this time I ask not to make losing weight easy but just to help me loose weight. I didn't' care how hard, just give me the courage to make it happen. For the next month I looked for a diet plan to follow. Mostly was looking for a food tracker. Doctor at first visit said to try south beach diet. Had tried before and did not like it, Works for a while but dose not last. You hit a wall after a while. Lost 20 lbs the first month. Was no happy with this, because I new I should be doing better. Than on a food tracker search I came across a site called Sparkpeople. I joined just for the food tracker. Tracked my food for the first month and lost 23 pounds. Now this got my attention. I started using the fitness tracker and reading. Than really joined a team I had an interests in the Veggie and Blooms Garden . Met some people who liked to garden also. All the time losing weight, at about 20 pounds a month. The article about starting a streak really worked for me. Just kept doing more and more just to keep losing 20 pounds a month. Seamed like it was so hard to get below 300. Now that I look back it came very fast. Than 250, 240, 230, 225. This was my original goal. When I got their I keep going. 220, 210, 200, 195, 192. 192 was my lowest weight. I was trying to get to 188. This was in November of 2008. In 10 months I had lost 192 pounds. This was to much to fast to hold. Had grown week and lost a lot of muscle. Gain back to about 200 and back to 195 by my birthday on December 20. Took a great vacation to Utah over the holidays. It was a fitness vacation. Did some hiking, ATVing, skiing, even worked out while I was their. Got back and decided to stop the meds. Had only gained 3 pounds. ( had eat like a horse the whole time) One month later, I'm at 196 and doing very well. Will try and maintain this weight for at least 1 to 2 more months. Than decided if I will try for 188 again.
